Just what I needed for an office headphone
on May 31, 2022
Posted by: laserwizard
I had had a Plantronics Bluetooth ear piece that worked satisfactorily though the callers said my mic volume was too low even though it was set appropriately.
It was thus when this headpiece was available, that I jumped at the chance to test and to review this.
I am impressed. Pairing with the CISCO multi-line phone was fairly straightforward after having to search for the default pin code; once that was found, the overall experience was quite easy to pair and the ease of use on the phone is wonderful. I like being able to tap the ear cover area to answer the phone. Volume is good. The clarity is also impressive.
The hardest thing to get used to is that the overall headpiece feels funny on my head - initially I thought it was going to fall off but after 10 minutes I don't even notice the headphone. This is a great hands free headpiece.
Overall set up time was about 10 minutes and that includes me having to find the default pin code for the phone I aws going to use.

You Get What You Pay For
on May 20, 2022
Posted by: laserwizard
The phrase "you get what you pay for" is often used, but in this case, it is so appropriate. This chair is amazing.
ASSEMBLY
Most cheap chairs require massive amounts of assembly - you end up having to attach the arms to the seat, the back to that assembly, screwing the base plate into the seat. Assembly time with cheap chairs takes at least 15 minutes.
This product was stunning in its simplicity - no tools required! There is a base with the floor casters; there is the lift component that goes into the hole in the base. Then you attach the already assembled seat back and base and arms into that. Then you slide the seat cushion assembly into the already assembled chair. End of assembly.
FEATURES
The arm height adjusts with relative ease. The seat height adjusts as easily. The seat back reclines as you need it without the seat cushion/base moving so the chair won't tip over like I've done with cheaper chairs (or when my cat would get on the back of the chair). The arms swivel. And this chair doesn't look like it would take up less real estate in my u-shaped desk, but it is less space hogging than the cheap chair it replaced. Plus I can swivel freely without running into the desk on any side - the arms being height adjusting so they can slide down. And because I like my seat height up for my legs, even at that max setting, my chair still fits under the tables that make my computer/work desks.
The back of this chair is wonderful - a strong mess that also has a unique back support with straps that gives you full support as you recline the seat back. The seat cushion is covered in cloth - a wonderful thing since most cheap chairs have that bonded leather that will start disintegrating days after the first use. The entire chair is stable and there is no rocking with the height tube assembly in the chair base like cheap chairs.

The moment I opened the box, I was disappointed.
Who knew it would take so many screws (8) to fasten a flat panel to a rather unremarkable stand. And instead of a fold down tab to screw into the base, there was another screw.
I have several other "gaming" monitors with lesser specs than this thing and they performed as well or better. Had I not known this was a "gaming" monitor, I would have thought it was just a run of the mill display.
I had heard that Element monitors were good and was excited to try this, but this one was not better than a Dell, Alienware, or even an HP Omen monitor. And all of those were superior in adjustability (this thing only pivots up and down - no height adjustment).
I found the buttons on the bottom of the screen to be oddly placed - not at the edge of either side - no indicator light that is visible (the RGB is on the back so the wall can see it). The buttons are far near the back not near to the actual icons on the bottom. Just weird.
I would recommend this monitor only if it was on sale and only if you needed a monitor - for gaming, they are better ones.

Out of the Box Amazing

I've had many headphones over the years. I've had some big named ones that were simply okay.
But I've never had a set of headphones that sounded like this - or felt like this! Yes, FELT LIKE THIS! Not only do these headphones do a nice job of producing high notes, but they don't sound tinny when it comes to bass. And these headphones vibrate as they reproduce the bass which blew me away. I'm not normally all that impressed with bass as today it seems that sound reproduction concentrates on how much noise can be generated without regard for a balance of high notes and low ones.
These are now my favorite headphones with sound reproduction and the actual sensation of vibrations on my ears and sides of my head - you can feel the speakers vibrate in an almost three dimensional way. It is as if the sound were layered with highs at one level of hearing while the texture of the beat and vibrations were placed on top of the audio like a cherry on a sundae.

Decent Doorbell ... But ...

Nothing wrong with the doorbell or the installation of the app. When you get this running, it seems like a nice device.
But...
The Physical Installation is Horrific!
I tried and tried to get this thing to lock to the mount that is screwed into the wall/surrounding of the door and found this design to be one of the dumbest ever conceived. I tried nicely to tilt, push, pull down on the unit to lock into that mount and nothing worked. I ended up getting close and then just banging it into the mount with my fist. It appears to be somewhat in place.
Thankfully at $50, if someone steals it, I won't feel badly.

Very high quality with many usb ports. What was most important is that the ethernet connected and it actually works - something that an Amazon product failed to do. Impressive in size and with the usb c port being added back after plugging this into the laptop's usb -c. Fast connection and recognized immediately by Windows 10.l

Good, but not better

I was looking forward to testing this soundbar as it was from Samsung.
This product replaced a Sonos soundbar that did not have a secondary speaker. I tested this product with and without the additional speaker system.
I really find that just because a soundbar is louder and makes more noise, it does not make it a better sounding soundbar. What is perplexing is that the Samsung unit by itself was not better than the Sonos one that replaced it. Of course when I added the secondary speaker, the sound was much more emersive, but that should have happened anyway. I'm not sure that this makes the Samsung better than the Sonos one. When comparing apples ot apples, the Samsung doesn't sound as good by itself against the Sonos.
OVERALL QUALITY
I was expecting a high quality feeling and looking product and here the Samsung is clearly inferior to the Sonos. The exterior looks like cheap plastic and this is not enhanced by the odd digital display that appears behind the plastic looking grate. Had I not read the instructions, I would not have known there were external controls on the top of the Samsung unit. I would definitely say the Sonos looks better and doesn't look as cheap as this Samsung.
OVERALL RECOMMENDATION
I'd look for something other than this unit espcially at the price this commands. It is not dollar for dollar better than a Sonos bar. The marginal improvements in sound over the Sonos only comes from adding another speaker. Alone, the Samsung unit did not have a higher quality sound to my ears. I was very disappointed in the overall execution. The cheap looking exterior of this soundbar alone would be a buying decision against the unit if I had walked into a store and seen it prior to purchase.

The Dell XPS 17 laptop delivers powerful performance in an incredibly thin form factor. The stunning 4-sided InfinityEdge UHD+ display enables an amazing screen to body ratio (93.7%) and a 17-inch screen in a 15-inch size form factor. In fact, it’s smaller than 48% of 15-inch laptops. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics feature unique dual opposite outlet fans, that increase fan airflow by approximately 30% and drive cooling airflow in both directions, resulting in more airflow overall and improved skin temperatures. A 100% Adobe RGB display enables you to edit your videos with confidence in their color. 100% of the enclosure is sculpted by a CNC (computer numerical control) machining process. A high precision, machine-milled aluminum chassis creates an elegant design with high build quality that’s stronger and stiffer than magnesium or plastic. A premium 17" touch laptop with a thin and light design.

Premium Experience
on August 29, 2021
Posted by: laserwizard
from Virginia
My first laptop 20 years ago was a Dell and I've appreciated the consistency of experience with Dell for the most part. There have been times when some questionable engineering decisions were made placing the DC jack near a heat exhaust port that caused premature failure of the jacks, but the for the most part Dell has been a durable workhouse machine.
I also most preface that my most recent experience in the last decade has been mostly ASUS oriented because they delivered the most bang for my humble dollars, I do recognize stand out quality when I feel it, and here is a unit that has the feel and appearance of every dollar you'll spend on this XPS 17.
APPEARANCE
Stunning. The lid opening experience tells it all - while some laptops have what seems limp resistance to cover opening, this deal is like opening a bank vault in its assembly quality. You'll feel like the lid is heavier than it is and the quality edge work on the lid and the rest of the chassis continues to invoke a premium feel to the laptop.
The lid and the bottom case are aluminum (it appears to be stamped and then machined); the monitor border is enough to make an Apple laptop look so 1999. There is virtually no border on this screen. And the plamrest and keyboard surface has an almost rubberized feel - textured and firm without looking like cheap plastic. The black surface looks wonderful in constrasting with the aluminum bits and the machined edges gives the computer a very premium look and feel.
MONITOR APPEARANCE
Stunning. Vivid. And touch sensitive. Once again you could buy a much lower priced touch screen laptop, but you would be hard pressed to find a unit that combines touch with 3840x2400 ability. I did notice my particular unit had the brightness turned down which made the initial impression as less than stellar; however, I corrected that issue and turned the brightness up and the results were amazing.
PERFORMANCE
This computer is no joke. It comes with the latest Intel 11th generation i7 chip (11800H). I was going to produce a video prior to releasing this review but my work schedule has been hectic so I ran out of time. Needless to say that just opening the video producing software, Corel VideoStudio 2021 (Ultimate) was a remarkably fast experience - it took less than 10 seconds from the time the splash screen appears until the actual program opened. In prior versions of this software it was nearly a 30 second experience on older machines.
I did run CINEBENCH R23 on this machine and another similarly configured 11th gen Intel i7 machine (same 16 gb of ram and same actual processor and core counts). The Dell XPS 17 turned in multi-core results at 9499 and single core at 802; the comparative tester (Acer Triton Predator gaming laptop) came in at multi-core of 7892 and oddly showed a better single core result at 927.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
The Dell XPS 17 is a delight to use with my first experience of Windows Hello being remarkable in its ability to tell when I have my glasses on and when I don't.
I, however, find the backlighting on the keys to be subpar compared to a much less expense HP Envy 13 or a better overall execution by the ACER Predator (superb). Typing with the keys is not bad but I would not call it memorable. Typing is okay but I would expect a far better keyboard at the price point of this machine.
The trackpad is horrific - it is far too sensitive. Perhaps because I am older, it is set up for younger fingers which can adjust better to the trackpad's sensitivity better than my fingers. I will be getting a mouse because I just can't work with something that is perceiving I've input something or moved across the pad when I had no such intention.
SPEAKERS
Why do they sound so tinny? I know laptop speakers sometimes sound like they are the last thing installed when it comes to putting in the cost figures for a product, but these are just mediocre at best. Compared to my HP Envy 13, these speakers in the XPS 17 were begging for me to have a set of headphones on. I can't believe something like this was allowed to be installed on a computer costing well over $2k. These aren't bad overall, but I wouldn't listen to music on them whereas the HP ENVY 13's are surprisingly good for the money. Again, a value proposition. Had Dell even gone with the HP's speakers, it would have been an upgrade over the tepid sound reproduction of the Dell speakers. So inferior was the sound reproduction that I thought a setting might be off - just like the initial experience with the screen brightness. Alas, I could not find anything to make these speakers sound decent. What is surprising is that Dell put the speakers on the top so they should sound decent, but the HP's were put toward the back of the keyboard and still managed to sound better that far away from my ears. And even though I'm nearly 60, I do want some bass in the sound reproduction and none was to be found here. I've honestly had AM radios back in the day that sounded as good.
OVERALL CONCLUSION
If you want a great looking and well built laptop that simply is stunning in its visual performance, you'd be hard pressed to find a better computer in the Windows world. Two of the shortcomings of this unit can be solved easily with a wireless keyboard and mouse; the sound issue can be solved with headphones (I usually use those any way when making videos) and at least there is a jack to resolve that shortcoming. Aside from those shortcomings outlined, this Dell XPS 17 is a stunner. It brings the entire football team to the field with all-pro players. I will be curious to see how that Acer does in video production compared to this unit. Value is always appreciated more in my family than just bragging rights on amount of money spent. But the XPS 17 has its stunning display to bring to the fight. That will be hard to beat.

Nice portable laptop, but...
on August 21, 2021
Posted by: laserwizard
from Virginia
I want to disclose that I tend to be partial to ASUS laptops. I generally prefer ASUS products over other brands. So what I am about to say shows how disappointed I am with this particular laptop.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
Superb overall construction and look. Very high quality assembly and materials. The keyboard and trackpad did not annoy. I was not blown away by the display nor was I disappointed either. All things considered, this display will work just fine for what it is designed for or as an every day computer.,
IS THIS REALLY A GAMING LAPTOP? - THE DISAPPOINTMENT
I am simply not impressed with this beyond using the laptop for general computing and light graphics work. Perhaps I am a bit jaded because my particular unit experienced a blue screen of death during the first round of windows updates and showed a propensity for not wanting to install programs on the first try. Steam and 3DMark were particularly frustrating to get to install on the first try and I've never had a laptop that I've tested that was slower in installing both. On the second try to get 3DMark to install, I got so frustrated that I gave up for the night and let the computer go while I slept. Apparently this unit is quirky and eventually the program installed but it was not ina reasonable time.
PERFORMANCE
Well, I'm not sure what I should be getting with this but overall this is disappointing. This new ASUS is slower than my former laptop, a 2019 Ryzen 7 that had comparable ram and had 1660Ti graphics. Overall score with TimeSpy on this new ASUS was a disappointing 3907 whereas the two year old ROG-Z 15 inch got 4165. Graphics score on the new unit was again lower than the 2019 model (3611 compared to 4411). Only on the CPU score did things get better for the new laptop (7301 compared to 3166).
From a "feel like" perspective, the computer felt snappy and didn't seem to bog down running 4 hd videos at the same time nor have I found ti to feel slow running 10 firefox browser tabs. I was just surprised that the overall benchmark for gaming was so disappointing.
CONCLUSION
If you needed a computer that was small and lightweight for overall use, this is a really nice machine. I'm not sure if I was going to use this as a dedicated gamer that I would be happy. If you need something that is mobile, it is not a bad choice. It is just a disappointing unit that has me worried if there are going to be future issues with software being resistant to load or if there is a potential drive issue with this particular unit. I have not had any other blue screens of death on this unit since windows updating so this just might be an isolated example - in other new laptopos I've had, I've not had that happen at all which is what caught my attention. I would recommend to a friend but the caveat must be said that if you aren't concerned with mobility, choose the 15 inch ASUS/ROG units even if they cost more.

An awesome budget laptop
By laserwizard from Newport News, VA
I had a tight budget with which to purchase a new laptop - I've been searching for months and nearly purchased a Dell (my preferred brand) on their website.
I happened to shop online at Bestbuy and discovered this computer for $329.99 - it hit every need that i had - and the ram was upgradeable for future needs - it was not a Pentium or Celeron processor which was a plus. Has a fifth gen i3 - and it simply exceeds what I expected at this price point.
I am so pleased with this purchase - the screen does lack a bit on contrast, but when hooked to HD monitor, the monitor resolves that. It streams Hulu and Netflix really well.
For the price, this unit is hard to beat.

Follow up remarks after a week or so of usage
July 12, 2015
Had purchased a laptop for my niece for Christmas, upgraded her Dell from 4 to 8 gb of ram - had her spare 4 gb ram and replaced the 2gb one in this laptop - performance upgrade was noticeable making laptop now an 8 gb unit.
I was curious about maxing out ram to the 12 gb limit noted and secured an 8 gb stick for $45 elsewhere and installed yesterday. Not as much difference in performance as going from 6 to 8 gb, but it is nice to have the ram at a great price - now unit still hasn't cost me $400 in total costs.
This is a great computer for the price - 5th gen i3 makes a big difference over the i3's from the past that I've used. The more I use this the more impressed I am with it. At this price it even outperforms some computers the company I work for has purchased at double the price.
I would definitely buy this again and another made by Asus.

Too cute for its own good - limited use
By laserwizard from Virginia
I found this product to be less than satisfactory for anything but limited use.
First, installation is not intuitive - like some new products, there are NO INSTRUCTIONS - it has something that must be a picture based set of instructions, but it does not give you any clue what to do beyond 1 and 2. It does not tell you what to do next. You will have to go to bluetooth on your device and activate the pairing from a listing. Not sure why this was not mentioned at all. Volume controls are not described at all - they are the - and + signs on the body (in yellow).
Second, sound is okay - that is why I note it is limited. Better than nothing but certainly not great sounding.
Third, no instructions on charging this - there is a piece of ill fitting rubberized plastic at the base that hides the micro usb charging port. You'd think at least it would be labeled or ingrained with "usb".
I guess if you need a portable speaker for some device that is water resistant, this is okay. I wonder why you'd need one since I'd never put anything electrical near water.
I'm over 50 and I see no use for this other than to leave it in a place where I don't have speakers and to use it on a limited basis. Instructions are awful to non-existant and those debits are what bring down this score.
Too cute for its own good.

Will this work on a Chromebook?

For Windows and Mac from what I saw. This is for use on a real computer.

Make your home an internet haven with this versatile Linksys Velop wireless Wi-Fi system. Three identical tri-band dual-stream AC2200 routers, each equipped with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor, deliver lightning-fast internet. Equipped with Bluetooth 4.0/LE, this Linksys Velop wireless Wi-Fi system is simple to set up and pairs easily with computers, tablets and smart devices.

Do you have to have internet connection to make it work

The point of this is to distribute wireless internet connectivity around the house. If all you want to do is to network computers, there are far better options. And I didn't find this system to be very good at doing what it was designed to do. Buy something else for less money.

Surf the Web and stay in touch with this Asus X555LA-SI30504I 15.6" laptop, which features high-speed wireless networking and a Gigabit Ethernet LAN for easy access to the Internet. Bluetooth technology pairs easily with other Bluetooth-enabled devices.

IS THIS LAPTOP AVAILABLE WITH WINDOWS 7

WINDOWS 7 PRO.OR HOME PREMIUM
No - but when you first use it - go to desktop live tile, use Internet Explorer and download "classic shell" - install the free app - it restores start menu and makes the computer look like Windows 7 and you still have the live tiles to use later as you get used to it.

I've found that on every Win8.1 machine I've had, it far exceeds the speed of Win7. In fact, after using 8.1, 7 seems like Vista.

This robust, steel-reinforced headphone can also be folded easily, thanks to it's unique fold and flip design. Once folded, you can simply place it into it's convenient soft carrying case. Sennheiser PX100

could u tell me where is produced?
is it from China?
thanks a lot.
Made in China and very cheap product - almost all plastic except for metal band inside the frame. Based on reviews I was expecting superb quality - well, this is budget cheap in construction.

Are the PX100 or 200 compatible with windows based PC?

Have an iPhone 3G would like to use the same headphone with my windows 7 computer...I travel so the folding is a great feature...
Works with my windows 8.1 laptop just fine. Just beware that the cord is shortish.
