Solid Entry Level TT

Overall, this is a great beginner or secondary turntable for the money. There's a great realm of features that make it the perfect stepping stone for someone getting into the hobby, which is perfect.
Sound quality is very good for the price, and the material quality also satisfies. The platter is aluminum and all the parts appear easy to work on. Including the preamp makes it that much simpler to setup as well.
The only reason I knock this one star is due to the cartridge not being replaceable (to my knowledge), which means you're stuck with the same quality for the life of the table. Also, the phono cables are pre-built meaning you're limited to the length of that wiring for any NON-BT speakers.
Overall, the player is nice for a secondary location that won't be used at much, or for those looking to play a few records every now and again.

Great Cameras that Could Be Improved
on April 7, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus

Overall, these are solid, good cameras for your house or business. Easy to set up and use if you follow the instructions, you'll be feeling more secure in no-time. The only gripes that I found are with the camera's angle, and connecting to the not-so-great mobile app was a pain.
From the start, you can tell these cameras are built to last and withstand the elements. They're heavy, and just looking at them may be enough to stop an intruder from entering.
The system provides coverage for up to four cameras, which is nice should you ever want to upgrade. The picture is solid, and I rarely found a dropped line or outage. Only when I was installing/moving the cameras around did they stutter to connect.
The standalone box that houses the storage and system is small enough to store wherever needed, but is recommended that you plug-in directly to your router for the best results.
In terms of drawbacks, the biggest things for me are the field of view from the provided cameras and the hard-to-use mobile app.
As of now, I still can't get remote viewing to work even 50% of the time, which is a bummer. I didn't choose this system for mobile applications, but still, I'd expect it to work better here. Each camera has a slimmer angle than you might expect, so choosing the correct position for optimal coverage is crucial.
Remember, because this is a dedicated system, you'll need an external monitor to view your feed live. Invest in a cheap monitor and you'll be good to go.
Overall though, accessing the menu on the system box itself is fine, albeit a little archaic. The cameras are quick and don't drop a signal, and the picture is clear enough to see. I'd recommend for anyone looking to add some extra security around.

Perfect Cookware for Smaller Space
on April 7, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus

This is a great set of cookware for any household but is extremely beneficial for those with smaller kitchens.
Overall, these pots and pans are built like tanks. They're heavy, and you can feel the craftsmanship on them. There are six pieces total, with four lids, which should be enough variation for most people.
The non-stick hard-anodized coating is a dream, and once you use it there's no going back to traditional stainless or even cast iron unless you need to. Clean up is a breeze, and the lifetime warranty puts any problems at bay.
Calphalon has done it again in the kitchen scene, and I would definitely recommend these to anyone. Just wait for a sale!

Great Camera Monitor, But Paid Monitoring
on March 15, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus

So, overall this is a great baby monitor. The camera is detailed and holds up in dark rooms, the wide-angle makes it easy to keep track of your babe, and the setup and slimness make it perfect for over the crib.
The design of this camera/stand is great: everything, including wires, is held together by sturdy construction and piping and is quick to put together.
The camera is accessed via a downloadable app. You must create an account to do so. From here, you can view the camera's live feed, which is only delayed by half-a-second, at most. I found this to be great, as my other two monitors are not as fast.
That said, sometimes, since this is wi-fi and internet-based, the connection could drop or freeze up. It doesn't happen often, but can, and happened probably three times during the week.
The biggest drawbacks, though, are the infrared lights and paid monitoring methods. In order to truly get the most out of your Nanit, you must pay for a membership to access the sleep data from your baby.
Now, some people may not have a problem with this, but I thought that a free year or even 6-months, is better than the 30-days they give you. Overall, it's really just a beautiful camera system without the monitoring activated.
Also. if your baby is like mine, they'll be able to see some of the red lights on when in the dark. There are a lot of them, needed to make the picture quality good I'd imagine, but that means more to look at.
All this said it's still a great system. The paid membership does actually provide valuable data and insights on your baby, and the product does seem like a quality investment.

Microwaving has evolved! When it comes to everything you expect in a microwave, nothing compares with the defrosting, cooking, and reheating capability of the new Cyclonic Wave. At every temperature level, Cyclonic Wave circulates heat in precision, ultra-efficient 3D waves for easier, more versatile food preparation, even with denser, more complex food textures. This exceptional microwave also includes patented Inverter Technology. Unlike traditional microwaves that rely on pulse-on, pulse-off power at lower temperatures, Inverter Technology delivers a constant stream of cooking power at every temperature. The result? More evenly cooked meals — edges to centers — every time. Put together, Cyclonic Wave with Inverter Technology provides the fastest, most efficient way to enjoy perfectly prepared snacks, sides, and meals across a broader range of cooking techniques, while also maintaining more of the natural nutrients and flavor you want. Best Microwave I've Owned
on January 28, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus

I never realized how much a quality microwave could make a difference. We've had a standard, $50 Sunbeam model for about two years, and never thought anything of it. We never used the microwave everyday, and we cooked alright. Now, though, we use this Prestige Plus microwave almost everyday, and don't feel bad about it.
Setup is simple, and really just plug and play.
I'd recommend reading the manual, as it can get confusing to note all the different functions upon inception. Plus, all the modes and buttons are confusing at first.
Once you've familiarized yourself, though, the cooking becomes easy, and your food tastes miles better.
There is serious power in this microwave, which helps in producing the sensor cook functions and really giving you even heating. There are too many modes to list, but I've already used half of them, because they were there. No more guessing on if something is done or not; this kitchen device does it for you.
Sure, you still need to use your judgement on coffee reheats or popcorn, but for almost everything else, it's hard to dismiss the beauty and power of this machine.
I'm shocked at how much better the food I cook or reheat tastes in this oven, and the nutrients and flavors I've been missing out on over the years. Plus, while there is a bigger version of this device, the 1.6 cu. ft. version is plenty large, accommodating two salad plates at once.
If you're like me and never had the luxury of using a nice microwave, you owe it to yourself to see the other side. I'm very glad I did.

Solid Pair of Radios
on January 28, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
Overall, these walkie-talkies, as most will refer to them as, will fit the needs of anyone wanting an inexpensive product for up in the forest or mountains.
PROS:
-Small and lightweight mean that they don't take up much space or weight in your pack
-Easy to use and setup, simply plug the battery into the compartment
-Range is decent without any interference (more later)
-Multiple channels for different uses
-Belt clip seems sturdy
-Realistic, city range is about 2-miles, at most
-Good build quality
CONS
-Channels 8-14 are low power output, meaning at higher distances they will be ineffective
-Can stretch to 10 miles if you're up the mountain or down in a valley, away from city radios
-No rubber grips for added comfort
Overall, these are a good pair of radios, and will fit the needs of most people. The only reason I deduct a star is due to the claimed 23-mile distance, which simply doesn't hold true in all but the purest circumstances.

Great Mouse, Buggy Software
on January 11, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
This is really a 4.5 star review.
Overall, the Razer Mamba Wireless is a great mouse. The sensor and battery life are exceptional, with the battery lasting a solid 35-hours throughout the week (staying true to Razer's claim of 40).
Setup is quick and easy, the USB dongle connected right to my mouse. In order to use the RGB lighting effects (which are subtle), you'll need to install the Razer Synapse 3 (more on that later.)
Build feels good overall, and no loose clicks or button presses. Scroll wheel could be better, but nothing to scoff at.
The only real cons that come with this mouse are the switch build quality, and the buggy Razer Synapse 3 software. Don't get me wrong, when everything works, it's seamless. The problem is that the it's smooth about 80% of the time. Who wants to deal with software problems with their mouse? Issues I've faced include profiles not saving, having to uninstall and reinstall (three times since having the mouse), and even reached out to Razer support about the issues.
Support is great, thankfully, so know that they'll take care of you should you need it.
At the end of the day, it's a great mouse that should last awhile, and the software should get better over time.

Great Cans for the Price
on December 12, 2018
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
Overall, if you've been looking for a good-sounding pair of headphones, these Audio Technica cans may just be for you.
Quick good things:
-Overall solid sound profile. Bass is deep, and smooth, not rattling or washed out, overall lows are good. Mids are decent, but to my ears the weakest point of the headphones. Highs come through clean and crisp.
-Batter life. Seriously, best BT battery on any headphones I've ever used. AT claims 40 hours and I never have had to fear the battery would run out. Easily getting 30+ per charge. BT never seemed to change the way audio sounded, either, so AT figured out a way to implement this and preserve the sound profile.
-Only charged once in the two weeks I've had them (two hours a day listening, at least)
-Comfort. I might have a small head, as this is the biggest knock on the M50x, but I found the clasp and pressure to be fine for two hours at a time. Never used for longer than that yet, however.
Cons:
-Some may find the fit having too much pressure.
-Some may not like the closed back design.
-Some may not need BT and would be better off with the M50x normal version.
-Only one style of 3.5mm cable (M50x comes with 3 sizes and styles)
-Some may think they're bulky.
Really though, these are a great BT headphone for the price. The passive NC is great due to the closed back design, and sound quality is top-notch for the price. Wholly recommended.
Just remember to try out any headphone, when possible, before buying.

Google Home Mini w/ Smart Lighting = Great
on December 10, 2018
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
It's hard to knock Google's smart home line. These devices really make tasks easier, provided you have the right gear to utilize them. This package is precisely what you need for a taste of the smart home life.
Installing the Google Home Mini and GE Smart Light was a breeze.
All you do is download the Google Home app on your phone, plug in the Home Mini where you want it, and then follow some quick steps on the app and everything will be set up.
Pairing the light and Mini is easy, and a streamlined process through the app itself. The light simply plugs into anywhere a bulb is required, and then the instructions are followed via app to make it work.
Overall, both the bulb and Mini seem very well made, and once you invest into smart home technology you'll wonder why you didn't do so sooner.
This is the perfect beginning bundle to test out if smart tech is right for you.

Solid PC for 1080p Gaming + All Multimedia Work
on December 3, 2018
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
This is really a 4.5 star review.
Overall, I'm happy with this HP desktop. It's got the power needed to handle many different multimedia applications and programs, decent enough storage options, and solid 1080p gaming. The only things that hold this back is size, as there are limited upgrade options should you ever choose to do so.
First off, this is a small computer. It's light at 15 or so pounds, and is almost half the size of a "gaming" full-size tower.
This is good if it's something you want, but keep in mind that a smaller case can make it harder to work inside, should you ever do so.
The real goodies of this bundle come from the AMD Ryzen processor, Samsung memory, and the Radeon RX GPU. This processor is all most people will ever need it, and can handle multimedia whenever needed. It also means that when gaming you won't find any bottlenecking happening due to the processor.
My unit featured standard Samsung memory (16GB) in the two DIMM slots. This is better than other manufacturers for onboard RAM.
The GPU is an OEM Radeon 580, which is perfect for most 1080p gaming. Keep in mind that the OEM doesn't look as flashy, perform as well (blower style fan), or have great cooling as aftermarket units, but that doesn't mean you can't use it. It's great for lighter games, and can push most games on medium or high in 1080p no problem.
The biggest cons are: PSU is lacking additional power, and smaller case makes getting to certain components like hard drive and SSD tougher. It should fit a full-size GPU, however, but the PSU probably won't be able to push it.
In the end, this is a recommended PC, provided you get it on sale. I wouldn't pay the standard MSRP, but for $700-800, you've got a solid machine for all types of work.
