Dr. Herbert West is back, and so are a number of the recently dead in this installment in the Re-Animator series, which gets a simple, but effective, presentation on DVD. Beyond Re-Animator has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1, and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1. The dialogue is in English, with no multiple language options. Bonus materials include a commentary track from director Brian Yuzna, a short documentary on the making of the film, a music video, and the picture's original trailer.

My wife and I loved this movie! It picks up where the second one left off, and takes place after he's been in prison for 13 years. It wasn't as good as the first one, of course, but is still worthy of five stars. I gave the acting four stars only because of Jeffrey Combs (who does a terrific job as usual.) Other than him, I'd probably give the other actors two stars, they should've gotten better actors (and actresses.) But, the special effects are much better than the first two and makes up for the acting. It's directed by Brian Yuzna, who directed the second one and produced the first one. This was a great third installment to the series, (and good sequels are hard to come by.) I love all these movies, I don't want them to end! So, if you're a fan, as my wife and I are, you'll love this one. Buy it!
What's great about it: The special effects!
What's not so great: The actors could've been better.
Loosely adapted from H.P. Lovecraft's Herbert West -- Re-Animator comes this sequel to one of the wildest, bloodiest, and funniest horror films to ever come down the pipe. Set eight months after the gruesome events of the first film, the follow-up opens with the demented Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) continuing to perfect his "re-agent" formula to regenerate dead tissue with the help of his ever-troubled assistant Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott). New characters include suspicious policeman Lt. Chapham (Claude Earl Jones) and Dr. Cain's old flame Francesca (Fabiana Udenio). Returning to Miskatonic Hospital after a short stint in the military, Dr. West and the reluctant, often unwitting, Cain plan to create new life from a patchwork of body parts -- including the heart of Cain's beloved girlfriend. However, things quickly get out of hand thanks to the snooping of Lt. Chapham and the return of the evil decapitated Carl Hill (David Gale) who wants revenge for his beheading. There's also the problem of West's dozens of oddball creations who want out of the dungeon in which they're trapped. It all comes to a head as Cain and West resurrect their "bride" just as Dr. Hill literally flies in to take his vengeance with the help of West's freakish creations.

This is a great follow-up to Re-animator. Of course, it's not quite as good as the first one, but it's worth a five star rating. It wasn't directed by Stuart Gordon, it was directed by Brian Yuzna who was the producer of the first one. Also, it kept most of the actors from the first one, including Jeffrey Combs, (one of my favorites.) The movie came out four years later and is just as twisted as the first one. My wife and I loved it! The four stars I gave it for acting was mostly due to Jeffrey Combs, without him I'd give the acting two or three stars. The other actors could've been better. Other than that, my only complaint is full frame, I don't like full frame!!! Regardless, it was a great movie. If you're a fan of the first one, you'll love this one! Buy it! (By the way, good luck trying to find it in widescreen, I looked everywhere! I think they only made it in full frame.)
What's great about it: Stuck to the plot of the first one.

My wife and I love the Afterdark Horrorfest film collection, we have all three sets. This was one of the worst of the whole collection, in our opinion. The plot was cheesy, they don't really explain anything, and the actress that plays the main character is just terrible. Her role in general was just dumb, she plays the drunk sheriff of the town, and does it poorly. The creature effects are badly computer generated. It's worse than one of those Sci-Fi Channel flicks. (No offense to them, some of their movies are pretty good, just low budget.) All around, this movie was just poorly made. The only reason I didn't give it one star was because of the action, which is also the only reason I finished watching it. If you bought the whole set, as I did, it's just stuck in your collection. (They can't all be winners.) If you're buying them seperately, I'd skip this one. While you're at it, skip Nightmare Man, it was just as bad. All the other ones were great however, buy those.

This movie was excellent! One of the best from the third set. My wife and I love horror movies. I myself love zombie movies, where as my wife doesn't care too much for them unless they're fast paced, (she doesn't like the ones that walk so slow you can run circles around.) But she really liked this one, as I did. The plot is fantastic, it's a real twist on the zombie genre. In fact, this movie is similar to 28 Days Later. They're not actually dead, it's like they're rabid. It's really good, you'll just have to see it. (I don't want to spoil it for you.) This movie was very intense and kept us on the edge of our seats. So, if you like a good zombie flick, (or even if you don't, as my wife doesn't,) I think you'll really enjoy this film. Buy it!
What's great about it: Fast paced and intense!
What's not so great: There are basically no DVD extras.

This movie was much better than my wife and I expected. We have all three set of the Afterdark Horrorfest films, we love 'em! Of course the plots cheesy, as it is with most slasher films, but it's how they go about it that makes it fun. This movie had lots of action and gore and was entertaining to watch. So, if you love a good slasher film, I think you'll like this one. Buy it!

My wife and I are huge horror movie collectors. We have all three sets of the Aterdark Horrorfest films. This was one of our favorites. It does have kind of a weak ending, but the overall movie was great. It's a classic haunting movie with some really creepy scenes. Also, it has some prominent actors in it. Because most of the Afterdark films are considered 'low budget', many of them don't have prominent actors like this one does. So, if you're in the mood for a good jumpy scary movie, I think you'll enjoy this film. Buy it!
What's great about it: Really creepy!
What's not so great: The ending could have been better.

The movie was actually a lot better than my wife and I thought. We have the whole set and held off on this one because we didn't think it would be that great. We were wrong! This movie has a great twist at the end that's a shocker. I'm not going to spoil it, but I will say, it's a different take on the subject. You just need to see this for yourself. Buy it!

If you're a horror movie fan, you'll love these films. My wife and I are huge movie collectors and horror movie lovers. We actually have all three sets, including two extras. They say '8 films to die for' but in the first two sets there's actually 9. So, if you buy this set, also look for Frontier(s), (and Captivity, which was part of the first set.) Now, my over all rating was five stars for the set as a whole, which I recommend unless they're individually on sale for under $14.99. I've seen all of them and thought most of them were great, with the exception of two I personally didn't like. (But some one else might.) Some of them are low budget films, but a lot of really good horror movies are low budget films. I've written reviews about individual movies from all three sets including a review about the third set as a whole, if you want to check those out. (Just click 'read my reviews'.) I did this because some people just buy a couple at a time, and I respect that. I hope this and my other reviews are useful.
What's great about it: Great for the price.
What's not so great: There are basically no DVD extras.

If you're a fan of the Afterdark Horrorfest films, then you'll love the new series. My wife and I are huge fans, we have all 26. (And no, I didn't add wrong. They say '8 films to die for' but the first two series technically had 9, some people don't know that.) Buying them in the pack is worth the price, unless they are individually on sale for under $14.99. But, whether you buy them in the pack or seperately, this series is the best. I'm not taking away from the other series, it's just that, in the other series it was kind of hit or miss. One would be really good, one would terrible and some were just ok. But, so far in this series, my wife and I have seen 7 out of 8, and they were all good. That's why I wrote this review about the whole set, it's because the whole set is worth owning.(In my opinion.) Also, I've written individual reviews about movies in this series and the other two series, if you want to check those out. Some people just want to buy a couple at a time, and I respect that. (Click, other reviews buy this person.) I hope this and my other reviews have been useful.
What's great about it: Everything!
What's not so great: There are basically no DVD extras.

I don't know how anyone could not like this movie. My wife and I thought it was incredible! It's a powerful drama that grips you from start to finish. Kate Winslet, Ralph Fiennes(one of my personal favorites,) David Kross, Lena Olin, etc., the acting was supurb across the board. This film has a very deep, emotional and controversial plot. My only negative comment is that it's not the 'provocative thriller' they claim it to be on the cover. I would say powerful drama, thriller is not acurate. Otherwise, I would definitely buy this movie, it's worth watching more than once.
What's great about it: The movie, start to finish!
