Portable, smart projector, good in ambient light
on October 22, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
The Epson Flex CO-FH02 is an excellent general use projector at a good value. It’s lightweight and compact enough to comfortably carry in a suitcase or backpack. It’s bright enough to use in ambient light, and it only takes about 9’ to cast a 92” image. This makes it great for mobile business presentations, because it’s easy to pack and travel with and you don’t need to completely darken the room for people to see what you’re presenting. This also makes it good for tradeshow use, and of course it also works well for the home theater. The built-in speaker is ok in a pinch if the room is fairly silent. It’s reasonably loud and clear for dialogue, and would be fine in a quiet meeting room, but I highly recommend using it with a bluetooth speaker for most other purposes.
The one major downside to this projector is that it only has 1 input, which at least is HDMI. The problem is that it comes with a Chromecast/Android TV stick that turns it into a “smart” projector, but it uses up the only input available, so you’ll have to unplug it if you want to hook another source up to it like a PS5, Xbox, or laptop. Fortunately, Android TV works well and is very easy to set up if you already have a Google account. I stream Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime, YouTube, HBOMax, ESPN+, Starz, Showtime Anytime, and Epix with great results and 1080P picture quality. The menu system can be snappy at times, but also starts to lag a bit if you’re changing between a lot of apps rapidly. It also comes with Kodi installed, which is fantastic if you know how to use it. However, the 4.3GB of internal storage fills up quickly and there doesn’t seem to be any way to hook up an external hard drive or to expand the internal one. At least wirelessly streaming media from my Android phone to the projector is an easy affair with Chromecast. It even comes with an Android TV remote that has a built-in mic for Google voice searching programs. I’ve only used it a few times, but it works well and is way more convenient than typing on a digital keyboard.
Overall, this is an excellent portable smart projector that’s good for general use, but the portability and brightness make it great for business and trade show presentations. It’s bright enough to use in ambient light and casts a sharp picture with good color rendition. I do wish there were more than 1 input, but the Android TV streaming works great and at least the price point won’t break the bank. Highly recommended.
PROS
- 3,000 lumens
- Relatively light and compact
- 92” picture from 9’ distance
- Excellent brightness, good in ambient light
- Easy to fit in a suitcase or backpack
- Built-in speakers are somewhat usable
- Rated up to 300” picture
- Chromecast remote control with Google voice command
- Works great with Android phones
- Sharp 1080P picture
- Good color
- Easy to setup and use
- Works well with bluetooth speakers and soundbar
- Can upload your own custom image/logo for the start-up screen
CONS
- Only 1 input (HDMI)
- No lens cover
- Menu system can freeze when switching between too many apps rapidly
- 4.3GB hard drive is surprisingly not enough
- No external hard drive input

Easy to use and clean up! Wings are amazing.

Compact and easy to use, this analog Bella Pro series air fryer makes air frying easy for even the most tech averse person. Having just 2 dials to control (time and temperature), all you need to do to get cooking is load your food in the basket, set the temperature, set the time, and come back when it’s done. There are no buttons or special programs, this is as basic as a simple toaster oven, but it cooks so much better. Crispy frozen calamari in 9 minutes, freshly diced potatoes and shallots were perfectly done in 18 minutes. I even cooked a frozen Jamaican beef patty that came out with a perfectly flaky crust in about 8 minutes. It does all the good things air fryers are known for, but best of all, it’s easy to clean. The basket and removable metal grate are non-stick metal and so far everything simply wipes off without any fuss. This makes it practical enough to use daily, and it barely takes up more space than a coffee machine. It’s fairly well built and should last a long time, though the matte black finish is prone to fingerprints. I do wish the power cord were a bit longer too, but high power appliances keep their cords short for a reason. Aside from being a fingerprint magnet and having a short cord, I can’t find many faults with this air fryer. This type of enclosed air fryer cooks a bit faster than the toaster oven type air fryers so, you’ll get crispy nuggets, fries, tots, and mozzarella sticks in record time. Unbreaded chicken wings come out AMAZING BTW. Perfect for football season! If you’re looking for an easy to use air fryer, it doesn’t get more simple than this Bella Pro series analog unit. Set the time, temp, give the basket a shake half way through, and wow your senses when it’s ready. Highly recommended!

Great board for the kids, love the light up wheels
on October 4, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
Solid “hoverboard” for the kids. It’s about the size of a regular size board, but has a max weight of 160lbs and a manageable max speed of 7mph. The black is a bit plain looking, but it’s ripe for sticker personalization and I love how the wheels light up. My nephew is still getting the hang of it, but it seems to steer, balance, and track well. My favorite part of the Hover-1 though is the UL rated sticker on the bottom. I had a few of these boards in the early days, but got rid of all of them because the batteries weren’t safe. Thankfully, these are, which is prominently advertised and for good reason. However, while the battery is safe now, I do wish it lasted longer. It’s rated for a 3 mile range, but it seems much less than that. It hasn’t left our carpeted “training area” yet though, so it could just be how we’re using it. The body is fairly well built and should be able to take some bumps. The tires are solid, but have a nice rubber grip tread, and the foot pads are rubber with good grip as well. Outside of wanting longer battery life, my nephew absolutely loves this board and is happy to join the cool kids in the neighborhood.

Modern, wireless, old school keyboard. I love it.
on September 1, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
This keyboard is like a modern, silent version of the old mechanical keyboards that I grew up with, and I love it. The keys are full size with silent mechanical GX brown switches and customizable RGB backlighting. Button response is quick and seemingly lag free using either the USB dongle or bluetooth connection. There isn’t much to set up for basic typing, but you’ll need to download Logitech’s G-Hub app to create macros, customize buttons, and of course, customize the lighting. Speaking of which, the app makes it fairly easy to create lighting effects, even to the point of being able to edit your own lighting animations, which I found really cool. On the upper side of the keyboard you’ll notice the volume dial, dedicated buttons for multimedia, input, “game” mode, and backlight dimmer. All of them light up, but I wish the input button had more clarity in terms of what input it’s currently set to. However, I do love being able to switch between the wireless USB dongle and bluetooth connection with the touch of a button. It makes using 1 keyboard for 2 different computers a practical affair and how I have it setup. Game mode is handy if you do a lot of keyboard gaming, because it allows you to turn off specific keys, so you don’t accidentally hit them while playing. You can customize it all in the app and create different profiles for each game.
Charging the internal battery happens through the USB-C port, which offers relatively quick charging and reportedly 25 hours of gaming usage before needing a recharge. It’s worth noting that in my everyday usage when I’m not gaming, the app says it’s good for about 100 hours on a 73% charge. That sounds optimistic, but in a week of regular usage, I’ve only charged it once and it still has a lot more battery life to go. The included wrist pad is shaped like clouds, helping to give the Aurora series a clean and dreamlike aesthetic. It feels like any generic keyboard wrist pad I’ve used, but I dig the cloud shape. It makes me think of Mario Bros. for some reason. Something that did surprise me about this keyboard is how thick and hefty it is. I wasn’t expecting the weight, but at least it grips to the desk well and stays planted when I use it. The body is all plastic, but it feels rigid and well made. If you’re looking for a modern, wireless version of the classic mechanical keyboard, you can stop your search here. This is an outstanding keyboard that’s a pleasure to type on, game with, and a very welcome addition to my PC setup.
PROS
- Full size mechanical keys
- Modern version of retro keyboards
- GX brown switches
- Long battery life
- Excellent fit and finish
- Easy to customize lighting effects (G Hub app)
- Easy to customize button macros (G Hub app)
- On-board memory to save custom button profiles.
- Easy setup
- USB-C charging port
- 25 hours of gaming battery life
CONS
- A little heavy
- Wish input button indicated what input it’s on

Gave us our sunroom back for the Summer.
on August 29, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
A good quality mobile air conditioner and dehumidifier that seems a bit overrated. About the size of a mini fridge, this Frigidaire mobile A/C kit comes with just about everything you need to get set up with cool air right away. The unit itself is a bit hefty, but is well built and has handles and wheels to make it easy to move. It comes with a window kit that should fit the vast majority of windows out there, but in my case, I have it setup in a sunroom with long, vertical windows, so I had to get a universal sliding door kit and fit the pieces together. Setting up the vent properly is critical, because it blows out a lot of hot air and it needs to go somewhere (ideally outside). Besides setting up the vent, the rest of the setup is a breeze; just plug the A/C unit in and you’re good to go. It’s rated to draw about 1,050 watts, so be sure to have it plugged into an outlet that’s not shared with any other high draw appliances (microwave, fridge, TV, heaters, etc..)
I like that it filters and ionizes the air while also cooling it. It also works as a dehumidifier, but I haven’t used that function because it requires regularly emptying the water reservoir, and I’d rather not have to maintain it often. In Cool mode though, I can set the target temperature and leave it running 24/7 without any daily maintenance. I have it setup in a 21’x13’ sunroom that’s mostly made up of single pane windows that allow the room to get real hot in the Summer. It’s practically a useless room in the middle of the day where it often reaches over 95 degrees, but adding this mobile A/C unit has given us the room back. It doesn’t get the room as low as the 77 I set it up for, but it made a dramatic difference in making the room comfortable. And this is the only fault I have with this kit. It’s listed to be suitable for a 550 square foot room, but it’s just barely keeping up in this 273 square foot sunroom. However, I’m sure it could do a better job in an interior room with better insulation. One feature I was excited to use, but couldn’t, is the app and Google voice control. Being able to turn it on and set the room temp remotely in advance is like getting a remote start installed in my car. No more walking into a sweltering sunroom. However, I currently have it located in an area with low WiFi signal, so I’ll have to get an extender to try this feature out. At least it comes with a remote.
Overall, this is an excellent mobile A/C unit that comes with everything you need to get set up with cool air right away. The supplied window kit should work for most windows, unless you’re using a sliding glass door. The 550sq ft rating seems a bit optimistic to me, but it’s strong enough to give us our sunroom back in the daytime, which is what I was hoping for. Highly recommended.
PROS
- Relatively easy setup
- Includes window kit
- Filters and ionizes air
- Google and Alexa voice compatible
- Also works as a dehumidifier
- Automatic temp control
- Comes with everything needed to get going.
CONS
- Window kit not long enough for sliding door
- 550sq coverage seems overrated
- Wish WiFi antenna had longer range

Like having a personal artist always at work.

What a cool meditation device and conversation starter. When I first heard about this Drift meditation table, I didn’t know what to think, but a metal ball drawing intricate images in the sand is pretty awesome in and of itself. The Drift Meditation Sand Table isn’t really a table, but more like a large bowl that should sit on top of a table. I was initially worried about my cat getting in and making a mess of things, but there’s a glass cover that fits over the bowl to encapsulate the sand and ball. It just rests on top though, so it’s still a good idea to keep it out of reach from little kids. Setup is a breeze, as all you have to do is pour the pouch of sand directly on the felt, drop the metal ball in, place the glass cover on top and plug it in. There’s a power button on the bowl itself, but you’ll need to download the app to change the images it creates, the lighting effects, and the ball speed. You can even create image playlists, which is pretty neat. I had trouble uploading some of the app images to the “table” as they wouldn’t upload, and I’m still not sure why. There’s already a bunch of images uploaded to the table, so I haven’t tried calling customer support about it yet, but it’s worth noting. I was kind of hoping that it would play meditation sounds like ocean waves or a calm rain, but it doesn’t and to be fair, it doesn’t advertise that it does either. It’s just a really cool bowl that magically brings an artistic steel ball to life to draw images in the sand. I’m honestly not sure if it helps me meditate at all, but it does bring me to a state of wonderment and calm when I relax and watch it do its thing. I keep the playlist running, so it’s kind of like checking in on a creative roommate to see what they’re making now. Overall, it’s a bit pricey and not a table at all, but it is really cool and a great room feature to show off to guests. If you’re looking to add something cool and unique to your place, or want to add some chill vibes to a room, definitely check out this table.

Deep bass. Excellent sound. Comfortable. Quiet ANC
on August 21, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
The Sony Inzone H9 is an excellent set of wireless ANC gaming headphones, and what I was hoping for from a company that makes some of the best ANC headphones today. It even seems to share the same swivel hinge from the lauded XM series, which helps create a comfortable fit and tight seal. Setup on a Windows 11 PC is almost a plug-n-play affair with the USB 2.4g wireless dongle, but you’ll have to go through the initial setup to get all of the features activated. Plug in the dongle and Windows will automatically create two speaker output profiles (game and chat). It defaults to the chat one, but I found that selecting the game profile sounded better. I have no idea what the difference is between the two, and I couldn’t find any information explaining it either. In fact, it barely comes with any instructions except for a little comic strip on how to connect it and to download the Sony Inzone hub app. Basic sound and ANC will still work without the app, but you’ll need it to use the EQ, set up spatial sound, and make any other type of settings adjustment, so definitely get it. Unfortunately, you’ll also have to create or merge a Sony account and download another app to your cellphone to set up Sony’s spatial sound effect. It then asks you to take pictures of your ears so it can detect and create a specific spatial sound profile based on the shape of your ears. It’s an odd request, but the app made it painless and the concept is pretty neat. I have no idea how it adjusts the sound to my ears, but it sounds great so it’s doing something right.
Sound performance is excellent with all mediums. You’ll need to adjust the EQ to get the best out of it, but the vocals sound natural, the bass has surprising low end extension, and the soundstage isn’t claustrophobic. I was impressed how it handled the hard driving bass lines in Kendrick Lamar’s “Mr. Morale” without getting sloppy. This carries over well to games and movies as gunshots and exhaust notes have a more guttural and lifelike presence. I don’t like that you can only create one custom EQ setting, but at least you can create several sound profiles with a different custom EQ for each one. The active noise canceling does an outstanding job of totally removing loud PC fan noise, but you’ll still hear some whispers if you’re in a loud room without anything playing through the headphones. It does a great job overall though, and the ANC performance is on par if not better than other high end headphones in this price range. The bluetooth connection is designed to pair with your phone so you can simultaneously game and talk or stream music from your phone at the same time. I like that the microphone has an auto-gain setting, which seemed to work well. Everyone I talked to said I sounded clear, so that’s a win for me.
Overall, this is a pricey, but excellent set of ANC gaming headphones. The sound and ANC performance is top notch with excellent bass extension and lifelike vocals. The cushions are comfortable enough to wear for hours, and with 32 hours of battery life on a single charge, you’ll likely need a recharge before it does. Setup is a little annoying and I’d like a case for something in this price range, but I still highly recommend the Sony Inzone H9. It’s not just a good set of gaming ANC headphones, but stands out as a high quality multimedia PC headset as well.
PROS
- Custom spatial sound
- Excellent sound quality
- Solid bass
- Effective noise canceling
- Comfortable for long hours
- 32 hour battery life
- Customizable EQ
- Flip down microphone
- Controls are straight forward
CONS
- Need mobile app to finish spatial sound setup
- Have to upload pictures of your ears to use spatial sound
- Can only save 1 custom EQ band per profile
- No spatial sound tuning / customization
- Lack of instructions

Outstanding Portable Gaming Laptop. Great cooling.
on August 14, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
This gaming laptop is outstanding. From the moment I unboxed it, I knew it was meant for business by how large the power supply is. Comparable to a portable car jump starter, it’s ginormous for an average laptop, so we see that Acer isn’t playing here. Fitted with the latest i7 Intel CPU, an RTX 3060 graphics card, 16GB RAM, a well designed cooling system, and a bright 15.6” non-glare 1080p g-sync screen running at 165hz, it can smoothly handle some of the most demanding games without a hitch. There’s a higher resolution screen that’s also available, but I prefer 1080p for faster/smoother gaming, plus I think this has a higher refresh rate. However, if you have a 4K monitor or TV, it’s an easy hook up with the HDMI 2.1 port, DisplayPort 1.4, or USB-C 3.2 port available in the rear. On the sides, you’ll find three USB-A 3.2 ports, a headphone port, and an ethernet port. Keep looking around the perimeter of the laptop and you’ll notice large fan vents on the bottom, sides, and rear, ensuring there’s enough airflow to keep things cool. Press the Turbo button and you’ll hear the full jet engine-like wrath of those fans, but thankfully I’ve never had to use it, and during regular game play I barely hear the fans at all. It’s nice to have just in case though…
From Elden Ring, to Forza Horizon 5, to CyberPunk 2077, and a ton of Hades, this laptop does not hiccup. Graphic settings were mostly maxed out or near max and even in long gaming sessions gameplay kept smooth. Something great about a gaming laptop like this is how easy it is to move around, and we had an absolutely amazing time setting this laptop up outside with a projector. Marathon gaming sessions and streaming movies outside on a beautiful night.. I can’t wait for the Fall. Sound is a bit humbling here as the speakers sound OK, but don’t really match up to the level of everything else. The speakers get reasonably loud, and sound much better if you turn on “enhance audio” in the Windows sound settings, but the overall acoustics and tone are just run of the mill. DTS spatial encoding is included, which helps things sound better, but is much more beneficial when connected to another set of speakers or headphones.
Design and build wise, it’s mostly a plastic affair, but well put together all around. The fit and finish is tight and it’s a relatively hefty package, especially with the power supply. I think of it more as a portable gaming rig than a portable laptop, but that’s mostly due to the weight. I wouldn’t want to carry this around work or campus all day, but you certainly could if you wanted to. The battery life isn’t very long either, but I’ve only tested it gaming, which is power hungry, so it’s not a fair evaluation. I generally don’t care for a lot of the lights on gaming PCs and accessories, but I like how it’s implemented here. Maybe it’s the black keys, but the keyboard is colorfully backlit and easily customizable in the PredatorSense app which adds a nice contrast to the layout. Typing on it felt like I was typing on my old 2010 MacBook Pro, which isn’t a bad thing.
Overall, this is an outstanding gaming rig that’s well built and gets the important things right. It’s a bit hefty for a laptop, but serious gaming rigs will be like that, and this one does not disappoint. If you’re looking for a quality portable gaming laptop, I highly recommend the Acer Predator Helios 300 series.
PROS
- Strong power supply
- Fast CPU and RAM
- Excellent cooling
- Colorful keyboard backlight
- Easy to program custom profiles
- NVIDIA RTX 3060 GPU
- Ray tracing
- Bright, non-glare screen
- 165hz refresh rate with G-SYNC
- Up to date ports
- DTS encoding license included
- Fast WiFi
CONS
- “Small” 512GB hard drive
- Metal cover is a fingerprint magnet
- Speakers are just ok
- Average webcam

Excellent General All-In-One Touchscreen PC.
on August 7, 2022
Posted by: BIGASN
This 27” Dell Inspiron touch screen all-in-one computer is an excellent general and family use computer, which should do well for photo, layouts, and moderate gaming. It comes with everything to get started right away, including a built-in hideaway camera, and wireless keyboard with mouse. The keyboard is plastic and pretty mainstream, but types confidently and quietly. The mouse tracks well and can be adjusted all the way up to 1600DPI in the settings if needed. The monitor portion offers 1080p resolution @60hz, which isn’t ideal for gaming, but is sharp, bright and colorful, nonetheless. Being limited to 60hz is part of why I don’t find it an ideal gaming rig, but it really depends on what kind of gamer you are. For most people and moderate gaming, it should be fine. I had no issues running Xbox Game Pass and Steam. Hades was smooth and Elden Ring was playable, but it really depends on what you’re playing. For touchscreen gaming, you’re likely fine, considering that I think most touch screens run at 60hz anyway. Thankfully, the touchscreen is responsive and does a great job of picking up my actions without having to stab my finger at the screen. Outside of gaming, this is an excellent general use PC that effortlessly handles video and music streaming, photo editing, video conferencing, and of course, general office work and word processing. Soundwise, it plays reasonably loud and clear, and responds very well to Dolby Atmos spatial processing, but it’s also flat in presence. It’s severely lacking in the low-end and reminds me of the sound quality you generally find in flat screen TVs. It’s fine for dialogue, but I’d add some speakers if I used it more as a media machine.
Fit and finish wise, it’s super slim and elegantly designed with a lightweight mix of metal and plastic. It’s put together well and fits great on a slim surface, which is how I have it setup on a desk that’s only 12” deep. I love that it includes both an HDMI output AND input, in the event that you also want to use it as a 2nd monitor. I also appreciate the built-in SD card reader and 5 USB ports (4 USB-A + 1 USB-C) which makes expansion easy. I didn’t use the built-in camera much, but tried it out on a Zoom and Skype call and was impressed with how clear the image was in a low light environment.
Overall, this 27” Dell Inspiron All-In-One is a solid general use and office computer. The screen is sharp and bright, the touch screen is responsive, and it’s powerful enough for image editing, layouts, and moderate gaming. If you’re looking for a solid all-in-one computer that looks great, doesn’t take up much space, and won’t blow your budget, I highly suggest you give this one a look.

The Razer Barracuda Pro is more like a premium general headset vs a traditional gaming headset. There are no bright lights, no boom mic, and no funky color schemes. You can almost say it’s a gaming headset for “adults”, but it feels like the Razer design team was shooting for even more. The Barracuda Pro is an Active Noise Canceling headset, which is somewhat rare for gaming, but definitely has a place. It does a fair job of softening the sound of people talking around me, however it doesn’t completely eliminate them. To be fair, I’ve tested a lot of high end ANC headsets and none of them cut out 100% of the noise, but Barracuda Pro still lets more sound leak through than others. Not a big deal in my book, because I’ve never felt the need for noise reduction in my gaming headsets, however it does do a fantastic job of cutting out fan noise. I can actually turn on the Turbo mode in my gaming rigs and I don’t hear the fans at all, which is a triumph, because they’re so loud I rarely use Turbo mode. But now I can!
Aside from ANC, the Barracuda pro features a Smartswitch (to quickly change between wireless dongle and bluetooth sources), THX achromatic amplifiers, noise canceling microphones, and is compatible with PC, Playstation, Nintendo Switch, and Android devices. It’s designed to connect to 2 devices at once (usb and bluetooth), with the bluetooth connection ideally suited for the phone. What’s nice about this is that I can also use the Barracuda Pro as a regular set of ANC headphones when I’m out and about, and then plug in the USB dongle to my PC for virtual surround gaming. It works fairly smoothly, however there were a couple times that it was connected to my phone and playing audio, but wouldn’t connect to the Android app for some reason.
Soundwise, it does a good job with games and movies, but I find it a bit flat for music. I can’t really put my finger on it, but it reminds me of how high end reference home theater speakers generally don’t make great music speakers. There’s a certain punch I like for music, and while the Barracuda Pro has decent low bass extension, there’s something in-between that’s missing. Maybe I need to play with the EQ more, or try a different spatial audio setting. For games and movies though, it plays loud and clean, while offering an excellent soundstage. I could clearly hear audio details that I was previously unaware of in games, and it actually helped me get a lot further in Hades than before.
In terms of fit and finish, the ear cushions are incredibly comfortable and soft. They surprisingly don’t make my ears warm and are legitimately comfortable to wear for hours of play. The materials are all plastic and leather, but it feels sturdy and tightly put together. I worry that the band is all plastic, but only time will tell how it’ll hold up. For now though, it’s been solid and I appreciate how the cans can pivot and swivel for the best fit.
Overall, the Razer Barracuda Pro is a solid ANC gaming headset that’s versatile enough for all-purpose use. The battery life is great, they can be comfortably worn for hours, and do an excellent job with games and movies. It responds very well to spatial audio effects in Windows (Atmos vs THX vs DTS), and is a good choice for someone who wants one ANC headset that can do it all.

HYPERBOOM rocks a supermassive sound and extreme bass that takes your party into the stratosphere. Its phenomenal dynamic range brings your tracks to life, rendering every sound level in gorgeous detail. The brainy adaptive EQ reads the room—or patio, or rooftop—and automatically customizes the speaker’s sound until it’s utterly perfect for the space. Two Bluetooth, one auxiliary and one optical inputs let you and your friends connect four devices and easily switch between them, so the music never has to stop! With a rechargeable up to 24 hour battery, HYPERBOOM goes all night—and anywhere—from your living room dance-off to the ragin’ roof party.

Does it provide power to whatever is plugged in via the auxiliary input? (e.g. old iPod plugged in with poor battery life)

The Hyperboom has a USB port that's specifically for powering other devices so you should be good!

Can the AW510k keyboard be purchased with Cherry MX Red SILENT switches?

It currently uses the Cherry MX red switches, which I believe by color code are the silent switches.
