The reason I bought my DVD player
on January 9, 2008
Posted by: CKCSWHFFAN

I was first in the door opening day in 2000.
The original DVD package for the film was the reason I bought my 1st DVD player in 2000.
I bought this set as soon as it was released.
A plus were the deleted scenes.
Best part was the commentary with Russell & Ridley. Every time I watch the film I always play that commentary.
When you can do TOO many extras this is a good example of it.
Needed a better booklet/brochure inside the package. That was kind of lame.
What's great about it: Good deleted scenes-great commentary
What's not so great: TOO many extras
I would recommend this to a friend!

As they have with several of their major animated features, Disney have given Mulan an exhaustive expanded release on this double-disc DVD edition. Mulan has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.66:1, which has also been enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors. The original English-language soundtrack is accompanied by alternate dubbed versions in French, Spanish, and Mandarin, as well as optional English subtitles; the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1. The transfer is THX-approved, and audio and video tests for adjusting your home theater are on board. A heaping portion of bonus materials has been included for this release, including a collection of deleted scenes (among them an alternate opening sequence), four music videos, an audio commentary track, a handful of games for children, a chapter of historical trivia facts, and extensive material on the production of the movie, including background on the story that inspired the film, early presentation footage, storyboard to film comparisons, design sketches and production artwork, and much more.

Very good film-good DVD package

I was surprise how much I enjoyed the film once I saw it.
I do have both DVD versions of it.
The Mushu character is one of my favorite Disney characters but you rarely him mentioned with Disney fans. A fault of newer Disney films.
Good DVD package.
Shame Disney decided to make the “straight to DVD” sequels from it. Those are only to earn money “not necessary“ in my opinion.
What's great about it: Good characters-great music
What's not so great: NOT given the credit it should be

Long resistant to film adaptations of her Mary Poppins books, P.L. Travers finally succumbed to the entreaties of Walt Disney, and the result is often considered the finest of Disney's personally supervised films. The Travers stories are bundled together to tell the story of the Edwardian-era British Banks family: the banker father (David Tomlinson), suffragette mother (Glynis Johns), and the two "impossible" children (Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber). The kids get the attention of their all-business father by bedevilling every new nanny in the Banks household. Whem Mr. Banks advertises conventionally for another nanny, the kids compose their own ad, asking for someone with a little kindness and imagination. Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews in her screen debut) answers the children's ad by arriving at the Banks home from the skies, parachuting downward with her umbrella. She immediately endears herself to the children. The next day they meet Mary's old chum Bert (Dick Van Dyke), currently employed as a sidewalk artist. Mary, Bert, and the children hop into one of Bert's chalk drawings and learn the nonsense song "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" in a cartoon countryside. Later, they pay a visit to Bert's Uncle Albert (Ed Wynn), who laughs so hard that he floats to the ceiling. Mr. Banks is pleased that his children are behaving better, but he's not happy with their fantastic stories. To show the children what the real world is like, he takes them to his bank. A series of disasters follow which result in his being fired from his job. Mary Poppins' role in all this leads to some moments when it is possible to fear that all her good work will be undone, but like the magical being she is, all her "mistakes" lead to a happy result by the end of the film. In 2001, Mary Poppins was rereleased in a special "sing-along" edition with subtitles added to the musical numbers so audiences could join in with the onscreen vocalists.screen vocalists.

Wonderful film though special effects now dated
on January 9, 2008

This was the film Disney film released after I was born.
I rewatched it in the mid 1990’s & really enjoyed it.
A classic.
The award winning special effects do Not hold up well now a days.
Julie Andrews deserved her Oscar.
The music is wonderful. The animation terrific.
I find myself if I am feeling blue watching this movie the film will make me feel better.
What a “spoon full of sugar” can do for someone.
The DVD package is great. I enjoyed the extras. Extras like “Making of” special I always enjoy. Seeing cast interviews was a good add on to this package.
What's great about it: Classic film-great music
What's not so great: now dated looking special effects

One of my favorite Disney films-glad for this pack
on January 9, 2008

Of the original Disney classic films, I mean the older ones while Walt was alive & right after his death, if I had to pick a favorite this is the one.
I have both DVD packages for this film.
I did rush out to purchase this the day it came out.
Good characters but the reason I put this at the top of my Disney favorites (older films) was the music.
My all time favorite Disney song “I Wanna Be Like You”. Just love the song.
I always enjoy extras in my DVD packages. I did enjoy the “Making of” segment.
It is a shame films are not made with this quality but rarely now a days.

Rushed out to buy when it was released
on January 9, 2008

My 5 rating is for the filming-even with what I write below
Being a Star Wars fan since I saw the original February 1978 & a collector since August 1980 I rushed out to purchase this when it was released in 2004.
OK, I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SINCE I GOT IT. A POORLY PUT TOGETHER PACKAGE FOR THE SET. Who designed this? A pain to get in & out of. Silver or gold depending on wide or full screen. Looked boring to me.
Now, everyone has been & will continue to debate the changes to the films George made for the DVD package & when he did the “special editions” in 1997. Over all I like the changes in 1997. My favorite was to Empire EVEN THOUGH IN 2004 THOSE ADDITIONS I DID NOT LIKE. Just from what was done to the Bespin sets, windows, etc HATED the unnecessary line addition from Darth to the Emperor as was the unnecessary “Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival”. Why did this need to be added George? Then, of course TAKING AWAY THE PERFECT VOICE FOR BOBA FETT BECAUSE OF THE STORY BEING EXPLAINED IN CLONES. Perfect voice taken away.
The 2004 version of Jedi with adding Hayden at the end. Did NOT like that at all. Nor the boring music at the end. I prefer “Lapti Nek” to “Jedi Rocks”.
Of course, George being George in 2005 & 2006 issued out other DVD releases of the original films. And, he will continue to do this over & over again.
What's not so great: HORRIBLE DESIGNED DVD PACKAGE

Very good film-even if you are not into Westerns
on January 8, 2008

I am not a Westerns film person. Never have been.
I have never seen the original film.
Bought the tape because I am a fan of Russell’s.
A very good film, good acting around.
Did NOT need the partial female nudity.
It well deserved the critical acclaim it received when released.
DVD package-MISTAKE, NO CHAPTER SEARCH LIST OR ANY FILM INFORMATION INSIDE.
Violent as you would expect. Do NOT see it if you are not a fan of such films & scenes.
Good extras on the DVD package. That surprised me. Lately I have been disappointed by other DVD releases having very little as for extras on them.
Could have appreciated a 2 disc package but I will take what I can get.
What's great about it: no chapter list in package
What's not so great: violence

My favorite of the prequels but least favorite DVD
on January 1, 2008

Being a Star Wars fan & collector for 28 years now I made a point of purchasing this DVD the moment it was released.
Always great to see the film in the wide screen format.
Good extras on it with ! Exception that just ruined the package for me.
I always like to view the extras & behind the scenes, bloopers, deleted scenes I always enjoy to watch. I was VERY disappointed George let fans down with this DVD & did NOT put bloopers on it Instead we got a video of Yoda break dancing. It was funny but IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTION FOR THE BLOOPERS.
Well, we do have to keep in mind George just LOVES to release the films OVER & OVER AGAIN so maybe on the 2cd DVD release he will correct this error/omission.
Rating is for the movie in whole-not just the DVD package.

Film still has an impact 25 years later AFTER 2007

I was first in the door opening day when it opened June 1982.
Film SHOULD have done better at the box office.
Still visually stunning.
Film had faults & even in this “final edition” it still does.
The voice over, a lot has been said about it. Harrison did should bored when he did it. When you see the film now without it you can truly say it was never needed.
The unnecessary Joanna Cassidy topless scene, never liked that.
VERY disappointed in editing now a days the film makers could NOT correct the problem with the stunt double with the BLACK wig in for Joanna with RED hair as Zhora is put into retirement.
Good to see interviews with most of the remaining cast.
It claims to be the “final cut”. Yeah, we will wait & see on that.
And, the DVD package of course did NOT get a chapter search list.
What's not so great: no chpater search list

Enjoyed the movie-boring DVD package
on December 18, 2007

As a Simpson’s fan since the show premiered December 1989 (I have never seen all the Tracy Ulman episodes) And, yes I did spell her last name wrong. Sorry
Enjoyed the film-several real funny scenes. Rock & A Hard Place, ads. “Excellent”.
Now, for the lame DVD package.
What is the deal with that THIN paper insert that tears because it is on SO THIN paper. MOSTLY ads & NO CHAPTER LIST.
Guess this is supposed to keep Simpson’s fans happy until the 11 season is released on DVD.
NOT a heck of a lot of info on the DVD package.
Just plain boring extras or LACK or badly designed extras.
Obviously based on viewing the film on DVD review.

The least favorite of the 3-DISNEY GIVES FILM SPOI
on December 7, 2007
Posted by: CKCSWHFFAN
from home
This review is from the DVD of the film so my review below is not only on the film but the 2 disc "special edition" DVD package
The last film of the series (maybe) is my least favorite.
Not as fun as the first two films. How many spoilers does 1 want here?
Killing off multiple characters (will not say which here not to spoil the surprise to someone who has not watched the film yet) except to say 1 character brought into this film alone & with the notable actor playing the part gets killed off what half way through the film. Badly done Disney.
WAY too many characters to keep track of.
I did enjoy, like in the 1st film, the lines taken from the Disneyland attraction.
Ok, the problems with the DVD package:1. Those HORRIBLE, little flip open plastic cases I hate these things!!!
2. Disney giving away spoilers INSIDE THE DVD PACKAGE!! I did not get to see the film in the theater, so when I bought the DVD & saw the packaging/inserts inside 1 of them gave away plot points. Disney, you should know better than that.
3. Limited edition? Ha ha, available until 9-30-08

The Kardashian sisters feel the impact of celebrity in this season, when Khloé must deal with the very public aftermath of her DUI, while Kim and Kourtney contend with sibling rivalry as their professional and personal relationships blur.

Guilty pleasure, MUCH IMPROVED OVER SEASON 2
By CKCSWHFFAN from home
Yes, the show is a guilty pleasure.
Episodes that aired in 2009. 12 episodes this season
Now, THE IMPROVEMENTS. 1. The episodes are wide screen, 2. Disc 1 has deleted scenes & 3. Disc 2 has commentary for episodes. Why not with each episode-no clue about that. But it is MUCH better than the blog from Rob on season 2.
Now, this time out apparently there are ONLY 3 Kardashians in this season. Kourtney, Kim & Khloe are only shown on both sides of the DVD case. BOTH discs have the same photo of them. So, they do NOT give credit to Kris, Bruce, Rob, Kendall & Kylie? Show is called Keeping Up With The Kardashians NOT Keeping Up With The Kardashian Sisters.
1 big mistake done again on this DVD. Same CHEAP, PLASTIC DVD CASE WITH THE INTENTIONAL HOLES IN IT. CHEAP & NOT SAFE. Apparently the DVD makers just want people to buy this over & over again since the DVD are NOT safely secure.
And, a point for anyone. There was MASS CONFUSION ABOUT THE RELEASE DATE OF THIS DVD. It was released 8-17-10. Some stores & websites changed the date until 9-21-10. THIS WAS UNTRUE. I purchased the DVD from a local store 8-18-10. So, make sure IF you want it check with the store. DO NOT GO BY PRINTED MATERIAL
