HBO brings the first season of their hugely successful series Sex and the City to DVD in a double-disc package that includes bonuses such as a short making-of featurette, cast and crew biographies, and website access. Though the network's willingness to bring the show out on home video so soon after its debut is admirable, a few frustrating problems plague the set. First of all, the video transfer leaves something to be desired: slight but noticeable grain pops up occasionally, particularly during daytime scenes. The discs' menus are also somewhat clumsy and not easily navigable, and though the set's clear packaging is pretty, it offers little information about the discs inside. However, these are fairly minor complaints that shouldn't stop the series' fans from enjoying this set -- the show's sharp dialogue and performances still shine. While more substantial extras would have been welcome, such as commentary from the show's directors or stars, Sex and the City: The Complete First Season is a step in the right direction from HBO to get their series on DVD. With any luck, the upcoming Sopranos set will benefit from the experience the network gained from this package, and will hopefully pave the way for The Larry Sanders Show, Arli$$, and Mr. Show sets in the not too distant future.

Good beginning to the show HORRIBLE DVD PACKAGE

This is the show that started the now long string series on HBO. WHY DID HBO NOT SHOW THIS WIDESCREEN?
Good start to the show & the characters. One thing I do NOT like in season 1 & 2 was those cut aways where Carrie is telling the story to random people to get their views. I was glad when they stopped this.
My favorite character is Samantha. Why, for the most part she is honest & tells it like it is. Yes, she does lie but it is her responses, to the point, not mincing words. Least favorite Charlotte. Everything has to be a certain way. If a piece of gum got stuck to the bottom of a shoe she would call a cab & run into her apartment to take a shower. She thought herself so much better than others but she slept around without a thought. Kristin Davis did a great job with the character but still my least favorite of the girls.
Carrie. You like her 1 minute, the next you do NOT. She is high end to but won’t cook for herself The clothes & shoes were a big deal on the show YET IN A LOT OF THESE OUTFITS HER BRA STRAPS HUNG OUT Yep, that is high class NOT
Miranda She was smart but easy. Liked her views sometimes the next you did not. First season was Skipper
We meet BIG (John we learn the first name ONLY in the last episode of the show and did NOT learn the last name until the first movie) He felt for Carrie but still treated her badly throughout the show
NOW WHY I HATE THESE DVD PACKAGES These horribly designed flop open cases.

The complete fourth season of HBO's comedy Sex and the City arrives on DVD with this multi-disc set. Each episode is presented in the original broadcast aspect ratio of 1.33:1. English and Spanish soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, making it difficult to recommend this set to anyone other than a fan of the show.

Better season Aiden round 2 & Richard HORRIBLE DVD

This is the show that started the now long string series on HBO. Why was the show not shown in widescreen HBO?
Still, a very good season.
My favorite character is Samantha. Why, for the most part she is honest & tells it like it is. Yes, she does lie but it is her responses, to the point, not mincing words. Took till season 4 for her to really get a male friend Richard/her boss. Remember to send your best. Least favorite Charlotte. Everything has to be a certain way. If a piece of gum got stuck to the bottom of a shoe she would call a cab & run into her apartment to take a shower. She thought herself so much better than others but she slept around without a thought. Then, when we get to see more of Trey & how pushy she got & look what happened. The baby obsession, TOO MUCH Kristin Davis did a great job with the character but still my least favorite of the girls.
Carrie. You like her 1 minute, the next you do NOT. She is high end to but won’t cook for herself The clothes & shoes were a big deal on the show YET IN A LOT OF THESE OUTFITS HER BRA STRAPS HUNG OUT Yep, that is high class NOT Aiden, who I always liked, round 2 She treated him badly, of course the affair with Big. She felt bad but took her a long time to stop. Showed just what she felt for Aiden. Saying yes & not meaning it.
Miranda She was smart but easy. Liked her views sometimes the next you did not. Steve & the baby. Like Carrie and Aiden how badly Miranda treated Steve. Over critical, demanding. I never cared for the Steve character but still
Trey. Never liked the character. A lying, weak wimp. And, a Mommas boy-Bunny. Glad they ended this relationship in the show. The actress who plays Bunny sure has a long string of famous roles playing the mother. Cheers

The third season of HBO's wildly popular mating-ritual sitcom is finally available for repeat airings with this comprehensive three-disc set. Sex and the City: Season 3 catches up with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) as they navigate their way through affairs, relationships, and breakups with suitors including nature boy Aidan (John Corbett), arrested adolescent Steve (David Eigenberg), uptight WASP Trey (Kyle MacLachlan), and unreliable perma-bachelor Mr. Big (Chris Noth). The set covers episodes 31 through 48, including "Where There's Smoke" through "Cock a Doodle Do!"

Better than the first two seasons since we knew the characters very well now & continued to follow their lives

Miranda She was smart but easy. Liked her views sometimes the next you did not. So, the beginning of Steve. Like Carrie and Aiden how badly Miranda treated Steve. Over critical, demanding. I never cared for the Steve character but still
Trey. Never liked the character. A lying, weak wimp. And, a Mommas boy-Bunny. The actress who plays Bunny sure has a long string of famous roles playing the mother. Cheers
And, the 2 episodes where the girls go to Los Angeles/Hollywood. They spoke the cities down saying how bad they were which was 100% wrong BUT IN THE 2CD FILM THE MIDDLE EAST WAS GREAT? Come on now writers.

Join Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda as the journey toward their last hurrah begins in HBO/Rysher Entertainment's release of Sex and the City: The Complete Sixth Season -- Part One. Episodes are presented as they originally aired in 1.33:1 full-frame, and a variety of audio options including English Dolby Digital 5.1 and English and Spanish Dolby Digital Stereo with optional English, Spanish, and French subtitles are also included. For those who care to hear all the juicy gossip regarding the actual production of the series, a commentary track with producer Michael Patrick King offers a tantalizing glimpse behind-the-scenes of the hit series. Also included as a bonus feature is a Museum of Television and Radio Seminar featuring stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Michael Patrick King, which rounds out the extra features.

MY COMPLAINT FOR HBO-SPLITTING THE SEASONS INTO 2 PARTS FOR DVD RELEASE WASTE PEOPLE’S MONEY & TIME. Thanks HBO for nothing
My favorite character is Samantha. Why, for the most part she is honest & tells it like it is. Yes, she does lie but it is her responses, to the point, not mincing words. Her relationship with Jerry/Smith continues. Then the breast cancer. Least favorite Charlotte. Everything has to be a certain way. If a piece of gum got stuck to the bottom of a shoe she would call a cab & run into her apartment to take a shower. She thought herself so much better than others but she slept around without a thought. Always liked the Harry character. Pushing & obsessing about a baby AGAIN Kristin Davis did a great job with the character but still my least favorite of the girls.
Carrie. You like her 1 minute, the next you do NOT. She is high end to but won’t cook for herself The clothes & shoes were a big deal on the show YET IN A LOT OF THESE OUTFITS HER BRA STRAPS HUNG OUT This last season & the Russian. The set up for the end with Big (John)
Miranda She was smart but easy. Liked her views sometimes the next you did not. Steve & the marriage. Moving to Brooklyn. Nose in the air while doing so. I never cared for the Steve character but still
A short season due to pregnancies so we viewers were cheated. HBO should be ashamed of themselves

The abbreviated fifth season of HBO's acclaimed series about the sometimes funny and sometimes frustrating side of love and sex gets a polished presentation for its release on DVD. Sex and the City: The Complete Fifth Season has been transferred to disc in the full-frame aspect ratio and the audio has been mastered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround. The dialogue is in English, with optional subtitles in Spanish and closed captions in English. Bonus material in this set includes audio commentaries from series creator Michael Patrick King, previews for each episode, cast and crew biographies, a behind-the-scenes look at producing season five, and an interactive trivia quiz.

This release brings together every episode from the sophomore season of the HBO series Sex and the City, a run of shows that follows Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) as she gets back into the dating scene after breaking up with and Mr. Big (Chris Noth).

What a disappointment SPOILERS IN REVIEW
on May 15, 2011
Posted by: CKCSWHFFAN

I liked the 2000 original Meet the Parents. I enjoyed 2004's Meet the Fockers even more. Why, the addition of Dustin &Barbra
I HAD looked forward to this film.
What a huge disappointment
Owen Wilson, what, was this his movie? He had a small supporting role in the original film. The second film an UNNECESSARY cameo. You can tell I do NOT like Wilson. But, why so much of him in this film? We took the story away from the family to waste screen time to a supporting character. I did NOT buy one scene with him.
We hardly see Dustin or Barbra. We do not even see them together till the end of the movie. That was the key to the success of the 2cd film, them and their characters. Two Oscar winners got less screen time than Wilson? Makes no sense does it?
I am also NOT a fan of Stiller's. He does the same role over and over again.
Jessica Alba and Laura Dern you could NOT even stomach their characters . You know, I am a diabetic, I can not take that much sugar.
DeNiro's character Jack now has a heart problem yet we have this fist fight between him and Gaylord. SEE THE TRAIN COMING DOWN THE TRACK, NURSE FOCKER DID NOT KNOW HIS FATHER IN LAW WOULD HAVE HEART PROBLEMS? He did not start the fight, he could & should have backed away. Yeah, Jack's death would have been funny. Ha ha
THE SON VOMIT SCENE WAS NOT NECESSARY. Why did we need to bring the lizard to the WAY OVER DONE BY WILSON birthday party? The daughter not talking to Gaylord.
Where was Little Jack from the 2cd film? Did NOT see the character, a part of the family and a large part of the 2cd film. 3rd film NOTHING.
We did not see Pam’s sister except in a photo yet her divorce from Doctor Bob was talked about throughout the film. You could see into the future the scenes, you knew what was coming.
Just a huge disappointment. Blame a new director.
As for the DVD, normal extras you would see one the DVD's for the first two films.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good not great try Disney TERRIBLE DVD PACKAGE
on March 30, 2011
Posted by: CKCSWHFFAN
from home
After a decade of disappointing Disney films (NOT talking with Pixar) with only "Lilo and Stitch" as the only hit Disney decided to go back to tried & true.
And, did they.
It is a good film. There is humor. Supporting characters that we more exciting than the main characters. That would be Maximus & Pascal. Stole one name from "Gladiator"? We got back into regular Disney music for a film. That is a plus, BUT which is major. None of the songs are memorable. I can NOT remember any of them after the film.
Is colorful.
When I wrote above about tried & true. I mean it. You see several scenes here that were taken from both "Beauty and the Beast" & "Snow White". When the film started I thought I was watching "Beauty and the Beast". The superior film of course, "Snow White" again superior and the one that started the full length animated films.
The good guy is first a heal, hey Disney how about I saw that in "The Princess and the Frog"?
So, it was a good try & a good film Disney. Just NOT a bulls eye.
NOW, THE COMPLAINT I HAVE WITH DISNEY NOW. They think EVERYONE has a blu/ray player. I do NOT. Can NOT afford one or the discs. So, Disney does NOT care about regular DVD's anymore. There is only one extra on this and it is for kids.
And, for a colorful film why a plain Jane silver disc Disney? Cheap. For a colorful film, beautiful animation a plain silver disc.
Cutting corners does NOT make people customers happy Disney. Disney has gone cheap, NOT the way to make money Disney. I hope your company AGAIN uses sales because of these cheap tricks.
Disney, you want to make money. KEEP YOUR CUSTOMERS HAPPY.

DVD is a cut up mess

I was looking forward to the DVD.
Man, a let down.
DVD starts out with some classic funny bit The Frank Sinatra with Sting as Billy Idol, Bill Clinton & the fast food. Still very funny today.
But, then it went into a cut up mess. Multiple cut up sketches.
Then, the rest of the sketches THAT WERE COMPLETE were not best of sketches.
Any SNL or fan of the late Phil will be disappointed in this DVD.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Saturday Night live: The Best of Dan Aykroyd offers a helping of sketches featuring the man who, alongside creative partner John Belushi, would skyrocket to fame in the early years of Saturday Night Live. The release contains memorable skits like The Bass-o-Matic, and such popular characters as Irwin Mainway and E. Buzz Miller.

Good NOT great DVD missing stuff
on March 20, 2011

I knew when I purchased this you would see some classic sketches with Dan. This one has 2 Conehead famous bits.
But, IF you own anymore of the Best of SNL DVD's IF you have the Steve Martin one then you already have the Conehead bit with Steve from the IRS and the same “Wild and Crazy Guys” bit.
The classic "Fred Garvin" bit is here. Always thought & still do Margot Kidder (flash in the pan from Superman) her timing was completely off in this bit. Julia Child is here.
The bit with the superheroes from the same episode with Bill as Superman is here. They could Have put this bit on the Best of Belshui DVD, his role is more funny than Dan as The Flash.
We only get 1 bit with Jane at the Weekend Update desk, could have used more of these & only 1 of The Blues Brothers.
Good, decent DVD. Should have been outstanding, but missing bits make it good NOT great.

The Kardashian sisters feel the impact of celebrity in this season, when Khloé must deal with the very public aftermath of her DUI, while Kim and Kourtney contend with sibling rivalry as their professional and personal relationships blur.

Guilty pleasure, MUCH IMPROVED OVER SEASON 2
By CKCSWHFFAN from home
Yes, the show is a guilty pleasure.
Episodes that aired in 2009. 12 episodes this season
Now, THE IMPROVEMENTS. 1. The episodes are wide screen, 2. Disc 1 has deleted scenes & 3. Disc 2 has commentary for episodes. Why not with each episode-no clue about that. But it is MUCH better than the blog from Rob on season 2.
Now, this time out apparently there are ONLY 3 Kardashians in this season. Kourtney, Kim & Khloe are only shown on both sides of the DVD case. BOTH discs have the same photo of them. So, they do NOT give credit to Kris, Bruce, Rob, Kendall & Kylie? Show is called Keeping Up With The Kardashians NOT Keeping Up With The Kardashian Sisters.
1 big mistake done again on this DVD. Same CHEAP, PLASTIC DVD CASE WITH THE INTENTIONAL HOLES IN IT. CHEAP & NOT SAFE. Apparently the DVD makers just want people to buy this over & over again since the DVD are NOT safely secure.
And, a point for anyone. There was MASS CONFUSION ABOUT THE RELEASE DATE OF THIS DVD. It was released 8-17-10. Some stores & websites changed the date until 9-21-10. THIS WAS UNTRUE. I purchased the DVD from a local store 8-18-10. So, make sure IF you want it check with the store. DO NOT GO BY PRINTED MATERIAL
