Feature-Packed, Simple Operation, & Great Photos
on August 17, 2017
Posted by: pauldar
from North Florida
Out of the box it took me approximately thirty minutes to set-up and download the printer software. Included with the printer is a six-foot,120v power cord, User Set-Up and Connection Guide, two (first-use) printing cartridges (*64 tri-color and *64 black), and five HP (4” x 6”) glossy photo papers. After connecting the printer directly to my laptop using Wi-Fi Direct (not through my network router) I selected five of my favorite pictures for photo printing. I anxiously waited as the printer queued-up. But, it only took about ninety seconds to print each 4” x 6” glossy photo. The professional quality of each printed photo, rich color, and striking detail blew me away. WoW!
Hardware and Software Features of the HP ENVY Photo 7155 AIO:
Two paper trays – one dedicated photo (top) and one for documents or large photos (bottom).
* Through the HP App you choose which paper tray and size to use.
* Photo tray is designed for three sizes, 4” x 5”, 4” x 6”, and 5” x 7”.
* Document tray accepts both 8 1/2” x 11” printing and, or, large photo paper, and standard A4 envelopes.
Duplexer – Allows for two sided printing and copying to save paper.
* I can select this option through the HP software on my laptop, or, my mobile devices, smartphone or tablet, or, using the touchscreen display window on the printer.
USB Port – On back of unit adjacent to the power plug is a USB Type 'B' Port.
* To connect your device, you will need a USB Type 'A' to Type 'B' cable (not furnished)
SD Card Slot – On front left of unit located in a compartment with round door.
* Accepts both SDHC or SDXC memory cards.
* I can view photos or documents directly from my SD card and print from the touchscreen display window.
Touchscreen Color Display Window – Touch for basic menu options, Copy, Scan, Photo.
* Scroll down each menu item for choices, selection, and details.
* Has touch and illuminated Home, Help, and Return buttons.
* Help has many useful 'How To Videos', Tips, Product Tour and Printer Information.
* Swipe down from top of display window to open your Dashboard.
* Here are Icons for Settings, Wireless Status and Connections, HP E-Print Set-Up for mobile devices, Wi-Fi Direct Status and Set-Up, Estimated Ink Cartridge Levels, and Environmental Settings as this HP ENVY Photo 7155 Printer is Energy Star Compliant (sleep time, one/two sided copies, etc.).
Wireless Connectivity – Printer is dual radio band, 2.4 GHz and 5 Hz, for home network.
* Wi-Fi home network connection allows for Internet access so I can print anything from Internet sites both social and educational, and from any location I am at.
* Bluetooth for printing directly from my smartphone, tablet, or other mobile devices.
* Printing, copying, and scanning can all be initiated from the HP software over Wi-Fi home network.
* Wi-Fi Direct allows me to connect up to five specified devices without going through home network router for more 'family-control' purposes.
Scanner – Using the HP downloaded software I can scan documents or photos easily.
* I can scan using my computer, tablet, or smartphone, or, from an SD memory card.
* Once I scan a document I can send it as an e-mail attachment or file it for later use.
Printing – Super sharp color photos from PC, smartphone, or other mobile devices.
* Laser-like caliber printing from black cartridge ink. The HP software allow you to set the quality, and, or greyscale, number of copies, etc.
* TIP: Use quality printing and photo paper for best results – color pics printed out on the furnished, glossy, photo paper are spectacular.
Illuminated On/Off Button – At left front of unit. Shuts unit off and wakes from sleep.
* Printer automatically awakes from sleep-mode when printing task is in its queue.
HP Software – Available for download at 123.hp.com or Apple Store.
* For all mobile devices use HP ePrint for Android and IOS, Air Print.
After using the HP ENVY Photo 7155 AIO, daily, for over a week, I am convinced that this printer is probably one of the most versatile you can buy for home network use at its price point. For me the best attributes are the Wi-Fi Direct connections and the double-sided copying. In the Wi-Fi Direct options in the Dashboard I changed the settings from 'automatic' to 'manual', which allows me to use a special password (no one else knows) to access this printer. I did this to keep my kids from printing numerous photos. I already have a Wi-Fi home network, laserjet (black ink, cartridge only printer). My kids would use all of my glossy photo paper and tri-color ink cartridge up in one day without this extra protection over my regular, Wi-Fi home network. I am still on Wi-Fi, just don't go through my home network router. I am no longer King-Of-My-Castle, but definitely King-Of-My-Printer. WooHoo!
I highly recommend this feature-packed printer and especially for all its versatility for home use. It is an easy learning curve, and, fairly simple to operate. The Product Demo and 'How To Videos' gives me a visual Users' Manual on the printer that I can access anytime. Classes resume shortly, this would make a great gift for any college or serious high school student. It also is an outstanding purchase for anyone, who loves high quality photos, Mom, Dad, or Grandparents.

Quick, Healthy, Lean Grilling in the GREAT INDOORS
on July 31, 2017
Posted by: pauldar
This Phillips Avance Collection Smoke-Less Indoor Grill with Infrared Technology is so unique and amazingly quick. Over the past week I have used this grill five times, and, the more I use it the better I love it. Indoor grilling with Infrared Technology is a whole new venue compared to conventional charcoal, gas, NG, or Propane. But, the FUN part of Infrared grilling (for me) is that the learning curve is so simple. This is not a complicated indoor cooking grill. There are only three user components to deal with. The grill's main body houses the infrared tubes and reflectors, the die-cast, non-stick, aluminum cooking grid, and the grease and spatter tray How much simpler can it be?
Out of the box the grill can be ready to cook right after you wash and dry the non-stick aluminum grid. At one end of the grill housing is the heavy-duty appliance cord, which is approximately 40” long. The grilling unit is labeled, 1,660 watts at 120V. Typically, appliance outlets can be found in the kitchen to handle that power requirement. At the opposite end of the grilling unit is a simple three-position lever switch, 'OFF', 'WARM', and 'ON'. Because of the power demand and the fact that this unit heats up to a constant 450 F degrees. I place this grill on my ceramic cook-top range, directly under my exhaust fan so I can dissipate the grilling heat. This baby gets hot, approximately 450F, and a little smoke (normal) will be also be produced when grilling various kinds of meat and veggies. So, my positioning it under the exhaust fan is where I want this unit to be for exhausting heat and what little smoke may be produced.
Before I go any further I think I should explain the Phillips, 'Smoke-Less' feature as against the perception of 'Smoke-Free'. No cooking that I am familiar with is completely 'Smoke-Free', and I am sure you will agree. What I experienced is that using lean cuts of beef, poultry, pork, and fish are absolutely necessary, not to mention healthier for you too. However, using cooking oils with higher 'Smoking Points' is also a necessity for indoor grilling. I quickly learned that coating my meats, chicken, steaks, fish, and veggies with a light coat of cooking oil that have a high 'Smoking Point', well over 400F, produced little or no smoke while infrared grilling. Here is my list of higher 'Smoke Point' oils I have used – Corn Oil, Peanut Oil, Soybean Oil, and Extra-Light, Olive Oil, and Avocado Oil (not cheap). Be aware that regular virgin olive oil, butter, and, or, any kind of vegetable shortening is more suited for lower temperature cooking methods – the Phillips Infrared Grill reaches a pretty constant 450F, uniformly across its 112 square inches of cooking surface.
Now for the actual grilling experience . . . . Like many men I think of myself as the 'Grill Master' of my er, ah, kingdom. My Lady, Darlene, is the Head Chef of our domicile. However, for whatever reason, she delegates the grilling responsibilities to me. So, after 50 years of grilling, I found the real gastronomical feast is successful only because of the 'preparation' – the grilling is just the final step of which, I play the 'Grill Master', the flipper of the switches, turner of the foods, and 'judge' of when the banquet is done. WooHoo! I like my 'tasty' job.
Duplicating the ambiance of grilling and bar-b-queuing outdoors is a challenge for indoor epicureans to match. The rich, flame-kissed flavors only charcoal, natural-gas, and propane can produce require a lot of creativity, spices, and flavorings to convince your taste-buds this is real smoky taste. This is where Darlene's 50 years of cooking experience takes Infrared grilling to practical realism. I watched as Darlene mixed two tablespoons of Extra-Light Olive Oil with about five drops of liquid smoke and swished them around 'till blended. She then coated the chicken liberally on both sides. She used a combination of Smoked Paprika and Herbs and Garlic on the veggies, Summer and Zucchini squash, Portabella mushrooms, and Purple and Gold potatoes, which were all lightly coated in corn oil, first. When, we grilled the NY Strip Steaks, she used a 'Smoky-Mesquite' powdered rub and Charcoal Seasoning, a Hickory Smoked Sea Salt on the Yellow potatoes, and Shiitake mushrooms, which were marinated in dark, smoky, porter, craft beer. Yum Yum! On the grilled salmon she used a cedar plank, powder-rub from Seattle that was super-delicious. She did not use any spices, powders or flavorings on the center-cut pork chops, just a light sprinkling of smoky sea salt. Is anybody hungry yet? Darlene says you can find all of these smoky flavor enhancements at your favorite grocery or specialty store, and, they are inexpensive. She also says experimenting with mixing combinations of these spices, rubs, and powders is very taste rewarding using this Infrared Grill. So, mix your own – get taste-adventurous.
I love the grilled veggies on this Phillips Infrared Grill. The non-stick, die-cast aluminum grid is spaced so that smaller cuts of veggies do not fall through the grate. They cook quickly with an even temperature of 450F and without burning or flare-ups. I cannot cook the veggies on our gas or charcoal grill with the same results. I love this grill for the quality and taste of the veggies. The grilled meats, poultry, and fish are delicious, but I can't get enough seasoned, and grilled vegetables. YooHoo!
Clean-Up. When I was done with my grilling I noticed how the grease/splatter pan could be immediately cleaned. It remains 'cool' so just washing it with soapy dishwater liquid is fine. The spatter on the metal reflectors removes easily with oven cleaner, and the glass protecting the quartz cooking tubes cleans easily with ceramic/glass cook-top cleaner. It is important to note that the grill should be cleaned after every use.
Included in the package with your grill is: User Manual set of Instructions and a Grilled Menu Book along with a sheet of Highlights Illustrating the advantages of Smoke-Less, Infrared Technology.
You can go to the main Phillips website, register this product and download a comprehensive
User Manual and peruse the Frequently Asked Questions along with detailed Cleaning Instructions.
This unit has a one year Limited Warranty and is equipped with quartz heating tubes, which are rated at 5,000 hours of continued use by the manufacturers – should last you a 'lifetime'.
TIPS:
Use insulated pot holders while touching the cooking grid or its handles while cooking.
Leave the skin on vegetables and fruit while grilling.
Use powdered spices and rubs if you can – grainy spices, rubs and breading cause spatter.
Don't be afraid to look at the ultra-red light – it does not cause any harm to your eyes.
No tin foil or wraps that could cause excessive heating from reflected infrared rays.
It is 'normal' to see stains on the metallic reflector panels over time.
CLEAN this unit after each and every use – Use a soft brush to clean the non-stick grid.
Use Oils with 'Higher Smoking' Points.
Grill some fruits like apples, pears, and peaches – you will be pleasantly surprised.
Needless to say the more I use this Phillips Indoor Infrared Grill the more I love it. Especially since Darlene enhances the flavors to that of those comparably grilled outdoors using charcoal, or gas. It is easy to store when we are not using it and it is ruggedly-built. It will easily grill a meal for two to four depending on your foodstuffs.
I highly recommend this Phillips Avance Collection Smoke-Less Indoor Grill with Infrared Technology as a 'Must-Have' for any home and, or, apartment dweller. It is especially useful when the weather does not cooperate for outdoor grilling, and, or, it is too dark to grill outside. I love this Infrared Indoor Grill. My favorite grilled, food meal is seasoned veggies with chicken. Don't get me wrong – outdoor grilling is fantastic. But, with a little preparation of oils, spices, rubs, and powders, this Infrared Grill can almost duplicate or even surpass the outdoor grilling flavors.

Unequaled, 3D-DTS Surround Sound - Haptic Tech
on July 23, 2017
Posted by: pauldar
Eagerly awaited the opportunity of experiencing a wearable personal speaker featuring DTS Three Dimensional Surround Sound, Haptic User Technology, and adapted for Bluetooth and 3.5MM audio cable. What really intrigued me was there is little else on the market offering DTS Surround Sound and only a few headphones and sound devices with Haptic User Tech. I wanted to be engulfed by this fresh combination of sound reproduction and enjoy the new 'future-wave' of technology for music enjoyment and entertainment. As an audiophile, for over fifty years, I am thoroughly excited how our listening pleasure has evolved and transformed by digital tech over the last few decades. The LG engineers are on the cusp of dynamic advancement of digital tech with this LG TONE HBS-W120 Wearable Personal Speaker.
When I received this complimentary, LG wearable speaker I devoured the included instructions while charging the unit. Couldn't wait to try them out. I visited the LG website and downloaded the entire 'User Manual', which is much easier to read and includes more comprehensive information and illustrations. I also registered the product for updates and such. At first the various controls and their location was a bit confusing, but now, after two weeks of daily use, they are a piece of cake.
I consider my self 'active' for my age, and, walk, run, or bike every day. I live in a rural area of North Florida, which has the kind of weather all year 'round, which, enables me to exercise daily and enjoy outdoor activities. After two weeks of using this unique concept in alternative headphone technology, I am just absolutely astonished.
First, I want to explain how this device fits into my daily 'activity' routines. This LG features voice audible information whenever you activate the operation buttons. After two weeks of using the all the various controls I am much more comfortable of how to operate them. For walking, running, and biking the LG-W120 is very easy to wear and comfortable as long as the unit does not touch my bare skin. It is lightweight, just a tad over four ounces. However, I live in a very humid climate, which is very unforgiving when man-made materials come in contact with your flesh. After the very first day I found wearing a neck-kerchief, or polo type of shirt prevented the unit from coming into contact with my bare skin. Jogging over five miles, biking over bumpy trails, and walking for two hours or more easily irritates the back of my neck if I don't have a natural fiber like cotton between my neck and the LG wearable speaker. Please keep that in mind if you are going to get into heavy aerobic activities. But, the huge Plus, Plus is that I don't have to wear uncomfortable, spongy, synthetic ear buds using this awesome LG wearable speaker. WooHoo!
Now, for the sound quality. This baby is one of the newest pioneers in music delivery, reproduction, and pleasure. As an audiophile, who loves quality sound, I truly appreciate the combination of DTS Surround Sound coupled with Haptic Tech, the 'new-wave' of the future in music processing. Until recently, you needed a home theater receiver or preamplifier with a built-in DTS decoder, connected to five or more speakers, (front, sides, and back) to truly enjoy DTS Surround Sound. However, LG engineers have built-in DTS to their four speakers in this versatile, wearable speaker configuration device. At this writing I understand this is the only unit on the market with DTS Surround Sound Technology. The other exciting, avaunt-guard tech is Haptic User Technology. What is Haptic Tech you ask? Simply stated Haptic User Tech is technology that communicates with a user via sense or touch, or 'touchy-feely'. If you have a health watch that enables a vibration when you need to exercise more, or, a 'nudge-vibration' from a Smart Phone that you have a message, etc. that is Haptic Tech. It can be combined with audio sound to create a whole new atmosphere of sensory experience. The pair of vibrating speakers on the bottom of this unit actually vibrate and touch you, neck surface area, and collar bone. WoW!
Pure listening pleasure. Since I live in a quiet, rural area, I realize the full effects of the DTS Surround Sound and Haptic User Tech while connected to my Smart Phone during my daily activities. I can only surmise that a busy city environment would be less then what I am able to experience, but still deliver incomparable Surround Sound quality. The DTS feature makes the Bluetooth capability a leader in wireless sound technology. What really blew me away is when I connected a 3.5mm audio cable (not included) to my receiver. Audiophiles, like me, prefer the wired connection for more dependability, clarity, and reliability. The replicated sound was three dimensional and alive. It reverberated from everywhere and I could not tell where the sound was coming from. Although this LG wearable speaker already has DTS decoding, the dynamics of the receiver and EQ were absolutely astounding. I now have a new 'best-friend'. YooHoo! Keep in mind that when you connect the 3.5mm audio cable to an auxiliary device the internal power is shut down on the HBS-W120 and the volume is only controlled by that particular auxiliary device.
The mid-ranges of sound dimension are outstanding. The volume/control wheel button is the EQ mode of change – Bass is default, Normal is general, and Treble is high notes. You can change the mode by depressing the volume/control wheel once for each type of mode. Pressing the volume/control wheel twice mutes the sound. The versatility of this unit allows your Smart Phone's assistant to activate voice command operations. How cool is that? Siri can make phone calls for me and even read text messages, and your Android Assistant can do the same. You can receive a call by just depressing the dedicated call button for two seconds. I only use the retractable ear buds for receiving calls in privacy. You activate the earphones through the Speaker/Earphones mode. Don't get met wrong, the earphones are great listening quality too, I just don't like them in my ears, which is an outstanding reason to buy this kind of device. There is an indicator lamp, which tells you when the power is ON or OFF and flashes accordingly – voice activation also confirms this action and tells you what battery power is left when you first turn the unit ON. The LG HBS-W120 has also Advanced Audio Distribution (A2DP), Audio/Video Remote Control (AVRCP), which allows you to use the Play/Pause/Previous/Next Button on audio devices. Keep in mind that when you connect the 3.5mm audio cable to an auxiliary device the internal power is shut down on the HBS-W120 and the volume is only controlled by that particular auxiliary device. Another cool feature is the ability to connect two units utilizing Dual Play. This may be handy if two folks using two separate LG units want to share the same source of music or listening venue. The charging time is just a tad under two hours. The speaker use time is around six hours and the earphone mode is around thirty-five hours.
In the box you get the LG Studio HBS-W120 Bluetooth Wearable Speaker unit; micro USB charging cable, extra set of ear gels (small); and User manual with Warranty Card. The unit build is of composite materials. The back of the unit, which fits around the back of your neck is flexible, whereas the main body is some sort of plasticized material.
I love these wearable speaker headphones, but, now, for the I wish it had: Would have been nice if it included a carrying and storage case; Wish it had an adjustment to make the unit smaller or larger, one size-fits-all may not be for everybody; The retractable, self-storing earphones are too fragile and could easily be damaged or broken, so this unit is NOT made for young children; Would like to have separate volume controls for the main, top, and bottom, vibration speakers.
Overall, this is the 'cutting-edge' of personal, Surround Sound, digital music coupled with Haptic, Touchy-Feely sensory technology. The sound quality is extraordinary. If you are one of those folks, who like bass, ear blasting sound, this may not be for you. However, if you like all kinds of music genre and appreciate all the nuances and subtle backgrounds of total Surround Sound - this is what you need to have. I highly recommend this LG HBS-W120 even though it may be a totally different concept of music delight to your ears then you have ever experienced before. Take the plunge, undergo a whole new world of listening joy and delight. You won't be disappointed.

Ear Candy - Crisp and Sweet Listening Enjoyment
on July 19, 2017
Posted by: pauldar
For the past 50 years I have considered myself an audiophile. When 'stereo' first came out in the early fifties I was fascinated and 'hooked'. Over time I find out how to build the latest, greatest stereo record players for family and friends using the best quality parts available at the time. Vivid music reproduction and two-channel sound separation over multiple speakers was my passion.
So, needlessly to say, over the past 50 years I have spent a small fortune on sound equipment and engineering. Fortunately today, modern music enthusiasts have so many fantastic and versatile choices to select from. Since the early sixties I have used over-the-ear-headphones to thoroughly enjoy crisp, clear, harmonic stereo sound playing all kinds of music entertainment genres. Over-the-ear-headphones are still my personal means of enjoying the exhilaration and sheer pleasure of music without disturbing anyone else.
So, when I had an opportunity to evaluate a complimentary set of JBL Everest 710 Over-The-Ear Wireless Headphones, I was excited. They are not only Bluetooth, but accept audio outside sources through a 3.5mm jack, can be 'paired' for shared audio with other brands of headphones using ShareMe 2.0 technology, and allow me to receive calls while I am wearing them. Big Plus! But, most important to me is that I can now listen to my entire 'retro' vinyl collection using the 3.5mm cable to my amp and equalizer since my record player is already connected to my amplifier. WooHoo!
After enjoying these JBL 710 Headphones for almost two weeks. I am convinced they are the most versatile headphones for their quality and price available. They are lightweight at nine ounces, yet ruggedly built, featuring a softly padded, adjustable head band, which is very comfortable to wear. The headphones fit so well over the contour of my ears, I find them actually soothing while enjoying my music for several hours at a time. In fact I have dozed-off wearing them twice this past week alone. The earphones swivel inwardly approximately ninety degrees, which allows for optimized, over-the-ear fit, and easy packing into the included hard case.
These headphones are the passive, sound isolating, kind. They are not active, electronic noise canceling. Because noise canceling utilizes 'electronic clutter noises' to block out ambient sounds I prefer the more passive sound isolation technology for clearer and crisper sounds as long as my ear pads fit well. The JBL Everest 710 Headphones are an excellent passive fit. Because the inner earphone pads are made of soft, synthetic leather material they conform well to the shape of my ears. They may not be what you should wear in 'wet' environments like in heavy workouts, or, weather outside. They can only be replaced by a JBL Service Technician. Additionally, cleaning the pads with clear water only, and, or, diluted, very mild soap seems like the only viable choices. The JBL folks wanted us to protect these headphones for storage and travel so they included a hard-backed carrying case in the box.
Now for the 'Nitty-Gritty', sound quality. This is the area for which the JBL Everest 710 Headphones excel. First, they feature 40mm dynamic drivers, actually like tiny speakers in the headphone, which have larger diaphragms for more powerful bass delivery. The audible pitch of the sound is from low,10Hz, to high, 22,000Hz. The limits of our hearing range is 20Hz to 20,000Hz. So, this JBL 710 is at lower,10Hz, and higher, 22,000Hz for greater resolution sound for impact. The sound loudness, or sensitivity level is at 96db maximum – a lot of volume. Overall, the JBL engineers did a super-job of creating a mid-range unit that delivers crystal clear treble highs and balanced, rich lows that do not punish your ears. They play like ear candy – crisp and sweet listening enjoyment. Background nuance sounds like falling rain, far away thunder, or the distant chirping of birds is reproduced so you hear it as three dimensional, moving from ear to ear and as if it was in motion moving about your ear from top to bottom. Wow! I can't get enough of this dynamic studio quality sound reproduction.
It is funny, but realistic too. Younger folks who have listened to music on my JBL 710 claim the bass isn't loud enough. I think they have been indoctrinated into heavy, reverberating bass kind of music genres. They don't appreciate, nor hear the subtle background refinement of less prevalent, complicated, dynamics. If you prefer loud, pulsating, ear-ringing bass, these headphones may not be for you.
JBL utilizes the latest version of Bluetooth, V4.1, which delivers great sound quality. Pairing my devices (phone & other headphone unit) with the JBL 710 was extremely simple. But, Bluetooth is Bluetooth and still a 'work-in-progress'. I use Bluetooth for these headphones about eighty per cent of the time. And the ShareMe 2.0 technology is a plus, plus for connecting two sets of headphones. However, I have noticed a slight degradation in the sound quality when two headphones are connected. But, I am an old-fashioned audiophile, who loves the wired connections for reliability and non-interference. When I connected the 3.5mm cable to my amp to play my vinyl records – it was unbelievable. In fairness my record player is not Bluetooth capable so I really had no way to compare wired and wireless. But, the orchestra sounds and music was 'live' and had more depth then just over my living room speakers. Thank You, JBL. Be aware when you plug-in the 3.5mm jack to an another audio source that your internal battery power of your headphones is disconnected automatically, and the auxiliary audio device then controls the sound volume.
Other Features – The JBL Everest 710 includes a hard-backed carrying case; a USB charging cable; a four foot long 3.5mm wired cable with jacks; a Quick Start Guide; a Warning Card; a Warranty Card, which encourages you to register this product for 'updates' and establish the purchasing date for your one year warranty period. It only takes two hours to charge the battery using the included USB charging cable, which gives you up to twenty-five hours of use. Wow! The 'controls' are all on the bottom of the 'R', right hand ear pad and include a sliding, 'ON', 'OFF' switch; a (+) speaker and (–) speaker volume switches; a combination play / pause, receive call and stop call switch; Bluetooth pairing switch; and the ShareMe 2.0 technology pairing device switch. Audible features talk to you as you are using the controls.
A word about the controls. After two weeks of groping for the controls I now let my fingers to the 'walking'. It is only a short learning curve to get a 'feel' for the controls on the right ear pad. The more you use these headphones the quicker you learn the controls.
I highly recommend these JBL Everest 710 Over-The-Ear Headphones. I love them and use them daily. The only kind of 'workout' activity I take them on is my early morning walk. They are studio quality and not really built for heavy perspiration-kind of workouts. JBL has packed a lot of quality, high-end sound in these headphones and versatile features. And, twenty-five hours of battery life on a two hour charge? For yourself, family member, or friend, this makes a great gift, which will be appreciated for many years.

Great Wide Area Mesh Router With Home Automation
on June 30, 2017
Posted by: pauldar
I was looking forward to setting up this Samsung Connect Home, Smart Mesh Wi-Fi System to replace my older dual band, Gateway router. It could only handle a limited number of devices, SU-MIMO (Single User, Multiple Input Multiple Output), and not allow me the square foot coverage I needed. I had several dead spots and the 5 GHz frequency was limited in signal strength. The further the distance I went away from this Gateway router it would drop from 5 GHz down to 2.4 GHz automatically. I really wanted to experience what the improvements would be with the Samsung Mesh Wi-Fi System.
When I first received the Connect Home package I was actually surprised by the compact size of the units. Each mesh router is approximately 4 3/4” x 4 3/4”, about the size of a sandwich, with rounded edges and 1 1/16” thick in an off-white color and ultra light, at approximately 7 ½ ounces in weight. They blend in well where I placed them around my home and are hardly noticeable. Included in the package is a 120V power adapter and 4.9 ' of Ethernet cable for each router. On the back of each router there is a DC power port, two RJ-45 ports, one each for Input-Output, and a Reset port. There is an Indicator light on the front of each unit. Steady green for 'ON', and, blinking red when not connected to the Internet. Home Connect routers use WPA2 Encryption for security. There are no unsightly external antennas. However, each unit has seven internal antennas: Two for 2.4 GHz, two for 5 GHz, and one each for Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Bluetooth 4.1. Connect Home has Zigbee and Z-Wave, which are popular wireless standards for home automation. These standards make Connect Home compatible with hundreds of 'third party' smart home devices Each router can provide up to 1,500 square feet in coverage. So, the 3-Pack was just what I needed for my 4,000 square feet.
A 'Quick Start Guide' is also included in the Connect Home package along with a card illustrating the Wi-Fi connections, Smart Things Hub Setup, and Samsung Connect App, which is FREE for downloading at either Google Play or the Apple Store. There is a lot of technology packed into this Samsung Connect Home Wi-Fi mesh router system. Each individual mesh router unit is 2 x 2 MU-MIMO (Multiple User, Multiple Input Multiple Output), 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac wave 2, which in realty 'future-proofs' this system. I won't need to replace this router system for a long time. All newer Smart Phones, Laptops, and other electronic devices are/will be equipped with MU-MIMO, 802.11 a/c with two or more antennas to take advantage of faster processing speeds and connecting more devices through this technology.
I started setting up my Connect Home Wi-Fi system by going into the settings of my Gateway router and shutting 'OFF” its Wi-Fi, which turned into a modem, only. I then followed the outline of instructions illustrated on the Wi-Fi Hub card. Downloaded the Samsung Connect App on my Android Smart Phone and followed the step by step instructions on my phone screen. It found the first router, which was powered up and connected to the Internet. It then registered the router automatically for me. It then guided me through placement of my other two routers, as I powered-up each one, for best functioning and automatically connected them. How cool is that?
*TIP* – Place your other two routers as high as possible for maximum performance and coverage and keep them some distance (4' to 6') away from other electronic apparatus, like desktop computer, Wi-Fi printer, game consoles, audio amplifiers, etc.
I couldn't wait to go through all the rooms of my house with my, Wi-Fi only, Tablet to see if I was connected to the Internet. Absolutely no dead spots. Wow! I even went outside using my Smart Phone on the patio, in my garden, and backyard approximately several hundred feet away from my house (have 6 acres of land in a rural area) and still was on my Wi-Fi system, before it finally switched over to cellular. WooHoo! My Smart Phone and Tablet are the only devices I have that are Mu-MIMO. Impressive! Although the reception was outstanding compared to my old dual band Gateway, I did not notice speeds that were appreciably increased on my Legacy devices, 2.4 GHz. However this 3-Pack system does communicate with all my devices simultaneously, no slowdown. I have a total of 17 electronic Wi-Fi devices, with 8 of them on pretty much all the time. I was super-happy that the buffering circles disappeared from my two Smart TVs while they were streaming Internet TV. YooHoo!
After setting-up the Samsung Connect Home 3-Pack and exploring its capabilities I believe the door to home automation just opened up for me. This Wi-Fi mesh router system also serves as a Samsung Smart Things Hub, which automates various devices, like my, national brand name, front door lock and robot vacuum cleaner. My front door lock is Z-Wave compatible, so now through the SmartThings Hub I can program the lock to be opened for a specified time period to let my neighbor in to check on my place while I'm gone for several days, then lock it back up. Neato! Also, I have a robot vacuum cleaner. I originally set the vacuum up using the Samsung Smart Home App. But, now I can use the SmartThings Hub because it allows me to control my door lock and other compatible items too, and, devices as I add them. My home security system was damaged by lightning and I will have to replace it soon. However, my new home security system will be compatible with Connect Home for sure. I am really getting into my home automation one device at a time. Thermostat control is next on my 'Wish List' to automate with Home Connect. There are many devices to choose from based on your individual needs and whether you find it worth automating your home\.
I found these to be the main advantages of my Samsung Connect Home Smart Wi-Fi System:
My data transfer on 2 x 2 MU-MIMO is approximately twice as fast as SU-MIMO (my old router).
My newer devices that are MU-MIMO greatly benefit from increased download speeds of my wireless connection.
Wi-Fi for up to 4,500 square feet and as many as 5 units for 7,500 square feet.can be installed.
More devices can be connected to my Home Connect Mesh Router System simultaneously.
SmartThings Hub has on-screen guides for all my compatible devices and future devices for home automation.
Allows me to manage all my connected devices and share that control with guest access if I choose.
Okay, now the problems I have encountered. I have some Bluetooth issues concerning my phone pairings to my car, head phones, and portable speaker. My phone is forced to complete the initial set-up over each time I am in my car. Having trouble staying connected to my ear phones, they cut out constantly and my portable speaker works intermittently until I repeat the Bluetooth set-up over again. Hopefully Samsung will work out these bugs and issues with Bluetooth. I realize the Connect Home App is a work in progress, and has some 'bugs' that will be worked out eventually. Additionally, I wish they included a USB port on each unit. It would have made it much more functional with auxiliary devices like shared printers, etc. So, I can only give it four stars instead of five at this time.
I love this new Connect Home 3-Pack System of mesh routers for its terrific coverage, and unique home automation capabilities. It is a vast improvement over my old Gateway router with much faster downloads at 5GHz and fantastic overall coverage for both radio frequencies. If you want to upgrade and, or, replace your old router, and consider home automation too, I highly recommend the Samsung Connect Home Smart Wi-Fi System. Did I mention that his system can utilize voice control commands through Amazon's Alexa and Google Assistant for home automation? The 21st Century is here folks. Connect Home has introduced me to home automation. What about you?

Aquaphonics AQ11 is Outside Wet, Musical FUN
on June 26, 2017
Posted by: pauldar
Over the past few days I have had immense FUN using this Aquaphonics Lifeproof AQ11, wireless, portable, waterproof speaker. I didn't have to worry if it got wet or even fell into the pool or hot tub, since it is waterproof, ruggedly-built, and is tough enough to take a 'drop' by a toddler or, Grand Child from approximately four feet height. This makes it perfect for outdoor FUN activities with my Grand Children (Grandma also loves it too). So, I want to share my experiences from this past weekend enjoying this FUN speaker.
The day I received this unit my three Grand Kids were over, and, in our pool. Since it arrived mostly 'charged', I immediately Bluetooth-connected it to my Smart Phone and played toddler kinds of music through Pandora. The kids absolutely loved it. How much more FUN can it get playing and dancing in the pool enjoying FUN kids' music? The AQ11 was the heart of our pool party. Unfortunately, it soon started to rain, and, we had to go inside, but the musical party did not stop because of the rain. We found kids' sing-a-long music to go with our pizza-feast Grandma provided. It was great FUN, and we continued varieties of kids' music through indoor play, and bath time 'till it was eventually bedtime. Nice!
The next morning we headed out to a local water park, where we joined a birthday celebration a of a friend's child, who just turned five years old. I took the AQ11 with us. Since I still had the kids' sing-a-long music playing, several of the older kids came over to ask me to turn UP the volume so they could sing along too over the sounds of the splashing water (see pics). The AQ11 has the volume to be heard over a large area, and interfering noises – it was fantastic. Some of the parents sang along with the music too – what FUN. AQ11 did an outstanding job of providing musical FUN and 'kid-rhythm' into the birthday party. WooHoo!
Later that day, and after the party, while the Grand kids were asleep, Grandma and I enjoyed thirty minutes of relaxation in our hot tub with the AQ11, featuring Easy-Listening selections. It was quiet, bubbly, and soothing. Does it get any better then this? YooHoo! How many ways can you think of to use this AQ11 with a gathering of your family and friends?
When I received this complimentary, AQ11 Aquaphonics Speaker, I was immediately impressed by its rugged-ability construction, simplistic controls, and spacious waterproof housing for personal 'stuff', ID cards, Smart Phone, Money, Keys, etc. But, as they say, “The Proof Is In The Pudding” - the AQ11 has phenomenal sound quality and clarity. What is really amazing, increasing the volume level, which this baby has plenty of, does not distort the level of delivered, mid-range sound quality. There are no 'user' adjustments, similar to an equalizer, but I found that facing this unit close to a wall or corner increases the bass level due to a reflected, 'bounce-back' resonance.
The topside controls are very simple (My Grand Kids can operate them):
Volume can be increased or lowered by touching the + or – button located at the very center of the controls.
A Back < and Forward > is also on topside.
At either end, is the Bluetooth Pairing Button.
And, the Source Button, to switch from Bluetooth to whatever you connected to the 3.5mm input jack.
At one end of the unit is a waterproof door containing a USB charge-out port, a 3.5 mm audio input jack, and a 'Power-In' for recharging, which includes a 120v, proprietary, wall charger.
On the other side of the AQ10 is a surface mount 'On/Off' switch along with the 'Lock' and 'Unlock' switch. Just above the 'Lock' switch are four LED, charging indicator lights. Each one that is lit, represents twenty-five percent of charge left. NOTE: the 'Lock' switch must be 'Unlocked' for Bluetooth pairing and, or, switching from 3.5 mm to Bluetooth, or visa versa.
Another neat feature is that you can receive phone calls through the AQ11 while it is ON. However, it must be 'Unlocked', and you have to press the 'Play' button to receive and to end your phone calls. Also, as you place your hand near the topside controls – the individual controls light-up, which is cool and helpful, especially in dark conditions.
Please note that you can download the 'Owners' Guide' from the 'Inside Lifeproof' link at their product website. It is highly detailed with pics and a User's Manual with lots of functional information. The included information is not comprehensive enough.
So, why do I think the AQ11 is outstanding? The sheer quality of reproduced music at much higher volumes is probably the best attribute. Being rugged and waterproof makes it Grand-Kid-Friendly, Teen-Friendly, and Senior-Friendly, IMHO. Did I mention the fifteen hour battery life? The enclosed USB port allows you to 'Charge-Out' your phone, tablet, I-Pad, E-Reader, etc.. How convenient is that? YooHoo!
I highly recommend the purchase of the Aquaphonics Lifeproof AQ11, if you enjoy outdoor activities, and especially with the folks you love . . . . I love good quality sound, and the AQ11 delivers. Surely, you can find less expensive kinds of waterproof speakers, but you will be tasked to find the versatility and QUALITY of sound the AQ11 provides. You can take this baby with you on your boat, in your pool, hot tub, water park, beach, lake, river, camping, washing your car, watering your garden, anything involved with water – no fear of damage because it is waterproof following the included instructions to a depth of approximately three feet. The AQ11 is specifically made for large gatherings and large areas – it is a Party Machine.

I May Soon Be Replaced By A Robot - ALMOST
on June 21, 2017
Posted by: pauldar
Not having any prior experience with robot vacuums I eagerly looked forward to see what the Samsung POWERbot™ R7070 Robot Vacuum could do cleaning the floors in my home. I looked forward to evaluating 21st Century technology paired with a powerful vacuum in order to save me time and enhance my floor cleaning. The POWERbot pulled up dirt, dust, and sand from my floors with its powerful turbine, it did not disappoint me.
As I took it out of the box I was immediately impressed. The Samsung POWERbot is ruggedly built and well-designed. It is packaged with:
Quick Start Guide
Comprehensive User Manual
Battery Recharge Docking Station
Power Cord
Battery Charger
Remote Controller – Two AAA batteries are included
Another Spare Re-Usable and Washable Filter
Magnetic Boundary Tape
Warranty Information – One Year
It is approximately 11 ½ inches wide and has a self-cleaning rotary, cleaning brush. The POWERbot is well-balanced over two large wheels, which easily climbed over my transitions from hard-surfaced floors to carpeting. The dust bin capacity is a tad under one and one-half cups (11.27 oz), but so easy to empty and clean. It features a washable and re-usable filter (a spare is also furnished). I finally had to wash the filter after eight times of whole house vacuuming.
It is Wi-Fi enabled on the 2.4 Ghz radio band. You must have a Samsung Account, which you can process by downloading the Free Smart Phone App from Google Play or Apple App Store depending on your Smart Phone. I already had a Samsung Account on my Samsung Smart Phone, so the set-up, product registration, and Wi-Fi connectivity to my Home Network was very easy following the instructions in the User Manual. Please note that you can always use the furnished Remote without a Wi-Fi connection as long as the Remote is within site and height limits. The POWERbot can be controlled three ways – the on-board, touch-controls on the face of the unit, by the Remote, and, or the Smart Home App on your Smart Phone.
It is fairly obvious that the Samsung Smart home App is a 'work-in-progress'. In fact I just downloaded an 'upgrade' to the App today. However, I prefer my Smart Phone over the Remote since I always carry it with me. Additionally, the Smart Home App gives me more information and a visual control screen, which allows me more flexibility.
After using this POWERbot for over a week, I believe the 'Visionary Mapping' feature of this unit gets better at digitizing out the layout of my whole house each time it is used. The on-board digital camera coupled with its nine sensors appear to be more efficient after completing several auto cleaning schedules. It gets done quicker and does not bump into as much furniture as the very first time. I love the end result, clean floors and less work for me. WooHoo!
I may soon be replaced by this POWERbot – almost. I am still going to need my old upright vacuum for places the POWERbot cannot get too, behind and under furniture, stairs, shelf dusting, and upholstery. But this baby does about ninety percent of the work. Welcome to robotics and 21stCentury Technology. Thank You, Samsung. The POWERbot saves me valuable time and vastly cuts down on my chores of vacuuming routinely. Win, Win for me. YooHoo!
The POWERbot is designed for daily or frequent, routine vacuuming. It does not have a weekday schedule. Once you set the scheduled times it will be on a daily-basis, only. However, by using the Smart Home App connected to your home Wi-Fi network, you can remotely change at any time during the week or change the POWERbot schedule at home or away. For instance, If you are away, or, at work and discover unexpected company may arrive before you get home – you can remotely turn your unit 'ON' and let it do its thing at the time you want it too using your Smart Home App. Just enable the 'One-Time' schedule instead of changing the daily times it may already be set for.
Important to Note – Using the POWERbot does require some floor prep to be efficient. Loose electrical cords, magazines, clothing, or toys anywhere on your floors may stop and even damage this unit. Water or any liquids on the floors is also a No-No. Using the POWERbot has helped me to reduce the clutter off of my floors.
There are three separate, programmable cleaning modes, Auto, Spot, and Manual. There is also a Repeat mode, which will clean continually until the battery is exhausted. For daily, scheduled vacuuming times I use the Auto mode. There are also three Suction Power modes, Turbo, Normal, and Quiet. The first time I used the Turbo mode, but since I vacuum daily, I now use the Normal mode. When my Grandchildren were over I got to use the Spot cleaning mode to pick up crumbs from PB&J sammies along with some potato chip bits. To Spot clean you must place the POWERbot in the center of the area to be cleaned as it travels an outward path from that point, approximately six feet by six feet, then stops.
It is important for good operation to place your docking station as centrally located as you can. I moved my docking station several times before the POWERbot could easily find it using its Infrared Technology sensors. Important to note that the Infrared sensor cannot 'see' black or very dark colors, so avoid those areas when placing your docking station. It took approximately three hours to fully charge my unit from LOW Battery. In Auto mode at Normal Suction the POWERbot lasts approximately one hour. In Turbo mode maybe around twenty-five minutes, and, in Quiet mode the User Manual says approximately ninety minutes. I have not used the Quiet mode yet.
One other point – shut your ceiling fans OFF when vacuuming in Auto mode. I left mine ON and the POWERbot only cleaned around the area of the turning fan. Maybe it can't see the ceiling with the digital camera while the fan's blades are rotating, not sure? Just shut them OFF while vacuuming, and no problem.
I love how powerful this unit is and the technology, which makes it such a Smart Robot. In summary, the Samsung POWERbot can replace me without question. Wish it could 'do windows'. I think Seniors would like the POWERbot since it minimizes a cleaning chore without the danger and hassle of tangled cords to deal with, or, trip over. It also is 'Arthritis-Friendly' since it helps Arthritic Seniors avoid pushing heavy upright vacuums frequently.
Does the POWEREbot sound like a great gift for someone 'special' on your list?
I would highly recommend the POWERbot, especially to folks, who value their time, and want to make their whole home 'smarter'. It certainly isn't for everyone, but it is a great choice for those, whose lifestyle supports robotic tech, convenience, and enhanced, care-free floor cleaning.

Excellent Playback, Professional-Grade, Headphones
on May 26, 2017
Posted by: pauldar
At age seventy-three, I consider myself a lifelong lover of all kinds of music, an audiophile. Back in the 50's I got started by building Hi Fidelity record players for family and friends. Was mesmerized by the faint glimmer of light from the vacuum tubes radiating out of the scores of ventilation holes, I drilled on the sides of my home made fabrications, to dissipate the heat. The 45's, 78's, and 33 1/3 LP's would spin while reverberating out then, the new-age music, 'Rock 'N Roll'. Those were the days - Loved every minute of it.
It was during the 50's and 60's while assembling record players and sound amps for mics and speakers that I learned the 'Gold Standard' of superb audio – extraordinary sound reproduction and playback is only possible using the finest components available. Professional musicians, sound engineers, and people, who appreciate all the nuances of surround and high-octane sound agree.
Today, I use a high-end A/V Receiver as the centerpiece of my home audio system. This component allows me to connect all my sound and video devices, 4K TV, smart phones, tablet, PC, Blueray player, and even older legacy devices too, like my 'old timey' record player – still love playing the vinyl.
When an opportunity presented itself for me to review the Master & Dynamic, MW60 Wireless, Headphones, in exchange for a comprehensive and honest review, I was thrilled.
Nothing against Bluetooth technology folks, but high-end headphones, which allow both, Bluetooth and 'wired' input, like the Master & Dynamic, MW60 is my 'Cup-Of-Tea'. When the package arrived I was immediately impressed by the great care taken to insure the headphones would NOT be damaged in shipment. The arrived in a foamed and scalloped inner enclosure, the exact shape of the headphones, inside of a heavy, outer shell box. Neatly packaged in the box was the following: the MW60 headphones, canvas carrying pouch for the headphones, canvas cord case, sturdy leather cable box, 1.25m standard audio cable (approximately 4' and 1” in length), micro USB charging cable (approximately 38” long), and a 3.5 to 6.3mm gold-plated adapter, 'Quick-Start Guide, and impressive 'User Manual', in seven different languages, that contains many helpful, graphic illustrations, and detailed operations.
Just picking up the headphones in my hands I knew these were 'quality-built'. The look and feel of the materials in the design, engineering, and construction of these headphones is 'over-the-top'. My first impression was that these headphones were designed to be as professional-grade as possible. Durable stainless steel hinges and extensions for adjustment, lightweight aluminum housings for the speakers and antenna, long-lasting superior, grain leather-wrapped headband, and the luxurious, foam-wrapped, magnetized, lambskin ear pads, which can be easily removed for cleaning or entirely replaced. The total weight of the headphones is approximately three-quarters of a pound or 345 grams. Additionally, the SS hinges allow me to wear the headband either on the top of my head, or, at the back of my neck, whichever I prefer at the time. It just doesn't get any more professional then this, folks. These headphones are built to enjoy and last for many years. WooHoo!
The main power controls are located on the Left-side ear pad. The ear pads are engraved on the SS hinges as to 'R', right side and 'L', left side. Since I am left-handed, the position of the main controls is ideal for me. However, it should work extremely well for either left or right handed people. The main control is a three positioned switch. The Middle position is 'ON'; the bottom, red-dot position is 'OFF', and the Bluetooth position is self-explanatory. Pairing is simple and it only took me thirty seconds to accomplish with my Bluetooth Receiver. I was also able to pair my I-Phone as the unit allows the pairing of two separate Bluetooth devices at the same time. You can simply 'toggle' back and forth between the two inputs by pausing one device remotely, in order to play the other. Just above the power switch are two LED indicators, which one will glow red on low battery, orange on medium battery, and green on full battery. A fully charged battery will last approximately sixteen hours.
Also on the Left side ear pad is my favorite jack, the 3.5mm, wired audio jack. This is the one I use pretty much most (all) of the time. In my humble opinion after many years of listening and appreciating great sound playback, hard-wired connections provide me with more encompassing, realistic, surround sound detail then any other link to include the greatly improved Bluetooth featured in these amazing headphones. I simply plug the 3.5mm audio jack into my A/V Receiver's corresponding outlet, which allows me inputs from seven different audio sources through the Receiver's switches in addition to digital radio and TV sound broadcasts. But, what is most important to me is the 3.5mm, wired connection provides me with impeccable, and almost flawless audio playback to these outstanding, dynamic headphones. The myriad, complexity of the detailed audio using the wired connection is so comprehensive and enveloping it completely fulfills the mission the sound engineers of Master & Dynamic set out to do with the MW60 headphones. This is why the Master & Dynamic, MW60 Headphones are so well designed and excellent. They provide you with the best of both worlds, hard-wired and Bluetooth connections. They knew people like me (and you) would enjoy these professional-grade headphones to their fullest. YooHoo!
It is also noteworthy to mention that when you utilize the 3.5mm connections your headphone internal power source shuts down as the 3.5mm source provides the power and input to these fantastic headphones. Another great feature is that when your internal battery-source power is shut down, 'passive-audio-isolation-by-design' is engaged. These terrific headphones do not have 'Noise-Cancellation' electronics feature. They utilize a more user-friendly passive, noise isolation instead of electronic signal 'clutter', which you may perceive as noise cancellation. Trust me and other audiophiles, passive noise isolation is far superior to degrading, signal-manipulating, noise cancellation. Do your research.
The Right side ear pad has three functional buttons. A plus and minus button for individual volume control and a multi-functional button (MFB) in the middle. Plus (+) button serves as 'forward' and Minus (-) serves as 'previous' track buttons while depressing each for two seconds. The MFB button is used to serve as a Play/Pause button, and, answer and end phone call button. Additionally, the MFB can be used to ignore a call or use your digital assistant for voice dial. On my I-Phone Siri worked well with this feature. The USB charging port is also located on the very bottom of the Right side ear pad. Any 'active' USB port will charge these headphones, however, I used my I-Phone plug and, it charged them in just over an hour.
Now, regarding the sound playback. In my opinion for contemporary music, modern day, easy-listening, rhythm & blues, country, jazz, or rock, etc. the Bluetooth connection does a spectacular job. If you have a Receiver or any other kind of 'input' device that has an EQ you can pump up the bass, treble, or mid ranges, to your particular liking and this baby will take it. Even if you don't have an input access that has an EQ, the absolute crispness, clarity, and robust warmth and richness of music will convince you that these are the best headphones you can buy and will enjoy for years.
These headphones come with a two year warranty, which is good at any retailer you purchase them from.
If you are a music geek like I am the Master & Dynamic MW60 Wireless Headphones are the closest thing you are going to get to Professional-Grade perfection in sound playback. Using the 3.5mm audio cable takes me to another world, where realistic, lifelike sounds envelop my ears and tantalizes my listening pleasures for total and complete relaxation and gratification. Playing my vinyl records has never been more pleasurable to listen too – so realistic and true to their original recording. I love these headphones.

Because of their exquisite design these headphones are super comfortable to wear and the luxurious, lambskin padding provides a soft cushion delight for your ears. If you only connect to Bluetooth you can move around within limits – over-the-ear headphones are meant for you to be quietly relaxed and emotionally tuned in to your listening venue. I wholeheartedly recommend these spectacular headphones. They would make a great gift for that special grad, special couple, Fathers' Day, Birthday, Anniversary, etc. With all my years of experience in music build, appreciation, and reproduction – Master & Dynamic MW60 Headphones are as close to flawless playback as you can get and well worth the price point.

Pool, Hot Tub, Beach, Boat, TV + AQ10 = FUN
on May 21, 2017
Posted by: pauldar
Just how many ways can I use the LifeProof Aquaphonics AQ10 Portable Bluetooth Speaker? Over this past week I discovered that this little gem provides waterproof, musical FUN and turns my POOL into a Pool Party; makes using the Hot Tub even more relaxing; at the BEACH my Grand Kids love that they can play their favorite music near the sand and salt water'; surprisingly, it makes a very good SOUND BAR for my bedroom TV, and over this coming Memorial Day Weekend am taking it along on a family outing aboard my Brother-In-Law's BOAT. I even used the AQ10 while washing my car and while gardening and watering my flowers.
Since the AQ10 is completely mobile, waterproof, and lasts for over 12 hours before charging it can be used anywhere around and near the water for almost any kind of FUN activity. Well, almost all, but fishing. My Brother-In-Law does not want me to bring it along it when we go on our next outing. He claims the fish won't appreciate it. Aside from that it can 'connect' to eight different Bluetooth devices
I received this complimentary LifeProof Aquaphonics AQ10 Portable Bluetooth Speaker too late in the day to take it out to my pool area and see what it could do. So, that evening I went over the details of the basic operation of the AQ10 and downloaded the 'Owners' Guide' from the 'Inside LifeProof' link at their product website. It is highly detailed with pics and a User's Manual with lots of functional information. The AQ10 is extremely simple to operate and understand. I 'paired' my I-Phone to the AQ10 in under sixty seconds. After noticing it had two 3.5 mm inputs (one in the drybox and on the right-hand side) I realized that the design of this unit will allow external devices to stream sound or music through the 3.5 mm connections. Since most TV's have marginal to mediocre sound quality, I connected the AQ10 to my bedroom, smart TV with a 3.5 mm cable to see what kind of 'sound bar' it would make. NOTE: The 'Source' button on top of the unit must be set to enable the 3.5 mm input, and, the 'Lock' switch must be unlocked. I was impressed with the sound quality and clarity. Using my TV's 'Equalizer' I enhanced the delivery of the sound from the TV to the AQ10. It is probably set at the 'mid-range' to operate on its own, however, it can be tweaked using the TV's 'Equalizer'. Just be careful to avoid high treble and low bass as it distorts the sound quality appreciably, and possibly could damage the speakers. However, connecting to a TV gives even more versatility to the AQ10 when its not being using around the water.
The most FUN is using the AQ10 in my pool because I don't have to worry if it gets wet or falls into the pool since it is waterproof, provided the two doors are latched properly. The topside controls are very straightforward, and light up when operated. The volume can easily be raised or lowered from the + or – side of the 'Play' control. The topside controls also consist of a 'Pair' for Bluetooth connection, 'Back' and 'Forward' for previous or next track, and 'Source' for switching from Bluetooth or 3.5 mm inputs. On its side it has a waterproof door containing a USB charge-out port, 3.5 mm audio input jack, and a 'Power-In' for recharging with included 120v, proprietary, wall charger. The watertight 'Drybox' provides space for a small smart phone, similar to I-Phone 5 or SE, or, space for cash, credit card, etc. The space also provides another 3.5 mm audio jack and USB, charge-out port. On the other side of the AQ10 is a surface mount 'On/Off' switch along with the 'Lock' and 'Unlock' switch. Just above the 'Lock' switch are the four LED, charging indicator lights. Each one that is lit, represents 25% of charge left. NOTE: the 'Lock' switch must be 'Unlocked' for Bluetooth pairing and, or, switching from 3.5 mm to Bluetooth, or visa versa.
Some of the other important features I must mention is dropping it the water is not an issue. The AQ10 is waterproof to a depth of one meter, or approximately 39”, submersed for up to 30 minutes. So, I dropped it into my pool and observed that the audio stops playing, but it floats well. Once out of the water the music resumes. The AQ10 can be 'Dropped' from a height of 1.2 meters or approximately 47”. Another neat feature is that you can receive phone calls through the AQ10. It must be 'Unlocked', and you have to press the 'Play' button to receive and end the phone call. Fortunately it is 'Dirt' proof, and, or sand-proof, since we used it at the beach. I live in Northern Florida and this is an extremely important feature. . We just washed it off with clear fresh water to clean the beach sand off and whatever salt water residue it may have had. How easy is that to maintain? WooHoo! It is also 'Snowproof', but I don't think we will ever have to worry about that.
I like how ruggedly built the AQ10 is and the sound quality is crisp and clear. When I was using it at my pool I found that facing the speakers towards a corner wall, within two feet or so, greatly enhanced the bass because of the 'bounce-back' and sound resonance. There is no treble or bass output controls. However the sound output is at 94 db, which is loud enough for most outdoor activities. I also like that it can recharge my cell phone, especially away from any 120v source, by using either of the two furnished USB ports. Recharging took approximately one hour and fifteen minutes from one LED indicator light.
I highly recommend the AQ10 for any active folks, who are outdoors a lot. It can be used literally, anywhere, and especially, in or around water. The QA10 makes a great gift for Graduates, teens, pool owners, boat owners, and, folks who want a ruggedly built, waterproof, drop proof, quality sound, Bluetooth speaker.

Excellent Trimmer For What It Is Designed For
on May 16, 2017
Posted by: pauldar
Was anxious to receive this complimentary Panasonic Wet/Dry Beard and Hair Trimmer to see how it performed trimming the hair on the back of my neck, especially, and, my sideburns to include the area around my ears. Have had several cordless hair cutting systems, which claimed to trim eyebrows, nose hair, sideburns, mustache, beard, nape of the neck, around ears, and even goatees. To their collective credit they were great trimming nose hair, eyebrows, and as a 'mini-shaver'. But when it came to my sideburns, and, especially the hair on the back of my neck, and around my ears they all failed..
As a Retiree I spend six to ten hours a day outside most days of the week, all year around. Fortunately for me the mild climate here, in North Florida, has allowed me to be 'active' with my Grand Children, Gardening, and the general upkeep of six acres of heavily treed land. Since I have worked outside for over fifty years there are several areas from my neck up that I have found need special attention concerning hair trimming. The back of my neck has always been an 'issue'. The combination of heat, perspiration and growing hair on the back of my neck has caused me to break out numerous times. My barber has recommended to keep that area trimmed of hair as much as I could 'till the next haircut. The multi-purpose cordless trimmers did trim that area but because they could only trim in a 'dry-environment', they irritated the back of my neck and the situation went from bad to worse. So, my ever-gracious barber offered to trim the hair on the back of my neck once a week for free if he had the time, and, it was convenient for me, but according to his schedule. Very generous offer, but not practical.
When I received the Panasonic Wet/Dry Beard and Hair Trimmer the very first thing I did after charging it up was to take into the shower and shave the hair off the back of my neck while it was wet. No razor burn from 'dry-shaving' and it was quick, wet, and painless. WooHoo! Having water on the back of my neck while trimming made an unbelievable difference. My old cordless trimmers averaged about three-quarters of an inch in width – the Panasonic Wet/Dry Trimmer is approximately one and three quarters inches wide with an abundance of settings to satisfy all men's hair trimming requirements. Both features conveniently make it possible to spend less time involved on trimming and grooming, and the results are great.
Maintenance is simple and routine. The important thing is to oil the trimmer at the designated areas before and after trimming. Since it is a wet/dry trimmer, water will 'dry-up' any lubrication necessary fir optimum performance. Use the furnished bottle of oil as recommended. After two week of trimming with this Panasonic I have learned how to be more efficient with trimming using the appropriate settings on the trimmer ( 1-10mm). Easy 'Learning-Curve'.
The trimmer itself is ruggedly built, light-weight enough to handle easily, and is designed for a 'man's hand'. I am impressed with the hair-trimming efficiency regarding the cutting width of this unit over the much smaller cordless units I have used in the past. Once you get used to the wider width trimming is not only simple, but fast. After using this trimmer for two weeks I am impressed what it can do for what it was designed for. It is not going to trim your nose hair, hair in your ears, or, eyebrows. But it can keep your next haircut looking sharper a lot longer and give you that well-groomed look the ladies like so much.
This trimmer is also so uncomplicated to clean and lubricate. After a full-charge, approximately fifteen hours, it will last approximately a full thirty minutes of trimming time. Now, that sounds like something is wrong, however, the trimmer motor is very powerful, the trimmer is extra wide, blades sharp and efficient. After two weeks I am still working on the initial charge, and I have used this trimmer three-times a week. It does not take long to what you have to trim. However, I do not have a full-beard, nor a mustache, or a goatee. Obviously these would require extra trim-time.
Please keep in mind that this Panasonic Wet/Dry Beard and Hair Trimmer was NOT designed to trim nose hair, hair inside of your ears, nor eyebrows. I personally recommend this Panasonic Wet/Dry Beard and Hair Trimmer for trimming hair on the back of your neck, especially, around your ears, sideburns, and for beards, mustaches, and goatees. This would make a great 'Fathers' Day' Gift, Graduation, Birthday, Christmas, or, any other occasion you can think of.

What are the interior dimensions? How big a bird can it fit inside?

Hiya' Bill,

The interior oven measures approximately 10" x 13" x 14", which is approximately, slightly larger then one cubic foot. Ninja folks say you can cook a 12 pound bird in the oven. I don't think weight has that much to do with it. I cooked a five pound Pot Roast and it was dwarfed in this oven (see pic). Probably could of cooked 15 pounds of Pot Roast. Based on my experiences. . . .You can easily cook 10 or more pounds of Turkey Breast in this oven (as long as it is contained in a 12" x 12" x 12'' area. . . .Hope this helps.

What is the battery life in hours please?

Hello RodT,

I am a heavy user of this laptop for work. I load large photo files and mark them up with construction inspector notes using my digital pen.. I easily get 12 hours of battery life over two days of use. I think I could get at least several more hours if I didn't stream movies for entertainment at night in my motel room when I am out of town. This baby is powerful and fast. My guess is that if you just do word documents and e-mail you will come close to 17 hours of battery life.. . .

Pixelbook Go is the Chromebook that goes anywhere, then keeps going. It's barely 2 pounds* and just 13mm thin. So whether you're collaborating on a Google Doc in a cafe, catching up on emails during a flight, or watching movies while on vacation, you can do more on the go.*Weight varies by configuration and manufacturing process.

Looking to buy laptop that will be good for my sister that’s starting college is this a good buy?

Hi Johnnie94,
I have the Pixelbook Go 13.3 TS Chromebook with the Intel i5 - 8GB - 128GB SSD. I was amazed how fast it was and what i could do on it. This unit will allow you to download Apps from the Google Play Store. I downloaded MS Word and Excel although Google Docs is an excellent word processing software too. Google also has fine presentation software also.
The touch display screen is bright and clear and wide enough 16:9 aspect, so that two pages of a word document can be displayed at one time if so desired. Great for students. It features a center-placed trackpad, which is adjustable for sensitivity. The keys on the keyboard are backlit and can be adjusted for brightness level. Only an Android smart phone can connect through BT to lock the unit and turn it on, if you wish. It will also allow you to send and receive messages from your phone and, or Pixelbook. This Pixelbook does utilize the voice commands of the Google Assistant also. There are thousands of Apps at the Play Store, and in my opinion, this Chrome OS rivals Windows and Mac for productivity. Chrome OS is a simple easy to learn system. It is NOT bloated like Windows or Mac so a high end processor, RAM memory, or huge hard drive is not needed. Cloud backups is available. This is a sold unit for school-related productivity, note taking, and entertainment too. It is great for creating and editing word processing and spreadsheets, e-mail, and surfing the web for information. But it is NOT a gamer or able to do heavy graphics and photo editing.

Hope this helps you. And good luck to your sister's college career.

Get quick access to favorite drinks with this GE beverage center. The spacious interior holds up to 109 cans or 31 bottles of wine, while the glass door and LED lighting make browsing contents simple. This GE beverage center features five oak shelves for added durability and a natural aesthetic.

When door is open 90 degrees how far does the door extend beyond the side? Can it be installed flush against a wall on the hinge side?

Hi Trwmab,

YES - The door can be extended beyond 90 degrees. However, it would have to protrude a couple of inches out from the 'flush' side of the cabinetry to fully extend against a wall. When the unit is free-standing the Right-Side-Handed-Door can extend approximately 145 degrees from its fully closed position. Hope this helps. . . .

Only at Best Buy Listen in comfort with these Jabra Elite 85h wireless headphones. Integrated SmartSound audio technology adapts automatically to your surroundings, while a powerful battery offers up to 36 hours of playtime. These Jabra Elite 85h wireless headphones feature eight separate mics for excellent call quality and are rain-resistant for safe use in all weather conditions.

how do these compare to Boise?

Hi Micki,
I have the Bose QC 35 Headphones and just received the Jabra Elite 85h Headphones for review. In my opinion the Jabra 85h has the superior Noise Cancelling tech. Jabra uses AI (artificial Intelligence) in its Active Noise Cancelling profiles. It basically analyzes the noise backgrounds you are currently in, and changes your ANC to match your audio environment.
I was out at my pool listening to Pandora when my neighbor started to trim his hedges. My Jabra headphones changed my listening environment within ten seconds so I did NOT hear his noisy clippers. I love this tech. Additionally, the Bose QC 35 should not be in an outside environment, especially a moist one (I live in North Florida - Hot & Humid). Jabra 85h is rainproof and dustproof, and I have no problem taking these headphones outside. In my opinion the Jabra Sound App offers more features and settings then Bose. However, Bose has the superior sound over BT. When I connected a 3.5mm jack from my amp-receiver to each headphone set I could not tell any noticeable difference. Both headphones were able to be manipulated by my amp's EQ and responded accordingly. Bose has the better (HRAs) High Resolution Audio codecs to transmit CD quality music over BT. But, Bose is a lot more expensive too. For the price point, in my opinion, Jabra Elite 85h is less expensive, and features better AI and ANC technology. Both are outstanding over-the-ear earphones. Hope my opinions help you. . . . . . .
