Great Two-Way Radio but Don't Expect Long Range
on January 26, 2019
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The Cobra MicroTalk 23-Mile 2-way Radios overall work well. Very easy to use, voice comes through clearly. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the range. In my testing, they lost connection around .5 miles, not near what is advertised. Interference, etc. may have played a factor in the limited range, but I tested with different channels, both radios outdoors, etc. If you are needing a good two-way radio for your office, worksite, or even home, these work great as long as you don't need really extended range.

Great Car Charger
on January 3, 2019
Posted by: bobcats9498

Overall, the Anker Roav SmartCharge 2-Port USB car charger works great. Quickly charges your device and the app gives you an update on the condition of your battery. Adjust the LED light to many colors to add ambiance to your car. The only feature of the charger that never worked for me was the parking reminder. Every time the truck was parked, I received an error message from the Roav app saying it couldn't mark my location but I could take a picture of the parking spot. The parking reminder would be a great feature if it worked. Otherwise, a great charger.

Great Smart Remote But Has a Few Negatives
on December 16, 2018
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
I was so excited when the Sevenhugs Smart Remote came out as I had been following them on Kickstarter for a while. Setup of the remote was very easy. Download the app on your phone, program, and the remote downloads everything from the cloud. No need to plug the remote into your computer. This makes it extremely easy to setup, change, and add new devices.
I was successfully able to setup my TV, receiver, Hue lights, DVD player, and Apple TV within 15 minutes. Within another 30 minutes, I had configured the remote to my personal liking (customized buttons, etc).
A week after I received and setup my remote, Sevenhugs released an update that allows the remote to have a trackpad for use with later generation Apple TVs. This tells me that the team is actively engaged in improving the remote and will continually add new devices and features. This is important to keep the remote "smart".
I am engaged with the Sevenhugs support team to try and fix an issue where the iPhone app crashes when I try to access the setup of one of my devices. The response rate from support has been slower than I would like, but I expect they are busy with the release of the Smart remote. Hopefully we can resolve my issue soon.
Pros:
* Easy setup - no need to plug remote into a computer
* Works with many devices with more being added
* Feature coming soon (in beta now) that allows you to customize the buttons on the remote
* Active development on features and device support
Cons:
* Battery life is dismal - lasts just a day before needing to be recharged
* To get the point and control to work, you have to stick 3 "hockey puck" style sensors on your wall. These look tacky as they are in plain view.
* App crashes when accessing a device settings (hopefully not a widespread issue).
Overall, the Sevenhugs smart remote is truly the first "smart" remote I've seen. Works well and should just continue to improve over time with (hopefully) frequent updates.

Great All in One PC
on December 16, 2018
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
This Dell Inspiron 27" Touch-Screen All-In-One computer is a great machine for whatever you are needing to do. It is built well and is heavy (but not too heavy that one person can't set it up). For the size of the machine, it surprisingly takes up little space on a desktop. Setup is easy and the included wireless keyboard and mouse work great. The touchscreen is responsive and works well. With the heftiness of the machine, you can easily use the touchscreen without fear of moving or knocking over the device.
Pros:
Easy setup
Fast processor
Plenty of RAM
Sound quality (wow! This is so much better than expected)
Compact space on desk
Wireless keyboard and mouse
Integrated microphone and camera
Cons:
HD is slow (would have loved to see an SSD on this machine - recommend replacing the HD with SSD)
Overall, a solid, low profile, great all in one machine.

Great Practical, Cost Effective Chromebook
on December 10, 2018
Posted by: bobcats9498

The Lenovo Yoga C630 Chromebook is a great machine. It's powerful, has great battery life (around 10 hours of web surfing), and has a solid feel thanks to the aluminum frame. The Intel Core i5 processor and 8 Gb of memory means this machine can perform. Web surfing, word processing, and heavy spreadsheet processing don't slow this thing down. The fully hinged display is great if you want to go into "tablet" mode. The touch screen is responsive and fluid. The device is a little on the large side, but not so much so you can't travel with it. If you are looking for an affordable powerhouse Chromebook, look no further.

Doesn't work in all situations
on November 8, 2018
Posted by: bobcats9498

The Streamlabs Wi-Fi Home Water Monitoring and Leak Detection System is easy to install assuming you have at least a section of 6 to 8 straight smooth pipe to attach the device to. You also must have a power outlet nearby which makes it impossible to install the device in a yard main. I had to attach it, after replacing the pipe since it wasn't smooth and straight, on the inlet to my water softener. So the easy to install in 5 minutes is true if everything is perfect. Would have preferred to install by the main intake in the yard, but the power requirement made that not possible. Before purchasing, make sure you have 1) power nearby, 2) a straight smooth piece of pipe at least 6 to 8 inches long. Otherwise, it won't work.

Awesome Toaster Oven!
on November 8, 2018
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The DeLonghi convention/toaster oven is awesome. It has many cooking options, but remains simple to use at the same time. Easy bake a pizza, make toast, heat up frozen food, it does it all. And it looks great sitting on the kitchen counter. The included recipe book is a great addition as well. The top of the unit does get very hot when cooking so make sure you don't have anything sitting on it when it's operating. If you are needing a great, multipurpose convection/toaster oven, look no further.

Solid Baby Camera
on October 25, 2018
Posted by: bobcats9498

The Panasonic connected baby monitor is a great monitor. Pictures and sounds are clear and crisp. The ability to adjust sensitivity levels for motion and sound detection is nice as at the highest level, the slightest sounds and movement set it off. It does take a few seconds for the infrared to kick-in once the lights are turned off, but it's not a huge deal. Overall, a solid baby monitor for keeping an eye and ear on your little one.

Good but Complicated
on October 15, 2018
Posted by: bobcats9498

The Ninja cooker is a great cooker that can do a lot. Slow cook, air fry, dehydrate, and more. That’s also the slight downfall of this unit. It’s not just set it and forget it depending on what your cooking. The included instruction manual provides some great recipes, but I’ve been afraid to try something new as the unit can be complicated between the many cooking choices and two lids. I think once you get used to cooking with the unit, it can replace a number of other appliances. Cleanup is simple as much is dishwasher safe.

Limited Features Not Worth the Cost
By bobcats9498
I had high hopes of the Velop mesh wifi system after reading about it from CES reviews. However, that excitement quickly faded as I started to setup and use the system.
I setup the first Velop node (connected to my modem) with no issues. Setup through the app was easy. The troubles came when I started to setup the second node. I have ethernet cable running around the house so had planned on using the nodes connected via ethernet to improve connectivity and throughput. Everything I read indicated that this feature was possible. The second node was being installed about 30 feet away from the primary node (two walls separating them).
I plugged the second node into my ethernet cable and started setup via the app. The app hung on the testing mesh connectivity screen. I called Linksys to get help (I quickly connected to an agent which I really appreciate). After explaining what was going on, she indicated that the system should NOT be connected via ethernet cables as it was not designed to do that. That’s opposite of everything I read. So I disconnected the ethernet cable and tried setup again (this time connecting second note wirelessly to primary). Still could not setup. The agent advised moving the node closer to the primary and trying again. I did this with success and then moved the node back to the original location. I was shocked that I couldn’t setup a second node only 30 feet and two walls away from the primary. The picture in the app while setting up the node shows the second node on a completely separate floor across the house. Not my experience at all.
I setup the third node (by placing it next to the primary and then moving it) and it went fine having learned from the troubles of the second node setup.
After having the system setup and using it, here were my observations:
Pros:
* The Velop system looks great - don’t have to hide nodes
* Setup of the primary node easy using the app
* Throughput is solid - not as high as my existing mesh system (Google) likely due to not being able to connect via ethernet
* Wifi covered entire house easily (4500 SqFt)
* App is easy to use (for average user, see cons below)
* Quick connection time with customer service agent
Cons:
* Setting up additional nodes can be finicky. Must be VERY close to primary node
* Does not support connecting nodes via ethernet likely resulting in reduced wifi throughput
* The app, while great for basic functionality, allows very limited advanced capabilities. You have to use the Linksys app to access the router so there are very few advanced abilities (like you would get if you accessed router via web browser).
* You cannot reserve a custom DHCP address for a device. You can reserve the address assigned to the device currently, but not specify what address you want reserved.
* You can’t change the ip range assigned to devices
* You can’t see what Velop node a device is connected to. You have to “trust” that it is connected to the best node.
Overall, the Velop mesh system is a good choice for many customers. However, given the limited advanced features and high price tag (hundreds more than other similar systems), I have to recommend that customers look at other mesh network options. Sadly, the Velop system doesn’t outshine it’s competitors enough to justify the higher cost.
Hopefully with some much needed firmware and app updates, the product will live up to its price.

Linksys Comment Contridictory to Article Reference
January 17, 2017
In their reply to my review, Linksys states that the nodes can be hard wired once setup wirelessly. They also mention "Having said that, we would still recommend using Velop to Velop wireless connectivity to achieve optimum network speed." They link to an article about setting up the nodes with Ethernet. When I read the article, it says, "The Linksys Velop can be connected together wired via Ethernet. If your home is already wired with Ethernet, you may want to take advantage of these connections to increase the range of your Velop system, maximize the speed, and reduce the risk of wireless interference."
So they say keep it wireless and the article says to keep it wired for improved speeds. Which is it?

How often does the filter need to be replaced and how much does it cost?

Molekule recommends replacing the filter every 6 months. They offer an auto replenishment option (I am not sure of pricing), but if you were to just purchase a replacement filter yourself, it runs $150.

HOW LOUD IS IT?

Crazy loud on the highest setting. It truly sounds like a jet engine taking off. On the auto setting, or level 1 on manual, it is relatively quiet. But as soon as you turn it up or it detects pollutants, it will drown out a room.

Is there anyway to use these earbuds on an airplane for the movies

No way to use on airplanes. The only option is to maybe purchase a bluetooth adaptor for airplanes and pair the headphones to the adaptor.
