If you haven't heard of the Far Cry series, you either don't play video games or you live under a rock. TBH, I never really enjoyed the original Far Cry games. Great ideas, but I guess the consoles back then just didn't have enough horsepower to allow Ubisoft to really open up. Flash forward to the PS4, and you've got plenty of resources to make a superb open world game.
You can go ninja and do silent kills a la MGS, you can snipe, you can throw rocks to distract guards, or heck, you can throw bait and call animals to attack for you while you sit in the shadows. The point is, you've got freedom to play the game however you want. There's only a few story points where you're really pushed to play a certain way, and for the sake of not spoiling the story, I won't be specific. But for 99% of the game, you can be as sneaky or as guns blazing as you want.
Plenty of interesting characters, lots of optional quests to keep you buried in the game for weeks, and the guns have enough individual character to make you want to try different guns.

Who would have thought there'd ever come a time when desperately searching the environment for what little resources you can find to survive was your idea of relaxing? While the daylight hours may be filled with scavenging for supplies and weapons, the fact that the sun shines in the sky eases your anxiety, because you know what happens the moment it dips beyond the horizon. With the dying light comes a host of horrors that turn the hunter into the hunted. Hoards of infected become aggressive and increase in numbers, searching for you as you searched for weapons to kill them just hours before. But the infected aren't even the most frightening threat. There's something else out there that lurks in the darkness, a more sinister predator that stalks its prey. You are that prey.Set in a vast and dangerous open world, Dying Light drops you in the middle of a waking nightmare in a first-person survival horror experience that will have your heart pounding and adrenaline pumping the second night falls. During the day, you're free to roam the expansive urban environment to scavenge for supplies and craft the weapons you need to defend yourself against the victims of a vicious outbreak. A variety of melee weapons, including knives, bats, axes, sledgehammers and more, are at your disposal, as well as guns and other firepower. The sizeable crafting system enables you to create a slew of more powerful, more potent weapons and equipment with specialized ammunition. You'll need every weapon you can lay your hands on to survive the night — when the infected roam free and the night-loving predators begin their hunt. Whether you're tracking prey or evading predators, you can seamlessly leap between buildings, grapple up walls and pounce on enemies with free running movement. With breathtaking visuals and immersive gameplay, powered by Chrome Engine 6, you'll begin to fear the night right along with your character. But your only chance is to face the dying light and use every ounce of wit, skill and courage you have to survive until morning comes.

I used to love all things zombie. Walking Dead, CoD, Left 4 Dead, 28 Days, if it had zombies in it, I watched/played/read it. All. But then, Hollywood and video game publishers caught on, and we just got slammed with zombie this and zombie that. Not to mention, Dead Island didn't exactly impress me, so I had low expectations for Dying Light.
Well, somehow, the simple addition of parkour makes this game stand out. Movement is fluid, interesting, and most importantly, fun. There's the usual zombie tropes like the big behemoth boss zombie (nemesis) and the spitters, but still, parkour is where it's at. Heck, even being able to make super OP weapons is less fun than zipping around the buildings like an urban ninja. Plus, you can dropkick zombies once you get enough skill points.
It's awesome. The campaign is medium length, so you probably won't be able to finish it in a day, and there's plenty of side quests and challenges to keep you busy long thereafter. Well worth the price of entry.

The game starts with an interesting premise. Bad guys are going back in time and changing history. You create a character and tackle missions. The problem is, right now, the server seems to be unstable as I've been kicked off too often. Combat is fun at first, but as you get to higher levels, becomes cheap as the computer opponents can do things that you're not allowed. For instance, I can't use my ultimate evade while I'm getting hit, but isn't that the whole point of "ultimate" evade? But, mid combo, my opponents will break my combo and then start unleashing on me. Targeting in combat is wonky, as you're really not supposed to fight more than one person at a time. Whoops, because later missions will have you fighting 3 or usually more people at a time.
That being said, these are the technical negatives. From an overall package, despite the technical issues and flaws, I'm having a really fun time playing through iconic DBZ battles, using super moves from my childhood fave characters.
So in summary, if you like DBZ, this is probably the best DBZ game that's come out in America to date. If you're not a DBZ fan, then the mediocre combat and finnicky online will probably mean you should wait until the price drops.
