RAVAGE plays Old School Heavy Metal that is NOW!
on October 26, 2009

Ravage takes some of their Heavy Metal nfluences of decades past and incorporates their legendary styles with their very own on "The End Of Tomorrow". The cover song of the Judas Priest classic - Nightcrawler, is pure Metal delight to my ears! A cover song that is well done by Ravage. The vocals are a combination of early Rob Halford, (Judas Priest), meets Paul DiAnno, (early Iron Maiden), with a healthy slice of originality as well. The musicianship is genuine quality, a mix of Old School Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal and Speed Metal makes "The End Of Tomorrow" a solid winner for me in 2009. The lyrics are cool and at times thought provoking. There are enough riffs, leads and solos to make the Metal guitar enthusiast ecstatic. The liner notes are top tier, with complete lyrics and very cool graphics and band photos. I without hesitation, recommend "The End Of Tomorrow" to any and/or all Old School Heavy Metal fans and fans of all things Heavy Metal too! There truly is no risk with this Ravage purchase... it is that good.
What's great about it: All 12 songs are quality Heavy Metal - musicianship and not over produced
What's not so great: Cannot find anything to complain about - really.

Ace Frehley is a guitar legend, album is a Classic
on September 12, 2009

"New York Groove" is the hit cover song that this album is famous for... the other 8 songs Rock Hard just fine! "Rip It Out" and "Speedin' Back To My Baby" kick start this Ace Frehley solo album perfectly. "Snow Blind" has always been another favorite of mine from this classic album. I always turn to this album for a more than frequent listen. Even after all of these years, the groove infested, Hard Rock songs that Ace Frehley delivered on this solo album, are as strong and cool sounding as they were back in 1978! This album also shows how great and cool of a singer Ace Frehley truly is, besides being a legendary Hard Rock/Heavy Metal guitarist. I strongly recommend this album to anyone interested in superb Classic Rock!
What's great about it: Ace Frehley on guitar and vocals, "Rip It Out" leads the Hard Rocking pack of songs
What's not so great: No Complaints

Vintage Heavy Metal album from Dokken!
on September 12, 2009

"The Hunter", "In My Dreams" and "It's Not Love" are the surefire hits, my favorites as well, yet every song is a winner on this album. Don Dokken sings his heart out on "Under Lock And Key", with George Lynch on lead guitar being just unreal great. I am a Dokken fan sure, still I would not recommend anything I like just for the sake of it... this album has the great '80's Heavy Metal sound and feel seeping from every crevice! Dokken will either pump you up or make you feel good, in other words, this is one Dokken album to buy and enjoy for a very long time! 1980's Heavy Metal fans must own this, new fans of Dokken too. Guitar fans will be quite impressed with George Lynch on this album. This truly is a Dokken album and Heavy Metal sound that has stood the test of time.
What's great about it: Don Dokken on vocals, George Lynch on lead guitar, cool songs all

KISS brings the melodic Heavy Metal aplenty!
on August 15, 2009

I revere KISS, yet out of the entire KISS catalog of albums, "Animalize" is very, very, commercial with the Heavy Metal "sound" throughout. Do not get me wrong, these songs are cool, 1980's Heavy Metal from KISS. These songs are memorable, "Animalize" is worth adding to your KISS collection or 1980's Heavy Metal collection of music, no doubt. I am not regretting buying this CD, I listen to "Animalize" without question. Of course, my favorite song is "Heaven's On Fire"... since the '80's I cannot seem to get this song out of my system. This is not the strongest KISS album ever, still, it is KISS and their brand of Heavy Metal from the '80's that is still worth owning. In a Heavy Metal nutshell, this KISS album, I will admit, can still get me psyched up and feeling darn good.
Not that it matters much... I never could take a liking to the front album cover artwork... this makes no difference to the Heavy Metal of KISS found within, of course.
What's great about it: Good 1980's Heavy Metal songs... it is KISS! 1980's KISS that is.
What's not so great: Compared to "Creatures of the Night" and 1970's KISS, "Animalize" is good, not great.

Cheap Trick "The Latest" is their latest classic!
on August 15, 2009

Yes, I am a life long Cheap Trick fan, however, this is as good as it gets with their Rock music. Every song is so memorable, the music and lyrics are incredibly written. "Sleep Forever" is a tear jerker for me, very somber, short song, with deep meaning. After "Sleep Forever"... it is time to Rock like there is no tomorrow... with Cheap Trick! Their Rock brand, flavor and fire will never go away... simply a must buy for all Cheap Trick and Classic Rock fans! New Cheap Trick fans have to jump onto "The Latest"!
What's great about it: Cheap Trick the band. Every single song. Every lyric.
What's not so great: Impossible to find a flaw with Cheap Trick or "The Latest"

A great Heavy Metal album, awesome songs!

Dee Snider put together a fine group of musicians here to make a fabulous Heavy Metal album - these songs simply rock the roof apart. Track 1 is an excellent tribute song to the legendary Motorhead founder and bass guitarist/vocalist - Lemmy Kilmister - a great song. From start to finish, this album is proof positive, Heavy Metal. No filler tunes to be found on this one! The cover song of "The Wanderer" is unreal... I find this to be super catchy and a tune I hit the repeat play button for constantly. Dee Snider on lead vocals is nothing short of excellent - he brings the Heavy Metal the only way he knows how... with powerful conviction and integrity.
All Heavy Metal fans and especially Twisted Sister fans should get quite the kick out of this album... do not be surprised if you wind up listening to this album constantly, it is that good. I most highly recommend to all!
What's great about it: Dee Snider on lead vocals, great Heavy Metal songs, pumped up tunes!
What's not so great: Absolutely NO Complaints.

Iron Maiden "Flight 666" is on take off for Metal!
on June 10, 2009
Posted by: Fiend
from Pennsylvania
"Flight 666" from Iron Maiden is a MUST buy for all Metal and Iron Maiden fans. Simply put, this double live CD sounds great, with quality production all over it. The song selection stems from the debut Iron Maiden album up to the "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" album. 17 Iron Maiden classics in all! My favorite Iron Maiden track is "Revelations", yet "Rhime Of The Ancient Mariner" is a true epic Iron Maiden classic lasting nearly 14 minutes... a must tune that I'm glad was added to this CD. You will be amazed at the triple guitar attack, layered in all the Progressive Metal glory that is Iron Maiden. Deeper album cuts like "Moonchild" and the often overlooked "Fear Of The Dark" are also on this live CD. Bruce Dickinson on lead vocals sounds better than ever... same can be said for each member of Iron Maiden here. I highly recommend "Flight 666" to all fans of any Metal genre, Iron Maiden is truly in a Metal class all of their own.
The liner notes are excellent, with 16 pages of full color concert photos, capturing Iron Maiden live. A 2 page introduction to "Flight 666" written by Iron Maiden bass guitarist Steve Harris, starts off the liner notes in a cool way. Song credits, more credits and thank yous are also found in the liner notes. There are no lyrics in the liner notes.
What's great about it: 2 CD's, great song selection spanning entire career, great sound & quality!
What's not so great: Absolutely NO complaints!

A true Classic! Danzig is a Heavy Metal gem!
on May 31, 2009

This is a Heavy Metal album that belongs in every Metal fans collection. Honestly, this is a real classic... Glenn Danzig on vocals makes for the unique lesson in Heavy Metal listening. "She Rides" is a cool, foot stomping Metal tune that is very catchy for my ears. "Twist of Cain" is a very heavy opening track that paves the way of Heavy Metal greatness for this debut album from Danzig. "End of Time" is a spooky and melancholy tune that is heavy, yet as are all the songs on this album... loaded with enough grooves to make you hit the "repeat play" button numerous times. "Mother" was the big hit off of this album years ago... it is the spontaneous vocal delivery from Danzig, that makes this song sound so unreal for me. I highly recommend "Danzig" to ALL Heavy Metal fans of ANY Metal genre! I am very pleased that I finally have this "Danzig" CD in my collection - after owning the vinyl for so many years. No fan of Heavy Metal could ever possibly be disappointed by this debut from Danzig... I have always considered this a true Heavy Metal gem.
What's great about it: Glenn Danzig on vocals, musicianship, lyrics, every song!
What's not so great: Absolutely NO complaints!

Manowar "Hail to England" is vintage Heavy Metal
on May 31, 2009

If you are hungry for some Old School Heavy Metal, well, you have found it with Manowar "Hail to England" - the songs are flavored with the 1980's sound of Heavy Metal. To categorize the genre... in my opinion this is cool Power Metal. I find this album to be very heavy, loud and memorable. I have a hard time ever saying this sound is dated... Manowar rocks just as great now as they did in 1984! Great guitar leads, riffs and solos throughout. I bought this CD for I never owned it back in the '80's... what was I thinking? I wish I did own it way back then! Fans of Heavy Metal from the '80's and Heavy Metal fans of quality Metal will find this CD addicting. Not a lousy tune on this CD... in my opinion. I definitely recommend Manowar "Hail to England" to all.

Powerful Black Metal combined with heavy grooves!
on May 4, 2009

Satyricon "The Age of Nero" is a solid blast of Black Metal. Each song is it's own star on this album. Satyr has accomplished a great album by not overstating on the traditional Black Metal themes, for example, "Commando" is the opening track and lyrically depicts war. "The Wolfpack" is my choice for favorite tune, the heavy & steady groove that goes on here is addicting for me to hear. "Black Crow On A Tombstone" is similiar to "The Wolfpack", with it's heavy laden guitar and drumming, the continuous Black Metal groove makes this track a must listen. "Die By My Hand" is the creepy and dark tune that I find catchy and entertaining - the eerie chorus only deepens the dark mood and ambience of this song. Listening to Satyr on vocals alone is worth picking up this album. Just listening carefully and tuning into Frost on drums is another valid reason to buy "The Age of Nero" as well. Overall, all 8 songs are a Black Metal achievement for Satyricon, in my opinion. This album has become an all time favorite for me real fast. If you are looking for real Metal music, the stuff that is not on any commercial radar, this is what you want to hear. Satyr and Frost do not need to prove to me how talented they are, the quality of Metal is there every time I listen to "The Age of Nero".
I really recommend this album to all Metal fans, regardless of what your favorite Metal genre may be. This album is too great to pass up. The music is just too catchy and memorable for this album to ever be pushed aside. The liner notes are very cool, with 12 pages of complete lyrics & photos related to the story of each song. Satyr and Frost each have a 1 page photo.
What's great about it: Satyr on vocals and guitar, Frost on drums, every song is solid
What's not so great: Absolutely NO Complaints!
