Good entertainment, no Tombstone or Open Range

Not a bad western. Don't get me wrong, it's not a Tombstone or an Open Range. Hickok is a lower budget affair. That being said, the production values are pretty good. I've seen a lot worse in direct-to-video westerns. Along those lines, the acting is a sight better than many of these westerns that go straight to DVD and streaming.
Hemsworth is good in the title role. We get genre staples Kris Kristofferson, Bruce Dern, and Peter Sherayko, albeit in small roles. That is okay, because Hemsworth carries the film just fine. Trace Adkins, as the villain, has gotten better in his acting abilities and the western genre seems to suit him fine.
Overall, this is a solid effort. I would have liked a few more gunfights, but that's a small complaint.
Hickok doesn't do anything groundbreaking, and it isn't the best western to be released in recent years. However, it is good entertainment and as far as the direct-to-video market goes, this is one of the better ones. Recommended.

Not the shining moment from Bruce.

Was expecting something good from Bruce Willis, but this did not deliver. An actor of his caliber does not need to stoop to this level banal humor. Its almost as if it was written for titillated high school kids. I would not waste my time watching this again. Even John Goodman is better than this. Don't waste your money or time. If you're looking for the level of humor Willis is capable of like in the movies Red & Red 2, then absolutely don't bother with this movie.

The beggining or the end?

DC's Legends of Tomorrow survived its first season as well as SuperGirl's 2nd Season move from CBS to the CW station. Now the weekday is packed with Arrow, The Flash, SuperGirl, and DC's LOT all from the DC Universe. Not being a fan person of just DC or Marvel's it seems that DC has dominated the TV side of things while Marvel's focused on the Movies. After watching the first season of LOT, it seemed many thought it probably would not last or would get another season. After commenting about two certain characters which I felt were somewhat weak Kendra Saunders aka Hawk girl and Carter Hall aka Hawk man they were removed in Season 2. I'm wondering if the writers were listening. Some interesting twists of season 2 is Rip Hunter gets brainwashed and ends up being one of the henchman fighting against his former crew of Legends. This made his character more interesting since he was just the Captain of the Timeship but had no actual special powers other than his gun. But seeing his character acting as an American filmmaker and later brainwashed into the Legends' worst enemy this added more depth to his one dimensional character of season 1. Another bonus was seeing Gideon the artificial intelligence controlling the Timeship in the flesh (to not reveal to much). The loss of Leonard Snart and possibly Mick Rory probably connected to the new "Prison Break" series hopefully is temporary since it was obvious why they were originally chosen as part of the Legends because of their strong chemistry. Since most of the show involves Time Travel, it seems that "The Flash" might have some of the best writers on this subject so if they could tap into their writers for this show some more I'm sure it would elevate it. I found myself appreciating Season 2 more so those who gave up on this show in Season 1 should take another look as Season 3 could be better if they keep it up.

Season six wraps up the main storyline of our heroes and delivers a pitch perfect ending to a grand show. Once Upon a Time isn't always perfect but season six felt like a true return to form focusing more on our heroes (and villains) and their lives, what makes them tick and answered the age old question, can villains have their happy ending too? Also a first this season was a wonderfully done musical episode that is up there in quality with the best such as, "Once More With Feeling" on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. As the season begun to wind down I became all to aware of just how much I was going to miss this cast and this story and I will admit that hear about the mass cast exodus (probably due to contracts being up and budget cuts due to fading ratings).
Season 7 is happening, it takes place a decade or so into the future and does still feature some of the primary cast. I will admit that the spoilers so far do have me intrigued and the opening scene for the season seven premiere definitely peaked my interest so I'll no doubt be there. For those who watch this show or just want to know how season six ranked among the other seasons of the show, I will say that it was one of my favorite seasons in awhile and was definitely an upgrade over season five. I'm truly going to miss these characters and Storybrooke!

Feels like more of a chamber piece

Comparisons with the titanic “Breaking Bad: are inevitable, since this show shares not only creator Vince Gilligan but is a spin off of some key characters – here in an origin story taking place before “Breaking Bad”. But this new show – great in it’s own way – really is quite a different animal. “Breaking Bad” felt big, powerful, operatic. A Beethoven symphony of a show. While it had humor, the blasts of dark drama and tension dominated. “Better Call Saul” feels like more of a chamber piece, a string quartet, or a great jazz trio. Quieter, more intimate, leaning more towards the comic, its themes about America and success are mostly fed with a wink, and not a punch to the stomach. The pace is slower too. This is a character study, and it’s content to allow us to just watch some very interesting people working through their strange funny/sad lives without pushing the plot along all that much. It’s an outstanding show, but on its own terms, in its own way.
The acting is terrific. Bob Odenkirk creates a truly likable semi-sad sack with truly questionable morals and decision making ability, but a big heart. Jonathan Banks continues as one of the best television characters ever, his aging ex-cop a brilliant, cold, coiled snake, who always lets out just enough humanity to know that while this guy could kill you in a heartbeat if he had to, deep down he’s a good guy, a loving grandfather, a moral man. Michael McKean does a great job as Odenkirk’s deeply disturbed brother. He will always be a smarter, better lawyer than Jimmy, he will always hold a grudge, and he is Odenkirk’s exact opposite. The guy who – on paper – we should feel bad for, but who is just icy and venal enough to keep us at an intrigued distance. If the character has a weak spot it’s that he can get a bit repetitive, but that’s more a function of how the man is limited by his paranoid psychosis, not a limitation of acting or writing.
As with “Breaking Bad” the writing is specific, idiosyncratic, full of terrific dialogue that sounds naturalistic, but has just the right touch of poetry blended in. And as with it’s predecessor, the direction and cinematography is always at a high level, very cinematic, unafraid of staying in wide shots, or playing scenes in long takes instead of the rapid cutting that still dominates most TV – even very good TV. There are occasional lapses – I saw the twist ending of season 2 coming a mile off. But – if not as driven and instantly unforgettable as it’s parent show - this is intelligent, subtle and special television, not quite like anything else before or since.

Just keeps getting better and better. Smart, thought provoking, pulse pounding action with just the right amount of humor to keep you from biting all your fingernails off, mixed with the best character building, plot driven screenwriting , ever. The Last 4 seasons have continuously and flawlessly pulled its audience into each one of the characters lives. Many times it's a love/hate relationship, but. It's always deep and genuine. It really is entertainment at its best. It is constantly bringing up questions in my own mind about how I would react in a situation of survival. I wonder at times if our lives have been so easy and dependent on tech to take care of everything...could we make the hard call, the tough choice. Would we be loyal or the traitor. Any TV show that can entertain yet be thought motivating is an A+ in my mind.

Not a huge printer fan! I tend to get easily irritated by printers. Having tried Epson recently and been very upset I went back to HP. Tired of sucking up ink and lines in the print I went for the Laser Jet by HP. This one was easy to set up, got her to print the second try. It can also be connected using wireless or a USB cable included. Also liked this printer because toners are not pricey. You can scan, one by one, doesn't have a feeder. Serves my purpose, if you scan large documents; this might not be the right one for you. I totally recommend it!

"So, this is what it feels like."

Directed by James Mangold (The Wolverine, Walk the Line) from a screenplay by Mangold, Scott Frank (The Wolverine, Get Shorty) and (Heroes, American Gods), Logan is a finely crafted movie with a moving script and excellent performances that bring the Hugh Jackman Wolverine story-arc to a fitting conclusion.
The story is set in a not-too-distant future of 2029, but it's a world that's changed dramatically for mutants in general and for James "Logan" Howlett (Hugh Jackman in truly top form), who no longer goes by Wolverine, and Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart in arguably his best performance in the role), who's no longer a professor anywhere. The intervening years have not been kind to either man. Logan's healing factor is failing, his body having apparently been slowly poisoned over time by the adamantium fused into his skeleton as part of the Weapon X program. Xavier, who's now in his 90's, is physically frail but also suffers from advancing neurological degeneration and seizures which must be suppressed medically to avoid devastating telepathic eruptions that can lay out anyone who happens to be in the vicinity. With assistance from fellow mutant Caliban (Stephen Merchant), Logan looks after Charles, holed up in an abandoned factory near the Texas/Mexico border where he works as a limo driver for rich tourists.
Logan, Xavier and Caliban are seemingly among the last mutants around. For some reason, no new mutants have been born in the last twenty-five years. Or so it would seem until they encounter an 11-year-old girl named Laura (Dafne Keen who definitely holds her own in scenes with Jackman and Stewart), of whom Xavier tells Logan "She's like you... very much like you."
The good thing about the screenplay is that you don't need more than a basic familiarity with the main characters - Jackman's Wolverine and Patrick Stewart's Professor X - to follow what's going on.
One of the best things about Logan as a film, which helps make it arguably the best film of the X-Men/Wolverine series, is due to the excellent screenplay that allows both Jackman and Stewart to really flex their considerable acting talents and bring new depth and perspectives to their roles as Logan and Xavier, characters for whom the world has vastly changed and not in good ways. As is already hinted at in the trailers, Logan's healing factor is failing him as is Xavier's health and mind. The end of the road is all too visible for both men and both have to face their personal doubts and fears in ways they never had to before. As a result, Jackman and Stewart give the best performances of their characters to date, not to mention some of the best performances of their careers. It is a credit to young Dafne Keen that she can hold her own in her scenes with these two veterans as well as the scenes where she's on her own.
The musical score by Marco Beltrami (The Wolverine, The Hurt Locker) is suitably atmospheric, suggesting a worn-down weariness in some scenes but jumping into an edgy adrenaline-rush feeling in others, but always in the background, never over-powering or distracting from what's happening on the screen.
Highly, highly recommended for anyone who's ever been a fan of superhero movies in general, of the X-men series in particular, or of just great story-telling and moving performances by a great cast.

First of all this is a movie about fighting monsters - not a fact based historical epic. Don't take it that seriously and you'll have a good time.
The Great Wall tells the story of a group of Western mercenaries, searching for a powerful substance known as black powder, in China. Soon, they get involved in protecting the Great Wall of China against an army of monsters, known as the Taotie.
Overall, there is a good balance between East and West. A Western screenplay by Max Brooks keeps things going quickly without the irritating self sacrifice and slow dialog of the recent Dragon Blade movie (Jackie Chan, Adrien Brody). Director Zhang Yimou is known for extravaganzas and sometimes the action does look acrobatic but it's not too bad. The excessive slow motion deaths and explosions that plague some Chinese movies isn't such a problem here.
This was an all-out action movie that explored the themes of greed and sacrifice, nobility and savagery. Yimou's masterful direction elevates the movie above standard action fare, giving moments of truly astounding visuals. His use of color not only adds to the visual flair, but also helps to add coherence to the movie while the editing is never confusing.
With a running time of less than 2 hours, viewers expecting in-depth characterization along the lines of "Hero" and "Curse of the Golden Flower" will be disappointed. The quiet scenes were a bit lacking, leaving the audience emotionally cold.
Nevertheless, it’s not a bad movie and certainly not ambitious enough to deserve any of the vitriol people read into the story without ever watching the movie. I was entertained but not awestruck.

Best Star Wars Yet!

I haven't felt this way about a star wars film since I first saw the movies in the seventies and eighties, but this one is in a whole different league grittier, not even remotely as cheerful as the other movies were, in addition this one had a decent amount of Starfighter combat and fleet action, and those scenes were very heavily detailed. long story short this is the star wars movie that I have been waiting for, and I can't wait to see what Disney comes up with next.
