Roger Spottiswoode directs Kurt Russell and Robin Williams in the high-school football comedy The Best of Times, which comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. The closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include the trailer, and information on the cast and crew. This is a fine release from Trimark.

Always enjoyed the film

I have always enjoyed this film.
I live in the San Joaquin Valley & my home town is mentioned in the film.
I am a fan of Robin’s. He does a good job with his role. So does Kurt.
Best scene-the Reno & Jack are having dinner with their wives (when they are separated) & they sneak in watching Monday Night Football.
Should have done better at the box office. AND, I DID SEE IT IN THE THEATER.
I grabbed the DVD the minute I knew it was available.
Football fans will enjoy it.
Just show they you’re best move.
No real extras on it-did not figure there would be since the film was not a box office or critical hit.
What's great about it: Fun film-You’re best move
What's not so great: Didn’t do well a the box office
I would recommend this to a friend!

It’s all a dream

One of my all time favorite television shows.
When season 9 is released on DVD in the future & we “ALL REMEMBER SEASON 8 WAS A DREAM”.
I have made this same comment on the last few DVD season released.
I am VERY disappointed ONCE AGAIN NO CAST COMMENTARY.
I remember Donna Reed passed away about a year after she did the “fill in” for Barbara Bel Geddes
But, remember, season 8 is a dream.
Was glad we got rid of Jenna Wade (Priscilla) when the dream is over. HATE THAT CHARACTER.
No cast commentary is the reason I gave this DVD package it’s rating.
What's great about it: It’s all a dream
What's not so great: read review

I have been a Star Wars collector since 1980 & a Family Guy fan since the show came on in 1999-been through all the seasons.
I was really looking forward to this episode.
I was NOT disappointed.
Very funny. Normal Family Guy with a lot of other entertainment references in it.
Never would have thought Adam West would have made it into Star Wars huh?
Just needed more of Stewie as Darth.
Great animation. Also great to have the music (Too bad John Williams did NOT make it though). You would have had to have watched it to know this reference.
They need to start version for Empire & Jedi now.
Well done Seth MacFarlane.
I rushed out the day it was released (today) to purchase it. It is that good.
What's not so great: Just need versions of Empire & Jedi

John Wayne stars in the roaring animal adventure Hatari! directed by Howard Hawks. Paramount has done a commendable job on this 1.85:1 anamophic widescreen transfer (which was previously only available on video and laserdisc in a cropped edition). While the image shows some grain and scratches, overall the transfer has been cleaned up well and looks very presentable. All colors and fleshtones were very bright with edge enhancement being kept to the bare minimum. Audio for Hatari! is presented in Dolby Digital Mono 1.0 and sounds distortion free, if a bit flat and hollow. The dialogue, music, and effects were all clear of distortion and hiss. A Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono French track is also included on this disc, as well as English subtitles. Sadly, the only extra feature available on this DVD is a theatrical trailer for Hatari!, and nothing more. Fans of John Wayne should be excited by this first-ever widescreen release of Hatari!, even if the supplements are a bit slim.

Have loved the film since I was a kid

I have always loved the film.
What a wonderful soundtrack. Perfect for the film & made the film for me.
Is dated now a days. Views with the “Dallas” character.
Perfect to see the film in wide screen as it was meant to be.
No real good extras on the DVD package to speak of. Yes, most of the film makers are no longer with us which explains this.
And, you can concern it too long.
What's great about it: Fantastic music
What's not so great: Dated with few extras

Still a funny film

The biggest grossing film of 1984. SHOULD have been 2cd in my opinion, but that is a different story.
Still a very funny film. Has not lost it touch in the passing of time.
Bill’s performance is perfect as Peter. “He slimed me”.
Lines in the film are terrific.
Good to see the film widescreen.
Effects are JUST A BIT DATED NOW.
What's great about it: Bill Murray

Director Peter Weir's high-seas adventure Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World stars Russell Crowe as Captain Jack Aubrey. Along with his loyal crew, Aubrey engages in a grand game of cat-and-mouse with a renegade French frigate from Napoleon's army. Adapted from the series of novels by Patrick O'Brian, the film is presented on DVD in widescreen with a wealth of audio options. Not only can viewers choose either DTS 5.1 Surround Sound or Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound versions of the original English soundtrack, there are also Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks dubbed in French and Spanish. Along with English and Spanish subtitles, the disc is rounded out by a handful of theatrical trailers. Fans interested in additional supplemental features should check out the two-disc edition that was released simultaneously with this disc. A full-screen version is also available.

Very good film with few flaws

I am a fan of Russell’s. That is why I bought this when it was first released.
The film is very good. SHOULD have won more Oscars & Russell was cheated out of a Best Actor nomination.
It was a shame the film did not do better at the box office.
Few flaws in the film. I do NOT appreciate “scenes you see” in every movie of a certain time. We had to do sailors getting ill when the seas were rough from a storm. No water, stuff like that.
Too bad we had to have 2 DVD versions of the film.
This one has a few good extras on it.
What's great about it: Very good film
What's not so great: Should have done better at the box office

Still funny after all these year-POOR DVD package

I remember going to see this film more than once when I was a kid. When it was released on DVD in 2006 I grabbed it up & so did a family member.
It is still funny, a bit dated now. The wheel chair race with Paul Newman & the Coke machine I have to play more than once.
But, a cheap DVD package. NO extras on the DVD, no chapter search list inside.
An original film, as the package says. Does NOT get the credit it should.
So, the 5 rating is for the film NOT the DVD package.
What's great about it: Still funny, under rated film
What's not so great: Poor, lacking DVD package

A disappointing film

Being a fan of Russell’s for 10 years this year I was looking forward to this film when it was release November 2006. Previews looked good to me for A Good Year.
Russell did his usual great job. But, the film was lacking. 1 minute Ridley wanted it to be a 1980’s cheap comedy ( the car going in circles fast). Music was not good, I only like 1 song used in the soundtrack.
Unnecessary partial nude scene.
Now, the DVD. Glad there were a few extras. Like the bit with Russell 6 Ridley. WOULD have nice to have been longer.
NO chapter search list inside. Other wise called CHEAP.
I so wanted to love this film but was just very disappointed in it.
What's great about it: Russell Crowe & Ridley Scott
What's not so great: Poor film & lacking DVD package

Certainly the most comprehensive, feature-packed presentation of one of the most popular animated films of all-time, Disney's The Lion King: Special Edition offers just about every nugget of information a fan could need or want. First off, the film has been digitally restored and remastered to provide the best image quality possible for any television. The image is presented letterboxed in its original 1.66:1 ratio, and there is a new, THX-certified mix of the Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound audio in English and French. Two versions of the film are included: the original release, and a new cut incorporating a brand new song, "Morning Report." Audio commentary on the film is provided by directors Rob Minkoff and Roger Allers, as well as from producer Don Hahn. In terms of other special features, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "Circle of Life" get completely new music videos. "Timon and Pumbaa's Virtual Safari" give viewers an at-home approximation of The Lion King theme park ride, and kids can play for hours with the interactive "Grab-a-Grub" and "Pumbaa's Sound Sensations" games. Countless featurettes called "journeys" detail the making of the film. Among them: "Animal Journey," a look at the real animals that inspired characters in the film, narrated by Roy Disney; "Stage Journey," which describes the challenges faced by Julie Taymor and her award-winning Broadway adaptation of the film; "Music Journey," which talks to Elton John and Tim Rice about their inspirations for the film's soundtrack; and "Story Journey," a look at the timeless folk-tale inspirations for the script. Rounding out the package are still galleries, storyboard-to-film comparisons, and character development stills. This collector's version of The Lion King: Special Edition also comes packaged with five character drawings, and a special-edition Lion King book.

Great, fun film-good extras but

I have always loved the film.
Beautiful film, the animation is just terrific. Good to see 2 different versions of the film.
Love the characters. Timon & Scar my favorites.
Film well deserved the Oscar.
I will play “What do you want me to do? Dress in drag & do the hula?” scene over & over.
Great extras-a well done DVD package.
My 1 point on that though-what is the deal with the unnecessary, done for the DVD package by nobody’s
What's great about it: A great classic film
What's not so great: Why these unnecessary music video’s?

WKRP In Cincinnati was a sitcom that managed to survive being moved through at least six different timeslots in four seasons, and lasted long enough to make it into syndication and to get revived a decade after its original run. It won its set of awards for content, and was, indeed, one of the more rewarding network sitcoms of its period, recalling aspects of The Dick Van Dyke Show in some respects. This reviewer hadn't seen it often in syndication, mostly because many of the episodes were cut so severely that they weren't worth watching. This DVD package should be an answer to that problem where the first season is concerned, but, in fact, is only a partial solution. The running times of the shows have been restored, but not the source music -- that's an important caveat for those who are wedded to the original rock 'n' roll numbers depicted as being played on the air at the station; to this reviewer, it wasn't a particular problem, as the source music was only incidental to the program's appeal; other viewers feel differently, however, and there have been lots of complaints from fans about the producers' inability to re-license a lot of the music played at the series' WKRP. But there has been other music lost from the soundtrack, most notably a three-second quotation from Jerry Goldsmith's score for Patton, in the episode "Master Arthur Carlson", that made for one of the funniest moments in the entire run of the series, in an episode that was, otherwise, one of its more serious shows. But if one can get past problems such as that, it is a pleasure to see the show reasonably intact once again -- and as an added bonus, the first half of the pilot episode comes with a commentary track by series creator Hugh Wilson and cast members Frank Bonner and Loni Anderson. They speak with great warmth and affection about the show and their fellow cast members -- especially the late Gordon Jump -- and recall elements of the production that weren't always obvious at the time. The other major bonus feature are a pair of short films, which include Tim Reid, Bonner, and Anderson as well as Wilson, which focus on different aspects of the series' production. "Do My Eyes Say Yes?" is devoted to Anderson's character Jennifer Marlowe; and "A Fish Story" has to do with Wilson's effort at giving the network the kind of zany, silly humor that they requested -- ironically enough, the resulting episode earned huge ratings, which was not the result that Wilson had in mind. These aren't much more than montages with a few wraparound quotations, but the shots excerpted are so funny that they're worth seeing and they do reveal some aspects of the performers', producer's, and writers' approach to the series. Otherwise, the program has been treated well, with chapter-breaks mostly positioned conveniently -- though why the producers couldn't consistently allow us to jump from the pre-credit teaser over the opening credits, instead of breaking in on the opening as happens on some episodes, is beyond this reviewer's understanding; it's as though someone wasn't paying attention to this basic element of disc programming. On the positive side, the sound is mastered at a decent volume and is clear and sharp, which helps a great deal in appreciating the episode "Commercial Break", in which the station personnel record an upbeat jingle for a chain of funeral homes. The full-screen (1.33-to-1) image is consistent throughout and, indeed, superior to anything seen in the heavily cut syndicated version of the series. The three discs each open automatically to a simple, easy-to-use multi-layered menu in which the special features are separated from the episode lists.

5 star rating for the original show-NOT the DVD package
I loved this show. Always watched it & looked forward to each episode.
A family favorite.
I bought this set as soon as it was released in April 2007.
Will rewatch episodes.
Great characters in the show.
The big let downs for the DVD package:
1. OF COURSE the original music edited out. This was the hold back for the series being released on DVD. 1 particular episode “ A Date with Jennifer” it loses impact to me when originally we saw Les Nesman putting on the toupee he bought with Foreigner’s “Hot Blooded” playing along. It is terrible that new music ruins a very funny scene.
Looking forward to the other 3 seasons of the show.
Needed more cast interviews. How few of the cast members were interviewed. That was disappointing.
What's great about it: Great show
What's not so great: terrible without original music

The Kardashian sisters feel the impact of celebrity in this season, when Khloé must deal with the very public aftermath of her DUI, while Kim and Kourtney contend with sibling rivalry as their professional and personal relationships blur.

Guilty pleasure, MUCH IMPROVED OVER SEASON 2
By CKCSWHFFAN from home
Yes, the show is a guilty pleasure.
Episodes that aired in 2009. 12 episodes this season
Now, THE IMPROVEMENTS. 1. The episodes are wide screen, 2. Disc 1 has deleted scenes & 3. Disc 2 has commentary for episodes. Why not with each episode-no clue about that. But it is MUCH better than the blog from Rob on season 2.
Now, this time out apparently there are ONLY 3 Kardashians in this season. Kourtney, Kim & Khloe are only shown on both sides of the DVD case. BOTH discs have the same photo of them. So, they do NOT give credit to Kris, Bruce, Rob, Kendall & Kylie? Show is called Keeping Up With The Kardashians NOT Keeping Up With The Kardashian Sisters.
1 big mistake done again on this DVD. Same CHEAP, PLASTIC DVD CASE WITH THE INTENTIONAL HOLES IN IT. CHEAP & NOT SAFE. Apparently the DVD makers just want people to buy this over & over again since the DVD are NOT safely secure.
And, a point for anyone. There was MASS CONFUSION ABOUT THE RELEASE DATE OF THIS DVD. It was released 8-17-10. Some stores & websites changed the date until 9-21-10. THIS WAS UNTRUE. I purchased the DVD from a local store 8-18-10. So, make sure IF you want it check with the store. DO NOT GO BY PRINTED MATERIAL
