A Cute Tiny Printer!

Technology is pretty amazing. Here's a tiny printer (3 1/4" by 4 3/4") that you can pop in your pocket or purse. It can print any pic in your Smartphone via Bluetooth in less than a minute or you can actually take the picture from the Canon software. The colors were realistic and pretty close to the original picture.
You download the printer software to your phone by scanning the bar code on the enclosed card. All the instructions you need are then on that software. I got nervous when it took awhile to find the printer but soon all was good. I selected a pic that was already in my "gallery" and touched the print icon. The little printer started whirring. I got nervous AGAIN when a blue card came out instead of the picture, but that's normal, the blue card is used to calibrate the printer and immediately following, my picture slowly emerged from the printer.
Only a few more comments are needed. For what it is, the printer works great. Realize that the pictures however are TINY, 2" by 3" barely wallet sized. The Ivy comes with a pack of 10 printer sheets. When that's gone it costs 50 cents a sheet in packs of either 20 or 50 sheets.
Realizing this, if you think this is something that you might want, you'll be very happy with the Canon Ivy printer.

Good Sound, Wish Battery Life was Longer

I read the directions and the headphones instantly connected both left and right wireless buds to my Smartphone: something that some competing totally wireless buds were not able to do. The buds are clearly labeled "Left" and "Right," put them on and my music appeared. I opened the free Sony Headphones app on my phone and was able to tailor the equalization to my liking.and adjust the noise cancellation and volume (the buds don't have any way to adjust volume by themselves.)
The cancellation feature doesn't come close to a pair of on-ear Bose headphones, but for tiny earbuds they work pretty well.

My biggest disappointment was the battery life. On my last plane trip after about two hours I started getting warnings about low battery. The case will charge the phones two more times without connecting to an external power source, but it means that you won't be able to listen during that time. This would be fine if you're using these buds at the gym, it will easily last for an average workout, but if you're flying any distance you might be disappointed.

Never Been a Camera Like This

It's so hard to describe this little camera. Google calls it a 'smart camera' and I guess it is. It 'learns' about your family, friends and pets using its artificial intelligence. After a while it recognizes them and automatically turns on and takes a little seven second video when it sees some action it thinks you might like. You can override its thinking by pressing the shutter button below the lens to force the video..
It's about the size of a silver dollar, about as light as one too, and you clip it on something in your room, or maybe a bag if you're outside, you aim it at the action and let it alone. .
I downloaded its app on my smartphone (You WILL need to charge your new camera before the app will 'find' it.) . You use the app to see what the camera is seeing as you clip it on something. Later you use the app to find out what clips the camera took and you can easily save or discard them from the app. There's no other way to take the little videos off the camera. Oh, also, very important, the camera does NOT have any audio capabilities at all. It can't hear you or your conversations like Alexa or Google Home can do.
So the nice thing about the camera is when you want to photograph your family and pets, you don't need to stand there holding a camera or phone waiting something to happen and then take it. The camera will do that for you, and of course you can also be in the picture without trying to take a selfie with everyone around you. The camera worked pretty well in the short time I had it. The only warning I would offer is the camera is so small and light it would be really easy to lose it. The clip works really well but if you're outside among other people you might want to keep an eye on it.

Amazing Shaver for the Price.

Norelco shavers have come a long way since I purchased my last one, probably 20 years ago. The old shaver was heavy and after each shave you had to remove each of the rotary cutting heads, making sure you didn't mix up the blade for each and dry clean them with the included brush. To do it right took several minutes and was one of the reasons I switched to a foil head shaver.
The new 3100 is so much easier to clean, you just open it, rinse it under hot water, shake it and you're done. After it dried, the heads seemed whisker free, so much easier than my old Norelco.. The shaver is also half the weight of my old shaver, not much heavier than a blade shaver actually.
But most important is how does it shave? I was given a foil headed shaver a year ago which cost 300 dollars. This shaver is 50. It's really hard to see or feel much difference between the two, and CERTAINLY the other one isn't worth SIX times the cost. The fact that this shaver doesn't have an LCD screen makes no difference to my beard.
Also this shaver comes with a clip on "Stubble Guard." Being an old guy, I had no idea what that was, but I learned that if you like that neatly groomed "stubble look." this shaver will provide that. I don't think I'll be using that feature however.
Bottom line, I don't think you can go wrong with the Norelco 3100 at a 50 dollar price point.

The Smartest Robot Vacuum EVER

If you’ve been holding off buying a robot vacuum, congratulations. The Ozmo 930 was worth waiting for.
The app connected from our Android phone to the robot immediately. After completion, we let the robot start and it was fascinating watching it paint a ‘map’ of our downstairs area on the app. It immediately figured out which area had bare floors and which had carpet and showed it on the ‘map.’ (When it cleans a room with a carpeted and uncarpeted area, it cleans each one separately, changing to a higher speed when it vacuums the carpet. If you like, it has water jets to spray its microfiber pad when doing the bare floor). It vacuums in perfectly straight lines, not haphazardly like some others, and if you’re on a different floor, you can watch its path on the map in real time on the app. If you want it to skip certain areas of the room, such as maybe a Christmas tree, you use the app to specify the boundary.
I have friends who have older robot vacuums, and it seems like they’re always ‘babysitting’ them, getting them unstuck from chairs, low cabinets, etc. It seems to me that misses the point of a ‘robot.’ If you’re constantly having to help it out, you might as well just do it yourself. The Ozmo is incredibly smart in getting free from obstacles, slowing down before hitting them.

After charging it will go back and clean the areas that it missed. When it’s finished it’s easier to empty than most others. We didn’t try it but you can use Alexa or Google Home to command the vacuum as well as the app.

Very Nice Basic Headphones

I gave these phones 4 stars for what you get for the price, comparing them to other headphones at this price point.
You get Sony quality at a low price. There’s no noise cancelling or other premium features, but if you want some really nice “Sony quality sound” you’ll find them in these headphones. I was pleasantly surprised by the base reproduction.
They’re very light, and easy to pair with your device. I just turned on the power, looked for “WH-CH500” while my Bluetooth phone was searching, found it, clicked on it and it was done.
The Bluetooth range was very good. This is important because these phones cannot be connected by wire. You must use either Bluetooth or NFC to listen. Another important feature is battery life, and the WH-CH500 comes through. You should be able to listen for up to 20 hours, which for anyone should be good for the whole day. You can charge them up at night with the enclosed USB cord.
In short these would be fine headphones to use where maybe you don’t want to bring your $500 phones if you have them. Pleasant listening at a reasonable cost.

Now I Need To Have a Party

I’ve acquired a few Bluetooth speakers over the years and after hearing this one, I think I’ll give the others away. You can’t imagine the sound from this small speaker.
And it IS perfect for a party for several reasons. First of all the tight bass will knock your socks off. Then the ‘disco lighting’ which flashes in time with the music and the white ‘strobe lights’ which pop on every few seconds. You can put the speaker in ‘party booster’ mode from the free Sony Music smartphone app. When you tap different sides of the speaker it makes different selectable DJ sounds, like a snare drum or a cowbell, etc. The harder you hit it, the louder the sound. My favorite setting for the speaker is “Live Mode” also selectable from the app. The sound field is expanded as if your music is coming from everywhere.
You do NOT have to baby this speaker. It’s totally waterproof so if it accidentally falls into the pool, no problem so it’s perfect if it starts raining. If it gets dirty or dusty, just rinse it off under a faucet!
It will not fade in the middle of your party. On a full charge, it should provide music for 24 straight hours if the lights are turned off, but since your party probably won’t last that long, just leave ‘em on. Oh, also it has a USB output so if your cell phone starts to conk out, you can use the speaker at the beach or anywhere to charge your phone.

Best Sound From Any Headphone

As a radio DJ starting in the 1960’s, Sennheiser is a name I’m totally familiar with and respect. I was excited learning about their noise cancelling headphones and couldn’t wait to try them.
Since I already own the Bose QC35 noise cancelling headset, and the HD1’s are in the same “class,” I thought it would be helpful to compare the two since if you’re in the market you’d probably compare these two on your own.
Honestly I have never heard a pair of phones with quality like the HD1’s. I think the best way to describe the sound is “clarity.’ It’s like the musicians are right in front of you. You can close your eyes and pick out each instrument. The Bose are good, but they have a kind of signature sound, missing a little in the mid-range. Now some listeners really like this, as in loudspeakers some buyers choose a pair with more ‘warmth’ or more ‘bass.’ I just felt the Sennheisers had the truest to life sound.
The build quality of the HD1 is very good. It’s very easy to adjust the ear pads to your head. The controls on the right ear pad are easy to ‘find’ when you’re wearing them. I especially like that the volume is controlled by a little ‘rocker’ switch. I find it easier to adjust the volume with it than separate ‘louder’ and ‘softer’ buttons which are used by most other manufacturers.
Comparing them again with the Bose there are just two things I felt Bose did better. The noise cancelling with the Bose was superior, but not by much. I compared the two models standing directly by my furnace and then by a washing machine Switching them on, both immediately removed any bass noise. The Sennheiser left a little of the higher frequencies through.
The other feature I found missing in the HD1 was the lack of upgradability. The Bose unit like many other headphones sold today link to a smartphone app. Using that app, you can upgrade the firmware of the QC35 when one is available. You can also, and this is cool, change the level of the noise cancelling circuit at any time. Also you can time the headphones to shut down if you like. None of this is available on the Sennheisers.

You can’t go wrong with either one.

Jabra Figured It Out!

FINALLY a pair of totally wireless ear buds that work without any hassles. I previously had purchased another pair by a DIFFERENT manufacturer. You had to go through all kinds of hoops to get them paired, and then syncing up the individual buds were so complicated that the instructions said you might have to call us to help you!
With these, you just take them out of their powered case, find "Jabra" in your list of devices and click 'pair' DONE! Couldn't be easier.
And then the sound is really good. They didn't have that "earbud" sound, you'd think you were listening to a regular pair of headphones. Battery life is very good also,5 hours at least, and then you just pop them into their case and they can recharge several times over before the CASE needs recharging.
With these, you just take them out of their powered case, find "Jabra" in your list of devices and click 'pair' DONE! Couldn't be easier.
And then the sound is really good. They didn't have that "earbud" sound, you'd think you were listening to a regular pair of headphones. Battery life is very good also,5 hours at least, and then you just pop them into their case and they can recharge several times over before the CASE needs recharging.
In short, if you were thinking of buying totally wireless ear buds but were concerned with the problems of the past, You needn't worry. As I said the folks at Jabra have figured it out.

Fun Digital Assistant

The Insignia "Voice" is very similar to the Amazon Echo. I like this better, for me it was much easier to connect to my other devices around the house. It connected instantly to my Nest thermostat. Alexa was always whining that she couldn't find it. It also connected quickly to my Wemo light dimmer. It's fun just saying, "hey google, turn off the light" than having to open the app on my smartphone to do the same thing.
It found my location more accurately than the Echo. When i ask for the weather or temperature it knows my exactly location as opposed to Alexa giving me the forecast for the nearest big city. Also this speaker will display the temperature when you ask for the weather. Unfortunately, it only lasts a few seconds, it would be amazing for it to display the outside temperature continually as it does for the exact time, but according to the manufacturer that's not going to happen.
A couple of negatives. When this speaker is playing music, you have to YELL "Hey GOOGLE" in order to get it to hear you.The Echo was better with that. Also Sirius-XM is not available yet on this device as it is on the Echo.
All in all though, for the price I'm very happy with it. Alexa lives in my living room and this speaker is on my nightstand. It's going to be fun to see what future updates will teach this device to do.

Do the video feeds show up on home.nest.com for the new cameras?
No, for some reason this camera does NOT work with either the Nest app or home.nest.com. You can NOT see the output of the camera on your computer.

Previous reviewers are saying it's not compatible with the Nest App that my current doorbell and outdoor wired camera is on. Is this true? Can I integrate this camera with my Nest App and other cameras?
Unfortunately this camera is NOT compatible with the google Nest app which to me is a huge disappointment.
You have to use the Google "Home" app which does not work with a PC. So you can't even see the camera's output on a PC, which you obviously can with their other cameras.

How long does it take to charge one of these cameras? I would use it primarily overnight so during the day we would charge it whenever the battery is running low. Speaking of low battery, will the app display battery life remaining?
They claim that under normal use the battery should last about a month. Charging from zero to full should take about 5 hours.
And YES, the battery 'meter' is very large and clearly seen in the Google Home App.
