Worth The Watch While A Fan of the Original

I have watched the original Magnificent Seven and really enjoyed it. I did not watch it before going to this version. When it came out on DVD I watched both and was really amazed at how much of the dialogue from the original made it into the re-make. Having said all that, this is a really good stand alone movie. You can easily watch it without ever seeing the original.
The actors and the director did a great job of making this one their own. There is much more ethnic diversity in this one. The under stories of the characters is more clear. Not so much to muddy the original story line but just enough to add flavor. Plus, the dialogue in the new one is better. However don't go in expecting huge character arcs or any kind of unique epiphany. What you see is what you get with the characters.
This is just a really good taking on "the man" against incredible odds movie.

Don't Look for any Reality, Just be Scared

I think I reviewed this movie before. NO, that was one of my other crazy personalities. The old Sally Field split-personality movie is the only one to appear focused on a bookshelf behind the moving camera on the Extras behind-the-scenes clip. Thank God for Freeze Frame or I would have missed the inside joke. This is well acted and filmed, and on first viewing I did not think it was a condemnation of the mentally ill with multiple personalities. I suppose some viewers would see it that way. McAvoy is amazing and so are the girls. The saddest thing is that so many real kidnappings happen and are not discovered for even many years. But that reality is not addressed in this movie, except fictionally in the relatively quick resolution, an expected feature of all M. Night movies. Night loves the sudden-gasp reveals. And he loves appearing Hitchcock-style in his movies. You knew that. Let us pray for the real captives out there who have not been found yet.

Another Great Bourne Wiith A Twist
on December 21, 2017

Back in 2002, The Bourne Identity redefined not only the action film aesthetic but the modern spy thriller as well. While some elements of the Bourne films have been good for action films, others are now trite and cliché. If you were to break down the “Bourne formula”, these four elements could be used to make any action film in the “Bourne-style”:
Car chases with spectacular driving in “common” vehicles
Brutal hand-to-hand combat using everyday items
Shaky camera movement during action sequences
“The chase” where eventually the protagonist gets away, achieves his objective and escapes into the shadows once again
Because the Bourne films are so formulaic, I found Jason Bourne (2016) to be no different. That being said, the film was still a fun and intense ride to watch. Now nine years later from the last in the “true” Bourne storyline (we’ll just forget that The Bourne Legacy (2012) happened), technology has vastly improved, making this film seem more like a crossover of James Bond and Person of Interest. This, I feel, was Jason Bourne’s strength. Casting the incomparable Alicia Vikander (hot in her burgeoning career), was a smart choice and made this film enter the “new era of espionage.”
Furthermore, including the subplot focusing on technological privacy pulled straight from our current events helped to pin this film into the collective popular culture in which we now live, instead of just being a series of chases in foreign lands. I also appreciated the inclusion of some semblance of a plot in this film, as it felt like Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) had not gotten very many answers in the last three films. At least this time around we learn something about him and his motivation; since the amnesiac super-soldier archetype can really only go so far.
Another great Bourne film with a contemporary twist, I give Jason Bourne 4.0 stars out of 5.

As of December 12, this season has had so many ups and downs, it's been an emotional rollercoaster. Yes, they 'should kill Negan', but as has been shown to anyone who has logic abilities in their brain, it's not that easy. The psychological terrorizing in the last episode of last season continued into the first episode of this season was masterfully written. Negan is fairly brilliant in his use of mental terror. He manipulated Rick and his group into a situation where for the first time in years, they were helpless and unable to stop or even unable to act on a terrible thing happening in front of them. The worst part of it being it was being done by a fellow human, so they can't blame the mindless zombies or nature or chance.
SPOILERS!!
This last episode was well done. I know that it follows a lot of the comic verse, which is cool. I'm waiting for Maggie to take over Hilltop and honestly, seeing Daryl back was truly a balm after all of the brutality. I loved when the Kingdom guy was telling Carol how she probably hasn't had anything to do with any fighting... I mean, she's still pulling off the helpless housewife. It's frustrating as heck to see her turn back into the mousey little woman she started out as though. I want to see her find her inner warrior again. Perhaps the knowledge that Glenn was murdered and Maggie will be at risk will bring her around. They need Carol. From her past exploits, I'd just say point her at the Saviors' camp and let her take care of business. Taking out the cannibals was one of my favorite episodes. Badass Carol.

Excellent drive, with some OS-related limitations

The WD My Book 4 TB is a fast and capable storage solution for backups, "archive" files, and other data. I plan to use it to store my Adobe Light Room archives and working copies. Western Digital is, by common agreement, the most reliable and powerful brand of hard drive on the market to day, and this device continues their tradition of delivering the best.
Although I'm giving a rating of five stars, I'd like to point out a limitation of this drive that's due to operating systems rather than the drive itself.
If you plan to use this drive only with Windows, then you can allocate all 4 TB as a single primary partition. If, however, you want to be able to use the drive with Windows and with OS X, then you'll have to use 2 partitions. The reason is that the Windows NTFS file system supports 4 TB partitions, but the multi-platform exFAT file system that works with both Windows and OS X only supports 2 TB. If you use exFat to use the drive with both OSes, then you'll have to split the drive into two partitions. You do have the choice of making the two partitions equal sizes.
I have a shelf full of theses drives from 1TB to 8TB and I swear by them. I do not leave them plugged in except when loading or unloading them. No need to run them hours on end for no reason. I would buy them over and over again.

I like the side-plot that they used for this movie and hope they do more things like this. I don't mind that it is a little grittier, and the ending was a refreshing change. On the other hand, I found some of the props and staging to be so clunky and ill thought out. How many levers do you have to pull in a movie?? Good grief! In some ways they are trapped in the technology from the imagination of the 1970's, if they want continuity of style, but some of the limitations of the technology are pretty laughable by 2017. They also need to get a little more variety in their environments. The very first and last were different, but too often it's just more desert. It gets clichéd.

A Powerful, Sincere Performance the Will Endure
on October 2, 2017

Up to this point, I had watched all of the DCEU movies and have been entertained, but not particularly impressed. When I walked away from Batman V Superman, Wonder Woman was without a doubt the best part and I had hopes for her solo film. After Suicide Squad, my hopes were lessened, but still present. After seeing the film twice I can confidently say it is one of, if not the greatest super hero movies ever made.
Wonder Woman is a very focused and purposeful superhero movie. There isn't a single scene that feels like filler and you can tell Patty Jenkins knows exactly what kind of story she wants to tell. The film balances action and adventure with social commentary very well and is almost flawlessly executed. The setting in 1918 puts us in a time when women were on the verge of revolution, and the presence of Diana clashing with patriarchal ideals is not only historically logical, but elevates the film to a modern allegory. It's one of those movies that follows superhero tropes and Joseph Campbell's heroes journey, but keep things fresh so it never once feels derivative.
Gal Gadot is absolutely fantastic and gives one of most sincere superhero performances ever captured on film. She is able to communicate her characters thoughts and emotions without words, she has a powerful and commanding presence, she is elegant and intellectual, she is witty and clever. But at this point in her life she is also naïve and does not understand the world as much as she thinks she does. You can see a clear distinction between the way she carries herself in Batman V Superman compared to Wonder Woman, further showcasing Gal Gadot's subtle and dedicated performance. In this movie, she is still relatively young and must learn a valuable lessons that mankind can be good and that evil does not come from only one source. A very powerful and inspiring message, especially in these troubled times. It was very smart to not cast an American actress or make Gal change her accent. She is a Greek Goddess and should not be a "girl next door" type. This is one of the most serendipitous casting decisions ever made, she was born to play Wonder Woman.
I am not a big superhero fan, but the second time I saw this movie it effected me just like when I returned to see Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. I found myself tearing up during a few scenes because we have never seen a woman with this kind of power on film before. After her scene in No Man's Land, the audience in my theater clapped and then when the people in the movie clapped for her, the audience clapped AGAIN! Something that just doesn't happen at the movies anymore, unless it's a franchise with 40 years of films like Star Wars. This movie is exactly what modern audiences are looking for and it is 100% satisfying. Wonder Women will go down in history with The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 2 as one of the best and most culturally significant superhero movies ever. This is a game changer for the DCEU because they have now made a film better than EVERY MCU movie. The bar has been raised for all superhero studios.
Wonder Woman is essential viewing for not only superhero fans, but film buffs and fans of the action epic. The first time I saw the movie, I had very few qualms, and most of those are no longer issues to me. All of them were little things like "I wish we could see this", "a little too much CGI at the end". Any and all issues with the film is not the movies problem and is simply a matter of personal taste because it is a near perfect movie. There are no objectively bad executions with the movie like there were with the previous DCEU films. If you don't like it, then that is without a doubt your problem, because as a lover of films and not superhero's, it's near perfect film-making and I will not be surprised if this gets nominated for Oscars, it deserves them.
As a man, I am not only proud to have a Wonder Woman to look up to, but proud to see that Hollywood has made such a landmark achievement in women's film history.

A True Suprise of the Fall Season 9.5/10

If you are a child of the 1980's or early 90's you might have had a problem with Lethal Weapon being adapted from a major motion picture franchise to a Network TV series.
Before it's debut it was getting blasted across the board by many internet trolls, openly admit I thought the idea was terrible and would be disrespectful to the fans and everyone involved with the films,
But after watching the pilot I'm so glad I actually gave it a chance.
This series is fantastic and actually expanse on the characters.
This is it's own thing and to some degree it's actually much better then the films.
For all the stubborn people who will not give it a chance as far as a adaption:
Lethal Weapon and Lethal Weapon 2 are awesome 1980's flicks
Lethal Weapon 3 is average at best
Lethal Weapon 4 is God awful and proof the series had worn out it's welcome. It's also the entry in the series that jumped the shark.
The first season of Lethal Weapon as a whole is 10x's better then Lethal Weapon 3 & 4 combined!
Matt Miller didn't so much re-boot the characters he re-introduced them, and expanded on all the characters we already know and care about, and did it in a very smart and refreshing way.
Even though the tone is more "watered down" TVPG-13,
It still very good with plenty of HQ action and humor,
Besides the writing the cast is really impressive.
Damon Wayans (Roger Murtaugh) When I first learned Damon was cast I thought it was poor casting, But he is a much different updated version of the character, he has always been awesome at balancing action and comedy this role is no different.
Clayne Crawford (Martin Riggs) Amazing choice again this version of Riggs has been changed up a bit he's now a former VET turned TX Cop who moved to CA after the death of his wife. At first I hated the mustache it's very 1970's! But he makes it work along with the "hair" always pulling his hair over his eyes.
This version of Riggs is actually better then Mel Gibson's version, mostly due the time allowed by a TV series, to explore the character in depth.
Keesha Sharp (Trish Murtaugh) Trish has been majorly updated now she is a Attorney Keesha seems to be having a blast with this role you can tell she is trying to make it her own (Trish in the films was a side character to some extent with this series she is being fleshed out)
Kevin Rahm (Captain Brooks Avery) Kevin Rahm is a great character actor
Captain Avery is Murtaugh former partner
Michelle Mitchenor (Officer Sonya Bailey )
Jordana Brewster (Department Psychologist Maureen Cahill) Jordana is very good in this role you have very little to no info on her until the episode that spotlights her stalker then you'll look at her and see her much differently
Leo Getz is introduced in one episode and while it's handled much different it works
If you enjoy/loved the film series give it a chance it might just surprise you
(There's plenty of very smart plot elements and Easter eggs from the films)
It's hands down the best Freshman property FOX has aired for the 2016/2017 TV season
and somehow was able to find a audience (more episodes were added to the first season) and it's returning for a second season this fall
So now is the time for those who wrote it off or just wasn't able to DVR it
Binge watch the first 4-5 episodes and try and prove me wrong as a freshman season it's impressive and very enjoyable
nostalgia aside 9.5/10

A True Return to Form

I watched season 5 when it originally aired. Even though there were a few not as great episodes, overall, season 5 is a true return to form with Arrow. The season long story arc was great, the action scenes are so much better, and lets not forget the introduction of one of the greatest Arrow villains since Slade Wilson/Death stroke, in the form of Josh Segara's creepy, insane, and just downright sinister Adrian Chase/Prometheus.
It's sad to see, but understandable as to why viewers left after seasons 3 and 4, but if anyone reading this is an old fan perhaps willing to give the show another chance, you wont be disappointed. Its a true return to what made Arrow great in seasons 1&2.
For those wondering, yes there's still a little bit of the Olicity stuff but its very much toned down and never truly a focus in the season as it was in the past.
But the culmination of the entire season in the final episode entitled: "Lian Yu" is perhaps one of the best, if not THE best episode of the entire series.
This season (concurrently with The Flash: season 3 and Legends of Tomorrow: season 2) also contains a true crossover to behold. The 3 part Invasion story started incredibly with The Flash episode, brought the emotion with the Arrow episode (which also served as Arrow's 100th episode), and was brought to an awesome and delightfully over the top end in the Legends episode.
I've been watching Arrow since the very first season and I've never stopped. I've never lost faith and I will continue to watch until the very end.

Orphan Black season 5

Orphan Black is the best show that has ever been on TV. It's so sad that Season 5 is the very last season, but it was good that the show got to wrap up the way it wanted to. I will miss it dearly. I loved all of the Leda Clones and will cherish them forever. Season 5 was everything I hoped it would be - I laughed, I cried, I loved it.
Tatiana Maslany deserves every award out there! I am constantly blown away by her ability and often forget she plays almost every character. My love to the OB cast. They truly are the best!
