Great Extension Cable
on September 13, 2023
Posted by: PeboQuattro
This Rexing cable is a nice heavy-duty J1772 extension cable, expanding the reach of your J1772 charger or great for adding length to a public charger as well.
For me it is a perfect match to the Rexing J1772 charger which I currently use to charge my Tesla Model 3 at home. The thick 17ft extension cable is well made and quite durable, featuringIP66 waterproof rating for all weather use. One end features a male J1772 with rubber dust cover while the other end has a female J1772 with a spring loaded cover to keep the terminals clean. Though I only have pushed 16A through it so far, the cable is capable of up to 32A level 2 charging, making it quite versatile as it can be used for both level 1 and level 2 J1772 chargers. If you drive an EV, you know there are instances where you may arrive at a charging destination only to find a vehicle parked in front of the charger (ICEing). With this cable you can easily rectify the dilemma by extending the reach of the J1772 port another 20ft! Rexing also includes a nice canvas bag to store the extension cable in, making it a breeze to store this in your car.
For use at home or on the go, the Rexing J1772 extension cable is a great addition to your EV charging equipment.

Consolidate your cleaning routine!
on August 30, 2023
Posted by: PeboQuattro
The Floor One S6 Extreme Pro is the first Tineco product I have used and thanks to it’s impressive cleaning ability it won’t be the last! My home has a mix of both tile and wood laminate flooring, each with it’s own unique cleaning strategy. The tile needs a good amount of water to lift dirt and the wood laminate must be as dry as possible. Previously, I would have to use a combination of a vacuum, a wet mop pad, and a different brand floor cleaner in order to not saturate the laminate in the dining room while being able to adequately clean the tile. I have tried robotic mops, which I also utilize for the tile but I didn’t feel it was cleaning the floor thoroughly.
The S6 Extreme Pro was simple to setup and came with an extra filter and 2 spare microfiber rollers. The nap on the rollers seems a bit low for cleaning the grout lines of my tile but should work great on relatively smooth, level surfaces. The night before I had cleaned the floors with previous methods so I did not expect much the first time I used the S6. I immediately noticed the device felt lighter than my other floor cleaner and was easier to maneuver in part thanks to the self propelled mechanism of the brush roller. The S6 seems to easily glide, though always wanting to move forward. Initially, I was skeptical of how deceptively dry the floors looked while cleaning with the S6. I thought the device wasn’t outputting any water but I could see the waste tank filling up so I continued cleaning. After running the S6 on just the kitchen and living tile, I was surprised to see the tank full of dark, dirty water. The floors were left practically dry, perfect for laminate or wood floors. The ability to clean the dining room with the same device and not worrying about over saturating the floors is amazing.
The S6 has a loud voice assistant out of the box, surely helpful to some but it is easily permanently disabled with a button on the S6 without needing to install yet another app. Though if looking at your floor cleaner status through your phone is your thing, they have you covered there too. You can easily switch between Auto, Max, Ultra, and Suction modes on the fly, with a press of a button on the handle, but I found Auto to be the best balance of noise and cleaning. The Ultra mode is interesting in that it promises to transform tap water into a cleaning solution through some sort of on-board process. I could not locate any details so it may be ionizing the water, but I did not see a noticeable change in PH when testing the water in the tank. Regardless, the Ultra mode seemed to clean well with just water. Battery life is also a considerable improvement over my old floor cleaner, providing up to 35 minutes of runtime which is enough to clean all of the exposed hard floor surfaces in my home (<1000sqft). The self cleaning feature seems to do a great job of cleaning the roller of residual dirt as well as drying it, reducing the possibility of odors due to leaving the brush wet.
Though my tile is going to periodically require more intensive cleaning than the S6 can offer, I am confident now the floor are actually cleaner after using the Floor One S6 Extreme Pro. Being able to consolidate my floor cleaning to a single device not only saves time but it performs better than when I was using multiple floor cleaning products. A must have for practically any type of hard floors!

Great for traveling
on August 22, 2023
Posted by: PeboQuattro
I recently purchased a Model 3 SR and currently I am limited to 120v while charging at home. So naturally, I utilize level 3 charging at the local Supercharger occasionally but there are some locations in nearby cities where charging is actually free or cheaper then the $ 0.34/kw at the Supercharger. Though NACS is poised to expand in the future, currently these alternate level 3 EV chargers utilize CCS to provide up to 250kw charging. The Rexing CCS adapter is exactly what I was looking for, bridging the gap between charging standards and expanding the charging capabilities of my Tesla.
The adapter feels solid and worked flawlessly at the free charging offered at a local dealership. Though this location only supported 60kw, the adapter supports up to 250kw if the charging station can provide it. It also includes a case to keep the adapter in the car to expand your charging options while traveling.
Overall, the adapter worked perfectly and it is great to have expanded level 3 charging capabilities.

Great Entry Level Echo
on August 11, 2023
Posted by: PeboQuattro
The Echo Show 5 is now on its third iteration of Amazon’s smart home device, with incremental improvements to the smallest Echo with a display. The exterior looks cleaner and modern with the fabric covering the entire device, apart from the 5.5” touchscreen with rounded corners.
Out of the box, setup was quick and easy with the option to provision the device on your phone by scanning a QR code or setup on device if you prefer. Though Amazon pushes their sidewalk program to generously share your internet with strangers during setup, it is optional. Standard privacy features include a mute button as well as a physical camera shutter.
Although I do not have a 2nd generation device to compare with, Amazon claims the sound has been improved partially thanks to a slightly larger internal speaker. I found the sound to be clear and pronounced, with fairly decent sound when listening nearby. The petite device is also quite capable of higher volume than expected, making it easy to hear from across the room. Though you lose the depth of the sound when not in close proximity, this should not be a surprise considering the diminutive size. Fortunately, it’s small foot print affords versatility in placement and the design blends in to an extent. I found sound quality is best when the back of the speaker is close to a wall, allowing the audio to reflect off the surface. The 5.5” touch display is sharp and clear, though sometimes the interface can be a little laggy. the display is a also a fingerprint magnet, so probably best to interact with this device primarily through voice. The display is quite useful, from showing visual results when asking Alexa a question to displaying on-screen lyrics when playing music, it offers a nice visual interface to accompany the voice assistant. My family has been enjoying the “Price is Right” mini game, which would not be possible on an Echo without a display. The device can also be used to keep in touch with family members if you choose, allowing you to video call each other from compatible devices.
For the size and price, the Echo Show 5 is a nice entry level device so long as you know it’s purpose. It will not fill your home with rich audio nor will it be the best device to watch videos on due to the size, but it offers a small, discrete smart home device that is capable of a large variety of tasks. I think it is a great device for kids, gift to a family member, or add to your home where you do not need a larger, more capable speaker or display.

Fast Setup, Basic Features
on August 3, 2023
Posted by: PeboQuattro
The Velop Pro is a nice iteration of Linksys’ Velop line, offering improved meshing with their “cognitive mesh” technology that automatically determines channel and frequency to broadcast as well as mesh the nodes. The Tri-band nodes offer 2.4GHz, 5GHz, & 6GHz bands thanks to the new WiFi 6E radio. The 6GHz band not only future proofs your WiFi but also offers improved speed (if your devices support it) as well as reduced interference. Naturally this new band has reduced range but with this 3-pack you can envelope you home in not only this newer, faster frequency but each node also provides 2.4GHz and 5GHz for strong wireless coverage for all devices. The new droplet design does blend in well, though 7.5” tall pillars aren’t exactly invisible either.
Though instructions in box were sparse, installation was a breeze using the Linksys app on my phone. As with a previous Velop setup I have used, configuring Velop Pro 6E using the app is also simple. You can quickly turn on Guest access, prioritize devices, and adjust parental controls. I would have like to see more advanced security features such as a basic IDS/IPS but the nodes do support WPA3, providing more robust wireless security to thwart nearby eavesdroppers. You can also switch networking modes such as disabling NAT and enabling bridge mode to interface with an existing network. Naturally you lose device prioritization and parental controls when in bridge mode but it would be nice if Linksys could retain content filtering of devices that are connected wirelessly to the nodes.
After installing the Velop Pro, I regained signal in most of my home including a bedroom which notoriously had low signal strength. Previously devices in the room would struggle to hit 100Mbps on gigabit fiber internet but now they can hit 300Mbps+ running through a meshed child node. Where as I wish Linksys would offer more advanced security features, most do not want to manage an IDS or overly complex content filtering. Overall I found the Velop Pro 6E to be a nice iteration of their Velop product line. The Velop Pro 6E is a breeze to setup, improving on their mesh system with faster modern WiFi standards while retaining broad compatibility and great coverage.

Solid Choice
on June 1, 2023

It may not be the thinest or lightest but the HP Dragonfly Pro is a very nice mid-range laptop with a high-end feel. The aluminum and magnesium chassis is rigid and doesn’t flex when holding it by the palm rests. The Sparkling Black has subtle gold specks that are unique without being over the top. The smooth satin exterior looks refined but is also fairly resistant to fingerprints, thankfully. Though thicker than an ultrabook at .72 inches, it never felt bulky. The Dragonfly Pro feels solid at 3.42 lbs, but I wouldn’t consider it light.
The 14” display is very vibrant, features minimal bezels, and is topped with Gorilla glass for a smooth touch experience so long as fingerprints on your display don’t bother you. The rich display reproduces images and movies accurately thanks to it’s 100% sRGB color gamut. Though the IPS display is only 1920x1200, however I found it to be clear and sharp while offering 400 nits brightness. There is a bit of light bleed at the bottom edge, but it isn’t terrible. The audio on this device is top notch. Even though they are not going to replace a quality set of headphones, the quad speakers by Bang & Olufsen sound surprisingly good for a laptop.
The keyboard is fantastic, yet also disappointing. The disappointment is due to the dedicated myHP keys on the right side, which only one of those keys can be reprogrammed to open an application or website. I am not a fan of bloatware on computers, much less ones dedicated to all essentially launch a different aspect of the same myHP app. The prominent keys come with 1-year of 24/7 live support after which you will need to purchase a care pack to utilize. I did actually use the support/chat key to ask a question about an issue with the presence sensor, which HP’s support was helpful and informed me it would be fixed in a Windows update, which it was. I don’t see needing the dedicated keys myself but fortunately the rest of the keyboard is fantastic and makes up for HP’s odd design choice. The key travel and feel is excellent, while noise is minimal. I found typing to be very enjoyable and I easily adjusted to the slight offset due to the myHP column of keys. The keys are color matched to the body, apart from the grey myHP keys, and feature backlight with 3 settings; high, med, and off. I liked the led indicator that the electronic shutter on the camera was disabled which worked as expected.
Performance and battery life are both great on the Dragonfly Pro. I found the laptop always felt quick and handled a large number of Chrome tabs (this is life now?) while using local applications without hesitation. The Ryzen 7 7736U performs well and can handle light gaming with many PC games at full resolution and low settings. Though more demanding games may be better suited for a gaming PC, the Ryzen 7 7736 is quite capable. The AMD APU is also efficient with up to 15 hours of battery life with light usage. So far I am able to use the device a couple hours a day for a few days before I need to worry about plugging it in. The included 96 watt charger and long woven USB C cable have a premium look and feel while able to charge the internal 64 Wh battery to 50% in as little as 30 minutes.
The I/O is pretty good with 3 USB C ports with power delivery, 1 port on each side are Thunderbolt 2 which are capable of 40Gbps transfer rate for high speed peripherals. I know many would like to have seen a USB A port but I have transitioned mostly to USB C and have several type A dongles already so it doesn’t bother me. There is also decent wireless onboard with 2x2 WiFi 6E and bluetooth 5.2 via Qualcomm. Though I only currently have WiFi 6 at home, the wireless is fast and the included standard should be quite useable for the foreseeable future.
I think for the most part HP knocked it out of the park with this device. If you can look past the minor gripe about the macro keys, it is otherwise a great keyboard and overall the Dragonfly Pro is a solid choice.

A Capable Camera For Everyone
on May 27, 2023
Posted by: PeboQuattro
The new Canon EOS R50 is an incredibly capable camera with advanced features while being extremely approachable and easy to use. The R50 is perfect for capturing social media content for my wife’s floral design work, making it a breeze to capture quality video and images without being a professional photographer. Out of the box the camera provides an extremely user friendly interface, guiding you through the different modes the camera offers. Each change of mode prompts you with an overview of that shooting mode and can guide you further in composing your shot or scene to ensure great results. As a novice, my wife found the assistance made the camera more approachable and easy to understand without getting in the way. I found the explanation of shooting modes to be helpful and currently leave them enabled but dismissed the additional prompts once familiar with camera navigation.
The layout and controls of the camera are also very intuitive. The 3” variable position LCD screen is very responsive and bright. The OLED viewfinder is also very good, though we tend to rely on the LCD screen. The 24.2 Megapixel APS-C CMOS provides high image quality while offering a light and compact form factor. The included RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS lens also collapses down reducing the foot print of the camera. The relatively small size makes it very easy to pack with you on an outing without needing to take a large camera bag.
The R50 is not just great for portability it has impressive video features for its class, with 6K oversampled 4K video capture. The R50 provides clear and detailed video with a nice variety of preset shooting modes. The auto mode provides great 4K output with up to an hour of continuous video capture. The camera also offers manual mode as well as a variety of other modes such as HDR, image stabilization, and close-up demo. The close-up demo mode is perfect for product reviews, quickly shifting focus between the subject and object presented in frame. You can even connect the R50 to your Mac or PC for streaming video (UVC), allowing you to utilize it for live streaming or even as a web cam. I found the autofocus to be exceptional not just in the close-up demo mode but in other shooting modes as well. The Dual Pixel AF II autofocus system is extremely responsive and capable of tracking and detecting a variety of subjects such as people, animals, and vehicles automatically. The scene intelligent auto shooting mode has 3 great options to assisting you with creative assist, creative bracketing, and advanced. For those who prefer to be in control, the camera offers a variety of advanced modes such aperture priority, shutter priority, and full manual.
I found the R50 to be extremely portable and versatile camera, offering a great value by blending capability, portability and ease of use. I think this camera is perfect not just for content creators but anyone looking for a versatile, high performing portable camera.

Great Gas Alternative
on April 23, 2023
Posted by: PeboQuattro
The Greenworks Pro 80V 18” Chainsaw is a great alternative to a traditional gas chainsaw, providing ample power and performance with up to 240 cuts per charge.
The brushless motor provides the equivalent power of a 40cc gas engine without the hassle or fumes with the convenience of electric thanks to Greenworks’s 80V battery platform. Greenworks has a large offering of 80V outdoor power equipment, so it is nice knowing you are not limited to using the included 4ah battery with only the chainsaw. Greenworks provides a generous 4 year tool and battery warranty, which is impressive and reassuring with any electric device. Where as gas chainsaws usually require a fair bit of maintenance, the only maintenance to do on the Greenworks Pro 80V 18” is keep the automatic oiler topped off and the usual bar/chain maintenance. Not having the gas engine component not only simplifies maintenance but also reduces weight, with Greenworks coming in at 18lbs with the 4ah 80V battery. Though I wouldn’t say it is light, the chainsaw is well balanced.
The overall construction seems solid, with an automatic oiler, chain break, and metal bucking spikes as you would hope to see on an 18” chainsaw. Though predominantly plastic there are two metal studs holding the guide bar and it feels pretty solid, apart from the molding or screw hole in the handle which is right where you hold the chainsaw. With gloves on it is slightly noticeable but it does not prevent you from handling the chainsaw properly, just a minor annoyance. The included rapid charger is able to charge the large capacity 4ah 80V battery in just an hour. On a single charge I was able to do some light trimming around the house and then fell, limb, and a buck a small 50’ pine tree with one bar out of three left. Though the chain tension is straightforward to adjust using the including socket/screw driver tool on the side chain guard, it would have been nice if they could have implemented a tool-less design.
Overall the Greenworks Pro 80V 18" Chainsaw is the perfect option for anyone looking for a powerful, convenient, and low-maintenance chainsaw. With its impressive cutting performance, great battery life, rapid 1-hour charge, and a generous 4-year warranty, the Greenworks Pro 80V 18" Chainsaw is a great choice for an all around chainsaw.

Great value

The Insignia Silicone case was an easy choice for a replacement case for my wife’s aging Apple silicone case. With the Insignia coming in at less than half the cost of the Apple case, I wasn’t sure how the quality would compare. My wife also did not have high hopes for it considered the cost, considering she has relied on her original Apple silicone case since she upgraded to the 14 Pro.
It was advertised as nude so she thought it would be similar to her chalk pink apple case that was showing its age.
The color is definitely matte and neutral, but no where close to nude. It’s gray with a muted purple undertone. She didn’t dislike the color, but to her, it is different from nude. She felt it lacked the luxurious feel when compared to the apple case in your hand, but it’s comparable. It does seem to collect lint on the back of the case especially around the camera cut out, but it’s not excessive. The controls are easily accessible, the fit it is good, and I do like the case overall especially considering the price point. The case is a great value but you may want to look at the color options in person.

Sounds like a winner
on April 3, 2023

The Era 300 is the smallest standalone Sonos speaker to have an upward firing speaker, enabling Atmos and “Spatial” audio content. On its own, the Era 300 provides fantastic stereo audio and impressive spatial audio from a single speaker. While I roughly knew the dimensions before it arrived, the 10.25” W x 6.5” H x 7.25” D hour glass didn’t quite blend in as hoped.
After finding an acoustically engineered location determined by my wife who was not impressed with the size, I put the chonky fella in our dining room. After updating the Sonos app, I was able to easily set up and tune the speaker. It is nice that the Era can tune itself, which I thought provided a nice tune that was more convenient than the traditional TruePlay. Still, I opted to perform Trueplay so that I could wander around the room like a drunk wizard. I played various Apple Music spatial and stereo mixes to see how well it sounded compared to a smaller speaker like my HomePod and quickly realized they aren’t in the same category which is not that surprising considering the Era 300 is physically larger. Immediately I was impressed by the sound stage, which I found to be wide and balanced. I found the audio to be very clear and well defined even at lower volumes. If you were so inclined to push the drivers beyond a whisper you will find they are more than capable of filling the room with expansive, distortion free audio. The bass is rich and punchy but not over shadowing the mid-range. Though I found the audio mix usually to be good, it is great that Sonos provides an EQ to tune it to your liking. They even provide an adjustment for the height channel, which I initially found a little soft even for my dungeon like 8ft ceilings.
While listening to spatial tracks, you find familiar songs produced to take advantage of the format for better or worse. Listening to Pink Floyd’s Us and Them, the Era 300 enveloped the space with rich details that brought out the individual instruments bringing the feeling of being in a larger room with the band. Fleetwod Mac’s iconic Landslide sounded incredible, layering acoustic and electric guitars with the Nick’s soulful voice carrying throughout. Of course my 3-year old daughter found the speaker faithfully reproduced the soundtrack to Encanto just as she remembered it yesterday. If you happened a second Era 300, you can stereo pair them or add them to an existing Arc setup for the complete 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos experience.
Overall I am left impressed with what you get even considering the size, which it would take a stereo pair of any other brand smart speakers to compete. If you are looking for a single speaker setup or have the space for two, the quality and performance of the Era 300 is hard to beat.
