Great Addition to Sous Vide Cooking
on November 28, 2020

The Anova Precision 12L Container is a great addition to your sous vide cooking. The lid keeps the water from evaporating while the metal rack keeps your food underwater. With the smooth round edges, water flows easily and freely around the container giving the best possible cook. A simple, yet great, addition to your sous vide cooking.

Large, Loud, Expensive, but Effective
on November 18, 2020
Posted by: bobcats9498

The Molekule Air Pro Purifier is a beast in a number of ways.
First, it has quite a large footprint. Standing several feet tall and with a diameter of about a foot, it can't really be hidden in a room. But it is aesthetically pleasing to look at so doesn't look out of place in a large room.
Secondly, when the purifier is on top speed (level 6), it is a jet engine, It is so very loud. As it spins up, it truly does sound like a jet engine spinning up. Luckily, when on auto and the air is clean, it is very quiet. Only when it detects particles or contaminants in air, it spins up loudly to quickly clean the air.
And clean the air it does. The Air Pro can quickly remove smells from a room (bacon, dirty diapers, etc.) making the air smell fresh again. With the PECO air purification technology, the Air Pro destroys VOCs, bacteria, mold, viruses, allergens, and more instead of just trapping the airborne particles. It really is amazing how quickly the purifier cleans the air.
Setup is relatively easy, though it took me two tries to get it setup properly and the phone app makes controlling the machine and viewing your air quality easy. For the price of the device, I did expect the app to have much more functionality like recording the air quality over time, reporting the outdoor air quality, etc. It's a very basic, and I mean basic, app.
Replacement filters (recommended replacement every 6 months) run at $150 each. That's an additional $300 a year to keep the machine working at its optimal performance. The PECO technology built into the filters truly drives up the cost of replacements.
Overall, the Molekule Air Pro purifier is a great air purifier (the best I've tried), but with the large up front cost and yearly cost for filters, it is very hard to recommend this machine. if you want the cleanest air in your home no matter the cost, this machine is for you. Otherwise, it is difficult to justify the large expense.

My 8 Year Old Loves It
on October 27, 2020

My 8 year old loves the iRobot Root rt0 Coding Robot. Needless to say, she picked up how to program the device faster than I did.
There are not many instructions when you first open the box. I recommend you fully charge the robot before starting and you must use Chrome as the browser as it supports the use of bluetooth which is how you program to the device. Once it is setup (it's petty easy), let your children go to town and learn.
The robot has a number of sensors (lights, speaker, touch, etc.) that make programing the robot fun. The included foldable "whiteboard" and marker allow your child to draw lines for the robot to follow.
This is a great, easy to use, robot that will hopefully get your children interested in STEM like it has my child.

A Good DIY Security System
on October 23, 2020
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The Lorex Home Center with 1080p WiFi cameras is a good do-it-yourself security system. Setup is relatively straight forward. Mount the cameras where you want them using the supplied hardware and templates and plug them in. The included power cables are long enough to allow for the cameras to be mounted almost anywhere. Once cameras are installed, setting them up in the home center is pretty easy and the home center walks you through it.
Pros:
* Setup is pretty straight forward
* You can setup the mobile app to view your cameras on the go
* Can expand system easily with additional cameras, doorbells, etc.
* Voice activated home center
* No monthly fees
* Record locally to SD card
* Two way audio on the cameras
Cons:
* Cameras are 1080p and not 4K
* Touchscreen on home center seems “cheap”
* Navigation of home center is not overly intuitive
* Face recognition on home center to unlock only recognizes one face. Not easy to use with more than one person who may need to check footage.
* No subscription fees
* Cannot add existing Lorex hardwired cameras to home center. I already had a Lorex system, but they won’t work in the home center, just the remote app.
Overall, the Lorex Home Center with WiFi Cameras is a good security starter pack. There are better systems available, but the ease of setup and use with this system means you can be up and running in no time.
In the end, I just setup the cameras in the Lorex mobile app and don’t use the home center much. This way I can quickly keep an eye on my camera recording, motion detections, get alerts, etc. right to my phone.

Awesome Expresso Machine with a Few Minor Cons
on October 20, 2020
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The De'Longhi Dinamica expresso machine is a wonderfully awesome device that makes delicious coffee drinks. It's like having a barista in your own kitchen. Yes the price is expensive, but it delivers.
Pros:
* Delicious coffee
* A number of already loaded recipes
* The milk froth is perfect - light and soft
* The machine cleans itself when turning on/off and after frothing milk
* The milk container is easily removable. Great to be able to store it in the refrigerator between uses
* The machine will let you know what it needs (empty grounds, add water, etc.)
* Water filter in the tank to ensure the best quality of water being used to make drinks
Cons:
* The water tank is pretty small. You will find yourself refilling it frequently
* The machine will only warn you when you are out of beans, not close to being out so make sure to check the bean hopper frequently or you may get a light coffee.
* Can be a little complicated to figure out all of the details, but once you do, it is simple to use.
Tips for Use:
* Keep a cup under the spout to make it easier to clean. When the machine turns on or off, or after frothing milk, the machine will pump hot water through to clean everything. The collection tray can fill quickly. Having a cup under the spout makes it easier to dump the water.
* Keep the milk container full and in your fridge. When needed, quickly plug it into the machine and away you go.
Yes, this machine is not cheap. But, it does make great expressos, cappuccinos, and many more drinks in the comfort of your home. You get great quality coffee for the price. You won't be disappointed.

Great Sound but Not Perfect Earbuds
on October 5, 2020
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The Bose sport earbuds overall are good, not great, but good. Let's start first with the best elements of the earbuds. First is the sound quality. The earbuds have great sound quality, as you would expect from Bose. The bass is just right (more than AirPods), but not overpowering. The mids and treble is a good balance. All around great sound. The quality of phone calls is also brilliant. Folks on the other end of the line said I sounded clear and crisp as if I was talking directly into the phone.
The companion app is solid allowing you quickly to view the details of your earbuds and see the music being played. It is also used to update the earbuds as new firmware is released.
The comfort of the earbuds, at least for me, was great. After a bit, I forgot I had the earbuds in they were so comfortable. With the ability to adjust the tip size, almost everyone should be able to get the earbuds to fit comfortably.
The biggest negative with the earbuds is the touch controls on the buds. You can double tap the right earbud to play and pause music and answer calls. On the left, you can setup limited shortcuts like tell you the battery level or skip a track. What is missing is the ability to adjust the volume. You have to use your phone to adjust the volume for the music you are listening to or phone call you are on. This seems like a very fundamental necessity of bluetooth earbuds. Why Bose didn't allow for this, I have no idea.
Overall, for the price, the Bose Sport Earbuds are a solid choice given the sound quality produced. You will have to overcome the requirement to use your phone for some basic things like changing the volume, but once over that, the earbuds are solid. Hopefully Bose will be able to bring the volume control to the touch surface in a future firmware update.

Great Countertop Oven with Awesome Air Fryer
on September 24, 2020
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The Oster countertop oven with air fryer is one great little machine. It can bake, toast, broil, warm, and best of all air fry. Like many countertop ovens, the Oster countertop oven does great with bake, broil, and toast options. So I will focus on the feature I have used the most, and that is the air fry. This oven can go up to 450 degrees and can air fry food in a fraction of the time of baking without the mess and unhealthiness of real frying. Frozen fries, tots, onion rings cook in 10 minutes or less and come out crispy like they were traditionally fried. Chicken nuggets and chicken wings, no problem. Crispy and perfect every time. The machine comes with a recipe book to try and of course you can find many air fry recipes on the web.
This machine does pretty much everything you could need in an oven and doesn't require you have a separate air fryer. Only downside/complaint of the machine is the loud ticking noise on the timer. When you set the timer, it ticks quite loudly as it winds down.

A Great Gimble for Everyone
on September 12, 2020
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The DJI OM 4 is a great gimble for novices and professionals alike. I am a total newbie to using a device like this and within a matter on minutes I was up and running.
The use of magnets which allows you to quickly and easily mount your phone to the gimble is brilliant. I will say that the clamp that comes with the OM 4 is a little tight on larger phones (I was using iPhone 11 Pro Max), but it fit. The clamp is rubberized so won’t scratch your phone.
With the required companion app (download from the Apple or Google App Store), you can quickly connect your phone to the device and start shooting video quickly.
A few things I really liked about the gimble (again viewing from a newbie perspective):
* Gesture control - turn on ActiveTrack to have the gimble automatically follow you or a subject around
* Panoramic option to take beautiful pano pictures. The app seamlessly stitches the photos together.
* CloneMe Pano - stitch a picture together of you or a subject in three different posses.
The gimble itself if lightweight, comes with a great small tripod, and a soft carrying case to make it easily portable.
I still have much to learn to become a pro with the OM 4, but given the ease of use and many features, it shouldn’t be too difficult. It’s a great gimble for the price. You won’t regret owning one.

A Beast of a Personal Blender!
on September 7, 2020

The Ninja Foodi Power Nutri Duo is one great and powerful machine. My family drinks smoothies most mornings and this machine delivers. Throw in your frozen fruit and liquids and hit the button. The machine, while loud, goes to work and blends smoothies better than any machine I’ve used before. For thicker blends, the special Power Paddle lid makes it so simple to push the contents towards the blades. Speaking of the blades, these things rock. They chop through ice and don’t break a sweat.
The machine comes with several cups and lids making it easy to make smoothies for the whole family. Cleanup is a breeze using the top rack of the dishwasher or toss a drop or two of soap in and blend it clean.
We haven’t ventured away from smoothies yet, but are excited to try making our own peanut butter soon. I have no doubt this little machine can make it easy. With the included recipe book, you will have no shortage of things to try.
I absolutely recommend this device for anyone who loves smoothies and easy clean-up.

Awesome Mic for the Price
on July 20, 2020
Posted by: bobcats9498
from Austin, TX
The JLab Audio TALK GO Plug & Play Microphone is a great mic given the price point. Setup is super simple and within a few minutes, you will be up and running.
The mic connects via a USB-C to USB-A cable to your computer and greatly improves the sound quality being sent to the device. You can also use an adaptor or different cable to use the mic to record to your iPad or iPhone seamlessly.
I use the mic for conference calls and others have commented on how clear I sound.
The controls on the mic are easy to use and the colors shown by the mic make it easy to understand what mode you are in.
Overall, I recommend this mic for conference calls, sounds recording, and podcasts. The sound quality, features, ease of use, and price make this mic a must have.

Limited Features Not Worth the Cost
By bobcats9498
I had high hopes of the Velop mesh wifi system after reading about it from CES reviews. However, that excitement quickly faded as I started to setup and use the system.
I setup the first Velop node (connected to my modem) with no issues. Setup through the app was easy. The troubles came when I started to setup the second node. I have ethernet cable running around the house so had planned on using the nodes connected via ethernet to improve connectivity and throughput. Everything I read indicated that this feature was possible. The second node was being installed about 30 feet away from the primary node (two walls separating them).
I plugged the second node into my ethernet cable and started setup via the app. The app hung on the testing mesh connectivity screen. I called Linksys to get help (I quickly connected to an agent which I really appreciate). After explaining what was going on, she indicated that the system should NOT be connected via ethernet cables as it was not designed to do that. That’s opposite of everything I read. So I disconnected the ethernet cable and tried setup again (this time connecting second note wirelessly to primary). Still could not setup. The agent advised moving the node closer to the primary and trying again. I did this with success and then moved the node back to the original location. I was shocked that I couldn’t setup a second node only 30 feet and two walls away from the primary. The picture in the app while setting up the node shows the second node on a completely separate floor across the house. Not my experience at all.
I setup the third node (by placing it next to the primary and then moving it) and it went fine having learned from the troubles of the second node setup.
After having the system setup and using it, here were my observations:
Pros:
* The Velop system looks great - don’t have to hide nodes
* Setup of the primary node easy using the app
* Throughput is solid - not as high as my existing mesh system (Google) likely due to not being able to connect via ethernet
* Wifi covered entire house easily (4500 SqFt)
* App is easy to use (for average user, see cons below)
* Quick connection time with customer service agent
Cons:
* Setting up additional nodes can be finicky. Must be VERY close to primary node
* Does not support connecting nodes via ethernet likely resulting in reduced wifi throughput
* The app, while great for basic functionality, allows very limited advanced capabilities. You have to use the Linksys app to access the router so there are very few advanced abilities (like you would get if you accessed router via web browser).
* You cannot reserve a custom DHCP address for a device. You can reserve the address assigned to the device currently, but not specify what address you want reserved.
* You can’t change the ip range assigned to devices
* You can’t see what Velop node a device is connected to. You have to “trust” that it is connected to the best node.
Overall, the Velop mesh system is a good choice for many customers. However, given the limited advanced features and high price tag (hundreds more than other similar systems), I have to recommend that customers look at other mesh network options. Sadly, the Velop system doesn’t outshine it’s competitors enough to justify the higher cost.
Hopefully with some much needed firmware and app updates, the product will live up to its price.

Linksys Comment Contridictory to Article Reference
January 17, 2017
In their reply to my review, Linksys states that the nodes can be hard wired once setup wirelessly. They also mention "Having said that, we would still recommend using Velop to Velop wireless connectivity to achieve optimum network speed." They link to an article about setting up the nodes with Ethernet. When I read the article, it says, "The Linksys Velop can be connected together wired via Ethernet. If your home is already wired with Ethernet, you may want to take advantage of these connections to increase the range of your Velop system, maximize the speed, and reduce the risk of wireless interference."
So they say keep it wireless and the article says to keep it wired for improved speeds. Which is it?

How often does the filter need to be replaced and how much does it cost?

Molekule recommends replacing the filter every 6 months. They offer an auto replenishment option (I am not sure of pricing), but if you were to just purchase a replacement filter yourself, it runs $150.

HOW LOUD IS IT?

Crazy loud on the highest setting. It truly sounds like a jet engine taking off. On the auto setting, or level 1 on manual, it is relatively quiet. But as soon as you turn it up or it detects pollutants, it will drown out a room.

Is there anyway to use these earbuds on an airplane for the movies

No way to use on airplanes. The only option is to maybe purchase a bluetooth adaptor for airplanes and pair the headphones to the adaptor.
