The Beurer BR60 Insect Bite Healer uses natural heat to dissolve saliva, venom, and other irritants caused by insect bites. Direct heat application via a ceramic hot plate acceleratres the body's natural healing response to reduce itching and swelling, chemical-free. There is a 6 second application time for regular use, or a short 3 second treatment for sensitive skin. For best results, use immediately after insect bites. Suitable to soothe all types of insects bites like mosquito, spider, bee, chigger, flea, bed bug, wasp, ants, etc. For adults and kids ages 12+ with adult supervision.

From skeptic to believer…

I figured this thing was a total scam, and got one just to prove that it didn’t work… well, I was wrong… to my surprise, this thing actually works. And it works well.
It runs on two AAA batteries, which are thoughtfully included. Small on/off switch and an appropriately sized activation button. The activation button also has a two-segment circular light around it, which indicates whether you’ve selected 3 (half-circle) or 6 (full-circle) seconds of treatment. Press the button once for 3 seconds or double-press for 6. Simple as can be.
The idea is, as soon as practical after you get a bite/sting, you treat it with this device. Hold the ceramic part of the device on the bite, then single/double press (depending on if you want 3 or 6 seconds of treatment) the activation button.
You WILL feel an intense heat during the treatment! It isn’t unbearable, for most, but it certainly isn’t comfortable. In fact, it’s intense enough that I’m not sure how well children would tolerate it. That said, if you can handle the few seconds of the uncomfortable feeling, it’s SO worth it. I got one doozy of a bite on my back (maybe a spider, not sure) and zapped it with this thing that night. Itch went away almost immediately, and I haven’t even noticed the bite since. Pretty much the same experience with every bite I’ve tried it on so far. I haven’t tried it on a bee/wasp sting though, as I’m not keen on intentionally getting stung just to try this thing, so I’m not sure how well it works for those.
Last quick note - BestBuy site says it has a lifetime warranty, but the manual says only 5 years. But even 5 years is way better than the 30-90 days most things come with these days.
Bottom line, it actually works, at least for mosquitoes. I’m even going to pick up a second one to keep in the truck.

Decent, but pricey if you'll need multiple
on September 1, 2021
Posted by: cw77
from Papillion, NE
What I liked...
Setup was easy, and if you’re already using Google Home, the integration is seamless.
-Completely wireless, and battery powered, so you don’t need to run any cables. This makes it easy to install the camera just about anywhere. The battery even had about an 80% charge, so I was able to set it up right away.
-Easy to use magnetic mount. Also has a standard camera (threaded) mount.
-Excellent picture quality. Resolution is high enough that you can decently zoom in to see a person’s face.
-You can set it to only record events when it detects people, animals, and/or vehicles, OR you can have it record any motion it detects, so there’s nice flexibility there. You can also tell it to alert you for any/all of those same events. For example, you can have it set up to record people and vehicles, but only alert you for events with people.
-Connects via your existing wireless network, so you don’t need any extra base units. Provided you have decent wifi coverage around your house, this may also allow you a little more flexibility in where you can place the camera.
-With default settings, app claims an expected battery life of 3 months. After one week of testing, it’s still at 92% charge.
What can be improved...
-No indicator of battery level (in the app anyway) while charging. You have no clue when it’s reached a full charge.
-Detection range seems more limited than my cameras from two other brands.
-Navigating to events when in the “History” view is cumbersome. It’s nice that they show an event indicator on the timeline, but they should make it easier to move from one event to another. -It needs a ‘skip to next event’ button, or something like that. If you switch to the “Full History” view, it does present all of the recent events in a nice list, so that’s some consolation. The app would benefit from fast forward/rewind x seconds buttons also.
-The audio interactions at the camera definitely need some tweaking. The person at the camera can clearly hear you when you speak through the app, but they also hear an echo of themselves when they speak to you. The echo is bad enough that it’s almost like that childhood friend that would repeat everything you said, just to be annoying.
Misc observations
-Default video setting only records up to 30 seconds of an event. This can be increased up to a maximum of 3 minutes, but at a projected cost of 1 month of battery life.
-Free plan only comes with 3 hours of video storage, but you can subscribe to Nest Aware which bumps you up to 30 days of event history. One advantage that Nest Aware has over some other competitors is one monthly subscription covers ALL of your cameras, not just a few.
Overall, the Nest Cam Outdoor is decent, but a little on the pricey side. It’s a solid camera, but if you think you’ll need more than one, there are other choices that are almost on-par, but significantly less expensive. As for some of the ‘flaws’, I imagine most can (and likely will) eventually be fixed with app/firmware updates.
As for recommending it to a friend, if they only needed one camera, I'd say yes; but if they needed multiple, I'd steer them elsewhere.

Good for a budget speaker
on June 10, 2021
Posted by: cw77

Feels solidly built, with a nice rubberized coating.
Uses USB-C, so plugging it in to charge is easy.
Has fairly decent sound, especially for a $50 speaker. You’re not going to fill a large room with quality sound, but that’s not what this is meant for. I think it would make a nice speaker for background music in a home office, or since it’s IPX7 rated, it’d make a great speaker to play tunes while you’re in the shower. Even has a detachable strap (which is surprisingly sturdy - not that thin thread junk that the connection point of most other straps are made of) so you can hang it from something.
Like every other gadget maker on the planet, Anker has an app to download. It’s not required in order to use the speaker, but you will need it if you want to adjust EQ settings, or update the speaker firmware. I will say that I appreciate that the firmware can be updated. I have a speaker from another well known electronics company (rhymes with pony) that can’t be updated, and it frequently has connectivity issues that could probably be solved with an update.
Biggest complaint would be that there’s no (apparent) easy way to tell what the battery level is. The battery life is good, as I’ve had it on for the last 8 hours trying to figure out if it will warn me the battery is about to die. My other speaker announces the approximate battery level whenever you turn it on, which is nice, so I already miss that with this one.
Overall though, for less than $50, this isn’t a bad deal.

Decent monitor, but no VESA mount
on May 19, 2021
Posted by: cw77
from Papillion, NE
The monitor has a very clean design, and should look good on just about any desktop. Has a pretty small bezel area also, at just under a quarter inch.
Has built in cable management, along the backside of the riser from the base, and was easy to get cables in. I’ve had a few other monitors that either took an engineering degree to get the cover on/off, or the channel was so tight that you felt like you were mangling the cables just to get them in.
HP says it’s eyesafe certified, which I’d never heard of before. Researched it a little bit, and it sounds like the monitor produces lower/less intense levels of bluelight. Several studies attribute high levels of bluelight exposure to eye strain, disrupted sleep patterns, and possibly even long-term damage. My eyes seem to be less irritated, but I’ve only been using the monitor for a couple of days, so it might be coincidental.
You’d think that the reduced bluelight would have a negative effect on color reproduction, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, at least not for the average user. I’d imagine some photography/graphics pros could tell a difference, but most people won’t notice a thing. Especially if they don’t have a different monitor right next to this one.
Adjustment controls are very easy to use. The buttons are discreetly placed on the underside of the monitor, so they’re pretty much unseen, yet easy to get to. Interactive menus are easy to navigate and understand.
My only real complaint is that the monitor doesn’t have VESA mounts. There are plenty of other monitors in this price range (and lower) that have VESA mounts, so not including them is disappointing.

Cleans well, but a few quirks
on April 22, 2021
Posted by: cw77
from Papillion, NE
Includes three accessory tools, but onboard storage for only two. No idea what they were thinking here. It’s great that they provide three accessories, but one of them will be of little use if you constantly have to go grab it from the closet or something. Might see if my son can 3D print some kind of adapter for me.
The rotating brush gets ‘stuck’ and stops spinning frequently on carpet, if you leave the suction control set to MAX. In order to restart the brush, you have to shut the machine off and back on. If you set the suction control to MIN, this doesn’t seem to be as much of a problem.
Very easy to assemble, and has a quick-start assembly guide right on the inside flap of the box.
Lightweight and easy to maneuver. Although you won’t be able to get very far under low furniture, unless you remove the wand and use one of the accessories. Would have been nice if you could connect the wand directly to the brush head, but oh well.
It’s easy to empty the debris chamber, however the ‘Max Fill’ line is only an inch or two from the bottom. So, although it appears to have a large debris chamber, it doesn’t actually hold very much.
The filters are easy to get to, and can be rinsed for extended use. According to the manual, you only need to change the filters every 3-5 years.
It cleans remarkably well. There’s a noticeable difference in the carpet, as compared to my previous vac.
Overall, it has a few quirks, but no show-stoppers.

Great Ultrabook for those in need of performance
on March 31, 2021
Posted by: cw77
from Papillion, NE
Pros:
Tall screen aspect ratio
Performance
Fan noise
Battery life
Speed when waking with lid open
Trackpad
Keyboard
MicroSD Boot
Camera at top of screen
Face unlock
Cons:
Screen colors
Lack of ports
Fingerprint sensor
Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been able to use this laptop for tasks that I hadn’t expected it to handle such as CAD with Fusion 360, or light gaming with games such as Cities: Skylines and Firewatch. All of these programs ran surprisingly well for something this thin/light. Best of all, while running these resource-intensive programs the laptop fans didn’t overpower the excellent built-in speakers.
The Windows Hello face unlock is always great to have, although the fingerprint sensor only seems to work 20% of the time.
The webcam isn’t great, but I appreciate that it has been relocated to the top of the screen without sacrificing the bezel-free design.
The display has good image quality, with the awesome tall aspect-ratio, I think it is about the perfect resolution for a 13” screen but the color calibration seems sub-par for this price bracket.
A few other useful things I’ve noticed are the battery life - I can easily get 9 hours on a charge, it is very easy to boot to a secondary OS using the MicroSD slot, and when opening the lid this computer is on and waiting to log in before you can even get it half-way open.
Overall, it’s a very nice Ultrabook, with a decent emphasis on performance.

Great upgrade!
on January 25, 2021
Posted by: cw77
from Papillion, NE
Great upgrade from my old non-Crucial 500GB SSD. Just install it (they supply a spacer, which you may not need, but you’ll have to supply your own SATA cable and mounting screws) in your PC. If this is an additional drive, format it & go. If you’re going to replace your existing drive, just download the cloning software from Crucial, fire it off & sit back for awhile. Once it’s done, set the Crucial SSD as your boot drive & you’re off to the races!
The read/write speed is quite good, especially for the reasonable cost. It easily beat my old SSD, and I can only imagine how much difference it would make if you’re upgrading from a traditional HDD.
Definitely recommended!

Great for driveway movie nights
on January 22, 2021
Posted by: cw77
from Papillion, NE
One of the first things I’d say is to take a look at the chart in the manual (you can download it from Epson site) that shows how far to place the projector from the screen in order to get the screen size you want. We put this in the same spot as our old projector, but the display size was way too big. Unlike our first Epson, this one doesn’t have the ability to shrink/grow the displayed picture. We had to shuffle the basement around a bit to find a good spot. Luckily, the projector is actually somewhat aesthetically appealing, so it doesn’t really stand out. Even passed the wife test.
The Android TV interface is easy to get around, and makes streaming from (most of) your favorite services a no-brainer. It is missing Netflix and Amazon Prime Video though. Not sure what they’re thinking there, but hopefully a future update will rectify that.
Screen brightness is okay. You probably won’t want to watch much in a normally lit room, but it is a projector, so you should already expect that. Darken the room significantly and the picture is VERY nice! Crisp edges, good color, and minimal (if any) lag. Great for movies & sports!
It automatically adjusts the keystone, as well as focus, so placing it off to the side didn’t cause any problems. Although, it does work best if you can center it, as it reduces the non-picture whitewash. Another nice touch is that you can initiate the adjustment via the remote.
One of the HDMI connections supports ARC, so you can easily connect this to a receiver/home theater to get better audio. Not that the built in speaker is inadequate by any stretch, it’s actually fairly impressive for the size of the projector.
Supports wifi which, combined with the decent speaker & automatic keystone/focus adjustment, makes moving this projector from one location to another a breeze. In just a couple of minutes, you can set up a movie night in your driveway, using the garage door as a screen. It’s so easy to move & setup, I can easily see outdoor movie nights becoming a regular thing as soon as it warms up a bit. Can’t wait!
If I had to nitpick on a couple of things:
Carrying case - In their defense, they don’t tout this as a portable unit, but for the price…
Lens cover - Would be nice to have an integrated lens cover, but not a huge deal.
HDMI connections are on the side, but depending on where you put it, this may not be an issue.
Overall though, I’m very happy with it, and look forward to movie nights (and probably some baseball :) …) this summer.

Does everything you need, with NO subscription
on December 6, 2020
Posted by: cw77
from Papillion, NE
I’ve been using Lightroom for years, but really dislike Adobe’s forced subscription model, which is why I took a look at Elements. Elements has just about everything most users would ever need. It has an Organizer module, which lets you organize photos by folders, create photo albums, and add keyword tags. Although, with Adobe’s facial recognition and Sensei (an AI search capability), manually adding keywords could be a thing of the past. Elements does a pretty good job of recognizing the people in your photos. And with Sensei, you can search your photos for just about anything you could think of. You can search for things like lakes, mountains, cars, smiles, holidays, guns, and even rodents if that’s what you need to find. Not sure why you’d need to search for rodents, but you can.
The Editor module has plenty of guided edits that walk you through correcting lighting, straightening out a picture, removing objects, creating a panorama, and lots of other things. You can even completely change out the sky if you want. I only spent a couple of minutes, just for kicks, on the attached photos.
My only real complaint is that it requires you to have, and log into, an Adobe account. One of the reasons I looked into Elements to begin with was that there’s no subscription required. If there’s no subscription, then why do I need to log in to an account? Makes me wonder how long before Adobe says ‘you’ve been using one version of software for too long, so we’re going to lock you out ‘cuz we want some more $$’. Not a huge deal, but irritating enough to cost a star nonetheless.
Bottom line, if you’re looking for a good way to edit and organize all the photos you take, you owe it to yourself to take a look at Elements. And, in my opinion, one of the best things is that if you’re happy with the features Elements 2021 provides, you only have to pull your wallet out once, and you can (theoretically) use the software for years.

Pleasantly surprised

Unexpectedly good picture for a 1080p 27" monitor.
I typically dislike 1080p monitors at this size as you can often see the individual pixels. However this effect is not near as noticeable on this panel. The display has a matte finish that helps prevent glare while still keeping decent color saturation. I also like the button layout, the buttons are easy to find and navigate through the OSD menu.
I have had a good experience with this monitor thus far. My only complaint is how Dell monitors (still) go into sleep mode. The sleep mode still annoys me, when I turn my pc off the monitor should sleep within a few seconds (like any other monitor I've used). There shouldn't be a 4 minute delay to this.
Had no trouble handling GTA5 or COD:Warzone. Also good with MS Flight Simulator 2020.

The choice is yours. Whether you prefer making single cups of coffee with *K-Cup pods or full-sized carafes from coffee grounds, the nutribullet Brew Choice Pod + Carafe has the goods to brew both. Just insert your *K-Cup pod or filter, and the machine’s Brew Sense Technology will automatically adjust its display to match, giving you options to brew a 6, 8, or 10oz cup of *K-Cup coffee, or a 6, 9, or 12-cup carafe.

If using an actual K cup instead of the reusable, will it fit a K Cup from Keurig? or is it a special size where you have to use an exact brand?

Standard k-cups (Keurig & non-Keurig brands) work just fine. However, it will NOT accept the carafe sized k-cups.

Clean your carpets efficiently with this iRobot Roomba vacuum. It lets you set a schedule for automated vacuuming, and the sensors help it navigate under furniture and around objects on the floor for a more thorough cleaning job. This iRobot Roomba vacuum has internal brushes, agitators and suction to handle debris and pet hair.

Does anyone who owns this model find that it is sort of loud?? The part that is the loudest is not the vacuum part but the part that makes it move I guess. Just wondering if anyone else found it loud or is there something wrong with mine?

I'd agree that it's fairly loud. Definitely louder than a competitors robot vac that I have.
