Gorgeous illumination, 19000 DPI, customizable
on June 26, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
Excellent wireless symmetrical mouse! It’s light, but feels well built. Gives off beautiful light and color sequences, tracks accurately, and has lots of customization options through the
ROCCAT Swarm app. The built-in battery lasts about 100 hours and charges quickly through the USB-C port. It comes with a really nice and soft cloth USB-C cable for charging, updates, and wired connection, but you can also connect through the supplied wireless usb dongle or bluetooth. Use the wireless dongle or wired connection for the quickest response (gaming), but the bluetooth connection was smooth and stable, without any disconnect issues. By default, the center button below the mouse wheel is used to change between 5 preset DPI speeds. It can be set as low as 50dpi and up to a ridiculous 19,000dpi, with all 5 customizable in the Swarm app. That app is where the Burst Pro Air gets special, because it allows you to customize the DPI switcher, button assignments, illumination, scroll speed, polling rate, and setup macros. It also allows you to save up to 5 different profiles for quick setup between programs. I love how the macro presets even include one for Photoshop. Thankfully, Swarm has a good user interface that’s easy to use and figure out.
Overall, the Roccat Burst Pro Air is excellent both as a gaming and everyday mouse. The illumination is genuinely beautiful, with solid performance, long battery life, and loads of customization options. If you’re looking for a wireless symmetrical mouse, I highly suggest the Roccat Burst Pro Air.

Good mop, good vac, bad maps.
on June 22, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
Not a bad robot vacuum and mop starter bundle, but the i3+ obstacle avoidance and mapping feature need more work. From my understanding it doesn’t have a camera or lidar, but basically bumps around and feels its way around a room to map it. Or at least that’s how it seems watching it work. It was like seeing Mr. Magoo trying to work his way out of a room. Which is precisely the problem I’m having with the i3+. It won’t leave the room! I’ve sent it on over a dozen mapping runs and it just maps the room it’s in and then finishes the mapping run by going “home”. And this exposes a big flaw of the Roomba “smart map” feature in that it only creates a map from one mapping run and doesn’t continually add onto the map as it finds new areas. As it stands, I’ve done over a dozen mapping runs and the i3+ won’t leave the room it’s in to map and thus misses the rest of the house. Coming from lidar equipped robovacs, this leaves a lot to be desired. On the other hand, I do like how I can put it in any room, press clean, and it’ll bump around the room to “scan” it and vacuum it in an orderly fashion. It just won’t be able to make it home on its own. And because I can’t get it to make a map of the rest of the house, I can’t designate rooms and can’t use the features I was excited for, like telling Google to “vacuum the living room”.
Aside from that, the i3+ vacuums well and is able to get over floor transitions about 3/4” high. The Roomba app also has a nice interface with which is easy to read and use, but again, the “smart mapping” leaves a lot to be desired. I’m sure if I placed it somewhere wide open to the rest of the house it’ll do a better job mapping, but I’ve also seen it completely ignore sections for reasons I can’t fathom. And while i3+ is Mr. Magoo, the Braava Jet m6 robomop, is the much more competent member of this duo. I don’t know if it uses different sensors to scan a room, but it was a lot more thorough and adventurous than the i3+. I placed it in the hallway to start and I found it working in every room, gently squirting and mopping away. It does a fairly thorough job, and I was legitimately impressed by how clean my hardwood floors felt. I’m having the same struggle with doing mapping runs with the m6, but since you’re supposed to place it in the room you want it to mop to begin with, I don’t mind not having the map setup yet. It’s also how I’m using the i3+ now, until I can get it to map the rest of the house.
Overall, this could be a good starter bundle if the i3+ maps your house correctly. It’s Google and Alexa compatible, so if you can get a proper map, you can tell it to vacuum the guest room and live the futuristic dream.

Excellent sound bar that's quick and easy to setup
on June 8, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
Polk’s Signa S4 is an excellent plug-n-play soundbar that’s a huge upgrade over TV speakers. All you need to do to get going is to mount it where you’d like, plug in the optical or HDMI input, plug in the power, and you’re good to go! You’ll get the best sound quality if you have a TV with an eARC HDMI output, and I’m happy to say it works flawlessly with newer Samsung TV’s (just make sure you activate eARC in your TV audio settings). Upon turning it on for the first time, it automatically synced up with the TV and I could immediately control the volume using my TV remote. No setup needed at all. Which is a running theme with this sound bar, because outside of the dialogue and bass volume, there aren’t any other methods to tune the audio. It’s just “set and forget”, which I usually dislike, but it’s a different story when it already sounds good and Polk lives up to their reputation here. Using the included remote, the buttons are big and easy to read. It has dedicated buttons to adjust the overall bass, 3 levels of dialogue amplification, a night mode button, and movie mode button for a full range experience. After setting the bass and dialogue though, I honestly rarely ever touch it. It automatically upmixes audio for the best sound and it consistently sounds good with whatever I throw at it. Which has essentially been a bunch of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Disney+ streaming, but I’m happy to say it works great with all of them. And while it sounds good with everything, there’s a noticeable upgrade when it comes to Atmos encoded movies.
Soundwise, the Signa S4 creates an excellent front stage setup with deep bass for a proper home theater experience. It’s just strong enough to be respectable without upsetting your neighbors, and the night mode works well if you don’t want to wake up your house mates. The sound stage feels open with a width that matches the TV well. It’s not a proper surround system with rear speakers for a 360 experience, but it offers an excellent front stage that’s a huge upgrade over any TV speakers. At about 2” high and less than 4” deep, it’s also fairly compact overall, which makes for a clean, low profile wall mount. The wireless subwoofer comes synced, so it just needs to be plugged in and is about the size of three 6 packs stacked on top of each other. It pairs with the sound bar perfectly and offers a depth to the audio that TV speakers physically can’t match. If you’re looking for a quick and easy audio upgrade for your TV, especially if it has eARC, ARC, or optical audio output, I highly recommend the Signa S4.
PROS
- Excellent sound quality
- Full bass
- Quick and easy setup
- Great front stage
- "set and forget" speaker system
- Easy bass and dialogue controls on remote
- Bluetooth input
- Compact wireless sub is stronger than it seems
- Low profile design
- Dolby Atmos
CONS
- Not many audio tuning controls
- Not 360 surround (no rear speakers)

Fantastic melodical bass, excellent sound quality.
on May 20, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 earbuds offer good noise reduction and excellent sound quality, right out of the box. The bass is deep and melodical, the vocals are clear and the highs sound natural without being harsh. The soundstage even feels a bit open, which is rare for earbuds. It sounds good playing any genre, but it’s the well balanced and musical bass that really shines. I appreciate it the more I listen to these earbuds and I think it definitely lives up to the Sennheiser reputation for sound quality. Unfortunately, if you want to make any sound adjustments, the app only offers a 3 band EQ, Bass Boost, and a Podcast EQ preset. The app is sparse for sound options, but it’s a good thing there isn’t much tuning needed to sound great.
Outside of excellent sound quality, the active noise reduction works well and is supposedly ever “adapting” to provide the best noise reduction. It doesn’t cancel everything out, but it does a good job of toning down a hectic world. There’s even a wind option in the app to help with wind noise and distortion. The ambient noise mode works well and there’s a fader in the app that lets you adjust how much sound you want to pass through. Aside from the bass, another thing that really impressed me is how well the touch buttons work. It’s surprisingly accurate, which has not been my experience with touch control earbuds until now. The touch area is just big enough to not have to feel for it, which makes controlling it while on the move a practical affair. I used to hate touch controls for earbuds, but this set is an exception.
Overall, even with the limited tuning options, I love how musical these sound. They fit great, have a long battery life, and stay put while I’m on the move. The mid-high end ANC earbud market is tough, but the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 is a solid contender. Highly recommended!
PROS
- Excellent sound quality
- Good ANC noise reduction
- Good “ambient noise” mode
- Good bass
- Good fit with fitment options
- aptX bluetooth codec (better sound quality)
- Responsive touch buttons
- IPX4 splash resistant
- Nice design
- Wireless charging case
- Long battery life (7 hours playback + 21 hours in case)
CONS
- Few audio tuning options
- EQ only 3 bands
- Case is small but a bit bulky for pockets

Fast and easy to setup with excellent WiFi range.
on February 19, 2022

The Netgear Orbi AXE11000 is considered THE top of the line WiFi consumer mesh system on the market today, and I can see why. I have mine replacing an old Deco system that has worked well over the years, but this thing blows it out of the water. With stations in the exact same place as my previous system, I can now get reception just past my backyard deck, where before I had to stay much closer to the house. And because of the better connection, I’m getting faster speeds too. I haven’t tried it yet, but streaming HD movies to the backyard should be a much better experience now. It already seems like I’m getting better picture quality with fewer artifacts in my TV’s built-in smart apps. Aside from the better range, I have some newer devices that use WiFi 6, and it’s downright awesome to see my laptop connected with over 1Gb/s of transfer speed.
Setup, connecting, and actually using the Orbi AXE11000 was the most pain free experience I’ve had setting up a router as well. I already have the Fios modem’s built-in WiFi turned off, so my setup was as simple as unplugging my Fios modem/router, letting it boot back up, connecting the Orbi to it, press a few buttons on the app, and everything was up and running in about 15 minutes. I reused the same network ID and password, so every device but one connected to it automatically. Each wireless station has 4 ethernet ports, which essentially work as a wireless hub and has been working flawlessly so far. One feature that I really like about the app is how easy it is to see each device connected to Orbi, which enables you to custom name them and pause their individual connection. In fact, you can even create groups of devices and turn off/on their internet connection with one click. I can see this being very handy for managing the family’s internet time, as well as restricting some devices if needed. Make a group of devices for each person in the family, do it by room, devices, etc… it’s pretty nifty how easy it is to set up and use.
So far my experience with the Orbi AXE11000 has been amazing, but despite the high price tag it’s missing a key feature some people might be looking for. I don’t see any options to make custom data traffic or priority rules. Nothing to prioritize video, or gaming, or specific devices like some other WiFi routers and mesh systems do. It’s something I enjoyed with the Deco, but find it absent here. On the other hand, I haven’t felt like I needed it since installing the Orbi either. Maybe it manages traffic so quickly and well that there’s no need to fiddle with such things? And if that’s the case, awesome, because it’s one less thing to manage.
The Orbi AXE11000 quad-band WiFi mesh system is one of the fastest wireless router systems in the market today, with features that should keep it future proof for many years to come. Setting up and using the system is simple, and you won’t need to upgrade WiFi systems for quite a long while (in tech years at least). With the capability to handle up to 15GB/s, 4 WiFi bands, WiFi 6E capability, 2.5GB ethernet ports, long range, and ability to connect over 200 devices, the AXE11000 is a good fit for businesses that need to manage their WiFi connections, families that want to manage their kids internet time, anyone that wants to future proof their WiFi, or simply wants the best and fastest available. If you don’t mind the Orbi not being able to prioritize device connections and got the beans for it, I highly recommend the Orbi AXE11000. It is blazing.
PROS
- Simple and quick setup
- App is stable and easy to use
- Amazing WiFi connection speeds (over 1G to my laptop)
- Getting full use of my Fios Gigabit plan
- Far WiFi range
- Very easy to turn off/on WiFi connection per device
- Easy to setup Guest WiFi
- Each station has 4 ethernet ports
- Futureproof for a good while
- Quad band
- Capable of up to 10Gb/s WiFi speeds
- Can handle 15GB/s broadband connection
- Relatively small footprint
- Netgear Armor service works seamlessly blocking phishing sites
CONS
- No data traffic customization options

Quiet, compact, and easy to use, at a great price!
on January 27, 2022

from Olney, MD
The Kyvol HD3 is a super quiet and compact humidifier at an excellent price point. The most noise you’ll hear is a slight trickle of water as it gets used up in the tank, but that’s about it. This machine barely makes a noise, which should make a lot of light sleepers happy. However, my favorite feature is probably the large 1.2 gallon water tank. Depending on how high of a level you use it at, it can run for a couple days without needing a refill. It also doesn’t take up much floor space as it’s built more like a small tower. Size wise, it’s roughly 8”x8” square and a foot tall. Compact enough to fit just about anywhere, it sports a dark gray, modern aesthetic which should go well with most decors. Usage wise, it doesn’t get more simple than having one dial to turn it on and adjust the vapor level. There’s no detents in the dial for precise levels, but humidifiers don’t need to be that precise. Time will only tell how much of a pain the tank will be to clean in the long run, but if you use distilled or reverse osmosis water and flush it out with a vinegar mix every week, you should be good to go. Pretty standard operating procedure for humidifiers and this one keeps it easy.
There are a few small things I wish the HD3 had, but they’re not deal breakers. The fit and finish is ok, but not top of the line. The tank and base attach well, but if you look closely, the panels aren’t perfectly flush. The top cover where the adjustable nozzle is, is also a bit difficult to remove. It bends up easily on one side, but I can’t get it to release easily on the other. I’m sure there’s a trick to it that I’m missing, but I feel like that part should be more simple. If there’s any major change I’d recommend, it’s having a clear water level window that goes along the body of the water tank. Sure there’s a window on top to look through, and it’ll automatically turn off when it’s out of water, but I’d like to have a better sense of how much water is left with a glance. Again, all small things that aren’t deal breakers. If you’re looking for something fancier with a remote and an automatic humidity sensor, they’re out there, but if you just want a quiet, easy to use, attractive, and compact humidifier at a very affordable price, I highly suggest the Kyvol HD3.
PROS
- Super quiet
- Large capacity water tank
- Produces a lot of vapor
- Automatic shut off when it runs out of water
- Attractive modern design
- Doesn’t take up much space
- Excellent price point
CONS
- Need better water level window
- Top nozzle cover a little hard to remove
- No towels underneath of base

Super smooth 1440p@165 on a budget!
on January 18, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
from Olney, MD
Element has been making budget friendly TVs for a while, so it’s interesting to see how their monitors hold up. This 27” IPS screen is sharp at 1440p, with a wide viewing angle, good brightness, and eye popping color rendition. Through the DisplayPort 1.2 input, it’s capable of running 1440p at 165hz, while HDMI is “limited” to 144hz. I doubt you could tell the speed difference between the two inputs, so just use what’s convenient. It’s Freesync compatible, and I’m happy to report it works with NVIDIA’s G-Sync as well. Playing Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Doom Eternal, and The Ascent (all at 2560x1440@165) was an eye opening experience, with sharp detail, bright color, and super smooth video. It felt like a whole new experience vs my old 1080p monitor and I’m honestly a bit surprised my computer and graphics card kept up. I doubt the frame rates will stay this high going to 4k, so QHD isn’t a bad compromise between speed and graphics. And while I’m ecstatic about playing on this monitor, it isn’t without a few flaws. The built-in speakers are convenient, but also sound awful and therefore don’t get used. There’s some backlight bleed at the bottom edges, but it’s only noticeable in really dark scenes. Natively, color temp runs on the cool side and despite adjusting it a fair bit, I think it still runs a little cool. I might just need to tinker with the settings more, but it doesn’t take away from the overall image quality.
Overall, Element is offering a solid QHD gaming monitor at a budget friendly price. It puts out beautiful, fast video that’s excellent for gaming and a noticeable improvement over 1080p. It has a few flaws, but playing Doom Eternal and Halo Infinite in 2560x1440 @165hz will quickly make you forget about them. This is an excellent entry level QHD gaming monitor and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to upgrade from 1080p.
- Sharp 1440p picture
- Good color rendition
- Smooth and fluid picture
- Freesync compatible with NVIDIA G-Sync
- 1 Display Port 1.2 input
- 2 HDMI inputs
- Good value
- Rear light ring dim
- Speakers are meh
- Thin bezel
- Runs a little cool
- Backlight bleed near bottom corner edges

Great for travelers and devices without Bluetooth.

Good sounding ANC earbuds, but love the wireless plug-in feature most of all. It lets you plug the case into any headphone jack and basically turns it into a bluetooth transmitter for the headphones. It’s a really handy feature that I found myself using way more than I thought I would. I keep the bluetooth connected to my phone, and I use the plug-in feature to quickly hook up to my laptop or desktop. This makes it an easy hook up to my work computer too, but it’s only for audio, so I have to use the bluetooth connection to use the mic for Zoom and Teams. Not a big deal. I also like how I can use just 1 ear bud and it doesn’t matter which side. It seamlessly disconnects and reconnects when I decide to use the other one again, which is kind of amazing considering other high end brands struggle to make this transition so smooth. If you decide to keep both earbuds in, the Ambient Sound mode works great at letting environmental sounds through with a natural tone and there’s a vocal focus feature that works great at projecting voices more clearly. The active noise canceling is solid at muffling loud sounds and crowd noise, but it doesn’t go totally silent. To get the best sound and noise canceling experience, be sure to try out all of the earbud cushion sizes to find the best fit. The ANC needs a good ear seal to work properly, and that goes for the sound quality as well. Which leads me to an odd experience I have with these.
The earbud cushions are soft, medical grade material, but it almost feels like they’re too soft. They feel weird when I put them in, like they don’t seem to “lock” in like my other earbuds do, but they stay in place well and are comfortable enough that I forget I’m wearing them sometimes. I think I’m just used to a firmer cushion and need to get more used to the softer style. A good ear seal is critical to good audio and noise canceling for these kinds of headphones. With the LG Tone Free app, you can access the adjustable EQ, noise canceling, ambient sound, touch pad control, and a few other feature settings. Audio is tuned by Meridian, which excited me as an old school audiophile, but I wasn’t blown away. They sound good overall, the sound is full and the bass is detailed, but there’s a certain “openness” to the soundstage that’s missing. Like the sound is well controlled, but a little restrained… if that makes sense. But while it’s not the absolute best sounding ANC earbuds out there, they’re certainly one of the most useful.
The case is tiny, yet holds an additional 24 hours of charge, doubles as a bluetooth transmitter, and even has a built-in UV sterilization light to keep the earbuds sanitary. The earbuds are low profile, attractive, and offer good sound quality with excellent ambient sound pass through. If you’re constantly hooking up to multiple devices, travel frequently, or have a lot of audio devices without a bluetooth connection, I highly recommend the LG Tone Free FP9 headphones.
- Good sound quality
- Moderate bass
- Good noise canceling
- Plug in feature is very useful (laptop, gaming, planes)
- Low profile
- Looks good
- Comfortable
- Feels weird putting in
- Stays put well
- UV sterilization case
- Ambient audio works well
- Can’t adjust ambient audio pass through volume
- Proper critical to sound quality and noise canceling
- Great for traveling
- 10 hour charge/24 with case

Holds 20,000mAh + quick charges 3 device at once!

from Olney, MD
Another solid battery pack by Anker. This has been their bread and butter since the beginning, and I’m happy to see they’re still as solid as ever. If you’re familiar with their line up, the PowerCore III 20k is exactly what you’d expect. As the name signifies, it holds/provides up to 20,000mAh of power through 2 USB-A 3.0 ports with Anker’s own PowerIQ technology for fast and safe charging. What’s not so clear, but really useful, is that the USB-C charging port works both ways and can charge devices as well. In fact, it charges faster than the USB-A ports, which is a bit odd because the description says that both USB-A ports are Qualcomm QuickCharge compatible, but I was only able to get it to fast charge my LG v50 through the USB-C port. Either way, none of the ports are slouches, and with 20k mAh of power in a slim, pocketable brick I can fully charge my phone from 5% at least 4 times over, with juice to spare. The trickle charge feature is pretty neat too, and really useful in preventing blowing out batteries with too fast of a charge (headphones, vape batteries, etc…). Outside of trickle and fast charging, there really isn’t much to the PowerCore III 20k, and that’s not a bad thing. It’s compact, can recharge 3 devices at once, is easy to use, reliable, fast charges, and comes at an affordable price point. If there’s any downsides, it might be a bit heavy for some people, but is on par for a 20,000 mAh battery. It also seems like it takes a long time to recharge, but again, it’s a 20,000 battery. Such is life. If you’re looking for a pocketable USB charger to power your phone and some LED lights for a weekend camping trip this should fit the bill. For the day to day, 20k will give you lots of fast charging power to spare. And best of all, it’s easy to take with you. Good job Anker!

Liberty 3 Pro are the perfect blend of high quality sound and noise cancellation. With our exclusive ACAA 2.0 technology, you’ll hear deep lows, crystal-clear highs, and very present mids. HearID ANC analyzes your ears and provides noise cancellation based on your environment. A triple-point ergonomic shape means you can wear these buds all day, comfortably. With the case, you get up to 32 hours of playtime (8 hours from the earbuds themselves) so you’ll have long-lasting listening sessions.

Outstanding ANC earbuds by Soundcore, which is an Anker brand. I was kind of surprised to see them put out a set of ANC earbuds at this price point, but they more than live up to their reputation for quality, performance, and value. In fact, the Liberty 3 Pro feels like a significant step forward for an Anker product and I’m excited if it's a sign of what’s to come. Not only do these earbuds sound great, but you can run a diagnostic with HearID to tune the sound to your hearing and it sounds amazing. Not only does this make music sound better, but it helps prevent people from turning the volume too high because they can’t hear “everything”. This results in fine, detailed, and balanced music without having to blast your ears, which in turn prevents hearing loss. It’s a win-win, and a feature I hope to see from more headphone manufacturers. Talking about saving your ears…
The Active Noise Reduction does a great job with a proper seal. It’s customizable through the Soundcore app, which lets you choose between an Adaptive or Manual mode, with tests to tune the ANC based on the earbud seal and current environment. It works well cutting out noise in most situations, though I had some issues while mowing the lawn. I had the ANC in Adaptive mode and at times it would frequently jump between more aggressive and lighter noise reduction. I think this is because the earbuds started shifting around, which loosened the ear seal and caused the ANC to constantly adapt to a new noise level. It’s the only time I had any kind of issue with the ANC, but I think switching it to manual mode will fix it. On the other hand, I’m very happy to report that the Transparency ANC mode, which lets environmental sounds pass through without having to remove your headphones, works very well. There’s a good amount of clarity and range of sound that passes through, and the vocal focus mode really helps in hearing people more clearly. I’m usually upset when I have to download another app to go with my headphones, but with the amount of tuning and personalization features available in the Soundcore app, I’m more than happy to have it.
In terms of build quality, it's typical high quality Anker. No fuss with that here, but I’m pretty impressed by the design. The earbuds themselves are relatively low profile with looks that belong in the lux segment. I absolutely love the case, which easily fits in any pocket and looks slick with a door that slides open. What’s even more slick is that it’s wireless charging compatible, making it super convenient. I know it sounds lazy, but if you have a wireless charger, you feel me.
I highly recommend the Liberty Pro 3 if you’re looking for a high quality set of ANC earbuds. They sound outstanding with crisp highs, detailed vocals, tight mids, and respectable lows. Fitment is key, but that’s why they come with 4 sizes of ear cushions and wing tips to accommodate most ears. The HearID sound calibration and tuning options in the Soundcore app are worthwhile and make these a very strong performer. Highly recommended!

HYPERBOOM rocks a supermassive sound and extreme bass that takes your party into the stratosphere. Its phenomenal dynamic range brings your tracks to life, rendering every sound level in gorgeous detail. The brainy adaptive EQ reads the room—or patio, or rooftop—and automatically customizes the speaker’s sound until it’s utterly perfect for the space. Two Bluetooth, one auxiliary and one optical inputs let you and your friends connect four devices and easily switch between them, so the music never has to stop! With a rechargeable up to 24 hour battery, HYPERBOOM goes all night—and anywhere—from your living room dance-off to the ragin’ roof party.

Does it provide power to whatever is plugged in via the auxiliary input? (e.g. old iPod plugged in with poor battery life)

The Hyperboom has a USB port that's specifically for powering other devices so you should be good!

Can the AW510k keyboard be purchased with Cherry MX Red SILENT switches?

It currently uses the Cherry MX red switches, which I believe by color code are the silent switches.
