Jacob's Ladder was released on DVD by Artisan in 1998 as a "special edition." The anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen transfer still shows some age and the Dolby Digital soundtrack is adequate, but Jacob's Ladder is not about state-of-the-art picture and sound; it is about the story. The commentary focuses on the small touches and changes that Adrian Lyne's involvement brought to the film. It's not bad as director commentaries go, but Artisan unfortunately did not consider including writer Bruce Joel Rubin on the track. Rubin comments plenty during the documentary, which seems like it was made at the time of the film, either for cable or a laserdisc release. The story behind Rubin's script is fascinating, the documentary thankfully focusing less on promoting the film and more on gaining a deeper understanding of it. The three deleted scenes are all valuable extensions of the story that were cut to streamline the narrative. They are presented with the choice of director commentary, but Lyne doesn't really go into specifics on the decision not to include them in the film. A trailer, a television spot, cast lists, and production information round things out. This isn't a flawless presentation of the film, but Artisan's commitment to "special edition" DVD makes the disc worthwhile.

This an amazing psychological thriller, one of my wife and I's favorites! This is a very twisted movie that has to be watched more than once to fully understand and appreciate it. If you've never seen it, this is a must own movie! It'll have you on the edge of your seat right up to the last frame. I highly recommend it! Also, another similar film I highly recommend is Angel Heart, with Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro.
What's great about it: Very intriguing and disturbing with a great twist at the end.
Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece of suspense and horror gets a highly respectable release on DVD in this Collector's Edition. The quality of the 1.85:1 widescreen transfer is superb, and though the print shows some signs of age, the overall effect is that one is viewing moving, high-contrast, black-and-white photographs. The audio is also first-rate. Bernard Herrman's sinister, punishing score is scarier than ever here. All in all it's a technically masterful digital presentation; the movie has never seemed more chilling. The bonus materials are enlightening and thorough. The "Making of Psycho" documentary is one-and-a-half hours of juicy behind-the-scenes nuggets. Interviews with Janet Leigh, writer Joseph Stephano, and other cast and crew members are edited together with scenes from the movie for a historical, entertaining look at the modern classic. The theatrical trailer is nearly seven minutes in length; it's the tongue-in-cheek, bizarre, and now quite famous tour of the Bates Motel, with Hitchcock as the tour guide. "Production Notes" and "Cast & Filmmakers" provide the usual static images, brief biographies, talent filmographies, and movie trivia information. This Collector's Edition DVD of Psycho consistently stuns and shocks, allowing the full impact of Hitchcock's creepy opus to unnerve and distress future generations of unsuspecting viewers.

This is one of the best remakes I've ever seen, my wife and I love it! This film is intentionally done exactly frame-for-frame as the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock version, (aside from a few modern day upgrades). Vince Vaughn is fantastic as Norman Bates. Also starring William H. Macy, Anne Heche, and Julianne Moore. If you're a fan of the old psycho, you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend it! Another film I recommend with Vince Vaughn playing the role of a killer is Clay Pigeons.
What's great about it: Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates.
Alan Parker's Angel Heart has built a cult following, and this Special Edition DVD of the film from Lion's Gate will easily satisfy that audience. The film itself is presented in its original widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack does a fine job of presenting the original material. The copious supplemental materials include a feature-length commentary recorded by Alan Parker. He comments at great length on the performers and is full of anecdotal information about the making of the film, although he occasionally lapses into silence, saying he has not watched the film for quite some time. A scene-specific commentary by Mickey Rourke reveals that he did almost no research for the part and agreed to do it mostly because he admired Parker's Midnight Express. A handful of featurettes on voodoo, an introduction by Parker, an interview with Rourke in which he discusses his entire career (while holding onto his pet dog), and making-of featurettes created at the time of the original production all add flavor to this solid release.

This is a great movie, one of my wife and I's favorites! This film has gone virtually unnoticed for over 20 years, (except to the small group of movie buffs like us). Starring two of todays top actors Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro, this psychological thriller will keep you guessing all the way to the end. This movie gets better every time I watch it! I highly recommend it! Also, some other similar movies I recommend are Devil's Advocate, Jacob's Ladder, and The Jacket.
What's great about it: Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro.

This was a really good movie, my wife and I loved! The plot is very twisted and keeps you guessing right up to the end. It was directed by Adam Green (Hatchet) and stars Joel David Moore (also in Hatchet). If you're a fan of psychological thrillers like Secret Window and Identity, then I think you'll like this movie. I highly recommend it! Also, some other similar movies I recommend are Trauma, Session 9, and The Machinist.

This was a great movie, my wife and I loved it! It was actually much better than we thought it would be. It has a very intriguing plot with a great twist at the end. I highly recommend it! Some similar films I also recommend are Spiral, Session 9, Angel Heart, and High Tension.
What's great about it: Very twisted with a great twist at the end.

This was a great slasher film, my wife and I loved it! We're fans of the WWE, so it was nice to see Kane in a horror movie. The plot is somewhat predictable, as with most slasher films. It's how they go about it that makes it fun. Another psycho-religious mother turns her son into a serial killer, as they usually do. Kane, at 7 feet tall and about 330 lbs., makes a formidable serial killer. In fact, I don't think he said but two words through the whole movie. All around, this film was very entertaining. I highly recommend it! Also, some other good slasher films I recommend are Laid to Rest, Seed, Midnight Movie, Black X-mas, Reeker, and No Man's Land: Rise of the Reeker.

My wife and I watched this and didn't like it. First of all, we have the film Ed Gein which is more accurate to the real story. It could pass for a documentary. Second, they butchered the real story of Ed Gein, (no pun intended). Kane Hodder, which was good in the Friday the 13th films when he played Jason, plays Ed Gein, but is twice the size of the real Ed Gein. Also, he kills like a dozen or so people in the film. The real Ed Gein only killed 2-4 people. This was just another slasher film LOOSELY based on Ed Gein. (And a 'B' version at that.) If you want to see the real story of Ed Gein that inspired the killers in such films as Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho, and Silence of the Lambs, then I recommend watching Ed Gein (with Steve Railsback). Not this one!
What's great about it: Kane Hodder.
What's not so great: Steers too far from the real story, bad acting.

My wife and I love these movies! My wife and I have always had an interest in serial killers and criminal psychology, and have several books and documentaries on the subject. All four films are very accurate and stick to the facts of the real events. The only one I thought that could've been better was Dahmer. They only showed the young Dahmer, they could've gone more indepth into his older years, how he got caught, the aftermath, etc. But it was still good. The other three Ted Bundy, Ed Gein, and Gacy, are almost word-for-word on the real characters and could practically be documentaries. Other people have tried to do movies based on these and other serial killers, but tend to go overboard and take away from the real story. Namely Gein that starred Kane Hodder (Jason in Friday the 13th), which was a knockoff of Ed Gein in this set. First of all, Hodder is twice the size of the real Ed Gein. Second, he kills like a dozen people in the movie. The real Ed Gein only killed 2-4 people. So, now you know what I mean by going overboard. They make them to Hollywood-ish. If you want to hear the real stories of these serial killers, I highly recommend this set. Also, some other good real serial killer movies that tell the story like it is are Helter Skelter, Monster, Night Stalker, and Zodiac (the new version, not the 'B' movie knockoff).

This is a great horror movie, my wife and I love it!!! The plot is very indepth and very intriguing. It's a haunting movie mixed with a possession movie, rather unique. This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat with plenty of creepy and jumpy scenes. My wife and I saw it in the theater and again on DVD, the unrated cut. It was great both times! I highly recommend it! Also, some other good horror movies to come out recently are The Uninvited, The Eye, House, From Within, and Martyrs.
What's great about it: Very creepy and very intense, geat special effects.

This was a great holiday film, my wife and I loved it! We personally don't like X-mas, we think it's overrated and all about shopping. So, when films like this and Bad Santa come out, it gives us something to look forward to other than another cheesy dime-a-dozen Disney X-mas movie. This was a great remake of a classic old school slasher film. The plot is very similar to that of Halloween. So, if you're a fan of slasher films with lots of killing and lots of gore, I highly recommend it! Also, some other good slasher films to come out recently are Laid to Rest, Halloween (new version), My Bloody Valentine (new version in 3-D), Friday the 13th (new version), and The Last House on the Left (new version).
