Very well done all around - Warner Bros. Take Note

Even the secondary characters are engaging in this series of stories penned by the writer of The Mentalist.
This is Gotham (circa 2000-2005?) before the Batman begins to bring order to that city (presumably in 2014-15).
A number of the characters from the comic are introduced in their early years with personalities, strengths and flaws that foreshadow what they will become in DC comics canon. The delivery is subtle, believable and the plots and characters are very nicely done.
Little Poison Ivy has an abusive father and raises her few pathetic plants in a small apartment in a concrete jungle.
The casting is flawless, as are the direction and acting. The characters (even the stranger villains) are entirely believable (Oswald Cobblepot particularly so). The writing makes even the "toss-away" characters three dimensional.
A street urchin asks a favor of a burnt out cop in an office full of crooked cops - he denies the request (out of habit) and she quite casually threatens to "Scream and tell everyone that you 'touched me'". He lurches back from her and gives her a pained expression (despairing that even the children of Gotham have lost all respect for the cops, or that one so young would prove so adept at blackmail) before getting the detective that she demanded to see. That 30 second exchange by Selena and "cop number 6" has an impact (technically, it should have been just filler between scenes).
And again, Selena Kyle as a thief and street urchin looking for her mother is especially well done (and it really is hard to pick a "favorite" in this group - there are excellent scenes for all the primary and secondary characters).
Harvey Bullock, always a nuisance character that I found annoying as a two-dimensional "corrupt cop" - is actually quite a believable, sympathetic character here... even while he's being a completely arrogant, lazy jerk! I really can't bring myself to hate This version of Harvey... and he Clearly sold out years ago.
The writer/director and actor actually conjured up a Harvey that ..... dare I say it..... I actually Like!
The future Commissioner Gordon is the main character of this ensemble - Very intelligently done. Determined enough to take on a corrupt city government, intelligent enough to stay Just under the radar by "playing ball" without actually playing ball. He brings an insightful air of menace to the criminals that he encounters without actually stepping over the lines... a precarious balancing act.
Even his girlfriend, Barbara, is notable in the few minutes that she is on screen. Ideally a sounding board for him to recount the events of his day and plan strategy - she engages and does a lot more than just listen and kick in an idea or two. She helps bring the issue to a head by pushing him into the deep water (with a mischievous grin) all the while providing him with plausible deniability.
Bruce Wayne's presentation as a 12-13 year old was, however, most potentially concerning for me as his was the easiest precursor character to get terribly wrong (see Phantom Menace).
They nailed it!
Bruce the adolescent shows a forceful personality with out showing any sign of youthful petulance (Star Wars Ep 2&3). He comes across as Very intelligent and Very perceptive, but most of all ..... Driven in a way the borders on the disturbing.
Alfred (another strong role) explains to Lt Gordon why he Hasn't called in a psychologist to look into why Bruce seems..... more than a bit ..... different.
A bit too detached, A bit too perceptive - it seems as if he already has an agenda and he doesn't care to explain what it is.
When you ask yourself - could This kid grow up into a man that will make hardened sociopaths wet themselves, the answer for me was - oh yeah. The transformation has already begun.

Another great season in one of my favorite shows

Raymond Reddington has got to be my favorite bad/good guy at the moment. James Spader has breathed life into this role as one of the FBI's top most wanted. He has moments of incredible evil as well as times of incredible tenderness. It is amazing to me that after three years of this show, I am still wondering exactly who Reddington is and what he is trying to accomplish.
Season Three is just as good as the first two seasons, which for me were excellent. Even with Season Three's accommodation of Megan Boone's real-life pregnancy with her character of Elizabeth Keen, which can be a series killer for many shows (remember “Moonlighting” off-hand), the show continues to build in momentum.
I look forward to seeing which number and name comes up on Reddington's list each week. What will be their special “evil” role and how will it benefit Raymond?

So they can clone acting skills...

Can someone give Tatiana Maslany an award already? This girl needs some awards! Playing one role well is hard enough, but almost a dozen unique characters who interact with each other? Talk about acting skills. All I have to say is, even Meryl Streep has never attempted to play clones. With the addition of a complex new clone and the reveal of the life of Beth Childs, Season 4 looks like it may be Tatiana's year for an Emmy or Golden Globe. Calling in my vote on the clone phone!

Best of Tv, Better cancel it! Just Kidding!

This is one of the most intellectually and metaphorically interesting shows on tv, especially this season. Why is it being cancelled??? It certainly has action for action junkies, but not dumbed down violence. The episode just aired last night showed the talent of the entire team from actors to writers, directors, etc Mr. Emerson's scenes in last night's episode -- a tour de force of acting and demonstration of how close-up facial expressions can create more tension/conflict in a complex plot than the garden variety shoot 'em up action scenes in so many tv shows and movies. ALL the actors are being filmed with more close up camera work as their relationships with each other and their internal conflicts, loves, and foibles are rising to the surface. Brilliant way of reintroducing Shaw this season--kudos to the writers!
If you are new to the show, at least read the synopses (one-liners though they may be) from the beginning and/or find reviews that provide synopses. You will then understand the brilliance of this season.
Oh why does it have to be the final season? Well, back to watching only PBS, Masterpiece, and shows from Sweden, Denmark, etc. If the British can continually produce QUALITY dramatic and comedic shows, I am saddened that one our own best, Person of Interest, has been pulled. For shame.

Not just for young people!

I have been a sci-fi fan since I was a lot younger. I read somewhere that this is considered a young peoples show sorry to bust someone's bubble but I think this show is GREAT and I am 60 years old. I know there is a difference between a tv series and a theater movie that being said I would rate this as being almost equal to star wars as far as being an entertaining sci-fi . I have yet to watch a tv series or movie that I agree with 100 o/o so keep in mind this series is made by someone else's standards and it is impossible to please all the people all the time "1 old man's opinion"

PNY 32GB USB Flash Drive
on July 20, 2016

Verified Purchase:Yes
Well I've been a loyal PNY product user for over 10 years, and I can honestly say, that their products have been reliable, functional, and have lasted the test of time. So as both of my 32GB flash drives approached maximum capacity, I found myself sifting through the web, in search of 32GB replacements, at a reasonable price.
The price of memory is such a fickle thing theses days.... Much like buying a new car, what costs a fortune today, is worth just pennies tomorrow. Not wanting to pay a king's ransom, I managed to locate a distributer that was selling PNY 32GB Attaché USB Flash Drives for approximately $34 each. I bought two flash drives, from the merchant, and anxiously awaited their arrival.
When they showed up at my door, I found that PNY had made a few changes to their Attaché USB Flash Drive product line, since my last purchase.
1. The 32GB Flash Drives no longer have a LED activity indicator of any sort on the drive. I'm not quite sure how they expect anyone to know when their flash drive is being accessed. I, like many other users have come to expect, utilize, and some even require an activity light of some sort on their external devices. This omission was a major disappointment.
2. Over the years, I've found it necessary to reformat external storage devices, such as flash drives, and start fresh. This worked fine with both of my PNY 32GB Flash Drives, going all the way back to my first 256MB Flash Drive. Well this functionality has got an added rub with this 32GB Flash Drive. Apparently, the 32GB Flash Drive utilizes the exFAT system, which requires a patch/driver from Microsoft, before your Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 machine can `handle' the drive properly. Sort of pain, and no mention of this added requirement on the documentation or packaging the flash drive came in.
3. Lastly is the cheaper case & USB dust sleeve. The case is noticeably cheaper in heft. Seems like PNY elected to go with a cheaper grade of plastic, while at the same time updated their design to incorporate a capless dust sleeve. I say sleeve, since it clearly only protects the sides of the USB plug, but not the connections on the end - the most important part of the drive! They undoubtedly chose this course, like many other manufacturers, to eliminate the problem of lost flash drive caps. A capless system would be fine, if the connections of the USB Plug were afforded some degree of protection.
While it may sound like I've blasted the PNY 64GB Flash Drive, it still has its place. However, the short comings of the new design - no LED activity indicator, cheaper case, and only partial protection for the USB Plug do affect its versatility & reliability; especially if it's used as a daily worker.
A decent Case Logic case, would be a good & highly recommended compliment, to the transport & integrity of this flash drive. At the very least, it would give the USB Plug some much needed protection, while prolonging the life of the flash drive.

Grand Parody Western Style!
on July 20, 2016

"A Million Ways to Die in the West" shovels jokes, sight gags, riffs on old Westerns, and crude humor as fast as it can, figuring everything will be funny to someone in the audience. It's a good bet, and this Western comedy works, although the humor is all over the map, not PC, and sometimes pretty gross. This reviewer saw the movie with an audience that laughed out loud at some of the jokes and sight gags, and groaned at some of the cruder humor.
Seth MacFarlane stars as sheep farmer Albert Starks, a nice guy who hates the old West and who as the movie opens gets dumped by his girlfriend Louise (Amanda Seyfried) after he chickens out of a gun fight. Louise takes up with the insufferable Foy (Neil Patrick Harris) who runs the local moustachery. The lonely Albert runs into Anna (Charlize Theron), the runaway wife of mean gunfighter Clinch Leatherwood (Liam Neeson), who takes him under her wing and trains him to fight the inevitable duels, first against Foy and then against Clinch.
The opening segments of the movie feature a lot of modern breakup humor, nicely done by Albert and his best friends Edward (Giovanni Ribisi) and Ruth (an hilarious Sarah Silverman). The movie really picks up steam as it drops into a more traditional western storyline, complete with barn dances, gunfights, barroom brawls, Indians, chases on horseback, and a predictable but enjoyable romance. There are a ton of cameos and the magnificent scenery is right out of a John Ford Western. Recommended as good entertainment.

Jesse Stone is Back!
on July 20, 2016
Posted by: kenn
Verified Purchase:Yes
I had enjoyed all eight of the previous Jesse Stone movies and was really disheartened when I heard that the movie series had been dropped by its network. Then, earlier this year, I discovered Hallmark Channel had picked up the series and, while I was extremely happy to hear the movies would be continued, I was also concerned that having the show on Hallmark might have an effect on how the movies would be scripted and filmed going forward. While I'm a big fan of Hallmark, I generally look to the channel for family entertainment for all ages while I consider the Jesse Stone series to be geared toward a more mature audience (adults and teens who can deal with the concepts involved in murder mysteries.)
I can happily report that “Lost in Paradise” follows in the same tradition as all of the earlier movies. While it involved a fairly easily solved mystery, or as Jesse states towards the end of the movie: “Some cases are hard, some are easy. This one was easy”, it was a great re-entry point for the series.
I really appreciated that the movie acknowledged the two year period between this and the last movie. It seems that a considerable amount of change has happened to Jesse during that two year period and, because of the changes, Jesse is at a brink in his life. Some of his behaviors have improved while others have deteriorated. (It wouldn't be a Jesse Stone movie if life had been lollipops and rainbows.) Still, because of the most moving of the changes in his life which involves the loss of his “conscience”, Jesse becomes involved in solving a cold case for the Boston PD. He also becomes involved with helping a young teenager try to get her life straight back in Paradise.
Tom Selleck once again steps into the role of Jesse Stone like it is a well-fitting glove.

14 years waiting for a next movie No Regrets Here!

Jurassic World brings back iconic elements from the original 1993 film but thrusts us forward into uncharted Jurassic territory.
Jurassic World, a 2015 American science fiction adventure film, is the fourth installment of the Jurassic Park series and directed by Colin Trevorrow. The screenplay, written in a harrowing three weeks, is written by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Derek Connolly & Colin Trevorrow. The film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Omar Sy, Irrfan Khan and B.D. Wong, who is the only actor to reprise his role from any of the previous films. Trevorrow did a great job directing the film, however, a more Hitchcock style might've added more thriller aspects giving it the edge of your seat feel that would be hard to top.
The film is set twenty-two years later on Isla Nublar, the original location of the Jurassic Park film, with a thriving theme park complete with various rides, stores and hotels. The park looks like it has been thriving for quite some time without incident until a genetically created dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, escapes its containment area and creates havoc across the island. This premise is unique in that the audience is immersed into the world quickly. The beauty of the island is breathtaking. The production design is elaborate and should be commended. While the film was shot with Panavision lenses, a Cook lens might have given it more depth of beauty to the long shots and the landscapes.
Jurassic World falls nicely into the timeline created by the first three films and the theme of this film also resonates with the original as well. It is a matter of showing respect to every living creature and what happens when you don't. The character arcs were typical for this type of film as we see Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) go from strictly business to appreciate the animals in the park, and realizing the family she's missed out on all along. Some missed opportunities were utilizing Jake Johnson's character, Lowery, in a more comedic role and the villain, Vincent D'Onofrio's character, Hoskins, could have been more conniving, something to the effect of how D'Onofrio played Wilson Fisk on Daredevil (the Netflix series).
Jurassic World is quite the paced action-adventure beat by beat and with a sequel already in the works, it will be worth the wait if it's anything like this one. In the meantime we'll take Owen's (Chris Pratt) advice:
Claire: So now what do we do?
Owen: Probably stay together. For survival.

The Original E.T. is back, in Blu Ray
on July 20, 2016
Posted by: kenn
Verified Purchase:Yes
This is the first thing I want to say about the 2012 Blu-ray Release of "E.T., the Extraterrestrial:" it's back, in its original form. Yes, every frame, the terrorist gag, guns back where they need to be, the musical score in the farewell scene restored to its original grandeur, and no digital shilly-shallying. What a delight! Big thanks to Mr. Spielberg for finally recognizing the deliciously imperfect perfection of his original creation.
I've seen this film approaching 70 times, and I know where the beats are, top to bottom. I was looking for changes, and could detect not a one. Even the slight jump-cut as ET indicates the closet as "home" is restored. The original ILM animation of the bikes in flight is back. The string passage during the final embrace is right where it should always have been. All the terrible tampers have been removed.
The transfer, from original 35mm elements, is as flawless as can be. The look and feel of the theatre experience fills the eye and the ear and, as always, the heart. Welcome "home," E.T., and thanks, Universal, for a job well undone.
