Thrilling, Tickling and Touching

This movie combines so many different elements that it's hard to review them all at once. First, there's the central character's drama. After he's gotten good and used to the adulation his racing career brings, it has to stop. A 'medical' condition threatens to kill him if he pursues that 110% lifestyle. So, he sets his sights elsewhere - not lower (as he was to find), but elsewhere, and among others, each with a past of their own.
Then there's a "little engine that could" subtext, with plenty of setbacks. There's also the inspiring thought that a hero doesn't need to be a hero to anyone, or even known to be heroic. ("How do I get my picture on that wall?") There's more in that thought that I realized at first, the notion of being your own hero, and a real one, not just an ego-fantasy. Also, self-worth through achievement instead of an entitled feel-goodism, and seeing many contributors making very different contributions, and the snarky sense of comeuppance when that self-serving bureaucrat gets his mud-flaps pinned back, it all adds up to a healthy view of what a truly good life can be, in terms kids can grasp.
But John Lassiter produced this and that's as good as a promise signed, sworn, and notarized saying you'll get technical excellence welded to warm characterization. Go back to his 1986 'Luxo Jr,' and give that talent thirty years to mature - that's what you'll see here. And, as a Disney flick, you have some assurance of kid-safeness

SLEEPING BEAUTY REVISITED
on November 7, 2014

Maleficent is a remake of the Disney classic "Sleeping Beauty." I assumed that I knew what it was going to be about but, it turned out to be a totally unpredictable and amazing movie. Maleficent is about a betrayed fairy (Angelina Jolie) that curses the king's infant daughter Aurora as revenge. She soon discovers that when Aurora grows up, she is the only one who can restore the peace and happiness that everyone needs to get them out of the depression caused by revenge and war. This movie takes "Sleeping Beauty" and turns it into a completely different movie.
By far, this is the best Disney movie I've seen and one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. Everything is just right. For example, the music sets the right mood in every scene. It is strong and loud when it needs to be and quite and shy at other times and, at certain points, it is playful and happy. It really pulls the whole movie together. Along with the jaw-dropping music, this movie has amazing actors starting with Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning (Auora). They fit each role perfectly almost as if they were born for these roles.
This movie is very interesting to watch because it isn’t entirely based on "Sleeping Beauty" so you get to see a completely different side of Maleficent before she becomes the villain that she is known as. Throughout the movie I found myself wanting the movie to go quicker to see what would happen next but not wanting it to end anytime soon. I think that the director Robert Stromberg and the writers Linda Woolverton and Charles Perrault really outdo themselves with this movie because I cannot stop obsessing about how great it is.

Love the Movie and the storyline!

I love all the transformers movies, just because they're entertaining. I know they're not critically acclaimed for the acting or the heart-wrenching story like say a Terms of Endearment, but they're not supposed to be. They're action, they're visually spectacular, and very fun! It's escapism at it's best. Watching these movies with a nice surround system is a must. The explosions, the sounds of the transforming, all of it is a much better experience with surround and a good subwoofer! I can do without 2 things in the movies...the eye candy that is the chicks in short shorts! To me, it just doesn't add to the movie. I guess because I'm not a adolescent teenage boy. Secondly, is the language. it seems like all sequels, things are pushed further each time another one is made. There was more profanity in this one than the others. It too doesn't add to the movie. My 4 year old son loves Transformers, too and I don't want him picking up the language. I know one day he will be exposed to it, but c'mon! These movies are enjoyed by all age groups, Michael Bay, please tone down those 2 things and all will be well. Mark Wahlberg did a good job in the movie... I like his movies anyway. I didn't miss Shia LaBeouf or any of the other actors from the previous ones. Also, this one had more work done on the video side. I loved the robots! All of them were too cool...Lockdown is a bad dude! His walk, his whole demeanor...I found myself liking him. Those Dinobots were massive! I can't wait to watch it again...and for the next one, which is probably already in the works.

The Bidge is a smart, sad, enveloping show that makes one think. Not a lazy show to watch. Complex stories and people. Great show.

This hard hitting release from the sizzling espionage series Nikita includes all six episodes of the show's fourth season, adapting the story of La Femme Nikita once again, following the story of a top secret organization that recruits troubled and often criminally convicted young people, which bites off more than it can chew with the fierce, former delinquent Nikita.

Too bad to see season 4 is the final one, because this is a show I'd watch for many more years. Season 4's off to a solid start, it would be great if they'd find a way to continue it. Maggie Q's a great female lead, and the rest of the cast is a solid ensemble. Way to go, guys - thanks for making action-packed, smartly filmed shows. Really enjoying them all - it would be good to see it continue somehow for a 5th/6th season and beyond. It's great spycraft and engaging to watch, very well done.
The writing's even better than ever this season, very clever plot twists, focused production and 'star power' from MQ and the rest of the team is outstanding. update 12/28 - just watched the series finale, superb writing and acting; i wish all final eps were this well done for other series.
To the cast, writers and crew - this was a series to be proud of; you all set the bar high and overdelivered. Thanks - Nikita was great! Memorable and very well done.
to the action,
-ken

I don't understand the varied reviews of this show. The "100" are juvenile delinquents released from their space station prison sentences to populate a radiated earth: earth is most likely not habitable. But down they go, and when they get to earth they not only experience a "planet" for the first time, but they also have just been released from prison. So imagine, 100 irresponsible criminals get dropped on an earth that hasn't seen a human in 97 years; you might expect to see some strange behavior and you do. The setting is pretty awesome, the characters are interesting and unless the writers completely drop the ball on the story, then you can expect a pretty good show. Also note, all the bad reviews have come from people who have just seen a single episode (who's expectations were probably unrealistic in the first place). This is one of the better pilots I have seen.
