Solid Bluetooth keyboard for Apple users
on September 9, 2020
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
This new iteration of the Logitech MX Keys for Mac keyboard is a solid choice for those who need/want a sleek, long-lasting, bluetooth keyboard for on-the-go use.
Unboxing and setup is very easy, thanks to guided instructions for different types of devices. Once connected, a unique feature of the MX Keys is Flow, which pairs up with Mac devices to automatically switch computers based on where your mouse is.
Backlighting turns on once your hands get close to the keyboard, which is actually nicer than just having backlight on the whole time (and saves battery life). Speaking of battery life, Logitech claims 10-days of use, and I’ve gone 7-days thus far on the same charge, so seems close to that number.
Typing is solid (better than the previous MacBook Pro keyboard, for sure), and feels nicer than a standard membrane keyboard thanks to dish-shaped keys. The Space Grey version looks sleek and perfectly matches any other Space Grey Apple device.
Overall, there aren’t really any cons to the keyboard, except possibly price if you think $100 is too rich for something like this. Plus, it is heavy due to the metal construction (can be a pro or a con depending on what you need in a wireless keyboard.)
That said, I’d happily recommend this to anyone.

Great headset, buggy software
on August 24, 2020
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
This is a great wireless gaming headset, with a lot of options to customize should you want to. The real downside is the surprisingly buggy Logitech software.
To start off, the headset is easy to set up and feels like a premium product upon unboxing. The headset is sleek and has the right amount of heft. Simply plug in the receiver and you're set. The software starts downloading straight away and once done you can set up things how you like.
Wireless range was about 30 feet, and battery life is as-advertised at roughly 16 hours of use on a single charge. Overall comfort is good; not quite you can't feel them after 3 hours of use good, but nothing was ever too tight or too sweaty.
As for sound, I wouldn't say these are reference headphones, but they do work well enough for quality music listening, along with gaming and the other applications. For gaming sound, though, the different adjustments you can make to tweak each surround sound area is a nice addition.
The software for me has crashed twice, ramped my CPU usage up to 99% twice, and was difficult to navigate, in my opinion.
Other than this, these are a quality set of headphones, and I would recommend them.

Very solid mechanical keyboard
on July 1, 2020
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
Overall, the latest wireless mechanical keyboard from Logitech is a great addition to anyone's keyboard collection.
Finally, Logitech has started using different switch types for their keyboards, namely from Kailh, which is a great addition for its keyboards. This allows the keyboard to have a very nice feel, with the tactile bump on the bottom, but maintain some modding ability. The sound is very clean and crisp, if that’s important to you, and the white box switches aren’t as loud as other clicky switches, either. Plus, If you ever want to switch out the key-caps, having the Kailh Low Profile "Choc" White switches makes this easier in the long run. Although, Logitech‘s stock key caps feel nice enough.
The low profile design of the keyboard in the keys makes it very sleek, looks very nice, and makes it lighter as well. never use a low profile keyboard, they’ll be a little bit of a change, But once you’re used to it you’ll find that less distance between key-presses can actually help for longer gaming or typing sessions. There’s enough buttons like the volume slider, function keys, to make this feel like a full-size keyboard.
Really, there isn’t much to dislike about this particular keyboard. The battery life is solid, the switches are a perfect choice for every day use, The RGB works well, the build quality is excellent, and it gets Logitech support. There’s not much else you need to recommend a keyboard, even though it’s slightly on the expensive side.

Amazing soundbar, exceeded expectations
on June 22, 2020
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
I'll start this off by saying this is the best soundbar I've ever used, period. That statement doesn't come lightly, as I've tested over 10 different ones through the past three years or so, trying to find the perfect one for my bedroom TV system.
Finally, the search is over.
Again, I'll preface everything that I'm saying with regards to sound being the utmost priority; I have a nicer 7.1.2 sound system set up in my "theater" room but am aware of the space real speakers take up. I didn't want that in my bedroom so finding a good soundbar was the option I would concede.
Enter the JBL BAR 9.1 soundbar.
First off, the appearance is solid. It looks and feels like a premium piece of tech, which is good.
One of my bigger complaints with any soundbar system is the subwoofer, so I was surprised at how deep the 10" could dig. Not quite a separate subwoofer material, but considering a decent sub starts at $400 by itself I'd count this as good.
There are many different sound modes to play around with, and the setup was pretty easy. Getting the mimic of Dolby Atmos sound is tough to do, and while I don't think the implementation is perfect, this JBL soundbar certainly does a better job than other bars I've used in the past.
One of the conveniences I didn't think I'd appreciate was the easily-removable rear wireless speakers. They're easy to swap and turn on, should you want them (and you should), but don't take up space or need to be plugged into work.
The only real con that makes this a tough sell is the price: at $1000, it certainly isn't cheap. But, you're paying for quality sound and that's something that is hard to quantify (if you appreciate it in the first place)
Overall, there really isn't much to not like here, and overall I'd recommend this JBL soundbar to most people.

Good wireless headphones, bad app
on April 22, 2020
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
The headphones are pretty good, and if a couple things were changed they’d be outstanding. Overall, as the sound quality is very good, the packaging is great, the headphones look sleek, and overall the package is enticing. However, the biggest drawback to these headphones right now is the app that you need to use to fully control the headphones.
Starting out, the overall package oozes quality and the charging case works beautifully. Battery life is exactly what was expected after my week of use, netting about 26 hours worth of listening over that time; individual charges last approximately six hours or so, which I find good.
Moving on, the build quality seems good and the metal in certain areas give it a premium look. Plus, the buds don’t really protrude out from your ear.
I’ve had a hard time with touch controls on wireless headphones in the past, so this was good and a welcome addition. They weren’t any accidental touches unless I pulled the headphones out, and overall responsiveness was good. I've also taken these on three runs so far, and they’ve never fallen out and the comfort quality is pretty good for roughly 4 hour sessions. Anything longer than that and my ears did start to hurt a little bit, but that also could be a product of not having the other silicone ear selection choices come in my Momentum 2 packaging.
In terms of sound, you’re probably going to pick these up and feel like the quality is great from a small wireless earbud. This is what you should expect from Sennheiser, and the Momentum 2 do not disappoint. The only disappointing thing is tweaking the equalizer, which can only be done through the Smart Control app, which is slow and sometimes non-responsive. Also, as far as I’m concerned, there aren’t any additional presets to choose from, which is a bit of a letdown.
Getting into the app, this is the biggest drawback and hardest reason why it might be challenging to recommend these headphones. Currently, the Smart Control app seems like a mess, with certain selections like transparent audio turning off and turning back on randomly, equalizer being non-responsive, etc. You need it to use the headphones to the full potential, so some fixes would be nice.
Overall, the sound is clear, the bass pretty good and the only weakness to me of these headphones are the mid range due to the bass being a tad heavy and muddled when you first turn them on at the default preset settings. Otherwise, there’s a rich almost but not too warm sound to these buds. I never had any issues with connectivity and they always stayed paired to my phone turning him on and off was a breeze and I never had to reconnect them during my time so far. The only drawback to me is using the app interface and I hope that Sennheiser devotes a little bit more time and effort into smoothing out that experience for future headphones.

Best vacuum I own, hands down
on March 5, 2020
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
The Dyson V11 Outside vacuum is the best vacuum I've ever owned, beating out the previous stick and upright vacuums from the same company that I've previously used.
I won't talk about suction power, ease of use, or the professional feel of the vacuum; mainly due to this being what Dyson vacuums are already known for.
What I will tell you about are the smart features Dyson's latest stick and why they make a difference in certain situations.
First up, the inclusion of two full-size batteries is great, along with two chargers. This means you'll never have an issue running out of battery life during a clean. The batteries themselves last for a long time in Normal mode, with my cleaning throughout the past week-plus only draining one-and-a-half batteries using it every day for at least six minutes. This is a huge draw of this vacuum and I commend Dyson's efforts to get the most battery life with powerful suction.
Moving on, the smart floor technology, dubbed Dyson Dynamic Load Sensor, is pretty neat. The vacuum automatically detects and adjusts suction power for differing surfaces, making it easy for us with hardwood and carpet or rugs together to switch between them without any loss of power. I found this feature to work great, and not be a gimmick.
The V11 Outside Tech also uses a full-size cleaner head and full-size bin, which makes the vacuum a little more cumbersome than previous sticks of theirs, but the tradeoff is less time cleaning. I really appreciated this portion.
This wouldn't really matter if there wasn't a powerful motor behind the suction, but there is. Dyson Hyperdymium, as they call it, is a new technology that improves performance across the board, and I believe this to be true. I actually think the V11 Outside Tech cleans better than my four-year-old Dyson Animal 2 Ball upright vacuum. Plus, the motor is really quiet for how much power there is, and this was appreciated.
To top everything off, the V11 Outside Tech even has an LCD screen to clearly show you the battery life remaining. It also comes with numerous attachments to make cleaning your whole home, car, etc. easier.
Overall, I wouldn't trade this vacuum for any other, currently. Between it taking care of my child's, cat's and my own messes, this is one of my favorite pieces of technology and cleaning that I now own.

Best Speakers I've Ever Owned
on February 5, 2020
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
The speakers are very good, end of the story.
There’s not really anything to complain about, other than the suggested price. They to go on sale a few times a year, and thus I would recommend waiting until they go on sale to maximize the value you’re getting here.
Overall, the Q350 bookshelf by KEF is a fantastic speaker if you value clarity, and amazing soundstage, and spatial sound overall. These are not going to be the greatest speakers for face lovers, as the low-end is not the greatest, and if you prefer a warm sound these are also probably not going to sound the best to your ears, as the sound isIs very true to life.
I also believe this speaker is it shine more in audio setups with higher quality audio files really bringing out the sound, but you also will need a powerful amp to drive them, they perform their best the louder they get. All music types sounded great and I seriously have no complaints in that regard. I have mine paired with a decent subwoofer and that really helps even out the sound.
One thing to note is that these are heavy speakers and their larger than your standard bookshelf if you’re used to a smaller cabinet. On the other hand, these speakers look amazing, especially if you have a more modern or BoHo-styled room.
The style of sound reproduction definitely takes a little getting used to depending on what speakers are coming from, but I found that after a week of listening to my ears could really tell the difference of what a clear, detailed, and concise soundstage would represent when driven at the right volume and amp.
My only real complaint about the speakers, if there is one and I’m kind of just digging here, is that they lack in the home theater/movie department. This isn’t to say they’re bad just with their base response they can leave a little bit lacking at times.
I’m not an audiophile by any means, but I have value on my speakers sound like as I love to listen to music and watch movies on my home theater system, and these are by far the best speakers I’ve owned. I’ve used Klipsch, Sony, Polk, and JBL speakers during my journey for the perfect pair, and I feel like I'll be content for quite a while with the KEF Q350.

Cool Concept, Poor Execution
on November 21, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
First off, if you're getting this for a true gym replacement, I don't think this is the answer.
Overall, you'll find a hearty piece of exercise equipment that will go well for toning/using bodyweight style workouts, but will be disappointed in the workout videos and guides Gorilla Bow implements.
First off, the idea of a "traveling gym" is a tough egg to crack, as everyone's workouts different. I wanted to try this Bow out in conjunction with my running routine.
So, the idea of resistance training was perfect, as I've never been trying to bulk up; rather using the training to sculpt.
Setup and unpacking are easy enough, once you get used to using the bands, but finding workout guides and videos is the tricky part. Honestly, after doing about 30 minutes of digging, I was still left trying to figure out certain basic workouts and how to safely do them (which makes sense considering the bands are really putting out force when stretched.)
I found their guides on their website, but the information is basic and left me wanting more and without any deep explanations.
If Gorilla Bow could figure out a better way to show you how to use this tool, I think it would work better. They provide all the band power necessary to get a deep workout if you want (and I did, on different occasions) but I just kept wishing for more exercises to try.
I wouldn't recommend this until the company produces better video content or written walkthroughs with pictures (also non-existent).

A Cool Idea Implemented Well
on November 21, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
Overall, this is a cool little device.
Downloading an app to instantly print out your own photos in Polaroid form, and one that I was skeptical would work at first.
But, after trying out different phones and phototypes, it's safe to say that Polaroid accomplished something cool here. The initial setup is a little confusing, but the directions walk you through everything as best they can.
One thing to note is that Polaroid recommends removing a screen protector when using the device, but in reality, you don't need to follow this rule. Of course, if you have any cracks or scraps on your screen it will show up in photos.
The photos print fast and develop quickly, and the app interface is easy to use and makes sense once you use it once.
The only real drawback here is that the printer itself is big, and it would be a little cumbersome to drag around all the time if your plan was to take it everywhere or during your travels.
Battery life is solid, and I never had problems connecting.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend this.

The Best Productivity Mouse Around
on October 29, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
The MX Master Series mouse is my favorite work mouse to-date, so I jumped at the opportunity to use try out the newest iteration: MX Master 3.
Overall, this is a great mouse. The new scroll wheel is awesome (change to fast-magnetic scrolling the faster you scroll), and the slight change in button placement is nicer, and more user-friendly.
The design is also top-notch, and hard to find any fault in (unless you're left-handed.) It's ergonomic and perfect for all-day use, and the buttons are customizable if wanted (via Logi Option.) Plus, the mouse feels premium with good weight distribution as well.
Battery life is great (I've only needed to charge the mouse once in 30 days), and the USB-C charging is also appreciated.
Overall, the only real downside is cost here. That aside, this is one of the best mice out there, period.
