Simple artifact for exprience of gril and roating
on December 30, 2020
Posted by: MigDigital
from East Bay, CA
This is review of Everdure Fusion with Free-standing pedestal.
At first sight the grill is compact and functional for simple grill experience for which nicely put together.
The package consist of 25 pieces included for barbecue and pedestal.
Setting up is simple but assambling the pedestal takes bit of time but not complex at all. Before anything, having plugged to outlet, then placing the charcoal on the charcoal grid enough to cover the size of grid and then pushing the button start, takes about 7 min as does show in the instruction manual. Then additional 2-3 min while added charcoal gets all on fire ready to grill. As clarification, timing is based on the charcoal branded by Everdure Lump Charcoal.
For this review I have tried to roast Beef Rib Roast Bone in Standing RIB, 10.45lb. Placing he roasting rod and getting ready to the process was simple as well. It was just preparing the meet and then placing in the Rotiscope, a Everdure given name, where you place the rod, then just push the button for roasting. Two surprising aspects; first is the supported weight. Initially felt the rod would bend or that would not rotate due to the weight, but worked without issues in this aspect. Secondly, the roasting doesn’t rotate always to one direction. It change after certain minutes, and mix with half and full rotation for both side.
As roasting taking effect, due to the size I believe and as fat was dripping the meet get high exposure for fire then needed to pause then cut in parts and grill. This takes to grill experience but it is so simple as long as keep eye on the time in each side, meet is ready sooner than one would might have calculated.
Then cleaning, although in the manual makes to look simple, in my case was not simple. I was not able to completely clean the charcoal grill, charcoal chamber Heat shield as the fat and other elements from the grill process gets spread around. Cleaned the rod ad the fork but that as well was not simple to make look clean.
Now, what I did like:
1. Functional and practical. Functional is the grill can be separated from standing pedestal and has its own leg. Compartment to place roasting rod and fork. Practical is the designed starting fire and the space given between the grill and charcoal just exact enough to grill right moment of meet flavor if kept for 2-3 three min each side. This practical aspect lead to less time of preparation and calculation to how much more of charcoal and how much to make closer or far from grilling point, as result takes out that effort.
2. Its size is perfect for small group or family of 2-3 members hence one wouldn’t prepare more than needed producing unnecessary food waste.
3. The embedded roasting capability in the grill makes the product itself good proposition I think. One used to grilling and roasting with separate equipment would know need to prepare two separately and make work as one. With Fusion remove that extra preparation.
What I didn’t like:
1. Doesn’t have option to regulate the fire. It is only that much as allowed in the charcoal chamber. Can’t increase or decrease for much.
2. Although the grill can be folded or moved to open mode and add or remove more or less charcoal, the process is bit cumbersome and doesn’t open easily as would be a lid opener. Need to retain the other half side such doesn’t move while there are meet grilling. If there is no meet grilling this is not an issue.
3. Doesn’t have a cover as regular grill would have suche to close in an unexpected windy moment as is the area I live. But its need is relevant for moment that the meet gets fire due to the fat which expand bit beyond the grill space. But if there would be wind become dangerous situation.
4. If roasting can’t grill in the same time as it takes all the heat needed for one thing, unless they are small sizes. Probably this is not he main purpose though.
5. Cleaning it is not that straight forward, Fat and meet juice form as big thing as would regular black grills, but on the contrary of those Fusion feels more alike an appliance with high time of cleaning to retain its look.
For conclusion, it is simple and have both grill and roasting in one thing removing extra time and effort that takes regular ones. Really is desirable grill from my experience, but for the price tag it seems for more a specific niche of consumer that doesn’t mind that level of spending on appliance while exist much lower priced comparatives.
Then as caution I would say from the experience for this review, if roasting or grilling, do not place it next to dry trees or fences for event of unexpected wind and due to fat from the meet the fire gets bigger than grilling space.

Little one for immersive experience
on November 28, 2020
Posted by: MigDigital
from East Bay, CA
This is review of B&W 607 S2 Anniversary Edition.
Not being a deep knowledgeable of audio and related subjects, the pair of speakers does drag in the listener into immersive experience.
These compact but not that small, with all the technicality inside of each box, it generate crisp and sharp note that can be distinguished as go deeper or the music and movie.
Before going in details of the sound experience, need to touch bit on the process of setting up and considerations.
First the cable to use for felt not minor thing. Based on short research and for expectation of best outcome, have used “AudioQuest 5' Single Rocket 33 SBW –With Silver Bananas” which I had to purchase and took time for delivery in the midst of time of Pandemic we live.
Secondly, the speaker connector come with cap for each one for which house the banana connector the cap need to be removed. In this minor detail, B&W could have done better to make ease to remove it. Had bit of hard time removing 8 caps. And considering it is B&W, the Red/Black indicator could be on the fixed base of the plug rather the removal cap.
Third, the connectors for speaker wire are installed pointing to upward. On this, maybe it is preference of each user but I would preferred the pointing downward for better cable management.
Now to the sound experience based on Conventional Connection type suggested by B&W in its manual. I tested two different mode. First connected to Sonos Amp, second time connecting with A/V Surround Marantz SR6011.
Connected with Sonos Amp, listened to Vanessa Mae playing Romance n.2 in F for violin and orchestra op.50, streaming from home network storage. As comparing purpose, played simultaneously in 2 of paired Sonos 5 2nd version. In the beginning what was impressive of 607 S2 was that first kick of violin and rest of orchestra playing that were crips and sharp, identifiable string as the note move alone. This impression made me feel sound from Sonos 5 was less clear despite of its own strength of hardware that differentiate from bookshelf speaker.
Then tried whit HD Radio program from Sonos that played Gorillaz Momentary Bliss, Classic music Ciano c-moll, BuxWV 159, Totally opposed notes. The result was fantastic for my little experience. Sharp music and voice, each instrument separately but all together but sill crips sound that does differentiate with Sonos 5.
Second connection was with A/V Surround Marantz receiver. For this, for proper description, I only connected the bookshelf sparks to the receiver. And movies and videos are from Apple TV, Netflix and Youtube. Hence heavily based on internet connection based contents.
First tried with videos of surround sound testing from YouTube. Viewed Doby Digital Surround testing video, stereo testing video, among some others. Despite of being only stereo speakers, the surround sound perception was more than acceptable. Enough to say the rest of speakers wouldn’t be needed if one is not keen to very detailed sound effect. And this proven to be true as watch 6 Underground, the voice does feel to come from front, while in the car chasing and conversation happening with the car at almost the beginning, can feel the sound effect surrounding. Definitely is not the same with all the rest of speakers for 5.1, but what is able to produce with two speakers connected to the receiver in the small room definitely B&W 607 S2 has made presence and impressed.
In short, not being technical expert on how two way and everything within works, and aside of minor details that would have been better considering It is caliber of B&W, but the end experience does make one to be immersed wether listening pop, classic, watching movie or just Youtube.

Good one for events not requiring focus on details

This is a review of the Core Innovations - 150” LCD Home Theater Projector.
At high-level for the category of native resolution 800x480 and its price point the projector performs well. It is equipped with 5 input sources from 2 of HDMI to USB, PC connection, 2 Audio port of 3.5mm, and micro sd. It come a small remote control for most of functions.
Its weight is reasonably light, it is light enough to place on the compact tripod for traveling.
Connecting to notebook and straight forward as long has having the right cable with correct adaptor. Upon connection, immediately via source can identify the type and go straight tot the view of document or movie.
Now, its image and movie experience based on projection on the plain white wall, it is not perfect compared to better but more expensive comparable in the market. But for what is, it is acceptable quality I would say. Areas where can tell how well work is viewing in general and how it handle the light and tone as they don’t fall behind.
What doesn’t have is that crisp and sharp definition, but if it is used on a good screen would mitigate those shortfall.
However, what I noticed it doesn’t do well is on the borders details become blurry while toward to center is more clear.
For instance, at bottom line can tell how blurry become and it does on subtitle of the movie.
On adjusting size and clarity, it can be done from the lens that has rotating control, and next to it a way to tilt depending on the position and distance from the screen.
Then the sound is not that great from what is although seems to have two rear speakers. Unless being nearby of projector, the sound would fade or distorred. However, it has a basic but nice surrounding sound mode that can be observed being close by. It can feel sound from left and right and moving in between and in depth where is available in the movie. Also can be tell this from YouTube a demo of Dolby Surround video. But still viewer need to be nearby.
To summarize, it is affordable projector with full of connectivities for reasonable experience. After iteration of usage, I would think it is best for a office team meeting to share documents, or event to have image or video projected that doesn't require attention on the details. But I wouldn’t use for main home theater experience.
As side note, the package doesn’t come with battery for the remote control.

Huge image quality & still affordable projector

This is review of Epson VS260 XGA (1024 x 768) 3LCD Projector.
The projector has the basic combination of interfaces delivering delivering above average sharp image for small as is.
As side note, I am not technical expert on the subject, and had to do some research about technical’s terms. But the review will be mostly focused on the experience.
The small hardware accomplish its design prospect for mobility and office use but delivering sharp image that impress. I projected in the plain white wall without the screen, and as is it was good enough to get lost in image and movie. And this is with resolution of XGA (1024x800 pixels, 4:3 aspect ratio) based Epson 3LCD, 3-Chip Technology according to Epson.
First, it has three type of interfaces, computer/component video D-Sub 15 Pin, USB connector Type B, and HDMI.
I attempted to use with Google Pixel book that has USB C via adaptor for USB Type B, but I couldn’t make it work hence I need to check what missing. Then tried with HDMI via adaptor to use with iPad Pro and same Google Pixel book. This last one has worked seamlessly upon connecting.
Resizing image wasn’t that bad after first or second time. It support about 7 sizes from XGA to SXGA +, brightness color/white output up to 3,300 lumens. The most impressive from its specification is that support color reproduction up to 1.07 billion colors. Naturally I can’t verify that, but a video from YouTube about nature and cities, does make to feel the vivid and reality of them. The sharp and crisp differences between color was more than needed and superb for the size and type of projector defying its main purpose for office usage.
Regarding the hard controls are only few on the top simple and self explanatory. Its remote control is alike most TV remote control bunch of keys. Only noticeable is it has volume control which is relevant for movie or video purpose.
To list what liked:
- Compact and simple to control without getting lost in the intend of use;
- Image is good enough and more than I could understand;
What I feel it was bit short which are more details:
- As being nearby during use, can feel the noise and heat that does get to disturb in the experience;
- The remote control include source LAN which is not supported. Either they wanted to add or just same remote control for all of the same line of projector but feels unnecessary distraction;
- Doesn’t have output for audio. Understandably it is made for office use, but I think at this stage maturity of projectors in the market, could have added as base as are the three type of sources of interface. As is have to rely on the projector speaker during the conference call or movie;
- Doesn’t have a cover for the lens.
The projector is optimal for small office team work and remote working, and as bonus for multimedia and movie streaming experience.

Comprehensive Security service for DYI
on November 16, 2020
Posted by: MigDigital
from East Bay, CA
This is review of Blue by ADT 10 Pieces Starter Kit.
The kit consist of a hub, sensors for door and windows and a motion sensor ready to install immediately out of box. The process start with setting up first the hub and sync with the mobile App which allow to setup for home wifi, and the profile among other basic setup. This is quite straight forward, except not sure if it was error but there was hiccup during setting up wifi (high level description below).
Then start adding Devices that are the sensors and motion detector which was not that hard following the instruction. The sensor can be placed with sticker already comes with, or use the screw.
Using the hub feels practical as it can be moved around where is more handy spot compared to the traditional control panel on the wall. From the hub self can set different status and has the keypad for to enter the code. So at high-level it is not very different from other brand.
But what I find unique is the Blue by ADT monitoring options. From Self monitoring to paid service which includes cellular gateway layer of connection. This is better than relying only on home wifi connection as provide backup to internet (reference https://support.bluebyadt.com/s/article/Cellular-Gateway-V1).
Second benefit is the wide variety of integration of connectivity commonly used in the market. Although I run into issue to add z-wave based light switch, not sure if it has to do with existing network.
On the application side or the user portal, it is quite comprehensive and almost similar options available from ADT application but meant for self service fully as do DYI. This means it offer full span of options like Alert, Setting Rules, Secondary users, Key Contact fo call.
And not sure if it is site glitch, but somehow when want to lookup for z-wave information at Device>Security Devices> Hub Name>Advanced Settings>z-Wave Learn Mode/Reset Controller/General Exclusion/Inclusion, upon click nothing happen.
WiFi Setup problem experienced.
During setup of wifi, afterward setting password that shows message that it take some time, despite of waiting didn’t complete resulting in closing the screen and restart. Upon reopening shows wifi setup was complete.
To end, compared to many brand out there, and probably will depend on preference every home owner, and despite of some of difficulties in the process, I find Blue ADT better solution because of the variety connection allowed and optional plan to supplement to self service, and doesn’t have to manage storage plan or monitoring plan that quite differ from ADT pers e.

Flexibility in a appliance
on November 4, 2020
Posted by: MigDigital
from East Bay, CA
This is review of CHEFMAN - ToastAir 6-Slice Convention Toaster Oven + Air Fryer - Silver.
The combined options offered with this model fits to convenient and multiple purpose cooking small dishes to mid size in one appliance. Include pan, wire rack and basket.
It comes with seven preset cooking modes warm, broil, conv broil, bake, toast, cone bake, and air fry. Each can be combined with timer and temperature. Except for toast exclusively has its own timer.
Tried each of mode of cooking and it does it intend. Only remark on the Conv Broil and Broil, the preset doesn’t seem to consider the preheat time. Hence for cooking need to add additional as 5 min or so to the total cooking time based the experience.
The controls are traditional rotary knobs, with push button for light control and its indicator. Inside it feels neat and spacious and can be adjusted to tow levels at bottom and mid level.
To the core of cooking in each preset mode is very convenient except of broil and conv broil as mentioned above. For more used mode every day for Toasting for who like coffee with toasted bread every morning, just place inside and set the time in toast mode. For AirFryer cooked pork ribs and turned to be bit too dry than I like but I find it is matter of learning how to set the time and more/less sauce to find my own perfect point of flavor. Then boiled beef shish kebab and in the first attempt turned bit dry again, but in second batch with with less time and bit more of sauce able to find close to the taste I like.
Baking pizza with naan was straight forward similar to making a toast. The top gets crispy and brown and cheese well melted. Only thing, in my case of baking it, the bottom wasn’t that toasted, but probably is due to the metal foil used and needed different timer and mode.
It is quite convenient everything offered in one appliance without much to dislike. Only some minor details that seems to similar problem to any brand for same kind:
1. It is bit bulky although it might be only way to build it for 25 L capacity.
2. Pulling out when cooking is complete is bit inconvenient as grab the basket or tray may self scorch as grabbing the pan/rack/basket is inward. Hence always need to be cautious to pull out.
And what I like most apart to it cook what intend, the analog mode that I can see at once all the available options without like digital ones that need to drill down option after option to learn about all of them.
The for last, it takes bit of learning how to adjust the control for desired flavor as it is quite strong and relatively faster cooking mode. And it has vent on the rear side, if it is placed against wall it might leave mark in the wall when used heavily.
Except of minor details that depends on person to person, it is good to have on hand in busy day and still have home made meal.

Compact and Practical Printer for small work
on October 25, 2020
Posted by: MigDigital
from East Bay, CA
This is review of Epson WF-3820 after user being able to install ink cartridge and initialize successfully the printer for first time.
(If upon starting for first time and ink cartridge place holder doesn’t move such to insert them, then that is entirely different experience and review)
The printer is a compact and multifunctional for small office work that require Fax, Scanning, Copy, and Print.
Setting up each of connection type that is quite straight forward for default configuration to start immediately. However worth to notice different variation of configuration for each type of activity is allowed.
For instance, it work seamless with Epson Connected web services, which allow to setup to sent to specific Epson printer email address via which user can print or scan and secure by users allowed for the activity. Have setup such without need of being physically next to the printer can Scan or Print and works nicely.
Allow to setup printing in variety of modes to save ink like print with controls for each activity in Scan and Print. I have’t measured how much can be saved, and it might not be perfect but having such option at least help to last a bit longer the ink.
Then I think as most printer does today, it allow to setup to copy and save in network as would be in larger size of printer at big organization, with integration to Dropbox, Google Drive or personal network with some level of security control.
Another observation is the speed of print and scanning is noticeably fast compared to past version of WF in the context of printing and scanning simple page.
In the specification of printer doesn’t mention is Scan resolution is max 600 DPI.
Now, while trying to scan from iPad using app EpsonSartPanel, it doesn’t recognize automatically if paper is placed on Glass or ADF Feeder. Manually need to select the source.
Then where it comes bit short is Epson offers number of applications need to install to fully take advantage of the printer features like text recognition need an application, for maintenance and monitoring different one, network event monitor, and they are not all same across device platforms in same way. For instance from iConnect installed in iPad, cannot check for firmware update. As result found bit lost at the end but this has been the case from past and not unique to the printer under review.
Then for some might find negative that for the printer cannot replace with third party ink cartridges at least as of date of review.
In short, the printer offers what mostly used for larger organizations with packed features and ease of setting up for basic need but limited to small printing and scanning. Then it is flexible to use from multiple device platform compatible for remote task at enterprise level.

practical and simple machine for every day use
on October 21, 2020
Posted by: MigDigital
from East Bay, CA
This is review of “Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Rapid Brew System - Stainless Steel”.
For what is the machine and MSRP, it comes with basic but wish had more of functionality, and size wise compact compared to other brand.
It has function to control of strengh for strong or weak tase of coffee, it is programmable, carafe is wash dish safe, has filtration as well.
From taste stand, it is good for the kind of brewing system is. Tased with Starbuck medium roast, grinded at home. And this will depend on person and how do like the coffee, but as who drink strong and bold coffee, it felt bit light still desipite of having set Strong.
Then it has function start later, freshener timer which help to defer to when to start brewing and comes handy for those who doesn’t grind coffee bean right before brewing.
The downside of the machine is basically same that seems to exist in most of same kind, which is the water tank level viewer is rear left side. Hence as I place In a corner, need to pull out to check it. Wish it is at front.
Secondly, to pour the water need to be careful to spill out of the tank. But again, seems this is the design across most of brand in this category.
For last, even it says Stainless Steel, actually it refer to color and at front only.
But, at the end it is practical, does what meant and simple if don’t mind some cosmetic matters.

Nice looking but average coffee brewer.

The GE - Classic Drip 12-Cup Coffee Maker - Stainless Steel offers basic functions to prepare 12 cup of brewed coffee.
It looks nice and its carafe glass feels of high quality. For being made to brew 12 cup, compared to others looks compact and light to move around in the kitchen.
On the positive note, it comes with reusable filter, can see water level and all the controls in digital mode that simplify physical buttons in the look.
Now on the down side, first the taste of the coffee doesn’t feel very different form other brands for same kind. Although will depend on the person and type of coffee being brewed, having brewed Starbuck Medium Roast and grinder at home, from who doesn’t like dark flavor felt was like drinking water flavored with color of coffee. Second aspect is filling the water in the water tank, it is placed at the rear side in between the holder of the cover of the top (not sure if this is the expression). Upon opening the top cover where one would pour grinded coffee, in the same one can see where to pour water. This location is bit non practical as one has to be like pointing to the space such doesn’t spill out of the the coffee machine. Would have preferred either second cover to open such to have clean open space to pour water without having to think where to point, or removable tank. Third, the water indicator is on the rear right side. In my case that have spot to place against the wall which is facing the water indicator, I have to pull out to check and put back.
For what delivers and design and functionality is not different from what exist in the market, almost same, at the MSRP price I would not recommend.

Functional and Practical Airfryer for quick cook
on October 18, 2020

The air fryer from Bella for size 6.3 QT does look nice in the kitchen, relatively light, with touch screen that offer variety of options replacing physical buttons.
In size wise, compared with second brand of 4QT, and it is slightly bigger and based on actual cooking can cook for about 3 person that doesn’t appetite more than their portion.
Functionality via touch screen is replacing the actual buttons that exist in different models, and ease to learn as need to try couple of time to get used to. It took us three time to go over the options to find right one.
Third, as it advertise, it has 1700w of heat technology. And this seems to hold true in the first cook performed. And noticeable is its noise is quite low if compared to some other brand used in past, I found this positive as in between noises in the kitchen and kid and TV on, it help someway.
Then due to its design, not only specific to the model under review, usually I setup bit less of temperature in the air fryer compared to oven. Although different model it worked, this one didn’t. Seems need actual temperature same as the oven.
For instance, we backed Argentine style Empanada. In the oven was set at 400F for 20 min, second portion cooked in Bella Air Fryer at 370F which took 13 min. The result was that one cooked from Oven, was outside shell looked golden and baked well. Whereas the one from AirFryer, outside looked as just cooked flour if I can express correctly, meaning didn’t have crunch and golden bake of the shell. The inside did result all well cooked without any comment to add on that.
In short, it does what is intended to do at least from first hand experience, it is functional and practical with low level of noise.
Only downside found was the alarm that beep is quite unnoticeable hence cannot rely on it, and need to check upon it if the intended cooking require additional hand in the process.

Pixel Buds A-Series bring you rich, high-quality sound for a lot less than you’d expect. Their beamforming mics help make calls crystal clear.*** The flush-to-ear design is stylish, and the stabilizer arc keeps them in place so you can wear them even during the sweatiest workout.**

Does Google pixel buds pair with iPhones?

it can be paired and use well with its limitation to use voice control as it work only with Hey Google. (answer based on usage with iPhone12 Pro Max)

Sharing experience of using Google Home app on iPhone if device os matter. Upon playing music from Google Home, then playing streaming, it detect the images to be displayed but some how the sound doesn't. As worker around had to switch to second HDMI connection then switch back to HDMI connected to streaming device.
This feedback is based on connection configuration: Streaming Device 1 connected to HDMI 1, Outbput HDMI from Sound Bard connected to HDMI of TV, Connected to Google Home via WiFi.

I have a Sony tv with eARC hdmi. I use a Polk magnifi max that does not indicate it has eARC. Will the enhancements of eARC be available anyway or do we all have to buy new sound equipment to take advantage if the new technology.

I connected to TV with non eARC hdmi and worked ok.

It says that it is for the third gen and the 4th gen iPad, but the camera for the iPad Pro 4th gen (2020) is different as the third gen (2018) iPad so for which ipad is this case?

it works for 2020, haven't tried on 3rd generation
