The Beurer BR60 Insect Bite Healer uses natural heat to dissolve saliva, venom, and other irritants caused by insect bites. Direct heat application via a ceramic hot plate acceleratres the body's natural healing response to reduce itching and swelling, chemical-free. There is a 6 second application time for regular use, or a short 3 second treatment for sensitive skin. For best results, use immediately after insect bites. Suitable to soothe all types of insects bites like mosquito, spider, bee, chigger, flea, bed bug, wasp, ants, etc. For adults and kids ages 12+ with adult supervision.

It Works!
on January 25, 2022

The Beurer Insect Bite Healer is a tiny device with a powerful, quick-warming ceramic hot plate. The plate is placed on an insect bite to dissolve saliva or other irritants that may be under the skin. Initially I was skeptical this device would work but we were open to giving it a try. After trying it on both me and my spouse, I was surprised that not only does it get much hotter than anticipated but that it actually worked. The mosquito bites we tested it on stopped itching shortly after use and the bites didn’t become red or swollen as other bites we received the same day. I included a before and after photo, though the swelling before use was worse than the photo conveys. I wouldn’t recommend it for kids but most adults can tolerate the “sensitive” setting for 3 seconds and the small size makes it easy to have with you when traveling or spending time outdoors. Ideally prevention is the best route but this device is a great addition to your arsenal of tools.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Equiped with 2 cameras and split-screen displays the feed from both cameras to view 2 rooms or 2 babies side by side in real-time and the 5" HD screen shows details in unmatched clarity. 7 volume levels and noise indicator lights for real-time care, even with the screen off. Automatic night vision mode allows cameras to lower light levels so you can check on your baby throught the light. At the same time, the monitor could connect up to 4 cameras, and you could receive liive video footage from up to 4 cameras for full room coverage or to monitor 4 rooms.

Nice but missing features
on December 26, 2021

The VAVA split screen baby monitor is a nice basic monitor. Bundled with 2 cameras, the monitor has a large 5” screen capable of viewing both cameras simultaneously, individually, or even cycle between the two.
The cameras paired out of the box and are standalone, no app required! Daytime image quality is excellent, providing a clear colorful image. The monochromatic nighttime view is well lit thanks to IR lights on the cameras, unfortunately the image is less sharp and has motion blur. You can also zoom in twice (2x, 4x) and it is about as blurry as you would expect but at least you have the option. They also feature a speaker for two way audio, though I have never used that feature. The cameras are powered via included micro USB adapters, where as fortunately the monitor has a USB C port with a companion cable and adapter.
The monitor features a modern design and excellent battery life. The kickstand needs to be enlarged or mirrored as the placement makes it tend to tip over when trying to press a button without holding it in your hand. It makes for checking the monitor in the middle of the night tedious and requiring two hands to ensure it isn’t knocked over. Another noticeable shortcoming is the lack of sound or motion detection. Though the noise level is indicated via colored LEDs, the monitor does not turn on. You will need to rely on having the volume up sufficiently to hear any noises and manually turn the screen on to view. You can set the screen to always on, but other baby monitors are able to detect sound or even motion and turn the screen on automatically. My daughter is becoming a toddler so it is less of a concern as when she was an infant, but it would be nice if it had that capability.
The best part about this monitor is split view, allowing you to keep an eye on two kids at once or provide an alternate view into the crib as do we. You could also use the second camera in a playroom or even add up to two more cameras if your family requires! Overall, it is nice but could use a redesigned monitor and more features for the price point.

Buy More Combo?
on November 13, 2021
Posted by: PeboQuattro
from Beaumont, TX
The Mavic 3 is more than I expected and I don’t just mean its price. The value of the Fly More combo is even more subjective as DJI is putting what seems like an exorbitantly high price on the included bag of what is already a premium priced drone. I know I would have probably spent much less on buying a bag separately, however after using the Mavic the past few days I feel the Fly More bundle is actually a better buy over the base Mavic 3.
Upon opening the box you are welcomed to a nice grey canvas bag that is of unexpected quality. Nested inside the velvet interior is a muzzled Mavic 3, the RC231 remote, 2 spare batteries, a charging hub, 2 in 1 compact 65w/10w charger, 2 spare sets of props (8), and a set of neutral density filters. Concealed within the zippered flap are shoulder straps that clip on to the bag, converting it into a backpack. This provides ample room to store additional equipment like a small camera bag and a sub 13” laptop or tablet. In my case I can store my MacBook or iPad and my Mavic Mini case within this compartment unfolded. Within another compartment is an adjustable waist strap to further secure the bag during a hike. In addition to the premium textiles used, all hardware is metal adding to the overall craftsmanship.
After unpacking, charging, updating, registering, and admiring the bag, I moved on to the star of the show, the Mavic 3. Now, in its third iteration, the Mavic 3 is an impressive evolution of DJI’s flagship drone. Though still predominately plastic, the fit and finish are second to none. Visually, the Mavic 3 is striking with streamlined arms, larger props, and an aggressive stance. The body is raised higher off the ground to accommodate the new 20MP Hasselblad 4/3 sensor. The 24mm equivalent has adjustable aperture of f/2.8 - f/11, capable of capturing 5.1k/50, 4k/120, and FHD/200. The base model does not support ProRes but the H.264/H.265 formats look great using the standard HNCS profile, though 10-bit DLOG is available. Riding piggy-back to this fantastic sensor is a 1/2”, fixed f4.4, 162mm equivalent red headed step child. Though I was stoked to have the tele lens, the 28x hybrid zoom is more marketing than anything. Beyond 7x the image is soft and fuzzy, due to the fact it is applying a digital zoom to a fixed length lens. DJI even labels the use of this sensor as “Explore Mode”, removing manual controls but offering the option to “zoom”. You really only have 1x and 7x, everything in between is digital, switching sensors at the 7x mark. Using this mode is extra fluff and I would just prefer the option to program the function button as a toggle between the two sensors with full control instead of switching to “Explore Mode”. Image quality of the main sensor is excellent and the tele is useable but pales in comparison.
Unfortunately, the Mavic 3 shipped missing some of the great features DJI is known for such as a QuickShots or ActiveTrack. The new APAS 5.0 however is working fantastic for me. Thanks to the omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, I traversed a heavily wooded trail on our property with ease. You can adjust the action to either bypass or brake when confronting with obstacles, which is nice as the bypass was having trouble navigating the trail without wanting to climb vertically. After torturing it in the woods, I proceeded to the sky where it really shines. Having not flown the Mavic 2, I found the speed to be impressive. Getting into position in Sport mode is very satisfying, though I tend to fly in Normal or Cine for stability of the video and the added safety of APAS for me. The footage shot looked great, clearly outclassing my 2.7k Mini SE. The image quality on my phone (iPhone 13 pro) looked good, providing a better image compared to the Mini. The advanced RTH worked well, coming in at a lower approach and often closer to the home point. So far, I feel much more confident flying with the Mavic 3 mostly thanks to APAS 5.0. I am also really looking forward to using the automation features such as MasterShots coming early 2022, along with faster WiFi transfer speeds among the many other missing features.
Coming from a Mavic Mini SE, this was quite an upgrade. I am looking forward to taking the Mavic 3 with my family when traveling, due to its ease of use, portable design, and performance. Though at the price this drone may be aimed more at prosumers, I think the craftsmanship, features, and performance also makes this appealing to those who are looking to advance in this hobby, as well as newcomers.

One step forward, two steps back

The new Nest Cam (battery) is Google’s latest camera under the Nest branding but this camera is only Nest by name marking a clear departure from the Nest brand many are familiar with.
First let’s cover what makes this a nice choice when purchasing a WiFi based security camera. The camera now features a battery (non-removable) that provides 1-6 months of use heavily dependent on activity. At a pretty active door (pets and people), it used 25% after two weeks. Fortunately if you have an outlet within reach of the optional 10m outdoor cable, you are in luck as it can be powered like the previous Nest cams. When wired, you unlock additional features such as 24/7 recording provided you pay for the premium Nest Aware Plus service. Google does offer complimentary 3-hour event history for free, which is just enough to be practically useless. Obviously, they are nudging you to the reasonably priced Nest Aware that start at $6/month but you have to enroll in the Nest Aware Plus to fully unlock the camera and it’s 24/7 recording capability. Beyond the service lock in, Google has claimed to improve privacy by utilizing on device machine learning and biometric data. In addition, the face library is private and stored on device as well. One of the best features is the on-board memory allows the device to store up to 1 hour of events if the internet or WiFi is disrupted, providing additional insurance. The video quality is decent, comparable to the previous generation Nest Cameras (not IQ) but softer and less detail than the old IQ model which has an 8MP sensor as opposed to the 2MP sensor in the new Nest Camera (battery).
Here is where the wheels fall off. It’s 2021 and this is a 1080p camera (HDR, H.264) that you have to pay at a minimum $60/year to make useful, the non-replaceable battery lasts on average 2-3 months between charges and you have to pay extra for a an oddly oriented outdoor cable to fully unlock all it’s advertised capabilities. The new Nest camera only works with Google’s Home App which is not as intuitive as the Nest app (iPhone). For those with old Nest cameras, the Google Home app does not offer feature parity for the older cams, a deliberate move in the vein of forced obsolescence. Accessing your timeline for a mix of old and new cameras requires two applications and though it is possible this could be addressed, Google has a poor track record for supporting legacy hardware. Fortunately, event history is available for all generations. The mount is magnetic however, so that’s neat.
Overall it is a nice product but I feel they missed the mark on the video capabilities and current software integration. If you are buying this for your first or exclusively using these newer Nest Cameras you can safely ignore the software complaints and focus on if 1080p is good enough for your applications, which for most it is.

Good choice for home office

The Epson EcoTank ET-3850 is a nice all in one printer that provides the basic functionality (copy, print, & scan) you are looking for in a printer, but at a better value compared to most cartridge based printers. The main draw to Epson’s EcoTank line of printers is the “cartridge free” feature that not only offers convenience but cost savings over the typical ink cartridge systems we are all too familiar with. Instead of wasteful, expensive cartridges that only last a few hundred pages; Epson designed a unique tank system that is easy to fill and reasonably priced. Each bottle offers up to 7,500 pages for black and 6,000 pages for color far exceeding typical ink cartridges, which means less waste too! The included set of ink bottles completely fill the printer, which is nice knowing I won’t be hunting down refills anytime soon.
The design is basic but clean in an all white finish. The ET-3850 ink wells are in the front, providing a nice visible ink level indicator. Navigation is performed with an adjustable control panel and is easy to use. Basic printing and copying works as expected, this model includes a 30-sheet ADF which aids dramatically in scanning or copying multiple pages. The cassette holds half a ream, which is plenty for a home office printer. At about 15ppm black and 8ppm color, it could be faster but for most people who just print periodically this won’t be an issue.

The printer does what I need flawlessly, being able to periodically AirPrint a photo or document without worrying about the printer having enough ink is a winner. If you are looking for a no frills printer that won’t burn your wallet with ink refills, the Epson ET-3850 is a great value and highly recommended.

The Levoit PlasmaPro Smart True HEPA Air Purifier completely refreshes air 5x per hour in a 403 sq ft space or 2x per hour in a 1,007 sq ft space, running with noise levels as low as 24dB. With 3-stage H13 True HEPA filtration, the air purifier filters 99.97% of airborne particles 0.3 microns in size and neutralizes household odors such as pet and kitchen smells. HEPASmart Technology filters 99.99% of bacteria and mold, as well as 99.9% of viruses, keeping your home fresh and healthy. PlasmaPro Technology releases negative and positive ions into the air, which then bind with contaminants and break them down into harmless matter. The laser dust sensor scans surrounding air for airborne particles and displays the amount detected on the PM2.5 display. With smart control, you can control air purifier settings no matter where you are, connect to third-party voice assistants, and receive real-time notifications about air quality and filter life.

Breathe Easy

from Beaumont, TX
This cylindrical purifier features a clean design, great performance, and smart features to monitor and improve your air quality in your home.
With the capability of refreshing the air in a 400 sqft space in as little as 12 minutes, the Levoit 400S PlasmaPro offers impressive performance in a mid sized unit that is 20 inches tall and roughly 10.5 inches in diameter. The HEPA filtration mechanically filters down to 0.3 microns while Levoit’s HEPASmart technology claims to capture 99.9% of bacteria and viruses. In addition, this model features their PlasmaPro technology which deodorizes the air with negative and positive ions. The PlasmaPro also features an internal laser based sensor that monitors and adjusts the fan speed based on contaminants in real-time. We actually over cooked some bacon and the device was quick to detect and clean the air. Automatically ramping up the fan to high, the smell was gone within a few minutes and the fan had adjusted back down to a tolerable level.
As with any “smart” device, there is an app that can be used in conjunction with the device that provides current and historical air quality data as well as controlling the device from your phone. Though I like that I can also lock the controls from the app (parents of toddlers rejoice!), the app itself (VeSync) is distracting with loads of unrelated content such as a store and recipes section. I would have preferred a dedicated app instead of this “smart home” approach. With that said, the device would be rated higher if they offer a more focused app in the future, fortunately the app is optional and the device works great with out it. If you have the space for it, the Levoit PlasmaPro performs well and is hard to beat for the price.

Almost Perfect

The PI7s are premium In-Ear Headphones for audiophiles with features such as audio retransmission via the case and 24-bit aptX technology for high resolution audio.
Immediately apparent coming from my daily AirPods use is the deep lows, rich mids, and clear highs. Though the low and mid range are full and prominent, the headphones still achieve great clarity and provide fantastic range. Depending on your music choice, the low end may overpower the track slightly but I think most people would prefer the tuning Bowers & Wilkins performed over a flat EQ. The wireless charging case has a unique audio retransmission feature where you can use the including USB C to 3.5mm to pipe stereo analog audio over Bluetooth via aptX. This lets you take any device with 3.5mm out and make it instantly wirelessly stream low latency, high quality audio to the headphones!
Unfortunately the case is also my biggest gripe, feeling far less premium than the headphones themselves. The plastic case is larger than my AirPods case and feels cheap in comparison, despite offering more features. I also experienced a few connection issues since primarily using the PI7s that I had not noticed with my other headphones, but I am sure Bowers & Wilkins will iron out any issues with a firmware update. The earbuds themselves feature touch controls, with access to music, call control, voice assistant, and noise cancelation at your fingertips. I feel the noise cancellation isn’t on par with my daily drivers, but it works well enough and even offers a passthrough mode that can be adjusted to your liking.
Even with those minor shortcomings, the PI7 is a fantastic set of In-Ear headphones for those looking for a better audio experience.

Small but mighty

This compact Filtrete purifier offers convenient smart features to monitor your air quality with or without connecting it to your home network. The design is slightly utilitarian but clean and modern. The top of the unit features touch controls and displays useful data such as real time air quality, fan speed, and filter life. Though it may missing UV or electrostatic features of other brands, the tried and true HEPA filter is large for the size of the unit and is easily accessible through the removable front panel. The filter life could be better as it is rated for 6 months at 12 hours a day usage and leaving it on 24/7 would presumably “require” replacement in 3 months. The fan itself is fairly quiet on speeds up to medium while perceivably moving a decent volume of air. Though setting the fan to high does have considerable noise, I actually find it more tolerable than another brand’s purifier of the same size. I tend to leave it on Auto as it does a remarkable job of detecting pollutants and particles in real time, adjusting the fan speed as needed. If you are interested in a purifier for a small to medium sized room, this one is well designed, quiet, and controllable from your phone if you so choose.

Close but no cigar

The OneBlade is a hybrid device seeming to offer the convenience of an electric with close shave of a razor without the irritation. The unique design allows for you to trim, shave or even shape your beard with one device. I found it performed well at trimming and shaping my beard. It was easy to create clean lines thanks to the low profile head and close action of the blades. While shaving is a bit of a mixed bag as it does a decent job of getting a close shave but not quite as smooth as a razor. I also experienced unpleasant snags on stubble periodically that wouldn't happen with a razor. The guard is also a little low for my taste as I currently have a fuller beard than this guard will allow. Overall, it works fairly well but I don't think this is the OneBlade for all.

Comfortable dirt magnets

The Comply Foam tips are a great alternative to the included ear tips for the AirPods Pro. They offer a comfortable yet firm fit that in many ways improve upon the OEM tips. The memory foam conforms to your ear canal providing an improved seal and better noise cancelation. Sometimes I had an issue with the AirPods falling out, the Comply tips however, stay in place no matter the activity. Another plus is they still fit in the charging case without issue. My one gripe is for some reason the tips always look dirty. I am not sure if it is because I use mine while doing yard work or the black color highlights this more than if they were white. Regardless, the foam seems to provide the perfect matrix for attracting debris. Overall, they are great if you are active or have trouble with the fitment of the stock tips.
