Great movie!

This was a great movie with an incredible cast of actors! Tom Cruise may be a complete nut in real life, but he's still among the elite actors of this generation. He does a terrific job in this movie. Obviously, they don't kill Hitler, we all know that from history. But, this film does a great job of showing you the behind-the-scenes conspiracy attempts on Hitler by many of the people that served under him. This movie goes to show that just because someone was a N*zi in WWII, doesn't mean they agreed with what Hitler and many of the other SS soldiers were doing. This movie really does make a statement. There are many Americans who still tend to label all Germans as N*zis and murders. Those same people pointing fingers are usually the same ones driving around in VWs and Mercedes. Not all Germans were %100 behind Hitler. So, I highly recommend this movie, not only because it's a great action/ thriller, but because it gives you a different perspective on WWII and the N*zi army. If you like this, I also recommend Schindler's List and The Reader. (Also, I appologize, but apparently 'N*zi' is considered profanity, which proves my point earlier.)
What's great about it: The plot, the acting, everything!
What's not so great: Nothing!

Christine Taylor, Jerry O'Connell. This graphic shocker depicts a nightmarish world of demons running rampant and lesbian blood rites at the mysterious St. Rosemary's Hospital where Amy must confront her deepest fears when her boyfriend is taken there after a near-fatal auto wreck. 2006/color/94 min/NR.

Decent movie.

This movie had great potential, but kind of spun out of control. Don't get me wrong, I may have to watch it again to 'get it'. My wife and I watched it and found it very intriguing right up to the end, which left us scratching our heads. There were a lot of things left unexplained and was rather open ended. But, the acting was decent and I feel it's worth watching. Maybe you'll understand it. It does have some good scenes. Also, I recommend Darkroom, done by the same writers and same director. We thought this one was much better than Room 6. I say buy both and make your own decision.
What's great about it: Good plot.
What's not so great: Rather confusing and has a terrible ending.

New Line does its usual good job on this DVD, though it's a bit disappointing compared to some of their other discs. The main problem is the picture; it's very good, but not up to the level of many of their other titles. The biggest problem is the black level, which is filled with a consistent off-shading that looks blocky; since much of this film takes place at night, it becomes even more evident. Beyond that, the picture is quite solid. The disc includes both the 2.35:1 widescreen and a pan-and-scan version, with both on the same side of the disc. As would be expected from New Line, the widescreen version is an anamorphic transfer. The sound on this disc is also very good, though also not without its problems. There is good use of the surround speakers, especially during storms, and the dialogue is centered up front. However, the sound level seems to change without reason throughout the film, making frequent volume adjustments necessary. Extras on this disc are a bit light, though a scene-specific commentary track (taken from the previous laserdisc edition) with director John Carpenter and his director of photography Gary B. Kibbe is included. Carpenter is always interesting and his love of filmmaking shines through at all times. One thing can be said about this track: if you want to know how to light a movie, then Kibbe will tell you. Lighting questions are about the only thing Carpenter asks him, so unless viewers are very technically minded, they will probably be bored with what Kibbe has to say. Beyond that, the disc has the obligatory trailer and filmographies.

Great horror movie!

This is one of my favorite John Carpenter films! My wife and I love this movie. I actually bought this movie when it first came out on VHS like 15 years ago. And of course, I bought it again on DVD after getting rid of all my VHSs and making the transition to DVD. Obviously, I've been collecting for many years. My wife and I currently have around 2,000 DVDs and always growing. (As you know, if you've read any of my other reviews.) This remains one of my all time favorites. It never gets old. I put it right up there with The Thing and Halloween as John Carpenters best. Also, I thought Sam Neill did a terrific job. This movie is very twisted and trippy. If you've never seen it, it's a classic must see horror film! It's a definite must have for any horror movie collector. Buy it!!!
What's great about it: The plot, the acting, everything!
What's not so great: Couldn't find anything.

Get the director's cut!!!
on May 21, 2009

I'm writing this review for two reasons. First, I want to promote Murder Set Pieces the director's cut, which I give five stars!!! Second, I want to discourage people from buying the 'R' version, which I gave two stars and do NOT recommend because of how cut up it was. This was one of the most expensive independent films ever made, somewhere around $2 million. This movie is amazing and deserves to be watched the way it was intended. If you've read any of my reviews, you know that I'm a hardcore movie collector, and there's one thing I despise, that is cut or censored movies!!! Why take a movie that's unrated in full length and intended for adults and cut it up and reduce the rating to 'R', which is for adults?! It doesn't make sense and I'll never understand! Never buy a cut movie! You're only cheating yourself. ALWAYS buy the full length, unrated, director's cuts of films. I highly recommend the full length version of this film, which unfortunately is not available through Best Buy. I do NOT recommend this version of the film!
What's great about it: It's an amazing movie!
What's not so great: This version is too cut up to enjoy!

A one of a kind movie!

As a movie collector, this is one of my all time favorites. I've seen it many times and it gets better every time. However, this movie's not for everyone. If you've ever seen Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, or any other David Lynch film, then you'll understand and respect this film. If you're not familiar with his work, it's very artistic and brilliant. Some people find this film somewhat confusing, even I did the first time. It's the kind of movie you have to watch more than once to understand and appreciate its complexity and artistic value. If you're not familiar with David Lynch or any of his movies, the closest films I can compare it to would be Donnie Darko and S. Darko. If you haven't seen those, then you just need to buy all three, because you're missing out on some amazing movies. Lost Highway is a one of a kind classic! Even the soundtrack was great, it was produced by Trent Reznor (NIN.) I highly recommend this movie! Once you watch it, you'll be thinking about it for days, and you'll probably want to watch it again! BUY IT!!!

This was a great movie, my wife and I loved it! Definitely the best of the Ghosthouse Underground series. This movie was actually a sequel, which I didn't find out til afterwards. So, even if you haven't seen the first one, it won't make any difference, atleast we could't tell. This film was very unique and intriguing. A lot of fun to watch. If you're interested in the Ghosthouse Underground movies, this should be the first one you buy. Another one I recommend is Dark Floors.
What's great about it: Very imaginative.

I wrote a privious review under the regular copy, if you want to read it. I'm writing this review specifically for the special edition, which my wife and I own. I recommend this copy over the other copy for the extened version of the film and the special features. If you're an X-Files nut, as my wife and I are, you'll want this copy. If you're not that big of a fan and just curious about the movie, read my other review and maybe you'll want to get the other one. I hope this and my other review were helpful. I highly recommend this movie in general.
What's great about it: The special edition.
What's not so great: This movie was underappreciated!

Excellent movie!!!

First of all, my wife and I are huge movie collectors. We currently own around 2,000 DVDs, including the entire X-Files boxed set with every episode and the first movie. I'm not bragging, just showing some credibility. My wife and I HUGE X-Files fans! We watched this in the theater and again on DVD, and I'm sorry, but we can't figure out why so many people were dissing this movie. All I can think of, is that people set thier expectations too high. I don't know what they were expecting, more about UFOs maybe? I don't know. This makes me think about the last Indiana Jones movie (the Crystal Skull.) People just ripped that apart, and again, my wife and I couldn't figure out why, we loved it. I just think that people set thier sites so high for a sequel of this caliber, and when it doesn't meet their standards, they get all bent out of shape! If you like the X-Files or even if you don't, I still recommend this movie. But, ignore the hype, don't expect the movie-of-the-century, relax, and just enjoy the film for what it is. This is a really good film and deserves to be appreciated. So, if you haven't seen it, watch it with a clear head and make your own judgement. If you don't like it, I'm sorry. If you do enjoy it, as we did, then you 'll understand what I'm talking about. I highly recommend it!
What's great about it: It was great to see Scully and Mulder again.
What's not so great: This movie was underappreciated!

Lion's Gate Home Entertainment delivers one big wallop of a package for Eli Roth's love-it-or-hate-it splatter epic, Cabin Fever. Forgoing the usual over-hyped two-disc "special" editions out there, this lean one disc delivers the all the bloody goods (and then some) for all of you aficionados in DVD-land. As far as extras go, the first thing you have to mention is the five feature-length audio commentaries. Considering how many companies skimped out and just edited together multiple commentary tracks during this time, you have to respect this disc for throwing it all on the line and including all five -- each of which is immensely entertaining. The madness begins with Roth's solo track, which is a doozy! His commentary is never boring and abounds with Tarantino-like references -- the director comes across as exactly the type of hilarious horror geek that the film's hype made him out to be. It's perfect, then, that he's the moderator for the rest of the tracks, including one with the guys in the cast, another with the girls, one that consists of him and members of the crew, and, finally, one just with Boy Meets World star Rider Strong (who, as the DVD put it, talked so much they had to move him to his own track). Amazingly, none of it feels like filler, and with so many moments of brilliance (Roth's call to his old N.Y.U. film professor is genius), the five tracks add to up hours of entertainment for those brave enough for the task. If you hop on over to the special features, there's more fun waiting for you, starting with a brand-new cut of the film called the Family Version (great for a laugh or two), while the Chick-Vision feature blocks the image whenever something frightening is about to happen -- a neat (albeit throwaway) idea that more or less just adds another silly bonus to the list of features. For those behind-the-scenes lovers out there, head straight to the "Beneath the Skin" documentary. Clocking in at 30 minutes, the featurette contains on-set footage and numerous interviews that show off the relaxed set and detail some of the smaller production elements that weren't covered quite as much in the commentaries (though don't be surprised if there's some overlapping information). The Pancakes special feature shows more of Matthew Helms' outrageous kung fu abilities (further proof that Roth needs to shoot an action flick starring the young blonde one very soon), while the Rotten Fruit section has three segments from the hilarious gore-filled stop-motion series created by Roth and Noah Belson. Technically, picture quality is superb and the disc's 5.1 Dolby Surround track (along with the standard stereo track) is equally fantastic, creating depth in the darkest reaches of the score and atmospheric sound mix. All in all, it's a disc worth shouting about, and one that will keep you busy for a long time to come. Also released in a Limited Edition featuring a holographic slipcover.

Excellent movie!!!

This is Eli Roth's first full length film, and it's a success! My wife and I loved every minute of it! It's even loaded with special features, like some Rotten Fruit skits which are hilarious! This movie is a perfect mixture of intrigue, gore, and humor. I here there's a sequel coming in late 2009 or early 2010 called Spring Fever, (I'm looking forward to that.) This movie is reminiscent of the 80's gore flicks, like Dead Alive. So, if you like those movies or even newer movies, like Hostel 1 and 2, then you'll love this film. I highly recommend it. BUY IT!!!
What's great about it: The movie, start to finish!

New Zealand's Peter Jackson is known for his skewed, gross-out films. Dead Alive is probably the grossest film he's made, but it's also the funniest, and the unrated, widescreen presentation on this DVD is a sick, hilarious treat. The video quality is superb. The widescreen transfer is clean and colorful. Jackson's steadicam trickery is allowed to make its maximum effect; the camera zips around every nook and cranny of the stylish settings. Colors do seem a bit muted at times, but this only adds to the clean-cut look of the more sedate scenes. The cookie-cutter look contrasts quite fiercely with the graphic mishmash in other sections of the film. Buckets of blood and comic dismemberments shockingly spill off the screen, and the digital transfer never hampers the horror. The digitally mastered sound fits the visuals to a tee. It's a startling, unusual vision done justice by DVD. As far as supplemental material, the package is lacking. A scene index and a theatrical trailer are the only bonus features. The scene index is split into six screens, allowing instant access to 24 chapters (displayed in full-motion video thumbnails). The theatrical trailer is a full-frame, amusing affair that will either win over uninitiated viewers or turn their stomachs. Dead Alive is a disturbing comic gem, given a respectful, yet bare-bones transfer to DVD.

This is a classic film by Peter Jackson. My wife and I loved it! It's actually rated as one of the goriest movies ever made! If you like movies such as, The Evil Dead series, A Cat in the Brain, Cabin Fever, or pretty much any zombie movie, then you'll love this film. If you don't like gore flicks, then why are you even reading this?! I feel this is a must own for horror movie lovers. It's more like a horror comedy, really gory and really funny. I highly recommend this movie. Your horror movie collection isn't complete without this film. Period!
What's great about it: One of the goriest movies I've ever seen!
What's not so great: The acting was a bit cheesy.
