Phenominal Tv series

The writing for this new TV series is superb and the acting is first rate. This is an emotional drama which at times will leave you in tears, while at other times will have you laughing out loud.
For those who enjoyed watching 'Parenthood', you'll no doubt find this series just as satisfying. It's a bit more serious, but it's also a very believable show that will pull on your heartstrings and emotions. The show features several plots and subplots and revolves around several different time periods. Somehow, the writers manage to tie all of the different scenes into a universal theme that makes this show stand apart from others. With all of the mediocre TV shows available for viewing, this compelling new drama/comedy leaves the others in the dust.
The bottom line is that this is one of the finest TV series currently on the air. It will undoubtedly be a show that continues to evolve. The plots are intelligently written and the performance by all of the cast are first rate. This is a show with staying power, and one of the few that is worthy of your time.
I believe that this series is the best show of its type that I've EVER watched. It just gets better and better each week. There are no words that I could write that would adequately convey how truly wonderful this show is. It's a blockbuster, not to be missed, incredibly well written and acted, one for the ages, unique and truly moving series that will impact the way you feel about life. This is as good as it gets!
After watching 'The Trip,' I'm truly at a loss for words. I'll just say that, 'This is Us' is a PROFOUNDLY moving series. Dan Fogelman, the creator, deserves credit for developing, what in my opinion, is a show like no other. It's better than anything I've ever seen. This series is so groundbreaking, that I honestly feel that after all is said and done; it will be remembered as the finest show to ever air on network TV. Every aspect of the series, takes things to a whole new level. There are no accolades that could be high enough to do it justice. Everyone involved in this unprecedented, incredible show, deserves credit for setting the bar extremely high, and exceeding all expectations by a mile. This is television at its absolute, very best, bar none.
'The Big Day,' was the finest single episode of any TV series, of any genre that I've seen in my entire life. PROFOUNDLY MOVING would be an understatement.

Episode Three has me hooked, and YES I am expecting zombies or something like that. I like the way it resonates with and comments on the original comic. And I am surprised that nobody has mentioned Once Upon A Time in the reviews I've seen - there's a genre analysis waiting to happen between them. At first, I thought that the dialogue was better than the acting and directing, but it all caught up and is coming together nicely. There's new ground here - and to be honest, I think that's a lot ,ore interesting than hashing over Town Peaks would be. Luckily, I just don't see the Town Peaks connection in anything but the most completely superficial sense; there are mountains, there are mysteries. But Riverdale is its own thing.

I have enjoyed Scorpion from the beginning, and Season 3 episode 2 gave me hope for this season as well. I have not liked the character Tim since he has been added, and he has thrown off the character dynamics. The chemistry with the team was much better before him, and has been much more argumentative and kept the team from working well together.
Plus, a single mom like Paige shouldn't date a guy who refers to her son as "the kid". Like other reviewers, I enjoy the geeky tech side, the action, with a balance of the human dynamics. Scorpion is my break from life-- I love the writing and appreciate if they can stay away from the confrontation. If I wanted to watch that, I would turn on the news....
Thank you for giving us a smart show.

The "cringe to laugh" ratio has increased

I own all ten seasons of TBBT on DVD. I think this will be the last season I buy. I don't have a TV, so I always wait until the disks are available, and then watch whole seasons.
For the first four seasons, it was consistently funny. Characters had nuance and more depth than is typical for a situation comedy. Leonard was the glue, but struggled with his shyness and insecurity about women. Sheldon said things that were inappropriate, but he came across as mostly clueless. Raj did good physical comedy, and Howard was a pitiful "player". Penny brought the "normal person" perspective, and made the whole recipe work.
Starting about season six or seven, all of those things started to change, and by this season almost all the things that made the series funny are gone. Leonard is a clueless dweeb who does stupid things for no reason. Sheldon is just mean. Raj is relegated to typical sitcom wisecracks that are not funny. Bernadette jumps between syrupy sweetness and loudly chewing everyone out. Etc. Only Kaley Cuoco as Penny has continued to do a somewhat nuanced performance.
What this means while watching season ten is that I cringe a lot more than I laugh. I think in the early seasons is was perhaps one cringe per ten laughs. Now it's about five cringes per one laugh. That's just not a pleasant viewing experience.
Now, most of this isn't the actors' fault. The writing and direction have become formulaic and trite. The atmosphere has gone to "typical sitcom farce" instead of leveraging the special nature of the geeky characters as in the first few seasons.
Season nine was not great, but not this bad, and some very mediocre episodes were made up by the last episode being really good. You would think that the season opener for season ten would build on that good episode, but instead it was just stupid, with too many characters being spiteful and mean-spirited.
They've got two more seasons in contract, and if they can't revitalize this show with some different writers and direction, I really hope it comes to an end.

Volume two is so much better than the first...

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 succeeds in pretty much every way it conceivably could have. The first installment was terrific, being both fun and exciting to an extent most movies aren't, and this new movie manages to be even better in every sense.
Questions raised during the previous movie are addressed, new characters are added into the mix while the already established characters are explored and given additional depth, and all of it is wrapped up in a fascinating story that is captivating and dramatic without taking itself too seriously.
Ignoring noise being carried in the medium of space, especially during what amounts to a fireworks display near the end, is really the biggest problem I have with this movie...and it's not like that is a piece of poor filmmaking exclusive to this movie.
I'm glad that James Gunn is on board to helm Volume 3, because he has handled this franchise precisely the way it should be treated.

One of the best TV show I watched in a long time ! If you love Once Upon a Time or these kinds of shows, go watch it ! It is really worth it ! It's dark, it's funny, there is love, there is pain, there is adventure. Toto is a big dog (sorry, if your dog is not bigger than a cat, it's not really a dog ! XD ) Actors are amazing (special thought to Ana Ularu who plays West) and the story is really well written.
But yes, you won't find the story from the book (anyway Dorothy is older) watching this show, and I don't think it was the purpose anyway, but I prefer this version a lot !
I will watch this again and again and again !

A Family Business...

"Blue Bloods" doesn't lose a step in its seventh season as CBS's top-rated Friday night drama. The show returns its well-chosen cast, featuring the Reagan family as multi-generational members of the New York law enforcement community. Tom Selleck leads as Frank Reagan, Police Commissioner of New York City.
This season's 22 episodes continue a familiar and successful formula of overlapping story lines, as Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), beat policeman Jamie (Will Estes), and Assistant District Attorney Erin (Bridget Moynahan) deal with their respective cases of the week. The season opens with Danny in trouble with an overzealous Attorney General for having shot a serial killer at the end of last season. Jamie will end up in jail for brawling with another cop who pays too much attention to his police partner Eddie Janko. Frank and Erin will spend much of the season stepping carefully through politically-charged legal cases. At season's end, Danny's run-in with a gang has terrible consequences for the whole family.
"Blue Bloods" continue to produce highly watchable stories that feature excitement, family drama, and moral challenges. The supporting cast is excellent, not least Len Cariou as Frank's father, himself a former police commissioner. Season Seven is highly recommended to fans of the franchise. Of note, Blue Bloods has been renewed for an eighth season.

Could CBS have screwed up any worse...
I think this last season was the best in a couple of years. Then they let Grace and Daniel go - how freaking stupid!!! The Steve and Danno bromance was getting really old, and the more recent roles that Grace and Daniel had nicely made up the difference. When you get down to it, they played more of a prominent part in recent years than Danno. Speaking of which, IMDB has Scott Cain as being in every episode, and anyone who is a regular knows that is far from the truth. I guess it counts if you mention their name during an episode.
Now rumor has it that the radiation sickness of Steve will be his excuse to leave at the end of Season 8 which typically means the end of the series - So Sad! What you will likely see is the CBS will try to milk as much money out of it as they can by extending it some way, but for us loyal fans, it died at the end of Season 7!

Story lines are weaker than previous seasons

“The Flash: The Complete Third Season” opens with forensic scientist Barry Allen, aka, The Flash (Grant Gustin), living his dream life. His parents are alive. He’s dating beautiful, smart Iris West (Candice Patton). And he’s able to stand back and let the new speedster in town, Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale), step in to protect Central City. But the better Barry’s life gets, the more dangerous it becomes. His nemesis, Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh), warns Barry of serious repercussions if he remains in the alternate Flashpoint universe. In addition to memory loss, his powers will fade. When disaster strikes, Barry must decide whether to continue life as Barry Allen or return to his universe as The Flash. As Barry deals with his identity crisis, he and the S.T.A.R. Labs team fight off lethal threats from the God of Speed, Savitar (Andre Tricoteux).
“The Flash” is based on the DC Comics character, a costumed superhero crime fighter with the power to move at superhuman speeds. The series follows Barry Allen, the Flash’s secret identity, a crime scene investigator who uses his incredible speed to fight criminals, including others who have gained superhuman abilities. “The Flash” was spun off from another DC Comics show, “Arrow,” and premiered on October 7, 2014. The pilot became the second most watched premiere in the history of the CW Network.
Season Three starts with the exciting episode “Flashpoint,” in which Barry teams up with Wally West/Kid Flash, but Wally is badly injured while the duo do battle with Wally’s nemesis, Edward Clariss. The timeline is reset and Barry’s memories are restored, but back in the present, Barry discovers that the timeline didn’t reset properly, causing new problems. As a whole, Season Three isn’t as sharply scripted as the first two seasons. The writers have put Barry Allen into bad situations of his own making, which brings up questions about his intelligence. It’s interesting to portray a superhero as less than perfect, but when a lead character repeatedly makes bad decisions, he seems unworthy of the amazing power fate has bestowed on him.

Ghostbusters: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson star as a quartet of Manhattan-based "paranormal investigators". When their government grants run out, the former three go into business as The Ghostbusters, later hiring Hudson on. Armed with electronic paraphernalia, the team is spectacularly successful, ridding The Big Apple of dozens of ghoulies, ghosties and long-legged beasties. Tight-lipped bureaucrat William Atherton regards the Ghostbusters as a bunch of charlatans, but is forced to eat his words when New York is besieged by an army of unfriendly spirits, conjured up by a long-dead Babylonian demon and "channelled" through beautiful cellist Sigourney Weaver and nerdish Rick Moranis. The climax is a glorious sendup of every Godzilla movie ever made-and we daresay it cost more than a year's worth of Japanese monster flicks combined. Who'd ever dream that the chubby, cheery Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man would turn out to be the most malevolent threat ever faced by New York City? When the script for Ghostbusters was forged by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, John Belushi was slated to play the Bill Murray role; Belushi's death in 1982 not only necessitated the hiring of Murray, but also an extensive rewrite. The most expensive comedy made up to 1984, Ghostbusters made money hand over fist, spawning not only a 1989 sequel but also two animated TV series (one of them partially based on an earlier live-action TV weekly, titled The Ghost Busters. Ghostbusters II: Ivan Reitman's sequel to the phenomenally successful Ghostbusters is looser and more self-assured than the original. The film opens with a title reading "Five Years Later" and finds the ghostbusters living in hard times. A restraining order has forbidden the boys to partake in paranormal warfare, and as a result they have had to seek other lines of work. Ray (Dan Aykroyd) and Winston (Ernie Hudson) spend their time performing at children's' birthday parties, and Egon (Harold Ramis) is busy conducting experiments investigating the effect of human emotions on the environment, leaving ghostbusting behind. Venkman (Bill Murray) and Dana (Sigourney Weaver) have split up. Venkman now hosts a local cable show called "The World of the Psychic." Dana, now divorced and the mother of a little baby named Oscar, works as an art restorer in a museum -- and this is where the plot kicks in. While Dana is restoring a portrait of a 16th-century tyrant by the name of Vigo the Carpathian, the portrait becomes hexed. The evil Vigo wants to return to life by taking over the body of Dana's little child. Vigo has enlisted Dana's boss, Janosz Poha (Peter MacNicol), to compel Dana to cooperate. Soon dirty sludge and slime flow through the streets of Manhattan, and the ghostbusters have to reunite to save the city from a funky paranormal evil.

The 1980s were home to a handful of memorable comedies, but Ghostbusters (1984) stands tall as one of the most original. For the five of you who haven't seen it, we're introduced to recently unemployed scientists Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) as they form a unique ghost removal service in the heart of New York City. Naturally, they don't have many clients at first: one of the few is Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver, above), who's recently encountered some unexplained happenings in the fridge. The three scientists---along with new recruit Winston Zeddmore (Ernie Hudson)---work their way up the paranormal food chain, eventually encountering an entity that threatens the entire city. Naturally, there's other roadblocks along the way, including whistle-blowing EPA agent Walter Peck (William Atherton) and the doubting public. It remains one of the undisputed classics of the comedy genre, though Ghostbusters doubles as a fine thriller in its own right.
Ghostbusters has held up surprisingly well over the last 20+ years, thanks to a sharp script, excellent performances, groundbreaking special effects and even a memorable theme song. The popularity of the original spawned an endless amount of toys, lunchboxes and even an animated series---but that's not to say that adults can't enjoy this one too. There's plenty of thrills along the way, but it's (thankfully) a film that doesn't take itself too seriously. From top to bottom, Ghostbusters was a terrific concept that was executed to near-perfection, thanks to the talent and creativity of the cast and crew. It's easily one of the strongest comedies of the 1980s (or any decade, for that matter) and truly deserving of its massive success and popularity.
The inevitable sequel, Ghostbusters II (1989), is an entertaining follow-up that rarely gets the respect it deserves. The original creative team of Aykroyd and Ramis teamed again with director Ivan Reitman to ensure the second outing was just as fun as the original...and it was, for the most part. Taking place a few years after the events of the first movie, the disbanded Ghostbusters (who went out of business due to property damage lawsuits) have scraped by in their own unique ways: doing unsuccessful public appearances (above), working in bookstores, you name it. Naturally, a new threat emerges to bring them back together; this time, it's a mysterious river of slime and a possessed painting at the museum where the recently-divorced (and single mother) Dana works. There's a few ill-timed jokes and gags that don't work as well, but the sharp writing is the star of the show once again. Additional highlights include a terrific performance by Peter MacNicol as the eccentric Dr. Janosz Poha, a cameo by Ben Stein, and Bill Murray's non-stop string of smart remarks.
While I was a bit too young to vividly remember the original film in theaters, I do recall seeing Ghostbusters II on the big screen...well, the first 70 minutes at least (my sister got really sick, so we had to leave). It's not quite as memorable as the first time around, but the film's many strengths really keep the pace going nicely. Chock full of laughs, over-the-top characters, suspense, and even a generous dose of embarrassing late late-'80s music (Bobby Brown, represent!), Ghostbusters II is a solid sequel that's better than you remember.
