Insignia Soundbar, great value!
on November 27, 2015

First impressions:
The soundbar arrived in a large box, larger than I expected, but this is due to the subwoofer. The contents of the box was well protected and easy to unpack. The subwoofer measures 12"x7"x11" and the soundbar measures 35"x4"x3". Inside the box are: the soundbar, subwoofer, remote control, RCA type audio cables, detailed instructions, quick setup guide and a wall mount template. The included remote control feels cheap; I also find the volume button layout a bit strange, 2 large oval buttons placed far apart.
Setup:
I was able to get it setup quick and easily, plug the sound bar and subwoofer into an AC outlet, connect the cables from the "audio out" of your TV to the back of the soundbar and you're good to go. You will need to purchase a toslink cable if you want a digital connection. Note: if you are using an optical cable, be sure to set audio output on the TV to "PCM" otherwise the sound won't work. My TV was set to Dolby and no sound came out, I thought I received a defective unit...until I read the small red sticker on the back of the soundbar next to the optical input plug! If you plan on mounting it to the wall, the included template will make your life much easier. You will, however, need to purchase screws and wall anchors to mount it. If you're using this as a Bluetooth speaker, keep in mind if you have to disconnect it from one device before trying to connect it to a second device.
Features and sound:
My review will be comparing the Insignia to a soundbar I already own, the Yamaha YAS 152BL, which does not include a subwoofer. I first tested the Bluetooth audio by connecting it to my iPad. With music, I would say the sound quality of the Insignia is very good, I had classical and pop music. Despite its somewhat small size, the soundbar can fill a room with music. I then put on a movie, "The Fast and the Furious" and "Star Wars" to see how it handled the sound effects in the racing scenes. The Insignia has 3 sound modes, "Standard, theater and News". I put it in theater mode. Again, the Insignia did not disappoint. When I cranked up the volume a bit, I noticed the sound wasn't as clear as the Yamaha, the subwoofer though, added to the sound effects, the floor was shaking at times. I thought the Yamaha sounded more crisp, clear and richer. The Yamaha was at a slight disadvantage when it comes to the bass as it does not have a subwoofer. Certain scenes in the movie, explosions for example, is where the Insignia shined; the subwoofer made all the difference, the deep base made the scene more real, it literally shook the floor!
Bottom line:
If you're not an audiophile and looking for a reasonably priced soundbar to improve the built in TV speakers and stream music from your iPod, this device fits the bill. For both music and movies, the Insignia sound was very good, you won't be disappointed.

What's great about it: Easy setup, good sound quality, wireless subwoofer - no messy wires, inexpensive.
What's not so great: The remote feels cheap and a bit larger than necessary, some buttons spaced far apart. The volume control at times seems

Hp ink - a necessary evil

What's there to say, it's ink. We all know how it works, get printer at reasonable price, pay through the nose for ink. Surprisingly, my printer, HP8600, seems pretty efficient with the ink. I don't feel like I have to replace a cartridge all that frequently. The annoying thing is that it won't allow you to print if one cartridge is empty, even if I'm not using that color.
Best buy had the ink in the store, price matched Amazon and tossed me a few reward points. I guess we're all happy.

iPad air 2, for me, the perfect tablet!

I'm sure most of you already know what an iPad is, what it can or can't do. This is Appe's latest version, announced in Fall 14'. This new version is slightly different from the previous version mainly due to the following: Touch ID to log in like the phone, make purchase etc, slightly thinner, better camera (one facing away from you), better processor, and can take slo-mo video. If you already have an Air, I don't think its worth upgrading. Anything older than air, it's a decent upgrade. While it is thin, if you plan on putting any protective case in it, it'll take away from the thinness. The original air is pretty thin already and can be had for $100 less, maybe more. I have an iPhone 6, so I got used to the touch ID. Sometimes I find myself trying to log into my gen 1 iPad air with my finger, but it's not supported.
Anyway, a nice device overall, enjoy!

The kids love it!

Hopefully this clears up some confusion parents may have. So I purchased a download card from Best buy, all it is, is a card with a code. You take this card, scratch off to reveal your code. On the Mojang site, the maker of the game, you enter the number there to download the actual game. I could've also paid with a credit card at their website, but this allowed me to get a few best buy points and use up a gift card I had sitting around. Once you download the application, you have to setup a name and register it with an email address. Once you do this, you can always re-download later to a different PC or Mac without having to buy it again or enter in the code in the card. You can toss the card. If you had purchased the iPad version of this game, the world you've setup there won't be in your desktop version. The feature that the desktop version has is that it allows you to play on Minecraft servers with others, (friends and strangers). Whereas the iPad version, you can only play with others on the same wifi network.
This is about all I know about this game. It seems to spur creativity with my kids as the design and build things. To me, the game looks very pixelated, sort of like playing breakout from the 1980's!

Finally making the switching to a Mac!
on August 6, 2014

So after weeks of pondering not only whether to switch from Windows to a Mac, but whether to get a desktop or a laptop, I finally made the transition. I've been a Windows user from the get go, I've used windows 3.1 and every other version (seems like Microsoft gets every other version right: 98 - good, Win ME - bad, XP - good, Vista - bad, Won 7 - good, Win 8 - bad). I also use it at work, so moving away from Windows wasn't easy, especially since I'm very used to the Windows version of Excel. A big part of the reason was Windows 8, I love windows 7, but couldn't see upgrading to windows 8. I don't think I should have to re-learn how to use an operating system!
Enough about that...iMac: I wanted an iMac with an i7, but it wasn't available unless you order directly from the apple site, and since budget was a concern, I decided to purchase the i5 they had on sale at best buy. Combined with education promotions and rewards, Best Buy price is hard to beat. The operating system is fairly intuitive, once you get used to the way apple has it setup, it's easy to use. And being able to sync across your devices (iPhone, iPad etc) makes it very convenient. I can get my iMessages, update my calendar, save Pages or numbers documents and it's all synced across my devices. It's like the iPhone, everything just works together well. I purchased this for photography and was planning to use Aperture on it. Photos look stunning on the 27" display! It's not retina, but still looks amazing! The best part is what I print on my canon large format printer looks almost exactly as I see it on the screen! This wasn't the case on my Lenovo laptop, making it frustrating when editing photos. All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase. I would definitely recommend. Making the switch for any Windows user, yeah, you have to re-learn the keyboard shortcuts for the operating system and any Microsoft office programs, but it's worth it. If I can't figure something out how to do something, there's so much information online. Oh and 1 more thing, their phone support (90 days free I believe) is excellent! I have never experienced such excellent phone support from a tech company (10 years ago! Dell was great, but not this good). Hold times at apple support is less than 5 minutes, people are friendly and don't have any heavy accents!
Just buy it!

What's great about it: Design, function, simplicity of OS
What's not so great: Wish they sold it with an i7
