I have always enjoyed this film. Being a Disney fan it is hard not to. But, it is NOT among their best in my opinion. Remember, the 1st complete animated release after Walt’s passing in December 1966. He had worked on the MUCH better The Jungle Book.
When I saw there was going to be this special edition I normally really love Disney’s special edition or Platinum DVD releases.
Man, what a disappointment. For the price.
Only a 1 disc package. WHERE IS THE 2CD DISC WITH SOME GOOD EXTRAS?
There is no ’Making of” or “Behind the Scenes” on the film. I normally really enjoy watching these.
Good to have the film in wide screen.
About ½ of the “extras” on this 1 DISC DVD PACKAGE, AGAIN SAYING SPECIAL EDITION, were just fun activities for kids. How about the adults? ONLY kids want Disney films on DVD?
Let’s hope Disney does a better job the next time they release this film on DVD.
Like most of Michael Mann's films, The Insider is an extremely stylish character study, and the excellent 2.35:1 widescreen presentation of the movie on this DVD allows it to make maximum emotional impact. It's hard to say which is better: the excellent, moody Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio or the colorful, beautiful way the visuals have translated to DVD. The music of Lisa Gerrard and Pieter Bourke is quite magical up against the pretty visuals, whether the score is indulging in evocative, bombastic form or simply flowing in ambient layers. Supplemental features include a short, glossy production featurette, the widescreen theatrical trailer, and a feature called "Inside a Scene," which dissects one scene from the movie, allowing a viewer to look at pre-production, shooting, and finished material. A director's commentary with Mann would have been fascinating but is nowhere to be found. Still, the movie stands on its own merits. The Insider is full of subtle power in this DVD edition.
This film was one of the first on DVD I ever bought.
GREAT film. Should have won the Oscar for Best Picture instead of nudie American Beauty.
And, FOR SURE Russell should have won the Best Actor Oscar.
Film is over long. How many scenes did we need to see Al's character yelling at people? TOO much of that.
Bruce McGill (D Day from Animal House) is in it shortly. Of course he worked with Russell again in a bigger part in Cinderella Man. He has turned into a good character actor.
A notable for TV fans. Gary Sandy (Andy in WKRP) is in 2 scenes & has a couple of lines. ONLY thing I remember seeing him do after the show ended.
Do need an update DVD release for the film with some extras
Joe Dante directs Tom Hanks in the cult favorite The 'Burbs, which comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include the theatrical trailer, biographies of the actors, and production notes. This is a solid release from Universal that should satisfy fans of the film.
Certainly not the best comedy ever made. Tom several years before his 2 Oscars & years after Bosom Buddies.
Something I enjoy in films is when there is at least one scene you can play multiple times. To me this film has 3 1. When Bruce Dern’s character Mark falls off his roof & shoots out the window in his car 2. "Pizza Dude!" 3. At the end when the ambulance runs into Art’s house.
Do need a new DVD package for this one with some extras.
I do not know if they still mention this at Universal Studios Hollywood but they did the film on the back lot & at least used to mention it on the tram ride.
Inspired by the popular Disneyland ride, The Haunted Mansion stars Eddie Murphy as the head of a family that finds itself vying against a group of 999 ghosts in the titular abode. Also starring Jennifer Tilly and Terence Stamp, the film comes to DVD in widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. A dubbed French audio track in Dolby Digital Stereo and Spanish are also included. Along with the feature presentation, the disc is packed with supplemental extras. Among the bells and whistles are a blooper reel, a collection of deleted scenes, a virtual tour of the mansion, and two behind-the-scenes featurettes. For viewers with DVD-ROM capabilities, there is additional bonus material, including a history of the theme-park-attraction behind the movie, a ghost maker, photo galleries, and desktop themes. A full-screen version with the same features is also available.
When this was released the fall of 2003 I had great expectations because of how much I enjoyed ‘Pirates of the Caribbean The Curse of the Black Pearl" that was released the same year.
I was let down.
Have always loved "The Haunted Mansion" attraction at Disneyland.
Eddie Murphy doing his usual role of a smart alec, pushy guy. Did not care about his character nor the kids.
Madam Leota if you are expecting an eerie vision from the attraction you will be disappointed. Jennifer Tilly just repeated some of the lines from the attraction.
The special effects were great.
They did nothing with the characters & how much can a person take of Eddie Murphy doing the same old thing?
What's great about it: Good special effects
What's not so great: Eddie Murphy doing Eddie Murphy
I have always thought this film was very funny. Basically the end of Jamie Lee Curtis & Kevin Kline’s careers. NEVER had another hit film neither of them.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of its release, National Lampoon's Vacation has been fitted out with plenty of bells and whistles for its re-release on DVD. The movie has been given a letterboxed transfer at its original widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1, which has been enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors. The original English-language soundtrack has been mastered in Dolby Digital Mono, as are alternate audio tracks in French, Portuguese, and Spanish; the disc also includes optional subtitles in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. Bonus material includes an introduction from cast members Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid, a "Family Truckster and Roof Rack" featurette, the original theatrical trailer, and a commentary track in which the "Griswold Family" discussing their onscreen adventures with director Harold Ramis.
The 1st of the 4 vacation films is the best. I think most people will agree with me on that. The late John Candy’s role was too small, did not give him that much to do.
Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) was best in this one & ONLY NEEDED in this film. Bringing him back for the 3rd & 4th films was unnecessary.
Good to have this edition so the film could be seen wide screen.
Have NEVER been a fan of the nudity in the film. Beverly needed to keep her clothes on.
Package Description: Tim Burton's Corpse Bride carries on in the dark romantic tradition of his classic Edward Scissorhands and Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Set in a 19th-century European village, this stop-motion animated feature follows the story of Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp), a young man whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride (voiced by Helena Bonham Carter), while his real bride Victoria (voiced by Emily Watson) waits bereft in the land of the living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colorful than his strict upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world -- or the next -- that can keep him away from his one true love. It's a tale of optimism, romance and in very lively afterlife, told in classic Burton style.
Loaded with original supplements (if not that elusive director's commentary track), the DVD of L.A. Confidential makes its mark as one of the better DVDs in the early development of the format, but leaves something to be desired in the age of the two-disc special edition. Warner DVD made a valiant attempt at a feature-loaded DVD and presented the film in anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen and Dolby Digital. Present are three documentaries (all which fall under the half-hour mark), trailers, TV spots, and a music-only track for Jerry Goldsmith's score. The first documentary, Off the Record, focuses primarily on the task of translating James Ellroy's novel to the screen, but also includes some rare screen tests. Second is a video version of the original photo pitch that Curtis Hanson gave the producers, conveying through pictures of L.A. in the '50s the movie he wanted to make. Lastly, there is a feature that allows the viewer to take a virtual tour -- narrated by the director -- of the Los Angeles of the film by selecting a location from a map menu. While not an authoritative edition of the film, the L.A. Confidential DVD remains one of the best early special edition discs.
I heard the film was good. I read the reviews before I saw it. NEVER read the book. After reading the reviews & seeing clips that was the reason I watched it the 1st time.
It was this film I first heard about Russell Crowe.
Became a fan the moment I saw him. And, he is my age.
Very good film. And, SHOULD have won the Best Picture Oscar that year. NOT that “boat movie”.
Cast was very good although I disliked Guy Pearce’s character, the “goodie” cop.
The DVD is the same version that came out on laser disc. Do we remember those? A new version with more extras is needed.
Was NOT a fan of the brief nude scenes, those are NEVER necessary.
What's great about it: SHOULD have won Best Picture
Hugh Wilson's comedy The First Wives Club comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, and Dolby Digital Surround. Spanish subtitles are accessible, and the soundtracks are both closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include the theatrical trailer. This is a solid release from Paramount that boasts strong sound quality.
I have always enjoyed the movie. Funny, good scenes in it. DID get over hyped when released September 1996.
Did NOT like Keaton’s character or that of the daughter. That was NOT needed.
Quotable line. When Goldie’s character is upset & goes to the bar and gets drunk. Talking to the bartender about what happened when she spoke to the director about the film he wanted her for she starts talking about actresses who would have been perfect for it then makes this mistake with the come back “Sean Connery “ “He’s 300 years old but he’s still a stud”. Love that bit.
Unusual for films now a ways that it has only been released once to DVD. I was disappointed about the lack of extras on it.
Hey film makers? How about a new release with extras!!
Rating for the film NOT the DVD package which needs to be redone.
What's great about it: Funny & gets it’s point across
The Kardashian sisters feel the impact of celebrity in this season, when Khloé must deal with the very public aftermath of her DUI, while Kim and Kourtney contend with sibling rivalry as their professional and personal relationships blur.
Overall4 out of 5
Guilty pleasure, MUCH IMPROVED OVER SEASON 2
ByCKCSWHFFANfromhome
Yes, the show is a guilty pleasure.
Episodes that aired in 2009. 12 episodes this season
Now, THE IMPROVEMENTS. 1. The episodes are wide screen, 2. Disc 1 has deleted scenes & 3. Disc 2 has commentary for episodes. Why not with each episode-no clue about that. But it is MUCH better than the blog from Rob on season 2.
Now, this time out apparently there are ONLY 3 Kardashians in this season. Kourtney, Kim & Khloe are only shown on both sides of the DVD case. BOTH discs have the same photo of them. So, they do NOT give credit to Kris, Bruce, Rob, Kendall & Kylie? Show is called Keeping Up With The Kardashians NOT Keeping Up With The Kardashian Sisters.
1 big mistake done again on this DVD. Same CHEAP, PLASTIC DVD CASE WITH THE INTENTIONAL HOLES IN IT. CHEAP & NOT SAFE. Apparently the DVD makers just want people to buy this over & over again since the DVD are NOT safely secure.
And, a point for anyone. There was MASS CONFUSION ABOUT THE RELEASE DATE OF THIS DVD. It was released 8-17-10. Some stores & websites changed the date until 9-21-10. THIS WAS UNTRUE. I purchased the DVD from a local store 8-18-10. So, make sure IF you want it check with the store. DO NOT GO BY PRINTED MATERIAL
