High end bluetooth speaker with mic / guitar input
on April 23, 2024
Posted by: BIGASN
The Sony ULT Field 7 is a portable bluetooth party speaker that can go all day without a recharge. Sony claims up to a 30 hour battery life and I can definitely put it at over 20 hours so far. It really depends on how you use it, but the long battery life is just a part of what makes the ULT Field 7 special. Aside from being an excellent sounding speaker, the ¼” input jack allows you to plug in a guitar or microphone with independent level control. It’s geared for karaoke, but being able to add a microphone makes it a handy PA speaker in a pinch. The IP67 rating means I shouldn’t have to worry about salt water at the beach and while I wouldn’t take it underwater, it should be fine taking splashes. I’ll get deeper further in, but if you want the short and sweet of it, the Sony ULT Field 7 is an outstanding bluetooth speaker that’s great for parties, outdoor movie nights, picnics, event booths, protests, you name it. It’s well thought out and offers the polish that you’d expect from a premium Sony product. It’s way more than a party speaker and if it’s in your budget, I highly suggest it.
SOUND
For the most part, the ULT Field 7 plays loud and clean with a lively midbass punch. Vocals are smooth and relaxed without any sense of shrillness. Bass response is going to depend on the room and EQ settings, but it definitely punches in a 15’x20’ room. There’s a good balance overall, but turn it way up and the bass starts to get drowned out by the vocals and the sound loses structure and focus. Mind you this was at an obnoxiously loud testing level (and I like loud), but for most actual use cases it’ll be more than fine. However, you can also wirelessly pair it up with up to 100 other Party Connect speakers if you need more power. In terms of tuning, there’s 2 preset bass modes (ULT 1 and 2) with ULT 1 being geared for deeper bass extension, while ULT 2 is for a more lively and punchy sound. I honestly found ULT 2 to be superior in all instances except for gaming, where sometimes the mids seemed a little over pronounced. And if neither of them suit you, the free Sony Music Center app will give you access to a customizable 7 channel EQ among a few other useful features. Sound quality ¼” jack sounds clean with an XLR mic, but I haven’t tried a guitar yet. The bluetooth connection is LDAC compatible for high resolution audio and more importantly, there’s no perceptible input lag, so there’s no lip sync issues when watching movies and playing games. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing Metro Boomin, Santana, ZZ Top, Ben E. King, Far Cry 6, watching F1, singing, or giving a speech, the Sony ULT Field 7 sounds good doing it all (depending on your singing). If you’re an old school Sony fan, this will not disappoint you.
DESIGN
Good looking with a simple, functional design. Offering IP67 level dust, water, and rust protection means a well sealed body and gasket panels for any ports. The ULT Field 7 definitely fits that bill and it has the proper fit and finish of a higher end Sony product. Details like a simple rubber edge that functions as sound absorbing feet, hand grips, and scratch protection are indicative of a well thought out product. At about 14 lbs it’s not heavy to lift, but enough that you don’t want it falling onto a hard surface. To prevent the tube from rolling, there’s a flat side to the edges which serve as footers. They also make great hand grips and it was entirely too comfortable to carry this on my shoulders and blast music like a boombox. The access panel is a wide blocky chunk of rubber which serves as a gasket to seal it from the elements with a recessed wide grip to make it easier to open. I’m a little concerned about how long the thin rubber hinge will hold up, but I can’t complain about something that hasn’t happened. Beneath the panel you’ll be greeted by hard button controls for light, battery, microphone key, echo, guitar mode and a fader. Input wise there’s a ⅛” input jack, a 1.5A USB input/charger, and a ¼” input jack for a microphone or guitar. The latter is what sets this speaker apart from being just a nice and loud bluetooth speaker. It’s built for karaoke, but it’s also like a very portable entry level all-in-one speaker. It’s an easy music and 1 mic setup for trade shows, presentations, marches, protests, meetings and parties. The 30 hour battery life means you can stay portable all day and don’t need to station it near any outlets. If you need a quick top up, 10 minutes of charge time is supposed to provide 3 hours of run time, which is a pretty swell trade off. The only area where this speaker falls a bit flat are the lights. I notice them when I’m looking at the speaker, but they don’t really color a room or anything. It’s cool that you can adjust the pattern, but they’re more like a side note to me.

Outstanding AIO printer for a busy small office.
on February 20, 2024
Posted by: BIGASN
It’s been a while since I’ve had an HP printer and I’m pretty happy that I gave this one a try. It’s not perfect, but the faults are minor and the Office Jet Pro 9125e should make an excellent choice for a busy small or home office. What really shines in that role is the huge paper tray (it fits a whole 250 page reem), fast scanning, quick scan to cloud/email, ability to print from just about anywhere you have internet, and even the HP+ instant ink service.
What I especially love is that I finally have a wireless printer that truly prints remotely from all sources. Be it Windows 11 PC, Apple laptop, iPhone, or Android phone, I had no problem setting up the HP Smart app and printing from anywhere I had an internet connection. Designer sends the flier design while I’m out on the road? No problem, I can print 200 copies from my phone and they’ll be ready when I’m back. Someone at the office need the blueprints for the kitchen renovation? No problem I got it printing now, go check the printer. It works well in the reverse scenario too. I can easily scan photos and documents directly to email, HP cloud, USB, or a network computer with fast and excellent results. Documents and blueprints come out sharp and colors are sufficient for photos. The only thing I had an issue with scanning are glossy color prints. I tried doing a few pages from a glossy design catalog and it was riddled with wavy lines. Matte images come out fine, so I’m guessing the gloss coating is causing a reflection issue.
In terms of setup, the HP Smart app essentially does it all, even the email and HP cloud settings. All I had to do was confirm the email on the printer the first time and it’s been pretty automatic ever since. The scans default at 200dpi and PDF format, but you’re able to switch it to JPG format and the resolution can be adjusted all the way up to 300dpi which is sharp enough for 99% of most use cases. I do wish I could save the scan settings after adjusting them, but they always reset back to the default between each job. It’s a bit annoying if you have a lot of JPG scans to do, but that’s rarely ever the case. I also have trouble getting the paper tray out and the printer itself creaks a bit when printing, but it’s not really noticeable unless the room is totally silent. However, the scanning is ultra quiet and quick, even at 300dpi which was impressive. In a few cases I kept waiting for it to scan, only to realize it had already finished the job minutes ago.
But what really sold me on this printer is how accurate the automatic double sided print alignment is. I printed out my insurance cards which came in a separate front and back PDF file with a cutout template. I tried printing it double sided with the flip on the long side and the cutout patterns lined up perfectly. And I didn’t even have to manually flip and feed the paper after printing one side! It might seem like a little detail, but it’s all of these little functional things that make me so satisfied with this printer. Sure it’s a little creaky, but it works how it’s promised and that’s a rarity nowadays. Great job HP!
PROS
- Large paper tray capacity (whole reem fits!)
- Fast and quiet scanning
- Double sided scanning
- Sharp scanning and copying of documents and non-glossy photos
- Automatic double sided print scanning
- Double sided printing lines up excellent
- Scanning documents and photos directly to email or cloud is fast
- Can print from anywhere as long as you have internet
- Works well with both Android and iPhones
- HP+ automatically ink convenient for busy lifestyles
- HP Smart app sets up email and cloud saving settings automatically
- Excellent printer for a small or home office
- Relatively quick printing
- Wide range Wi-Fi
- HP Wolf Pro included to keep cloud and email info secure
- 3 months free HP Instant Ink included
CONS
- Glossy photo scans have waves in image
- Creaky when printing
- Paper tray doesn’t come out easily
- Colors faded printing photos on regular paper
- Cannot save scan settings to JPG format, default is PDF

Stay protected from a power spike with the Rocketfish RF-HTS623P 6-Outlet/1-USB-C/1-USB 2,880 Joules Surge Protector. It absorbs power surges up to 2,880 joules, keeping your devices safely connected. A USB-C port and USB port efficiently charge your mobile devices with 32 total watts. This surge protector also combines the best of both worlds with four standard-spaced and two wide-spaced outlets to connect wall chargers and other devices. Finally, it includes 3-line protection and status LED lights, so you know your devices are being protected from surges that can enter all three lines.

Good surge protector with noise filtering
on November 19, 2023
Posted by: BIGASN
Well designed surge protector with EMI/RFI noise filtering. Rated at 2,880 joules so it should be more than enough for most basic A/V and home theater setups and BestBuy/Rocketfish stands by it with a $750,000 connected equipment limited warranty. Performance wise, there really isn’t much to talk about other than it seems to be distributing power well. There’s a 57db EMI/RFI noise filter which is supposed to help with potential data loss, however I always thought they were more about blocking unwanted noise in your audio or video feeds. I’m using this unit to protect a high fidelity stereo receiver and while noise wasn’t an issue before, it’s nice knowing unwanted electrical noise won’t affect the sound quality if something else is plugged into it. Some people forgo the noise protection because it generally lowers the overall joule rating, but with (1 watt = 1 joule) 2,880 joules, there’s more than enough overhead for a simple 2x100w amp. This also offers a proper 3 lines of surge protection (all 3 holes of the plug) with a 20 watt USB-C and 12 watt USB-A charging port. And maybe most important of all, it’s UL certified so you can have peace of mind that it’s not going to fail and burn your house down. There’s a whole lot of cheaper surge protectors online, but I refuse to buy any that are not UL certified. When it comes to surge protectors or any kind of power cabling, pay the extra money for something that’s been tested to be safe and won’t catch on fire.
Aside from solid performance features, it has a few notable design features that I appreciate. The flat angled plug feels like a must nowadays and only sticks out about ½” from the wall without severely bending the power cord or blocking the outlet below it. The body is made from lightweight plastic that feels sturdy, but also a little cheap. All of the outlets are nicely spaced apart, with 2 of them given extra real estate for large plugs. I like that there’s a backlight for each of the outlets, though I don’t know how often I’d actually use it. Power Filtering and Advanced Protection is also illuminated and I imagine they’re status indicators, because they don’t turn off. Overall, it’s a solid, safe, and well designed surge protector with EMI/RFI noise filtering. An excellent addition to any A/V setup and backed by a $750,000 warranty. Highly recommended for that new TV / receiver / soundbar that you’ve had your eye on.

Like having a Nest cam in your car, when it works.
on November 14, 2023
Posted by: BIGASN
The Nextbase iQ 2K smart dash cam is the start of a new era. Dash cams are immensely useful in providing video evidence for insurance claims or to just play back interesting moments from your drive. Some will even keep recording after the car has shut off which essentially turns it into a security camera while you’re parked. Which brings us to the Nextbase iQ series of smart dash cams. It’s full of innovative features like live video streaming, live GPS monitoring, proximity monitoring, cloud stored footage, “Witness Mode”, “Guardian Mode”, and a few others that bring them a big step forward into the automobile security and surveillance category.
The cloud save feature alone covers a huge weak spot in terms of dash cam security. My old dash cam system records for 12 hours after I park, which makes it a handy surveillance camera if something happens around my car. However, if someone were to break into my car and steal the dash cam itself, well then I’m up the creek without a paddle. The iQ solves that problem by automatically backing up footage in the cloud, so not only can you see the event of when your car was stolen, but presumably the footage after if it hasn’t been shut off. You can also live stream the footage from all of the cameras which is really neat, though there’s a solid 5 seconds of delay to contend with. The lag might not matter much in the practical day to day operations of the camera, but I can see it being annoying if I had to try to converse with someone in the car over the app. Which encapsulates a lot of what the experience with the iQ 2K is like right now.
There’s a lot of genuinely neat and useful smart features promised, but they either lack polish or are not available yet. For example, there’s a proximity mode that supposedly analyzes activity around your car and sends you notifications if something suspicious might be happening. However, I’ve tried to set it off personally and have never gotten a notification. Maybe I needed to shake the car, but it certainly didn’t respond to any kind of visual threats. If that’s what it’s looking for. I honestly don’t know how it’s supposed to work, but the concept is cool. I’ve also found that a bunch of times I could not get the camera to wake up from the app. You need to wake it up to get the current location and review recent footage, but it doesn’t always work when the car is parked and off. The “Witness mode” feature is one of the most compelling in that you give it a voice activated command and it’ll automatically dial up 2 designated emergency contacts and play a live feed of what’s happening for them to witness. I absolutely love this concept and it’s one of the most compelling features the iQ has. I also have not been able to get it to activate yet, but that might be a setup issue. I’d like to report on the Guardian mode and Roadwatch A.I. but they’re currently unavailable for now. There’s also supposed to be a way to do 2 way communications through the app to the dash cam speaker, but that feature is also unavailable for now. Keep in mind, this is the first gen of smart dash cams, so there’s going to be some bumps along the way and firmware updates can fix a lot of issues. The critical part is how quickly Nextbase gets everything working and ready. There’s a price to be paid for being an early adopter, both figuratively and financially.
This is not a cheap unit. I get that it’s new, it has a great camera, is well built, and comes with a nicely appointed installation kit, but it’s a hefty price tag for something that needs a monthly subscription for the smart features to work. Without either of the available 4G LTE subscription plans, the iQ is essentially just a basic dash cam and there’s much cheaper options if you’re going to do that. No, if you’re getting the iQ you’re subscribing and hopefully by then all of the bugs and planned features will be working smoothly. I can see a future where they subsidize these cameras with an annual plan (a la cellphones). And despite all of the early adopter flaws, I’m absolutely excited by this thing. Not just by what it is, but the example of how it’s reimagining what dash cams can do. Who needs a car alarm when you have actual high def footage with sound, GPS location, and time stamps?
If you don’t mind the price tag and the frustrations of being an early tech adopter, I think you’ll love what this camera will eventually do. The live feed, cloud storage, and GPS tracking are reasons enough to get it now, but you’ll have to be patient for the other features to start working.
PROS
- Relatively easy installation
- Install kit is nicely equipped (every add a fuse!)
- Excellent picture quality
- IR in-cabin camera for good night vision
- Excellent microphone pick up
- Well built
- Wide field of view
- Promising smart features

- Expensive hardware
- Subscription needed for smart features
- Relatively large camera system to mount

A very welcome addition to my home. I won’t get into the appeal and nostalgia of turntables, because if you’ve made it this far in your search, you probably already know what the deal is. Overall, they’re fairly simple devices but there’s a few features that are indicative of a quality record player and the Victrola Carbon Hi-Res has them covered. It starts with a solid and hefty base with adjustable rubber feet to stay level and reduce the chance of vibrations affecting playback. A dead silent motor spins a metal platter draped with a silicone Victrola pad. The carbon fiber tonearm keeps the Ortofon 2M Red moving magnet cartridge in place with delicate and perfectly weighted precision. The LP's track well and the 2M Red offers crisp highs and detailed vocals.
In terms of controls, there’s a lever to lift and lower the tonearm, a speed selection knob, a switch for phono or line output, auto off, and a single round power/bluetooth button on the front of the base. That’s right, bluetooth. This baby can wirelessly connect to your bluetooth speakers or headphones and even offers a high resolution AptX codec (yay sound quality). Bluetooth range is good and it didn’t miss a beat with headphones 25’ and 2 rooms away. What really caught me by surprise though was how good it sounds wirelessly.
There was a noticeable lack of bass when playing through the phono connection on my stereo receiver. I tried switching it to line and that didn’t help. I thought it might be an LP thing and that’s just how records sound, but connecting the Carbon Hi-Res to headphones changed all of that. The bass was strong and the sound was full. It was honestly a very nice surprise. I think the issue might be more about my stereo receiver and speakers, but I will note that I have to turn the volume up a lot higher compared to other devices.
If you’re in the market for a high quality turntable, definitely check out the Victrola Carbon Hi-Res. It has a solid base, carbon fiber tonearm, Ortofon 2M cartridge, and high resolution AptX bluetooth connection which really helps bring out the details.
PROS
- Sounds crisp with good detail
- Tracks well without skipping
- Carbon fiber tonearm
- Ortofon 2M Red moving magnet cartridge
- Heavy and solid base
- Completely silent motor
- Metal platter with silicone pad
- AptX bluetooth (high resolution)
- Bluetooth sounds remarkably good
- Bluetooth range seems good (25’ and 2 rooms away)
- Easy setup
- Comes with RCA phono cables
- Has both phono and line outputs
- Looks great
- Easy to use
CONS
- Output seems low (have to turn receiver volume higher than usual)
- Can’t tell if bluetooth connection is AptX or not

Good for gaming. Clear dialogue, but bass is flat.
on October 22, 2023
Posted by: BIGASN
The Sony InZone H5 is a good gaming headset, but not much more. It matches the PS5 design perfectly, as with the rest of the InZone line, and is compatible with both PC and PS5 via a wireless 2.4g USB dongle or wired USB-C connection. The wireless connection shows no sign of latency, so you can count on hearing those footsteps in time and the overall sound seems tuned for clarity and detail. Paired with Sony’s unique 360 spatial sound mode the H5 offers an open soundstage with good imaging. Running through busy parts of Dogtown in CyberPunk 2077, I could “feel” the dialogue move beside and behind me as I worked through the crowd. I feel like Sony’s 360 spatial sound is better for games, because it’s immersive in that I feel like I’m in the middle of the action, whereas spatial audio for movies surrounds you but still has a front center stage. In general, voices sound clear and there’s a good balance of detail, but the bass falls flat. There’s no “oomph” or presence in the low end, which is fine for competitive gaming, but leaves a lot to desire while watching movies or listening to music. It’s probably safer for my ears, but I need to feel my bass. The InZone Hub app offers an EQ for audio tuning, but it doesn’t seem to do much for the low end. It also allows you to turn on/off the 360 spatial sound and adjust the microphone settings. Speaking of which…
The fixed boom microphone features AI noise reduction and seems to sound clean. I haven’t spent much time listening to myself, but I haven’t heard any complaints from teammates either. I love that the mic automatically mutes when it flips up. If you’re known for marathon gaming sessions, you’re in luck with the 28 hour battery life and ability to use it while charging. Just a simple USB-C cable is all you need, but it’ll allegedly give you 3 hours of play time with just 10 minutes of charging if you must be wireless.
Overall, the InZone H5 is a good gaming headset but lackluster for music and movies. The 360 spatial sound is immersive and the H5 does a great job with voice clarity and detail, but the bass lacks “oomph”. However, the imaging is good and the noise reduction mic helps you communicate clearly with teammates. The H5 is a good choice if you do a lot of competitive gaming and tournaments. It’s comfortable to wear for long hours, holds a 28 hour charge, and provides a detailed and balanced sound experience.
PROS
- “Open” sound stage
- Clear details with good mids and highs
- Good imaging
- Comfortable for long hours
- Good noise canceling microphone
- 28 hour battery life
- Can charge while using
- Boom mic auto mute when up
- 360 spatial sounds good with games
- Lightweight
- PC/PS5 compatible
- Low latency wireless connection
CONS
- Bass lacks presence
- Hard to hear EQ adjustments
- Sounds flat for music and movies on PC
- 360 spatial sound seems better for games than movies
- Strong competition in price range

Amazing tool to track weight loss and heart health
on October 20, 2023
Posted by: BIGASN
The Withings Body Scan is a step towards those health devices you see in Star Trek. It looks like a really cool scale with an odd handlebar, but measuring weight is just where it begins. With every session the Body Scale measures weight, 3 segments of body fat % (arms, torso, legs), heart rate and rhythm, general stress levels through electrodermal activity, and vascular health. It’s a lot to offer in one device, but outside of having trouble getting a reading on my vascular age, all of the other features seem to be working well. The Withings app syncs with Google Fit and allows you to export your scan results, which is especially useful for those closely supervising their health. Where I truly applaud Withings though, is how effortless they make tracking vital health information. No notes, nothing to write down, just hold the handlebar, stand on the scale for a minute and you’re done. Weight, body fat, ECG, electrodermal activity, and vascular health readings are complete. You can even get the weather! All of the results are then automatically forwarded to your phone and progress charted in the app. The results are easy to look up and there’s no shortage of information about each measurement. In some ways it almost seems like it’s overloaded with tiles, but they’re all genuinely useful and the information is broken down well. You can choose to read through them and learn more or simply skip to the good stuff.
My favorite is the 3 segment body fat analysis. It gives you muscle vs fat % for your legs, torso, and arms on a body shaped chart. It’s even color coded to tell you where your results rank vs the general user base. This is outstanding information to have tracking your health, especially if you’re on a weight loss or fitness journey. As someone who’s gotten in a slump working out, seeing what workouts target my torso body fat the best is actually pretty motivating. And to make sure we don’t overdo it, the FDA approved ECG tracks your heart rate, rhythm and scans for signs of atrial fibrillation. It seems fairly accurate compared to other devices I use, but the key difference is how it tracks the trends in your measurements and easily exports them for your physicians. The electrodermal analysis is new to me, but from what I understand it measures an electrical response through the sweat in your feet to determine your average body stress levels. It’s a bit esoteric, but the tiles I’ve read so far are starting to make sense. The Body Scan also does a vascular health assessment, however that’s the one feature I can’t get to work properly. I’ve gotten it to work twice, but you need at least 5 for it to give you an analysis. Honestly though, the 3 segment body composition test and ECG are already huge pros to me. Especially with how easy it is to track trends and export your info.
The Withings Body Scan is promoted as a health check up at every weigh-in and it’s not far from it. To call it a scale would be like calling an iPhone a calculator. It quickly and easily tracks your health measurements with the ability to save up to 8 different user profiles. The whole whole family can use it and get their info sent straight to the privacy of their phones. There’s even an “eyes close” mode that displays motivational messages instead of numbers on the scale. I’ve had body fat analysis scales before, but the Body Scan is leaps and bounds on another level of tech and that’s a great thing. This will be especially useful in these heavy Winter months as some of us are still working off the Winter of ‘22. What a marvelous health tool to have at home. If the Body Scan is within your means, I highly recommend it.
PROS
- Measures body fat in 3 segments (legs, torso, arms)
- Analyzes weight, muscle/fat mass, heart rate/rhythm, sweat/stress activity, and vascular health
- Can save profiles for up to 8 people
- Measures electrodermal activity
- FDA approved ECG
- Amazing body analysis at home
- Scale syncs results to phone app automatically
- Integrates well with Google Fit
- App has genuinely useful tools and a lot of solid information
- Outstanding tool for tracking heart health, body composition, and body stress
- Athlete, pregnancy, baby, and private “eyes closed” mode
- Displays information in a useful way
- Can export health data to pdf to give to your doctor
- 1 year battery life and rechargeable
- Attractive design
- Well built
CONS
- A little trouble initially synching phone to scale, but seamless afterwards
- Hard to see L and R on the handle bar
- Having trouble getting vascular age reading
- App has a lot of tiles

Leak proof, keeps drinks hot, cold, and fizzy.

My new go to bottle. I spend a lot of time in and out of an office that requires all drinks to be in sealed spill-proof containers and this Ninja Thirsti travel bottle fits the bill. In fact, the more I use it the more I appreciate how well designed it is. Not just aesthetically, but there’s a lot of seemingly minor details that make a big impact on how convenient this travel bottle is to use. For instance, there’s a silicone leash that’s integrated into the top half of the body, no biggie, but the flat hinge for the leash makes a perfect anchor point to help twist the top half off without your hands slipping. Same with the 2 flat edges that run along the bottom main body which helps you maintain a good grip on the bottle without it twisting in your hands. Even the bottle cap itself is well thought out and possibly the best part about it. The square shape of the cap makes it easy to open, even one handed, and the cap leash has a detent that prevents it from hitting you in the face when you drink. Inside, the body has a smooth mirror polish which supposedly helps carbonated drinks stay fizzy longer. I can say that it definitely works, however I don’t know if it’s actually any better than any other sealed bottle. On that note, the sealing on this travel bottle is fantastic and has been 100% leak free in the week I’ve had it. It also does a great job of keeping drinks hot or cold. I wouldn’t say it’s the best I’ve had in that regard, but it isn’t a slouch either. I pack it with ice and water in the morning and the ice survives multiple refills of water and Sprite throughout the day until the evening. In terms of hot liquids, I’ll put hot tea in it at night and it’ll still be warm the next morning. Not hot, but warm enough to not need to heat it back up. The body also seems to stay at a neutral temperature which makes it easy to constantly hold. It doesn’t even feel warm when I put hot tea in it which is great, but a little jarring when you take a sip and forget that you put something hot in it. I can’t comment on the durability because I haven’t dropped it yet, but it’s made with stainless steel and BPA free plastic. It’s also dishwasher safe, though the instructions recommend hand washing if possible.
Overall, this is an outstanding travel drink bottle and I highly recommend it. It has a leak proof sealing system, is easy to open, the cap doesn’t hit your face, keeps drinks hot and cold for over 12 hours, fits in cup holders, and looks pretty spiffy. As a designer, I also love the functional attention to detail like the easy open cap and flat grips. This might be my new go to for Christmas presents this year. Great job Ninja!
PROS
- Thoughtfully designed
- Square cap easy to twist open
- Built-in silicone leash useful
- Leash hinge good anchor point to twist off top half
- Bottle cap hinge prevents it from hitting your face
- Flat edges on sides for easier grip
- Fits in regular cup holders
- Keeps drinks fizzy
- Leak proof
- Maintains hot and cold temps for hours
- Attractive design
- Machine washable
- 18oz size
CONS
- Sometimes cap doesn’t twist on properly
- Don’t know if it really keeps drinks fizzy longer than other sealed bottles

Excellent general use wireless mouse at a good value. It’s my first time using anything from JLab that’s not headphone related and I’m happy to report that their Epic full-size wireless mouse is a solid entry into the market. Whether it’s for gaming or general office use, this mouse can easily switch between 1200/1600/2000/2400 DPI at the touch of a button and you can easily adjust between a 125 hz and 250 hz polling refresh rate in the JLab Work app. The infrared tracks well and I was a bit surprised how noticeable adjusting between 125 and 250 hz could be. Usually I switch to the lower rate for longer battery life, but with an outstanding supposed 4 months of battery life, I’m fine riding high with the smoothness of 250. I haven’t had the mouse long enough to test if it’ll actually live up to the 4 month claim, but the battery has barely drained at all with a week of daily computing and gaming use. And when it does come time for a recharge, there’s a front USB-C port that should do a full recharge within a few hours. Not a bad exchange for months of battery life. There’s even a little LED display on the side that informs you of the battery life, DPI level, and connection type. Speaking of which, with 2 bluetooth connections and a USB dongle, you can easily connect and switch between 3 different devices at the same time. I recommend the USB dongle for gaming, but the bluetooth 5.1 connection has been very stable and responsive. Every now and then, there’s a little pause or delay in the bluetooth connection which might be a power saving measure, but it’s barely noticeable, especially when using it for daily web browsing and office tasks.
What helps make this mouse special though, is how easy it is to program the 6 customizable buttons. Through the JLab Work app you’re able to customize each of them to either prefixed settings or a customizable keyboard one. However, while the keyboard setting will allow you to combine Control/Shift/Alt/Win keys, it will only let you combine it with one “regular” key. So, while you can program a single button to be (Shift+Ctrl+R) it won’t allow you to do something like (Shift+Ctrl+R+Space). This limits it a bit as a gaming mouse, but it really depends on the game and how you game as well. The app allows you to save up to 3 different custom profiles, so at least it’s easy to switch between custom functions if needed.
The only complaints I have are more nitpicky preferences than quality or functional issues. The buttons are all the silent type, which is great for some stealth night gaming, but I honestly like to hear my clicks. The wheel also has steps to it, so I can’t just spin it freely to scroll up and down websites and menus quickly. Again, not big deals, just personal preference things.
Overall, the JLab Epic wireless mouse is a solid entry into the market and comes at a good value for all of the features it offers. If you need one full size mouse to essentially do it all, this is a good pick and with 4 months of battery life it’ll be there for you when you need it. Good work JLab!

Smooth ultra graphics. Runs cool and pretty.

This is an outstanding gaming PC. Sure there are faster CPUs and 40 series RTX cards now, but this hits an excellent balance between value and high performance gaming. Cyberpunk 2077 runs effortlessly at 3440x1440 HDR with ultra ray tracing on and is an absolute experience. Forza Horizon 5 is stunningly sharp and runs at 165 FPS set at extreme. But I’ve spent most of the time playing Starfield and while the game has some quirks, this Predator Orion 5000 barely seems to try. No matter what game I played and for how long, the fans never got louder than a whisper. Using the PredatorSense app you can easily customize the RGB lighting and monitor system performance and cooling. The “gaming” cooling profile runs all 4 of the fans at high speed which is notably loud and kind of sounds like an air purifier running at medium. However, with the “auto” cooling profile the fans turn slower and barely make a whisper. It’s seriously the quietest computer I’ve ever used and I’m beyond elated that the RGB fans aren’t just for looks. The tinted side panel offers a neat window into the guts of the computer, but the light show is where all of the action is. Everything from the included keyboard, mouse, and different zones of the CPU can have their lights customized through the PredatorSense app. It’s a fairly simple process and I spent a lot more time playing with it than I thought I would. The only downside of having a case this pretty is that it deserves to be seen. My old CPU was hidden away under a desk, so I had to change my whole setup to give this case the respect it deserves. It was worth it though.
The case is gorgeous, but a little on the large size. There are perforations on the front, rear, and top to help keep things cool, but I imagine keeping it spacious inside for good airflow helps as well. In terms of upgradability, both side panels come off easily with 2 screws for each side. The motherboard has 4 RAM slots (upgradable to 64 GB total), 2 of which are used. Upgrading seems simple, but it looks like you’ll need to temporarily remove the CPU fan to install RAM into the furthest slot. For storage, there’s 2 bays for 3.5” hard drives, 2 mounts for SSD drives, and a spare m.2 slot. Unfortunately, PCI-E expansion is limited with only one PCI-E x16 slot open. There’s actually also a PCI-E x1 slot available, but it’s so close to the GPU fan, I’m not sure if a card would clear it. In terms of ports, there’s 5 USB-A in the rear with another 3 on top and a USB-C port on each of those sides too.
If you’re looking for a new gaming PC, or even a high end media editing PC, you can’t go wrong with the Acer Predator Orion 5000. It’s physically gorgeous, extremely fast, easy to upgrade, and possibly the quietest computer on Earth. Starfield runs butter smooth and I’m stoked to see how it runs Forza 8 and Phantom Liberty. Great job Acer!

Can the AW510k keyboard be purchased with Cherry MX Red SILENT switches?

It currently uses the Cherry MX red switches, which I believe by color code are the silent switches.
