Microsoft does it again

This is my third Microsoft Surface since they were released several years ago. I started with the Surface pro with detachable keyboard and then the first generation of the Surface Laptop and now my current Surface Laptop Go 2. Each generation has improved on the last, whether it’s the speed, keyboard, weight or overall quality.
The current Go2 has a 12.4” screen and a comfortable keyboard that allows your hands to sit naturally when typing. One issue that I find across most laptops is, when typing, my hands inadvertently touch the touch pad and change the curser position. My solution is to turn off the touch pad and use a mouse instead. Going from the Surface Laptop with a 13.5” to the Go 2’s 12.4” screen isn’t as big a difference as I thought it would be. The screen is crystal clear and renders pages without issue.
With the 11th generation Intel I5 processor, the Go’s response is quick with Microsoft Office applications and while using the internet in Edge. The graphics are provided by Intel in their Iris X Graphics and does a good job overall with video and web content. This isn’t a gamers laptop, and I don’t think that’s the customer base Microsoft was looking for with the GO 2 laptop anyway.
My 1st generation Surface laptop had my first introduction to Windows Hello facial recognition to unlock the laptop and it works well. The Surface Laptop Go 2 has Windows Hello as well, but with fingerprint recognition to unlock the laptop. Both worked well, but I personally prefer the facial recognition over the fingerprint. It’s just something to get used to.
One major change from the first-generation Surface laptop to the Go 2 is the removal of the display port in favor of a USB-C. The Surface Laptop Go 2 now provides one USB-A, USB-C and a mini plug for headphones. One complaint people had was that the Gen 1 didn’t have enough ports and I don’t think that has changed with the current version either, but with the USB-C it can be used with different devices.
Battery life is stated to be better than 13 hours and, in my experience, it has lasted several days with on and off use.
The Surface Laptop Go 2 is my new laptop for daily and on the go use. This is a solid premium general use, do everything well Laptop and I highly recommend it.

This is a great Dell All-In-One

I cannot say enough about the new Dell Inspiron 27” all in one desktop computer I recently received. It has exceeded my expectations in every way.
Let me explain why I am so impressed with it. Over the years I have shied away from all-in-one PCs because if one part of the PC has an issue you must send the whole thing in for service. For example, with my old set up, if the monitor went down, I would just replace the monitor. Or if the tower had an issue, I could send it out and replace it with a backup unit the main PC was fixed. But these concerns have pretty much evaporated with the reliability of laptops, which are essentially compact all-in- ones. One issue with my separate PC-monitor set up, was the space that was taken up on my desk and this is a big winner for me with the Dell All-in-One 27”. The whole PC takes up the same space as my old 27” monitor did and frees up space that was otherwise occupied by the PC.
I always liked the ability to expand the RAM or the hard drive on my previous PCs, however with the latest I7 processor from Intel, 16 gigs of RAM and a 1 Terabyte SSD drive, there is no need to expand.
The performance and speed are outstanding with more than enough RAM and CPU power to handle Multitasking. The NVIDIA GeForce MX450 graphics card renders videos and Games with smooth clarity.
There are enough USB ports for all of your peripherals with three USB 3.1 Type A Ports, one USB 3.2 Type A Port and one USB 3.2 Type C Port. It even has one HDMI input and one HDMI output. There is also a gigabit ethernet port for highspeed connections. There is also an audio output in case you prefer your own external speaks instead of the ones that are built in. For video conferences you have a built-in camera that pops up from the top of the screen and works great for Zoom.
The screen displays clean crisp images, and the videos and games render smooth without jitter.
This is one of the best desktops I have ever owned and highly recommend it to anyone who is in need of a space saving PC with outstanding performance and specs to back it up!

Outstanding Free Sync Monitor

I picked up a new Dell desktop PC and wanted a quality monitor to go with it. That’s where the Dell - S2421NX 23.8" AMD Free Sync Monitor comes in. The screen size is perfect for my desk and blends in nicely with the surroundings. Although a little pricier than others, this monitor seems to be worth it in performance. The screen has two HDMI full HD inputs that can automatically detect the source, or you can manually change them. The display is clean and clear without reflection from ambient light because of its anti-reflective screen. The Dell’s IPS screen is better for wide angle viewing as well. Watching videos there isn’t any video lag that I could see. The picture is colorful and bright and well detailed, though a little soft. When playing games, the refresh rate is very good and there is very little if any video smearing on the screen though there were some jaggy edges on some sequences in the games. More intense gaming may push this monitor to its limits, but it doesn't give up easily.
The Dell screen comes with the base, the monitor, power and HDMI cables, a VESA plate and instructions. There are five buttons on the lower right-hand side of the screen. Power, Menu, cancel (X out of) and an up and down button. The Menu button provide you with different picture and source settings. For example, when you select the menu, the first option you are presented with is a list of picture modes to select from. Standard, Movie, FPS, RTS, Warm, cool and custom. Pressing the menu and selecting the second button to the right gives you the sources, (Auto, HDMI1 and HDMI2). Pressing the menu and selecting the third button gives you the picture setting for fine tuning, such as Brightness/Contrast, Input source, Color, Display, Menu, Personalize and Other.
This is a well-rounded monitor for all your computing, gaming and video streaming needs. Though some games may push it’s limits it does hold up well and I would recommend it to anyone in search of a medium size screen.

Great portable Bluetooth speaker!

I have been so impressed with this little Bluetooth speaker. The Marshall - Willen BT Portable Speaker, projects a sound that is larger than its size suggests. Measuring at 4”x 4”x 1.6”, the Willen has a single front firing speaker with toggle multi switch on the front to control the power, volume, pause, skip forward and backward and fast forward and rewind. On top of the Marshall is a Bluetooth button, microphone, and a power level indicator. The back has a strap to connected to an umbrella at the beach, etc.
For such a compact BT speaker it produces a surprisingly full sound that projects well in small rooms or areas. When you push the volume higher it becomes brighter and loses its low end that’s just a limitation of its size. When placing it 2 to 3 inches from a wall it produces a fuller sound.
The battery life is rated at 15 hours, and I was able to get a weeks’ worth of regular use out of it on a single charge. The battery indicator on the top has five red bars that shows the charge that is left. It also doubles as a volume indicator as well.
If you download the iPhone / Android app, you can complete firmware updates and use the limited EQ to enhance bass, voice, and the default Marshall’s signature sound. When you select the bass, it lowers the high end and sounds a bit hollow. When you select the voice EQ it lowers the bass and boosts the mids. The default Marshalls setting was the best for me.
The included microphone makes it good for Bluetooth phone calls which sound clear during calls. You also have the ability to stack your multiple Willens to create a bigger sound!
Overall this is a great little Bluetooth speaker that wants to be big and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a portable BT speaker.

Very good basic protection

I recently picked up an iPhone 13 Pro Max and needed a good cover. I prefer the soft clear plastic type of cover so I can see my phone’s color. I selected the BodyGuardz - Carve Classic Case because it met my wishes for a clear soft plastic cover. I wanted to ensure that it properly covered my phone and didn’t leave the screen vulnerable when placed face down or crack from a short fall. I always seem to drop my phone when taking it out of my pants pockets and the BodyGuardz case has been there to save the screen from cracking. The sides have soft plastic buttons that line up perfectly with the iPhone’s lay out, and they work very well with minimal effort.
Putting the BodyGuardz case on the iPhone is very easy, as is removing it. The only wish I have is that the edge around the screen was a little bit thicker to keep the screen a bit more off surfaces when placed faced down. Other than that, this is a great screen for any iPhone. I would recommend the BodyGuardz case for anyone in need of a good inexpensive case.

Great little keyboard

I was looking for a smaller, more tactile keyboard for my desktop setup. I picked up the Logitech MX Mechanical Mini keyboard to see if it would fit the bill. The QWERY portion of the keyboard is about the same size as a standard keyboard with some exceptions. First off, the number keys and the function keys do several commands that differ from a standard keyboard. This isn’t a huge deal and just takes some getting used to. There are a few other keys the share double duty like the windows key and the start short cut. Again, not a big deal that you can’t get used to over time. The keyboard itself is wireless and can connect with the included wireless bolt receiver or through Bluetooth. The Mini uses a rechargeable battery and has a charge span of upwards of 15 days of continuous use with the backlight on or 10 months of use without the back light. I have been using it for over a week with the backlight on and it still shows 100% on the Options + PC app.
One very nice feature is the ability to customize keys to fit your typing styles or improve functionality. The Options + application from Logitech is used, once downloaded, to customize the Mini’s keys and is very straightforward to use. There you can configure your keyboard to your liking.
The keyboard provides positive feedback while typing and the keys are spaced for comfort while using it. The backlit keys are great for use in dimly lit areas. I have been really impressed with the quality and response of this keyboard and recommend it for those who consider space a challenge and still want the feel of a full-size keyboard.

Fast daily desktop!

I have had many different desktop computers over the years that have varied in features and all-around speed. The Dell Inspiron Compact desktop in mistic blue is extremely fast and easy to use. For the price this desktop sports an Intel Core I5-12400 processor with 12 gigs of RAM and a 256 gig SSD hard drive. Included with the desktop is a USB wired keyboard and mouse. Both work relatively well. The keyboard could have a better feel for typing and it would be nice to have a Bluetooth or wireless mouse and keyboard, but that’s being picky on my part. The video is Intel basic UHD included graphics and may not be up to gamers expectations. For gerneral video use it is fine.
For a compact desktop it has a lot of physical connection and expansion features. There are three USB ports in the front and a USB-C, card reader, power button and a DVD disc drive/ burner. The back has four USB ports and HDMI out, Mini jack audio out, Cat6 in and four expansion slots.
Included software includes the usual Microsoft office 365, assorted Dell software and a limited Power2 suite of applications for burning discs and picture editing. One nice feature of Microsoft live accounts is the ability to sync your information between computers, which made my set up quicker.
As for the speed of this desktop, it is very quick with internet searches, viewing YouTube videos and Netflix and working with all the Office apps. I have been very impressed at the speed of online searches and how quickly pages load. You can’t go wrong for the price and features this desktop has and the overall performance. I highly recommend it.

The little soundbar that could

I needed a compact soundbar for my bedroom setup. It seems that most manufacturers have a smaller soundbar, but they didn’t fit the bill. That’s where the Polk Magnifi Mini AX comes in. This Soundbar has the perfect size and features that I was looking for. It includes the soundbar that is meant to sit on top of a cabinet or TV stand and not mounted on a wall like some others do.
This compact Soundbar is approximately 14”x3.5”x3.25” and fits in nicely under my TV. The included wireless subwoofer works well with the soundbar. The Magnifi Mini AX has one HDMI eARC, one optical input, one mini jack input, one USB and WIFI connectivity. eARC makes it easy to connect to your TV and send quality surround sound audio to the Soundbar. Included in the box is a HDMI cable and a remote. The soundbar has several sound settings, (Movie, 3D, Night mode, All channel music mode, and Music mode) for the type of listening you are doing. The remote allows you to adjust the bass up or down and increase the voice up or down, as well the usual volume, power and input change. Both the sound modes and the volume levels are displayed on the soundbar behind the grill cloth with blue LEDs. Set up is very easy. Plug in your soundbar and sub and connect the included HDMI and you are up and running. One nice feature is the wireless connection that allows you to stream music from your mobile devices. Polk says that most TV remote will control the Magnifi Mini AX, but I didn’t try that because I use a Harmony remote for my equipment.
The sound quality for this mini soundbar is nothing short of amazing with smooth highs and mids and thunderous bass from the wireless sub. Movies sound incredible and music clean full.

Motorola's got you covered

I recently received the Motorola - AX1800 Mesh WiFi Router/Extender to reduce the WiFi dead spots in my home. I was looking for a way to seamlessly move from room to room in my home without losing connectivity. This is where the Motorola AX1800 comes in. There are three puck shaped router/extenders in the packaging. Each one is approximately 6 inches by 3 inches and have one Cat in and one out and a USB port. Also included in the package is three power cords for the routers, one CAT6 wire and a basic instruction card. The packaging has a high end look to it.
Setting up the AX-1800 is easy provided you have a smart device to download the MOTO SYNC app from the Google Store or the Apple App Store. I have Apple product and went that route. Once you have the required app on your device, you just have to follow the on-screen prompt to set up each of the pucks. Once each puck is connected the app will prompt you to continue to the next one. When all the AX-1800 extenders have been set up, you can use the app to control and do some basic customization. The app allows you to name the network and set a common password to use across the MESS network. This is the benefit of a MESS network. This gives you the ability to set your WiFi for you mobile devices and the connectivity is seamless as the routers hand off your devices between each extender as you move around your home.
Then app provides some security prevention, utilities for testing speed, shows the devices that are connected and more advanced settings as well.
The performance is excellent. Once my devices are connected, they are rock solid. Laptops, tablets, streaming devices and doorbell cameras all work quickly and without issue. I am able to move around the house on my tablet and not worry about losing signal. With over 5000 square feet of coverage there are no worries.

I received the Dime 2 headphones and was hoping for more. Their size and fit are very good. You are provided with different ear tips to fit different size ears, a USB charging plug, basic instructions and a hard-shell carrying case. The carrying case that also charges them on the run is very helpful and also protects them when not in use. There are button on each earphone that allow you to answer calls, skip forwards and back on songs and change the volume. This is a plus on a entry level pair of earphones.
But the downfall for me was the sound. The sound quality for what you pay for is tinny and lacking bass. I tried to change the tone of the sound but couldn't quite get it to a point that it sounded good to me. My concern is ear fatigue from the excessive highs. For inexpensive in ear headphones these make a good second pair or back up to keep in your backpack as a spare.
My recommendation is to have these as a spare of backup set, not as a pair you will rely on for everyday use.

You can have two head phone sets. If you use an RCA "Y" connector or if you TV has an optical out put and a analog (RCA) output, you could put one set on the optical and the second one on the RCA.

This computer does not have fire wire. Are there any slots available to where I can add a fire wire card? My older video cam uses fire wire, and my analog to digital converter also uses fire wire.

Will this play work with an LG 65EG9600?
I know the 65EG6500 does not support HDR, but will it still send native 4k to the TV?
From my understanding so long as your TV is HDMI 2.0 and HDCH 2.2 and 4k it should display a 4k picture
