I've been hoping for a great trackball
on September 24, 2017

I've been a fan of trackballs for years. I like their comfort, and I like that they use such a small footprint on your workspace. Unfortunately, trackballs haven't liked me back. Over the years, they'd had all sorts of design limitations, mostly poor and unreliable tracking, no precision. This trackball solves these issues and more! At first I was going to use it to replace my desktop setup. Now I think it's going to be my primary mouse for travel and everything!
It's cordless. It uses Bluetooth so you aren't dependent on the usb receiver. This means it's easy to share among two computers because you can switch between channels, you don't have to take the receiver with you, and you get to conserve a precious USB port, and the battery life is impressive so far.
The pointer tracking is awesome. It is as responsive as a top grade mouse, and you don't have to pick up and reposition your thumb to move the pointer across your screen. It even has a precision mode; just hit the button above the ball and suddenly the ball moves the pointer precisely over a small space.
The adjustable angle -- really clever engineering. At first I was really leery of it. The bases are attached by magnet, so I thought it would be a hassle to stow the mouse in my bag, and that it wouldn't support the weight of my hand when I'm excitedly zipping around the screen. It's really stabile, even at the extreme maximum angle. By the way, that extreme angle is really comfortable for me and my big hands, it feels way better than the traditional shallow position of a trackball.
It has the minimum buttons I've grown to need these days -- it has a scroll wheel and forward and back buttons.
I'm not happy with the position of the forward and back buttons, and that cost the review one whole star. Forward and back should be at opposite sides of the trackball so they are more intuitive and I can hit them without repositioning my index finger. That's a big departure from what I'm used to. Also, the stacked orientation of the forward and back buttons is not intuitive, so I have to consciously think about which is which.
The scroll wheel is pretty good. One improvement would be a quick way to scroll to the top or bottom of the window.
I never quite got used to tilting the scroll wheel for side scrolling. I recently got a Logitech MX Master 2S mouse, and it has a side scroll wheel right under your thumb. That would be awesome for this trackball. I would position it on the edge of the device, near where the precision button is located.
Overall, if you're a trackball fan, get this one.

Professional quality, very useful
on September 24, 2017

I'm a newbie with steam mops, so the first thing I'd want to know when shopping is, "why do I need this?" I've been using this, trying the different attachments and on different surfaces, and I find that this does stuff that nothing else does. It cleans my kitchen and bathroom floors with just water, so I don't have to keep cleaning stuff on hand, and it does a great job. There's even a scrubber mop for tougher sticky messes. It gets into those difficult gaps like the gaps and edges of your faucets, the deep corners of your microwave and other metal appliances, and it pulls the wrinkles out of my dress shirts!
Setup was really easy. It comes with a variety of tools. The instructions are really brief so I'm doing some amount of trial and error for how to use which attachment and for what.
It comes with a tool hanger! That keeps it organized.
I'm really impressed with the quality of construction and the thought behind the usage and functionality.
Pros:
Easy to set up
Easy to use
very effective
Great quality and construction
Tools organizer
Generous water reservoir
Washable and reusable mops
Uses plain water, don't have to buy cleaning fluids
Cons:
Instructions are vague
No hose, so there's not enough flexibility to clean the walls and top inside the microwave or other appliances

This one works!
on September 13, 2017

I've been archiving my documents for years using scanners, so I was really excited to see this machine come out.
So, first here's my review of the DS-860. For more context, I'm including some of my history with scanners below.
Super easy setup; just snap on the feed tray and plug in the power and USB and you're ready to install the software. Note -- on my system it was acting a little wonky when plugged into a USB 3 port; the computer couldn't communicate 2-way with the scanner. Use a USB 2 port if you have one. Didn't try it on my USB 3 only or USB C only computers yet.
I had to uninstall all the scanner and document management software I've installed over the years to get all of the functionality right. That's probably a best practice anyway, and I didn't lose any documents.
Super fast just scanning. I added some features like correct document skew, auto detect size and type (color, b&w, grayscale) , skip blank pages, text enhancement, and OCR save as searchable, and that slowed down the scan rate, but it's still way faster than my multifunction printer.
Really impressive performance; I was able to scan canary-paper carbonless copies and the scanner was able to pick up the text and even perform OCR on the form fields and some of the handwriting.
The folded/stacked lever is really handy and makes the paper loading much more reliable. The catch tray is also really improved with a sharp up-curve and a good stop. The paper stop in the catch tray is a little wonky, though, you have to use a little force to get it to snap into place, and I was afraid I was going to break something.
Haven't tried to scan a stack of photographs yet, and I don't know whether it can handle slides or negatives.
Network functionality would be great -- I'm surprised that it's an add-on rather than included, but it's fine. I have a dedicated workstation for document management anyway.
It's cool that it has a "job select" function that allows you to configure up to 9 different job settings. That way I can just walk up the the scanner and feed a document, receipt, etc into and it'll do the right job based on the document. Just need to remember which number 1-9 corresponds to which action.
Overall, if you have piles of papers to scan every week, this is a high performance machine!
Now if you want more interesting reading, here's where I got to where I am today with scanning:
I've had file cabinets as far back as I can remember to keep important records. After moving a few times, I questioned how much of that paper I really needed to keep. To reduce the load of paper at home, I started scanning my documents and shredding them for security. There's some things, like titles, sentimental stuff, etc that I scan but keep anyway.
Over the years I found I needed a sheet feeder. Flatbeds just couldn't handle the quantity of statements, bills, receipts, owners manuals, etc that I get. Being cost conscious, I relied on multi-function printers. These had sheet feed scanners, but they couldn't really handle documents with multiple pages or dual-sides very well. They could flip the paper, but that often resulted in jams. In fact, the sharply-curved paper path itself also caused jams with anything that was a little bit too thick, too thin, wrinkled, etc.
For a while, I used a dedicated professional SCSI sheet-feed scanner. It worked pretty well, but it was only black and white and it wasn't duplex at all; I'd have to flip the pages and refeed them to get my documents. That led to greater reliance on multi-function printers, where were much slower and less reliable.
Then, I just decided to throw cost out the window and get a dedicated device, so I bought an Epson GT-S50. I was really impressed with its speed and reliability. It came with some pretty powerful software. Over the years though, I had more and more problems with it as my computers got newer operating systems. The scanner was throwing up "fatal error" messages and refusing to scan things. This was getting worse and worse, 'til I got frustrated and went back to a multi-function printer, this time the printer has one-pass duplex scanning. It's not nearly as fast or reliable as the GT-S50 was, and the paper path goes through a very sharp curve so it can't feed anything thicker than paper. However, the software that came with the printer actually allowed the GT-S50 to work again; must have included a better driver. I still planned to retire the GT-S50 because now I had two devices that could do the same thing, so I'd rather take my chances with the printer than waste desk space on the scanner.
Now that I have this DS-860, I'll for sure give it some desk space. It's just small enough so it can fit on my desk next to the keyboard.

Great for travelers and rental cars
on September 11, 2017

Great timing to get this thing -- I received it right before traveling for vacation, so I got to use it in different cars in different states.
With that said -- this is great for travelers. It sets up easily, requires no modifications, and leaves no marks. The phone holder mounts to an air vent and holds the phone pretty well with a bit of positioning possible. The mount would be annoying if if were to be used as a permanent fixture in a single car because it isn't really rigid, and there's a limit to the viewing angles.
I'd suggest that they added a couple of things to make it even better for travelers; a carrying bag or case, and an AC adapter so you can use it in your hotel room.
It comes with a generous amount of cable, so I had no problems with reach. It also comes with velcro cable ties, so you can make the excess coils of cable nice and neat. Lots of great details in the design -- the amplifier module has hook velcro on it so it sticks to floor mats, and the antenna has a clever way to route the cable so that it comes out at the correct angle in relation to how you route the cable into your car.
As for functionality -- I didn't do exhaustive tests on how it improves signal -- the AC adapter would have really helped there! But I did notice my phone jumped from 1-2 bars to 4-5 bars in a fairly remote area. It looks really promising.

We've been looking into air fryers for a while now to have a healthier and less messy way to deep fry potatoes, shrimp, veggies, etc. This machine does a great job on potatoes! Made both frozen and fresh French fries. It was super easy to do and they came out great! I also made tortilla chips just by cutting up tortillas and throwing them in the machine. The really awesome part is that it also cooks. We made roasted vegetables just by cutting them up and dumping them in the machine with a little oil and garlic salt, and they came out really good. Highly recommended for ease of use, less mess than oil fryers, and easy cleanup.

Great travel mouse

I've had dozens of mouses over the years and they just keep getting better. I have a newer laptop that has Bluetooth connectivity but the USB ports are scarce, so I don't want to tie up a USB port permanently for a mouse controller. This mouse has all the features I want, I can switch it among three different computers, and it tracks incredibly well on any surface. It's a good portable size but the controls aren't cramped together. It's a good weight, and the battery life is awesome.

Ensure maximum comfort from this Logitech mouse. The precise ergonomic design ensures you stay comfortable throughout the day even if you're a power user, and the additional side button lets you create a custom setup. Smooth gliding is assured from this Logitech mouse thanks to the low-resistance base that slips over any surface.

Worked right away with no setup, very comfortable
on June 30, 2017
Posted by: Snarltoof

I have four computers at home connected through a KVM. I unplugged the old mouse from the KVM and plugged in the Logitech receiver, and the mouse worked really nicely on all four computers. The mouse and wheel speed felt really natural. The mouse glides smoothly over my matte-finished desk surface, and the weight makes it really comfortable. I see there's lots of great feedback from the other reviews that I agree with. Here's a bit more info:
It comes with almost zero instructions. I'm attaching a picture of the actual instructions included in the box; there was a sticker on the bottom surface with a few pictures and that's it. What's the top button for? I have no idea.
The side scrolling wheel works great on my windows 10 machines, not so much on my locked-down work computer. No big deal there. However, the side scrolling wheel spins so nicely that it doesn't even feel like it's spinning, if that makes any sense. Just brush it with your thumb and it responds.
I'm not thrilled with the size and position of the forward button. The back button is perfect, but the forward button is kind of small and I have to hunt for it if I want to use it.
It's weirdly clunky; it feels like there's moving parts rattling around inside when you move it quickly or shake it. Okay, it's a mouse, don't shake it, I get it. It's still weird.
I was gonna say how awesome the texture on the thumb rest looks and feels, and, wow, I found another button! I had no idea there was a button down there, but that "pop up all your windows" function is really cool and I'll get a lot of use out of it.
Overall, it's awesome.

My favorite bluetooth speaker so far!
on June 27, 2017
Posted by: Snarltoof

I've been using various portable speakers over the years, and it seems that the higher quality ones are getting better and better. This speaker looks like it was designed by someone who wanted an all-around go-to speaker, and I'm really impressed by the features that they chose to include. A drybox on the bottom that can fit a full-size contemporary phone with a protective case, that even has a charging port and audio input plug! Who thought of putting that into a speaker -- that's awesome! The sound quality is solid. It's not super thumpy but the midrange sound is clean. The sound especially sounds good outdoors. Indoors it can sound a bit hollow. I found that the charging ports didn't work on my Google Pixel when the battery level was at 25%, but it did work at 50% and above. The speaker is durable and I love how it has handles designed into it, making it easy to grab in spite of its size. I'm a little grumpy that it uses a power plug instead of a USB plug to charge -- I'm sure it's to get maximum throughput. Would a USB C have worked here? What if I lose or break the power adapter? Fortunately it lasts a long time on a charge. Anyway -- highly recommended.

Great for outdoors
on June 22, 2017
Posted by: Snarltoof
from Minneapolis, MN
I've used lots of different Bluetooth speakers, and this one certainly stands out for a few reasons -- it's portable for its size and durable. It's LOUD! Really easy to set up and use. I'm optimistic about battery life, but I haven't burned through a charge yet! It's awesome that you can use it as a phone charger, too. This is great for outdoors parties, so it will be very busy entertaining me and my friends this summer! And the price for this is really reasonable. Good value.
A couple of drawbacks -- for its size, I'm surprised at how light it is, and I think that's why the bass is not as kicking as I'd expect for a speaker this size. I was really expecting some thump or pound to support heavy EDM, but it's just not there. I have a Bluetooth speaker about the size of a tennis ball can, and that speaker has a very very similar range as this one. A couple of technical drawbacks -- the navigation buttons don't control Pandora on my phone. I hooked up a speaker to the aux out, but there was a delay in the sound from the second speaker. I don't know if it was my speaker, I'll have to do more testing, but it's just not cool with the supplied cord. If they were like 50 feet apart it wouldn't be as much as an issue.
Anyway -- if you're going to the beach, the lake, bonfires, etc, and you want to bring the sound, this would do it for you.

They got it right!
By Snarltoof from Minneapolis, MN
I've been using tablets for years, including my first Galaxy Tab 7" tablet, a variety of Acer and Asus tablets, a Surface, and Surface Book. I've also been a fan of the Samsung Galaxy phones, having a 3, 4, and a 5.
When I first got this S3 tablet, I was expecting to get decent tablet performance. What I got was a powerhouse in an elegant, extremely light weight package. The size is great -- it's way more portable than my Surface devices, and the type cover gives it a good amount of protection.
Great job on the type cover, guys! The magnet attachment and the tilted viewing angle are great. It would be awesome if the type cover had a hole for the rear camera. A couple of other minor keyboard quirks; the tablet only accepts the keyboard if the tablet is unlocked when you attach it. I was also hoping for an android button on the type cover but couldn't find it at first. I read the instructions (under settings/physical keyboard/keyboard shortcuts) and it shows a "super" button that supports all the commands I'd want to use for an Android keyboard. After hunting around, I figured out that the "search" button on the keyboard, with the magnifying glass icon, is this "super" button. Now my hands don't need to leave the keyboard. The keys are a fairly natural size, not too cramped for my very large hands, They didn't bother making a touchpad on the keyboard like you see on some other compact keyboards. Good move!
I'm going to experiment with USB C video adapters to see how it performs as a "desktop" replacement, but I'm really optimistic given how it performs normally. I have a USB C to USB 3 adapter, and it picks up my keyboard and mouse just fine, even through a KVM.
I've been using a Google Pixel phone for a while, so I lost practice with how Samsung does stuff, so it's a bit different to navigate. Not too bad, and this thing does way more and has way more features than I've explored so far.
It connected to my Wi-Fi network easily, has great web page load times, installs apps quickly, and Zen Pinball is super responsive on this.
It feels really light, so it is very easy to hold. It does great as a Kindle reader, although the screen is a bit shiny. They keyboard/case pops off easily but holds securely when it's attached either as a case or as a keyboard.
I was really excited to try it out, so I used it for two days before charging it. I let it run down to 15%, and it was still happily playing pinball. It supports quick charging, so it was back up to 40% in about 15 minutes.
It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. It's an awesome tablet.

I've been using this tablet for a month now. Still five stars. The performance is fantastic, the battery capacity is awesome, the tablet is lightweight and easy to handle, and the keyboard case pops on and off really conveniently. It is awesome that it comes with the pen.
If Samsung is out there reading this -- you gotta come up with a dock or keyboard/mouse/video/Ethernet adapter for it! This thing is a powerhouse, and if I could use it with a fullsize keyboard and monitor it would be a viable laptop replacement. I've been scouring the internet and I can't find anything that displays video while providing power to the tablet.

Do you experience dropped calls, slow internet speeds, or the inability to send and receive texts while you’re on the road or enjoying some time off the beaten path? With the weBoost Drive Reach RV, you can improve your cell signal, wherever your adventures take you. Designed to enhance signal coverage for RVs, campers and trailers, especially in remote areas. The weBoost Drive Reach RV Cellular Signal Booster uses the latest technology to pick up an existing cell signal, route it the booster, then broadcast that amplified signal into your RV. To install the Drive Reach RV, first select where to mount the outside antenna using the provided ladder bracket. This is the most important step as it impacts the overall performance of the booster. Check that the antenna is at least 12 inches from all other antennas and openings to avoid interference. Use the modular mast extensions to ensure the antenna is above any obstructions. Once the outside antenna is installed, run the coax cable behind the weather stripping of an opening, like a door, window, or pop out slide, into your RV. Next, place the inside antenna on a table or countertop near where you plan to use your devices the most. Then run the coax cables to the booster. Plugin both the outside and inside cables. Now, plug in the power cord to the booster. Finally, plug the power cord into your vehicle’s power supply and turn on the booster. When the green light is on, it’s working. All coax cable needed for installation is provided. Stay connected, wherever you choose to explore, with the weBoost Drive Reach RV Cellular Signal Booster!

The power requirements says “plug in”. Plug into what? Does this plug into 120v AC which would require shore power or an inverter or does it plug into 12v DC in an RV? If I t’s 12V what kind of plug?

It comes with an AC power adapter, so you need shore power, inverter, or generator. I bought the 12V adapter for it, which plugs into a lighter socket.

What is the maximum output through the USB cable. Example if I use a hub can I get 1gb Ethernet and two 4k screens @ 60hz plus a keyboard, mouse, and USB 3.0 at regular speeds? Also is there going to be a Samsung DeX or Chromebook OS from MS?

Ethernet, keyboard, and mouse work through the USB C cable, but video does not, so you won't get anything on your monitors.

Is data transferred or synched from my PC to the Duo via the YourPhone app on my PC? If not, how?

It's compatible with cloud syncing on Google Drive, gmail, hotmail, and OneDrive, so you get your data, pics, contacts, calendars, etc. It's also compatible with the YourPhone app so you can resume your browsing session and use text messaging on your PC.

Does the phone give you the option to turn off a display when not in use to conserve battery?

When you have it open like a book, both displays are on. When you have it folded shut, both displays are off. When you have it folded in the open position with both screens on the outside, only one screen stays on. You double-tap to switch screens, but it also seems to respond to how I rotate my wrist. There's only one camera so you have to rotate it between selfie and normal modes.

Do I need a smart phone to be able to use Norton Core?

I'm pretty sure you do; you need the app to set it up and control it. I'm not sure if there's a web interface, but I don't think there is.
