groomer works well

Waterproof groomer so it can be used in the shower. Has two sides, one for trimming and one for shaving, and the blades are advertised as self-sharpening. I've not owned this long enough to test that claim, but I don't see why they wouldn't hold up. Works well with attachments, just a solid all-around groomer, no pun intended.

The Bose Smart Speaker 500 delivers wall-to-wall stereo sound from a single wireless smart speaker. Built-in voice control from Amazon Alexa puts songs, playlists, and more at the tip of your tongue. And you have the freedom to control the music your way - with your voice, with a tap on the top controls, or with the Bose app.

i love this speaker

Bose sound quality with the convenience of Alexa. Small footprint matte black speaker that looks great on my counter, and the sound still fills my living room. One con is that the speaker is largely adjusted via the Bose Music app, which inherently locks to only a few music services. So if you have Spotify free, unfortunately the speaker only works with Spotify premium. Being an Alexa-capable speaker, obviously the Amazon music services are seamlessly integrated.

amazing workout earbuds
on November 1, 2018

The Tarahs were clearly designed by people who either work out or are close to people who do. Sweatproofing seems to be a common sense requirement for earbuds advertised for exercise, so the IP67 rating is expected. What's nice though is Jaybird opens up a free app to control the EQ on your buds, so you can tailor your Tarahs for whatever type of workout music you use. Sound quality-wise, do they sound as clear as my Grados? Definitely not, but crystal clear, 100% accurate, sound reproduction isn't what Jaybird was aiming for, so as long as you understand what you're getting the Tarah for, you won't be disappointed.

love SHARK vacuums
on October 23, 2018

We currently have a smaller, lighter weight Shark vacuum in use at home. Shark seems to make solid products that do well. We've never had issues with our Shark appliances, vacuums or otherwise, so if it ain't broke, we're not going to try to fix it. The one thing we had to do with our other vacuum is periodically use a blade to cut hair that would inevitably amass on the brushroll. Once we saw Shark made a model that self-cleans hair off the brush, we didn't need to read anything else. Just more of the same easy to use design, good power, and now with hopefully no need to manually remove hair any more. What's not to like

replaced our old Ninja
on October 23, 2018
Posted by: codeblue
from Fishers
We had pretty much the exact same model gifted to us for our wedding gift, and it was used probably 360 days out of 365. Every morning, we made fruit/veggie smoothies to start the day, and it was great. Fast forward, and a few years later after much much use, the blades still seem sharp but the attachment point where the tumblers lock onto the blender unit itself seemed to be loosening up or something. We couldn't see any definite gaps or issues, but it seemed off.
So we replaced it with a new model. Still happy, still the same performance. Nothing negative at all about this blender. If anything, we use it more now because we've added +1 to our household.

does everything as advertised

We've spent hundreds of dollars trying to find a decent, not the best even, baby monitor. We started with budget, then tried going more expensive, but we haven't found one that hit the sweet spot. The panasonic is our latest addition.
We generally trended with mostly wifi-enabled baby monitor so theoretically, while I was at work, I could watch what mommy and the LO are playing. We've actually never used that function as we typically send pics or facetime when the chance is there. So, that left a huge possible vulnerability to outside hackers for very little realworld beneft.
The panasonic uses what they call a DECT system, but basically it's self-contained so nobody is supposed to be able to hack into the connection and start being creepy. The connection works well in our small place, but I can't speak to people who live in big houses. The features are well thought out and work decently well. The one gripe is the video quality isn't as crisp as some of our other monitors, but it's "good enough" and not bad for the price.
We still haven't found one monitor that is the perfect one, but this one checks all the boxes with at least above average satisfaction overall and is safer than a internet connected monitor to boot. FWIW, it's currently still the monitor in use at our place.

the smartwatch I was waiting for
on October 1, 2018
Posted by: codeblue
from Fishers, IN
I've been waiting for years now to buy a smartwatch because I felt they were all with critical shortcomings, either the battery life was too short to make wearing the "watch" worth it, or they didn't offer enough smart functions for me to give up my Tag.
Finally, Samsung's latest galaxy watch has a nice form factor, >2days battery life, and with their watchface app store, I can find a watchface that looks just like my analog watches.
Ticked all the boxes I needed, and the watch actually looks nice enough for me to wear to work comfortably. Finally.

Good vacuum with spotty connection
on September 17, 2018
Posted by: codeblue
from Fishers, IN
We’re upgrading from a less expensive robot vacuum, so this is mostly a comparo.
The Neato has remarkably strong pickup, as we can tell it’s getting all the nitty gritty from deep in our carpets that our previous vacuum never got. The mapping functionality is fairly accurate, and you can use the app to draw “no-go” lines on a blueprint of your home which the Neato follows. Navigation is strong due to a more organized cleaning pattern than the random zig-zag used by cheaper vacuums.
The only minus, which YMMV, was the app for us. The vacuum seems to lose its connection, and reconnecting the vac to WiFi was sometimes pretty frustrating.
Still, when the WiFi works, the vacuum works like a dream, easily controlled via your phone using the Neato app.

Comfortable gaming headphones
on August 20, 2018

Everything works as described. The mic is detachable and flips up and down on a clean swivel. The auto-adjusting band works better than one would expect, and the large sponge cuffs are comfortable and feel fine even after extended use. The headphone cable is also detachable, meaning you don't have to replace the entire set of cans if you mess up the cable, which is also a huge plus.

Perfect for a home station
on July 25, 2018
Posted by: codeblue
from Fishers, IN
So with any desktop review, I’m sure the first thought is, “can’t I build a rig for cheaper?” And the answer is always yes. Yes, you can build a rig with the same (often better) specs as a production rig for cheaper.
But I’m not a college student looking to max out my settings on the latest games. I need a solid work station with good enough specs to let me play a few games here and there.
And this is perfect. The 23.8 in screen is a great size to be productive on. I’m able to play a few rounds of overwatch.
The touchscreen feature I’m a bit skeptical of on desktops, but hey for those that need it, it was pretty responsive the few times I tested (...before immediately wiping my screen bc I’m ocd and leaving smudges on my screen is crazy to me)
All in all, a nice convenient one stop shop setup that gets everything done well.
