Effective Snore Relief Band for Back Snorers
on December 3, 2019
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
I was very skeptical when I opened the package that this device would actually help me stop/slow down my snoring. Please note this device does not stop snoring, but rather makes you aware when you are snoring.
After a night or two of getting used to wearing the band/device to bed, it become unnoticeable. It took about a week of learning for the device to better understand my sleep patterns, but once it did, it would make me aware when I was snoring on my back. It vibrates, getting stronger if you don't shift, to let you know you are snoring. In most cases, it made me shift my sleeping position before I got the elbow from the wife.
I also snore on my side and the device isn't effective for that. But for snorers who often sleep on their back, this device will work for you.
The few downsides/negatives for the device are 1) if you are a light sleeper, the device maybe enough to wake you up 2) it doesn't incorporate into any health app so very limited history.

Great Addition to Your USB-C MacBook Pro
on November 12, 2019
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The Platinum Dual USB-C-to-8-Port Hub is a great addition to your USB-C enabled MacBook Pro. With the HDMI, USB 3.0, ethernet ports, and SD and microSD slots, the hub means no more multiple dongles to lug around. The quality of the hub is top notch and matches the premium feel of the MacBook Pro. It's durable and should last a long time with no issues. Performance is not a concern with the hub as the ethernet port provides gigabit speeds and the USB C and 3.0 ports are as fast as advertised. The only downside to this hub is its size. It is on the larger side which makes it a little inconvenient for travel, but is a valuable addition to any MacBook user.

Great, Easy to Use Software for Photos and Video

Let me start by saying I am not a Photoshop expert (not even close). I will say though that using the Adobe Photoshop Elements 2020 and Premiere Elements 2020 software is relatively easy. There are guided tours that help you understand the controls and quickly learn everything the software can do. If you are intimidated by Photoshop or overly complicated video editing software, check out Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 2020. You will be up and running in no time.

Great Automatic Pasta Maker but Poor Instructions
on October 20, 2019
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The Philips Avance Collection Pasta and Noodle Maker is a great automatic machine that makes delicious pasta. My child said it was the best pasta she’s eaten. Just mix the ingredients in the machine and out comes pasta in whatever shape you want.
However, the instruction manual has a lot left to be desired. It is not overly easy to read and understand. The instructions about the proper amount of liquid and flour needed is extremely confusing. I ended up making my best guess based on how I could interpret the instructions. It really is poorly written. Make sure you read the instructions all the way through before you make your first batch of pasta.
Once you are able to understand the instructions, at least we’ll enough to start, it’s very simple. Takes less than 10 minute to have a batch of fresh pasta.

OK But Gets Annoying Quickly
on October 1, 2019
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The Upright Go 2 posture trainer is an OK device that will alert you to your bad posture initially. It's not only the buzzing that reminds you about your slouching, but knowing the device is on your back will make you think about standing and sitting more upright.
However, after a few days, the buzzing can get annoying. Bend over to eat, buzzing, bend over to tie your shoes, buzzing. There is a setting to delay the number of seconds until buzzing, but there are a number of routine activities that will keep setting the device off. After a few days, it can get annoying.
Also, be aware that the manual says it's a USB C plug, but as I found out while traveling, you can't use a "smart" charge cable. My USB C to USB C cable wouldn't work (also confirmed by support which was quick and helpful). Need to carry around ANOTHER cable if you want to be able to charge the device while traveling.

Awesome Portable Hard Drive
on August 24, 2019

The My Passport for Mac 2tB is an awesome little drive. Plug it into your Mac (or iPad Pro with iOS 13 coming in Sept 2019) and it fires right up allowing you extra storage. The small profile (it’s very compact) makes it perfect for frequent travelers. The inclusion of an USB C cable was a great addition for those with recent MacBooks. Overall, couldn’t be more happy with this drive.

Solid Noise Canceling Headphones
on July 24, 2019
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The Sony WH-XB900N Wireless Noise Canceling Over-the-Ear Headphones are a wonderful option for travelers, or others who want/need to drown out the world around them. The headphones are easy to pair via Bluetooth or NFC or plug in using the included cable. Setup is a breeze with the app and it really allows you to customize your listening experience. Adjust the noise canceling level, adjust the EQ, and even tell the headphones which direct to cancel noise. Very smart technology indeed. The headphones can be controlled by tapping on the right earpiece. It's a little strange at first, but quickly becomes second nature.
The padded headphones are very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. I wore them for a 10 hour flight and my ears never got tired/sore.
The 30 hour battery ensures you will have plenty of charge wherever you go and with the quick charge ability (10 minutes of charge for 60 minutes of play), you won't ever be left without a charge.
As a frequent traveler, these headphones have become my must have item for trips. They fold down tightly into a bag and can be tossed easily into a backpack. The only thing missing with the headphones is an airplane adaptor for the included cable.
I couldn't recommend these great headphones more. You won't be disappointed.

Save Your Money
on June 30, 2019
Posted by: bobcats9498

I was excited that the Defender Indoor/Outdoor 2k Wifi Wireless Security Camera was just what I needed for my back porch. Sadly, this camera fails to deliver.
First the good;
* the picture the camera produces sharp images
* night vision seems to work well
Now the bad and the reason to avoid this camera:
* the app you must use for the camera is garbage. It looks like it was written by developers learning app development and written in a day. It’s not intuitive, doesn’t work as designed, and is just bad.
- when you get an alert that motion was detected, you click the notification to view the recording. The app always (I mean every time) says recording not found. Pretty worthless for a security camera.
* The motion detection is terrible. I have it set to trigger only on human detection, but a tiny lizard set it off. Rain even sets it off. Not good.
* The notifications are worthless. Make them smart and include a picture of what was captured in the notification to give users an idea of what triggered the recording.
Overall, don’t waste your money. Much better, and more reliable, cameras on the market.

Great Monitor - Large Screen, High Resolution
on June 27, 2019
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
Overall, a fantastic monitor that has clear, crisp resolution for video, photos, and every day tasks (email, spreadsheets, etc.). You'll notice it isn't 4k, but is definitely better than 1080p.
There is definitely enough real estate to have multiple windows open at once making multitasking easier than ever. It even worked wonderfully with my iPad.
Setup takes just minutes and is pretty much plug in and go. The settings are easy to configure to tune the monitor to your liking. For most users, the default settings will be just fine as the monitor is tuned well right out of the box.
With a monitor this big, you will need to make sure you have the space to sit back a ways from it as sitting too close will reduce the clarity of the monitor (pixilation) and just really hurt your eyes after a while.
A great monitor for work, play, and even watching movies. I recommend this monitor fully.

Limited Features Not Worth the Cost
By bobcats9498
I had high hopes of the Velop mesh wifi system after reading about it from CES reviews. However, that excitement quickly faded as I started to setup and use the system.
I setup the first Velop node (connected to my modem) with no issues. Setup through the app was easy. The troubles came when I started to setup the second node. I have ethernet cable running around the house so had planned on using the nodes connected via ethernet to improve connectivity and throughput. Everything I read indicated that this feature was possible. The second node was being installed about 30 feet away from the primary node (two walls separating them).
I plugged the second node into my ethernet cable and started setup via the app. The app hung on the testing mesh connectivity screen. I called Linksys to get help (I quickly connected to an agent which I really appreciate). After explaining what was going on, she indicated that the system should NOT be connected via ethernet cables as it was not designed to do that. That’s opposite of everything I read. So I disconnected the ethernet cable and tried setup again (this time connecting second note wirelessly to primary). Still could not setup. The agent advised moving the node closer to the primary and trying again. I did this with success and then moved the node back to the original location. I was shocked that I couldn’t setup a second node only 30 feet and two walls away from the primary. The picture in the app while setting up the node shows the second node on a completely separate floor across the house. Not my experience at all.
I setup the third node (by placing it next to the primary and then moving it) and it went fine having learned from the troubles of the second node setup.
After having the system setup and using it, here were my observations:
Pros:
* The Velop system looks great - don’t have to hide nodes
* Setup of the primary node easy using the app
* Throughput is solid - not as high as my existing mesh system (Google) likely due to not being able to connect via ethernet
* Wifi covered entire house easily (4500 SqFt)
* App is easy to use (for average user, see cons below)
* Quick connection time with customer service agent
Cons:
* Setting up additional nodes can be finicky. Must be VERY close to primary node
* Does not support connecting nodes via ethernet likely resulting in reduced wifi throughput
* The app, while great for basic functionality, allows very limited advanced capabilities. You have to use the Linksys app to access the router so there are very few advanced abilities (like you would get if you accessed router via web browser).
* You cannot reserve a custom DHCP address for a device. You can reserve the address assigned to the device currently, but not specify what address you want reserved.
* You can’t change the ip range assigned to devices
* You can’t see what Velop node a device is connected to. You have to “trust” that it is connected to the best node.
Overall, the Velop mesh system is a good choice for many customers. However, given the limited advanced features and high price tag (hundreds more than other similar systems), I have to recommend that customers look at other mesh network options. Sadly, the Velop system doesn’t outshine it’s competitors enough to justify the higher cost.
Hopefully with some much needed firmware and app updates, the product will live up to its price.

Linksys Comment Contridictory to Article Reference
January 17, 2017
In their reply to my review, Linksys states that the nodes can be hard wired once setup wirelessly. They also mention "Having said that, we would still recommend using Velop to Velop wireless connectivity to achieve optimum network speed." They link to an article about setting up the nodes with Ethernet. When I read the article, it says, "The Linksys Velop can be connected together wired via Ethernet. If your home is already wired with Ethernet, you may want to take advantage of these connections to increase the range of your Velop system, maximize the speed, and reduce the risk of wireless interference."
So they say keep it wireless and the article says to keep it wired for improved speeds. Which is it?

How often does the filter need to be replaced and how much does it cost?

Molekule recommends replacing the filter every 6 months. They offer an auto replenishment option (I am not sure of pricing), but if you were to just purchase a replacement filter yourself, it runs $150.

HOW LOUD IS IT?

Crazy loud on the highest setting. It truly sounds like a jet engine taking off. On the auto setting, or level 1 on manual, it is relatively quiet. But as soon as you turn it up or it detects pollutants, it will drown out a room.

Is there anyway to use these earbuds on an airplane for the movies

No way to use on airplanes. The only option is to maybe purchase a bluetooth adaptor for airplanes and pair the headphones to the adaptor.
