I say this one is just as good as the first one, but the first one is a one of a kind classic! But this one follows very closely in its footsteps! I appreciate the fact that they use the same girl to play Samantha Darko and the plot fits in perfectly with the first film. My wife and I loved it! I definitely recommend seeing Donnie Darko first, if you haven't already, or you may be a bit confused. But, I figure, most people at this point would only be buying this because they've seen the first one. So, if you're reading this and pondering on whether or not to buy it, because you're not sure if it will be as good as the first one. I say, BUY IT!!! You won't be disappointed!
Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a bright and charming high-school student who also has a dark and willfully eccentric side; he does little to mask his contempt for many of his peers and enjoys challenging the authority of the adults around him. Donnie is also visited on occasion by Frank, a monstrous six-foot rabbit that only Donnie can see who often urges him to perform dangerous and destructive pranks. Late one night, Frank leads Donnie out of his home to inform him that the world will come to an end in less than a month; moments later, the engine of a jet aircraft comes crashing through the ceiling of Donnie's room, making him think there might be something to Frank's prophesies after all. The rest of Donnie's world is only marginally less bizarre, as he finds himself dealing with his confused parents (Mary McDonnell and Holmes Osborne), his college-age sister (Maggie Gyllenhaal), his perplexed analyst (Katherine Ross), a rebellious English teacher (Drew Barrymore), a sleazy self-help expert (Patrick Swayze), and the new girl at school who is attracted by Donnie's quirks (Jena Malone). Donnie Darko was the first feature film from writer and director Richard Kelly; Drew Barrymore, who plays teacher Karen Pomeroy, also lent her support to the project as executive producer. A director's cut played in select theaters on a limited basis in the summer of 2004, featuring original music cues and trimmed scenes originally in Kelly's first cut of the film.

This is an amazing movie that everyone should experience! You may even need to watch it a couple of times to understand it. This is a bold and daring film that challenges the subject of space and time manipulation. Even though I recommend this movie to everyone, not everyone will understand it. Everyone I know that has watched it has loved it, but a few had to see it more than once. The only people I've heard of that didn't like it are the ones who didn't understand it. My wife and I have seen it more than once and find it just as thought provoking every time. Also, make sure you get the director's cut so you can see it in its entirety. If you do like this movie, I also recommend S. Darko, the sequel, just as good. I hope you enjoy this amazing film. BUY IT!!!
What's great about it: The plot, the acting, everything!
Brad Anderson's psychological thriller Session 9 comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of the film. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by the director, deleted scenes, an alternate ending, a still photo gallery, and images of the film's storyboards. This is a strong release from Universal that should help the film find a wider audience.

This is a fantastic movie that has gone virtually unnoticed. There's a lot of really good movies that manage to slip through the cracks of the publics eye. This is one of those movies. An extremely twisted and disturbing thriller with some great actors. Keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, and has a great twist at the end. If you've never heard of this movie and are a fan of horror movies and thrillers, you're going to love this. I bought it years ago when it first came out, and I've seen it numerous times since, and it's great every time! If you've never heard of it, it's not a B movie! It has some great actors, such as, David Caruso and Josh Lucas heading the cast. This is a definite must own! Buy it, you won't regret it! My wife and I highly recommend it!

This isn't one of those egde-of-your-seat psychological thrillers, but it's still a very good movie. It keeps you guessing right up to the last scene. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It also has a great twist at the end, and Kate Beckinsale does a terrific job. I gave it four stars instead of five for a couple of reasons. First, even though there's a great twist at the end, it doesn't follow through, (or so I thought.) Also, Alan Alda and David Schwimmer are in it, who my wife and I think are horrible actors and should've had better actors in there place. I'm sorry but, M.A.S.H and Friends, don't exactly qualify you for a movie of this caliber! Without them, I think the movie would've been a bit better. But keep in mind, these are just our opinions. This was still a good crime drama that I certainly recommend.
What's great about it: The fact that it's based on a true story and Kate Beckinsale's acting.
What's not so great: It had a couple bad actors that almost ruined it.

This movie's ok. If you watch it from a comedical stand point, I think you'll like it. My wife and I thought it was a horror movie, that's why I gave it three stars. It's almost like a documentary. The guy walks around with a film crew and tells you when he's getting ready to kill some one. I couldn't tell if this movie was made out of respect for old school slasher films or if they were making fun of them. It's rather cheesy, kind of funny, kind of stupid, but has some good killing scenes. I would recommend watching it just because people's opinions vary, and what I may or may not like, some one else might. But, watch it as a comedy horror not an actual horror. Also, I would only buy this if it was $9.99 or less, or just rent it. It's not really worth watching twice. By the way, mine came in a 3-pack with Re-Animator and Phantasm for $19.99 at Best Buy, which was a pretty good deal I thought.
What's great about it: The killing scenes.
What's not so great: The fact that he tells you when he's about to kill some one.

This was a good movie. I gave it four stars instead of five because of how slow it was. The first hour just drags on almost to the point of losing your interest. In the last half hour, it starts to pick up but it's really confusing. My wife and I were scared it was going to be one of those like Freedomland, where the movie twist and turns and never explains anything. Then at the end, it leaves you feeling cheated, confused and angry as you watch the credits. But, we were relieved to see it all come together with a nice twist at the end. But, don't expect a fast paced thriller like they tease you with in the trailer. That's another reason for the four stars. It's a psychological drama NOT thriller! So, if you watch it with that in mind, I think you'll enjoy it.
Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) is a brilliant medical student who has perfected a green-glowing serum for regenerating life into dead things -- or even parts of dead things. But a corrupt superior, Dr. Carl Hill (David Gale), assumes control of West's experiments and winds up, by ghastly necessity, using the stuff on his own severed head and body. West and in-over-his-head co-worker Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) struggle to control the now out-of-control effects of the serum, but the bone-saws and zombies complicate their plans. Anchor Bay has gone out of their way with this release, delivering a brand new 70-minute featurette as well as multiple audio commentaries, interviews, exhaustive marketing materials, and deleted/extended scenes. The packaging is notable for the regeneration syringe pen, which marks this limited release as the one for collectors to shoot for.

This is one of the greatest horror movies of it's era, and quite possibly of all time! A definite must see for horror movie fans! This is a geniusly made movie. Based on an H.P. Lovecraft tale, directed by Stuart Gordon, and starring Jeffrey Combs, you can't go wrong! This is one of the movies that started the splatter film era of the '80s and early '90s, and is still respected by horror movie lovers across the globe. My wife and I loved it! We also liked the other two sequels that are very good (not as good as this one of course,) but still worth adding to your collection. The other two are directed by Brian Yuzna, the producer of the first one, and star Jeffrey Combs as the great Dr. West. They follow the same story line and pick up right where this one left off. I recommend buying all three, but if you don't have the funds, this one is a definite! Buy it, watch it, enjoy it!!!
What's great about it: The movie, start to finish!
Dr. Herbert West is back, and so are a number of the recently dead in this installment in the Re-Animator series, which gets a simple, but effective, presentation on DVD. Beyond Re-Animator has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1, and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1. The dialogue is in English, with no multiple language options. Bonus materials include a commentary track from director Brian Yuzna, a short documentary on the making of the film, a music video, and the picture's original trailer.

My wife and I loved this movie! It picks up where the second one left off, and takes place after he's been in prison for 13 years. It wasn't as good as the first one, of course, but is still worthy of five stars. I gave the acting four stars only because of Jeffrey Combs (who does a terrific job as usual.) Other than him, I'd probably give the other actors two stars, they should've gotten better actors (and actresses.) But, the special effects are much better than the first two and makes up for the acting. It's directed by Brian Yuzna, who directed the second one and produced the first one. This was a great third installment to the series, (and good sequels are hard to come by.) I love all these movies, I don't want them to end! So, if you're a fan, as my wife and I are, you'll love this one. Buy it!
What's great about it: The special effects!
What's not so great: The actors could've been better.
Loosely adapted from H.P. Lovecraft's Herbert West -- Re-Animator comes this sequel to one of the wildest, bloodiest, and funniest horror films to ever come down the pipe. Set eight months after the gruesome events of the first film, the follow-up opens with the demented Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) continuing to perfect his "re-agent" formula to regenerate dead tissue with the help of his ever-troubled assistant Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott). New characters include suspicious policeman Lt. Chapham (Claude Earl Jones) and Dr. Cain's old flame Francesca (Fabiana Udenio). Returning to Miskatonic Hospital after a short stint in the military, Dr. West and the reluctant, often unwitting, Cain plan to create new life from a patchwork of body parts -- including the heart of Cain's beloved girlfriend. However, things quickly get out of hand thanks to the snooping of Lt. Chapham and the return of the evil decapitated Carl Hill (David Gale) who wants revenge for his beheading. There's also the problem of West's dozens of oddball creations who want out of the dungeon in which they're trapped. It all comes to a head as Cain and West resurrect their "bride" just as Dr. Hill literally flies in to take his vengeance with the help of West's freakish creations.

This is a great follow-up to Re-animator. Of course, it's not quite as good as the first one, but it's worth a five star rating. It wasn't directed by Stuart Gordon, it was directed by Brian Yuzna who was the producer of the first one. Also, it kept most of the actors from the first one, including Jeffrey Combs, (one of my favorites.) The movie came out four years later and is just as twisted as the first one. My wife and I loved it! The four stars I gave it for acting was mostly due to Jeffrey Combs, without him I'd give the acting two or three stars. The other actors could've been better. Other than that, my only complaint is full frame, I don't like full frame!!! Regardless, it was a great movie. If you're a fan of the first one, you'll love this one! Buy it! (By the way, good luck trying to find it in widescreen, I looked everywhere! I think they only made it in full frame.)
What's great about it: Stuck to the plot of the first one.

My wife and I love the Afterdark Horrorfest film collection, we have all three sets. This was one of the worst of the whole collection, in our opinion. The plot was cheesy, they don't really explain anything, and the actress that plays the main character is just terrible. Her role in general was just dumb, she plays the drunk sheriff of the town, and does it poorly. The creature effects are badly computer generated. It's worse than one of those Sci-Fi Channel flicks. (No offense to them, some of their movies are pretty good, just low budget.) All around, this movie was just poorly made. The only reason I didn't give it one star was because of the action, which is also the only reason I finished watching it. If you bought the whole set, as I did, it's just stuck in your collection. (They can't all be winners.) If you're buying them seperately, I'd skip this one. While you're at it, skip Nightmare Man, it was just as bad. All the other ones were great however, buy those.
