High Quality Webcam
on March 17, 2024
Posted by: PG460
Video conferencing became a necessity for my job during the pandemic. I’ve conducted countless streaming meetings, interviews, and presentations, and as the pandemic has passed, its advantages have made it an indispensable tool for workplace communication. I think that having good image quality and good lighting is essential for a professional videoconference. I’ve used Logitech webcams for many years and have always found them to be great but in an effort to improve video quality even further, I was excited to try the new Logitech MX Brio Ultra HD 4K webcam with its 8.5 megapixel sensor it can do 4K at 30fps and 1080p at 60 fps.
In the box you get the Brio, a usb C cable, and some documentation. The camera is surprising heavy and has a great quality feel to it. The body is mostly metal with some plastic on the rear. The camera mount is also very nice with a swivel feature and a reusable sticky pad to securely mount it to the rear of your monitor. This comes in handy when using the Brio Show Mode. This feature allows you to tilt the camera forward and down toward your desk in order to display items to other participants during a presentation. The camera attaches to the mount clip magnetically and holds strongly when attached. The Brio can also be mounted to a tripod since the underside of the cam has a threaded mount. The lens is glass and is quite large. Rotating the outside edge of the lens opens and closes the privacy shutter. On the front of the camera are 2 integrated dual beam-forming noise-reducing microphones. Here you also find an LED light to let you know when the camera is on.
To connect the camera to your computer you just connect the included usb C cable. This cable is heavy duty and is probably the thickest usb cable I’ve seen. No doubt in an effort to better transmit the 4K video. This cable is unfortunately a bit short for my liking. The Logitech software can be found by scanning the QR code in the box. At the link you can download the Logi Options + software and / or the G Hub software. Both software have the same camera configuration options but I think the G Hub software is much nicer to use. The camera video looks great out of the box but adjusting the image settings significantly improves the image quality. Here you have a bunch of settings to tweak. On the Crop tab you can adjust the field of view to 65°, 78°, or 90°. I love this feature to adjust the camera view. Here you can also zoom the camera and adjust position. On the Exposure tab you can use auto exposure or adjust it manually. There is a low light compensation feature and you can also toggle HDR. On the Image tab you can configure a full range of color and brightness settings. On the Focus tab you can turn auto focus on or off. After playing with the brightness, color temperature, contrast, saturation, and sharpness the Brio image quality was significantly improved at least to my preferences. Once configured, you can also name and save your settings for future use. The Brio MX also uses AI to further automatically improve image and sound quality. I find the resulting image quality superior to any other webcam I’ve previously used. The 4K image is crisp and detailed and the Brio performs very well in challenging low light situations. The Logitech Brio MX is great solution for your professional looking streaming and videoconferencing needs.

Experience stunning performance with the huge 45” curved WQHD LG UltraGear OLED gaming monitor. How huge is this UltraGear? The 45" with a 21:9 aspect ratio has more screen area than a 49" gaming monitor with a 32:9 aspect ratio- more screen for a more captivating experience. The OLED screen is certified VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 which enables gamers to experience HDR in games as developers intended. The screen displays stunning, rich black levels and bright, deep color contrast for the on-screen visuals gamers crave. Stay a step ahead of the competition with an ultra-fast refresh rate up to 240Hz and .03ms response time that will bring you into the game like never before¹. And with the steep and dramatic 800R curve, you’ll feel enveloped in the action. Looks Great & Improves Your Gameplay

This LG UltraGear 45GS95QE-B 45" monitor is my second LG monitor but my first with an OLED display. I own two LG OLED televisions so I expected amazing things from this monitor. The box is huge and somewhat unwieldy. Inside you’ll find the monitor, stand, base, a cable management clip, hdmi cable, display port cable, usb c cable, power adapter, and manual. The box is labeled to show which side is the front of the monitor. Inside, the monitor is encased and supported in 2 pieces of curved styrofoam. Unboxing with the monitor facing down makes the attachment of the monitor stand the easiest. The base simply screws onto the stand and the stand just snaps in place on the rear of the monitor. No tools required. The monitor is 39.1 inches wide and weighs in at 24.9 lbs. so it was somewhat awkward to maneuver into position on my desk without help. On the rear you’ll find 2 X 2.1 hdmi ports, 1 X 1.4 display port, 1 usb c, and 1 headphone jack. There are also two internal 7 watt speakers. On the bottom front of the monitor is a joystick to access menu settings. Here you’ll find a bunch of game, picture, sound, and input settings. If you’re into RGB lighting, the setting to turn on and customize the rear and bottom lighting effect is found here. I think it is a nice touch.
Once connected to my PC and powered on it was an impressive sight to behold. This is an ultra widescreen curved WQHD gaming monitor with FreeSync and NVIDIA G-SYNC support and HDR10. I could immediately see the incredibly super dark inky OLED blacks, not surprising with a 1,500,000:1 contrast ratio. I just had to jump on a game to experience this LG in action. Adjusting my resolution settings to 3440x1440, I started one of my favorite multiplayer games. With 98.5% DCI-P3 color gamut expression I was immediately struck by the vivid colors compared to my prior monitor. Colors popped off the screen. At 45 inches and with an 800R curve I felt utterly immersed in this game unlike ever before. I felt transported. The 45GS95QE supports 240hz refresh rate and has a .03 millisecond response time so with NVIDIA G-Sync / AMD FreeSync Premium Pro my gameplay was impressively fluid with no lag and zero screen tearing. This is what it’s all about! Playing a game skillfully is about outperforming your opponents by milliseconds and all these great specs add up to noticeably improved gameplay. If you want to impress your friends and defeat your opponents this monitor will help you do both. It looks great and performs great. Highly recommended.

Great HP Printer
on February 11, 2024
Posted by: PG460
I’ve used HP printers for over 20 years. I’ve strayed a few times but I have always quickly returned. I just find HP quality, features, and support second to none. I was happy to try the HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e Wireless All-In-One Inkjet printer to see how it measures up to my prior experience. Unboxing is simple. HP even has the printer in a plastic bag within the box to aid in lifting it out. Nice touch. In the box you’ll find the printer, ink, power cord, and some paperwork. Remove all the packing tape and cardboard in and around the printer and you’re ready for setup. There is a quick start guide included which has a QR code which direct you to the online setup guide. Here you are instructed step by step through a very simple setup process that directs you what to do next on the 8135e 2.7 inch color LCD touchscreen. Simply select your language, install paper into the 225 page paper tray, install the ink, and align the printheads. Next you’re prompted to install the HP Smart app on your computer which then guides you through the rest of setup. I already had another HP printer so I had the app. Once you have the app simply select add new printer. The app detects the 8135 and then you just add it to your wifi network. Next you can activate HP+ which include a 3 month trial to instant ink. With that you’re done and ready to print. HP printer setup is remarkably easy. Gone are the days of tedious printer setup via usb cables and driver installation. Spec wise you get 10 ppm in color and 20 ppm in black. I love the double sided printing and scanning feature. The 8135e is of course a wifi printer so you can print, scan, copy, or fax documents from your phone or tablet with the HP Smart app. Even better you can also print from anywhere over the internet using the Smart app. Overall I love the design, quality, and features of the HP 8135e. Definitely a great quality printer.

Love This Camera!
on December 4, 2023
Posted by: PG460
Having never owned a DJI product before I was truly excited about trying one. Their drones are top notch but I have no doubt I’d fly one into a tree within minutes. A camera on the other hand is much more my speed, and the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 looked to me like a fascinating product. I got the Creator Combo which includes some great accessories. In the box you find everything tucked nicely inside a camera bag. The bag itself looks like a small toiletry bag. Inside you find the Pocket 3, a protective camera cover, a usb c cable, a pocket 3 handle, a battery handle, wrist strap, a wide angle lens, the DJI Mic 2 transmitter, mic windscreen, mic magnet, and a mini tripod. Please note that no micro sd card is included in the kit.
The combo comes in at at about $150 more than the cam alone option and with so many included accessories I think it’s well worth it. The camera itself is solid and beautifully constructed. The swivel 2 inch touch screen is great for horizontal or vertical shooting. The protective cover is basically a plastic shell case which protects the screen and gimbal when the cam is not in use. It also holds the wide angle lens and has a spot where the mic clips on. The wide angle lens is magnetic and just snaps onto the camera and expands the field of view to 108°. The included handle is nice to extend the camera for a more comfortable and substantial grip. The handle also has a usb port which allows charging of the camera when attached. The battery handle charges the internal battery with its 950 mAh battery. It will extend camera operating time by about 62%. It would be nice to have a few of these on hand for extended shooting. On the bottom of both handles you get a 1/4″ tripod thread. The included tripod is small and basic but still great to have for some situations. Otherwise you’ll want a more substantial tripod. The highlight of the combo accessories is the the DJI Mic 2 with windscreen is a great add on for professional audio recording results. I’d say the low point of the package is the camera bag which is adequate but is quite small for easy access to all the contents.
For setup you’re directed to download the DJI Mimo app which walks you through the process. You simply connect to Pocket 3 to your device then your prompted to create an account and register your camera. A firmware update later and the Pocket 3 was ready to use. The Mimo app is really nice and incredibly useful for changing camera settings and for its live view functionality where you can view what the camera sees on a much larger screen. As for the camera itself, access to settings is very intuitive by swiping down you find 8 icons with a multitude of camera settings and various configuration preferences. Here you can also save your shooting preferences in multiple custom profiles to easily set again in the future with just one touch. Swipe left and access more pro settings including white balance, shutter speed, ISO, color profile, focus, sharpness, noise reduction, and mic settings. Here you can also use glamour mode which alters your appearance while filming including brightening your teeth, smoothing your skin, slimming your face, adding blush & lipstick, plus many more. Interesting effects which I think is yet another great feature by DJI. Under the focus settings is another notable feature called product showcase which autofocuses on an object that you hold up in front of you. This works incredibly well and would be great for video product reviews. If you swipe up on the screen you find the settings to adjust video resolution, frame rate, and aspect ratio. On the main screen a touch on the camera icon you can select your shooting modes from panorama, photo, video, low light, slow motion, and time lapse modes. Within each mode you can configure additional settings.
Using the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is so much fun. The resulting image quality is truly impressive with its 1 inch CMOS sensor it can record up to 4K 120fps. Combined with the incredibly smooth stabilization from the gimbal, my videos looked truly professional. Using ActiveTrack 6.0 which automatically tracks your every move and keeps you centered. It does this so effectively that your videos look like you have a cameraman filming your every move. I was most impressed by the low light capabilities of the Pocket 3. While filming in low light environments I was skeptical that the resulting video would be even useable since it was so dark but here the advantages of the 1 inch sensor are evident with stunning low light results. When playing back my footage on a large screen 4K TV friends and family were shocked by the overall image quality and professional results. I’m a tech junkie and this is hands down the coolest device I’ve used in ages. Love it. Buy it if you’re a vlogger or if you just want amazing quality video of your kids, pets, and vacations.

Let Your Creativity Run Wild
on November 29, 2023

It’s been years since I got my last GoPro camera which was the Hero 7. I loved it at the time so was happy to try the latest GoPro Hero 12 and in this case the action camera bundle. Unboxing you’ll find the camera and accessories nicely packed in a well made carrying case. Inside you get a floating hand grip, the Headstrap 2.0, a curved adhesive mount, a mounting buckle & thumb screw, 2 Enduro batteries, a usb C cable, and some manuals. Please note that no micro sd card is included. With the price of sd cards so low one would think at least a 128gb card would be included so you’re ready for use right out of the box. Make sure to get a v30 or UHS-3 card. I do however appreciate that two 1720 mAh batteries are included in this bundle and which provide at least an hour of shooting time each regardless of resolution.
I popped in a battery, my sd card, and started charging. You get a usb C cable but no charging adapter which is fine because we all have plenty of them on hand. A card with a QR code directs you to the GoPro Quik app and instructs to update the camera before use. I already had the app so I just proceeded to adding a new camera. The app simply walks you through this process step by step including connecting to your wifi network and updating the firmware. You have to update before using the camera. Setup and update took less than 15 minutes. The GoPro itself has a black and blue speckled appearance with a slightly grippy texture. These cams are meant to take abuse so it is resilient and solid feeling. The Hero 12 is also waterproof to 33 feet and the lens is hydrophobic for clear shots of all your water sport adventures. The included floating grip will prove valuable for these situations.
I got out my old cam for quick comparison to discover that the GoPro has grown up, now slightly larger in all dimensions with a larger lens and displays. I was eager to next discover what other improvements awaited me. First off the image quality has been improved with video resolution of 5.3K, high dynamic range photo and video capabilities and 27 megapixel photos. All of which was dramatically evident as I tested video and photo camera modes. Videos were rich, detailed, with vibrant color reproduction. Image stabilization with HyperSmooth 6.0 is impressive and is certainly far more advanced than my old Hero. Still not as good as a gimbal but very close. Adjusting modes and settings is a breeze with the onscreen interface by swiping down, up, left, or right you access every setting and function. I also like that you can display these menus in either a simplified easy mode with basic settings to a much more detailed pro option with endless settings. The GoPro Quick app mirrors all these options. I love using the app to make these adjustments simply because of the increased ease of manipulating settings on a much larger screen. I do wish that the front display was also a touch screen where you could adjust settings. Instead it acts mainly as a forward facing display of what the camera sees. Great for selfies. Another great addition is the 1/4-20 tripod mount on the bottom of this GoPro between two mounting fingers, both of which offer versatile and simplified mounting options. The Hero 12 also supports bluetooth earbuds and wireless mics. I don’t own a mic but with this feature just pair your AirPods and you have wireless mic capabilities plus you can use remote voice commands. It’s great experimenting with settings and I look forward to playing with the built in Night Effects modes including Star Trails, Vehicle Lights and Light Painting. I am truly impressed with the GoPro Hero 12 and I look forward to letting my creativity run wild with this camera.

Prepared For Multiple Seasons
on November 16, 2023
Posted by: PG460
With twelve large trees on my property my backyard was inundated with falling leaves when the Greenworks 80V 20” Snow Blower and 730 CFM Handheld Blower 2-Piece Winter Combo Kit arrived. Just in time for fall and there was even snow in the forecast so I felt prepared for multiple seasons.
The box is pretty hefty but manageable. Inside you find the blower, 2 80v 4.0 Ah batteries, a rapid charger, blower concentrator nozzle, the snowblower, and the manuals. The snowblower comes partially unassembled but assembly was a snap. No tools are required and it took about 10 minutes. The snowblower is solid and well made. It also looks sharp being mostly black with bright green accents. I’ve used gasoline powered leaf blowers and snow blowers for years and what a pain they can be with their weight, noise, exhaust fumes, and maintenance requirements. Plus no need to run to buy gas and no pull cord, instead just pop in a battery and you’re ready to roll.
The batteries come charged but I quickly topped them off. The rapid charger lives up to its name, taking only about 40 minutes to charge an empty battery. The charger itself is surprisingly noisy since it has a cooling fan for the battery. You definitely won’t be taking a nap with this thing in the room. With leaves piling up I was ready to get the yard cleaned up. Insert a battery and a press of the trigger and the brushless motor kicks in with 730 CFM. Moving large quantities of leaves was effortless with 170 MPH of blowing power. I was impressed. I quickly learned to be careful since while blowing leaves from my landscaping the blower was strong enough to also easily blow away my mulch. This thing is relatively quiet compared to my gas blower but equally effective. Not too heavy, but I will add a shoulder strap for extended comfort. One battery lasted me the quoted 30 minutes of use. I still had work to do but this set conveniently comes with a second battery. I slapped the empty on the charger and off I went back to work knowing when I was empty again that the charging battery would be ready to roll. The amount of pressure on the trigger controls the power output and there is also a cruise control button that locks the trigger to the selected speed. Very handy. Need more power in some areas, just press the turbo mode button for an extra blast of power. I really like the overall power and effectiveness of this blower and was pleased with the end result on my yard.
With snow in the forecast I found myself unusually excited and looking forward to cleaning up after the snowstorm so I could try the Greenworks snowblower. But alas it was not meant to be. I did power on and was again pleased with the power and yet lack of noise compared to my gas blower. No gas and no gagging exhaust. The padded handle is very comfortable and the LED lights appear to be bright enough for nighttime snow removal. Adjusting the direction and angle of the chute is a breeze. I am confident this blower will be adequate to clear my driveway, patio, and sidewalks with a few fully charged batteries. This blower and snowblower set is a great combination, plus you can add additional 80v tools. I already ordered the trimmer. Highly recommended.

Great Solar Powered 3K Security Camera
on October 22, 2023
Posted by: PG460
I have a few brands of security cameras and Eufy is my favorite because of the quality of their incredibly innovative products. I already own the dual cam Eufy doorbell so I was excited to try the Eufy SoloCam S340 with dual cameras. Talk about innovative, the S340 has 3K resolution, is solar powered, and connects via wifi so no wiring required. Plus this Eufy offers 360 degree surveillance due to its motorized tracking ability when it senses motion.
In the box you find the S340, a solar panel, mounting bracket, hardware, usb-c charging cables, and a quick start guide. Just grab the Eufy app for setup and just add a device. Search for the S340 and then you can select to connect it directly to your wifi network or you can connect it to your Eufy Home Base if you already have one. I do have one but I discovered that I could not connect to it. I’m assuming because it’s an older Home Base. This was somewhat aggravating and disappointing. Having no other option, I connected directly to wifi. You then use the 8gb of onboard storage for video. You get more storage with the Home Base. Once connected to wifi there was a prompt for a firmware update. This update was quick.
I was ready for mounting so I attached the solar panel to the top of the camera with the solar panel mount and the shorter usb cable. You can do this or mount the panel elsewhere separately if you prefer. A longer charging cable is included for this option. I referenced the quick start guide for mounting and installation instructions. I was torn on where to place the S340 but ultimately opted for camera coverage for my patio, rear gate, and driveway. They suggest mounting 7 to 10 feet high. I only had a few options where I could easily mount the camera so it ended up being at about 7 feet. I got multiple motion notifications during setup so I knew everything was working well.
I jumped on the app to check out the live view. Here you see the video feed from both cameras. The top is more of a wide angle shot that covered a huge swath of my backyard. The lower video is zoomed view. Surprisingly I found the zoomed view not particularly useful. To me it seems too zoomed and not independently adjustable. You can however opt for single view in the settings. I frankly think that mounting at 7 feet is too low. I intend to move the cam higher. The video quality is very nice at 3K which looks much better than my other Eufy cams which are 2K. You can remotely pan and tilt the cam in live view. You can also turn the spotlight on and off. There is a speaker on the camera so you can also talk through the cam in live view which is very convenient say if your getting a package and want to talk to the delivery person. Here you can also record a video or take a photo. Night vision is excellent in infrared but you can also opt for color night vision which turns on the spotlight when motion is detected. In live view you can also turn the spotlight on and off. I love the ai tracking feature which follows an individual as they move through the detection area. In the app you’ll find a multitude of settings. Here you can adjust the motion detection activity zone. I have mine aimed at the gate from my driveway. You can select detection of humans, vehicles, or all motion. I opted for human detection. I love the instant notifications when motion is detected. You can select which notifications you prefer in the settings. I selected text and a thumbnail so you can quickly see an image of what was detected even prion to checking the recorded video.
Eufy has continued its innovative development of wifi security cams with the solar powered dual cam S340. It really is a full featured device with great image quality. I’m already planning on getting another one.

Perfect for Holiday Lighting Automation
on October 21, 2023
Posted by: PG460
If you don’t have any smart home devices you really need to get onboard. Smart home devices are an incredibly convenient technology that has automated my homes lighting and security. I have nearly 50 devices including security cameras, smart plugs, locks, fans, vacuum, air purifier, and speakers. All of which can be controlled using a phone, tablet, or by voice. I have a bunch of TP-Link smart plugs but the Tapo TP25 outdoor smart wifi plug is my first outdoor smart plug. What a great addition to my smart home and just in time for Christmas lights.
In the box is the 2 outlet TP25 and a quick start guide. You’re directed to get the Tapo app. Upon installing you’re prompted to create an account. I already had a TP Link Kasa account so I logged in using that account and it worked. Tapo also added my Kasa devices to the new app. Setup was a snap. You basically plus it in and follow the apps step by step instructions. You connect the TP25 to your wifi network and then I was prompted to update the firmware. The entire setup too maybe 5 minutes. You can easily control Tapo from the app. You can set timers and automations. I also added Tapo to my Google Home setup so I can then also control it with voice commands. Even better you can then utilize geofencing to automatically turn lights off when you leave your home and on when you arrive. I use Google but you can also use Tapo with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Samsung SmartThings. The TP25 is designed as an outdoor device with an IP65 waterproof and flame retardant rating but you could also use it indoors as a double smart plug to control 2 devices individually. The Tapo TP25 is a perfect addition to my smart home to automate my outdoor Halloween and Christmas lighting. I’ll be buying more.

Future Proofers & Early Adopters Line Up
on September 29, 2023

I’ve used Linksys products for 20 years and I’ve always been a fan. As wireless technology advanced I was quick to try the Linksys Velop mesh network solutions which have effectively eliminated dead zones and sluggish wifi spots throughout my home. The latest generation of this product is the tri-band Linksys Velop Pro 7 which supports the latest, greatest, and fastest wifi 7 standard. Wifi 7 is thirteen times faster than wifi 5 and nearly five times faster than wifi 6 with wifi speeds up to 46 GBit/s and an ultra-wide bandwidth of 320 MHz. These are very impressive specifications but I’m only aware of a few devices that support wifi 7. So this is at the moment mainly for future proofing and patient early adopters.
In the box you get 3 nodes, 3 power adapters, an ethernet cable, and some paperwork. You are offered a QR code that directs you to the Linksys app for setup. I already had the app so I proceeded to add a new device. You just connect the first node to your modem via ethernet and plug the 2 additional nodes nearby. Give Velop the same SSID as your current wifi network so you can avoid the hassle of changing passwords on all your devices. Following the setup steps is a breeze. Linksys boasts easy setup for this device in their advertising but I wouldn’t say it was that quick. Overall setup took me about 20 minutes. Once complete you can move the child nodes and place them throughout your home to extend your network and coverage. The Pro 7 nodes will provide wifi coverage up to an expansive 9,000 square feet. Each node has 1 2.5 gigabit ethernet port and 4 1 gigabit ports.
I have no wifi 7 devices and probably neither do you so wifi 7 performance is untestable at the moment. I do have a wifi 6e iPad and I was at first disappointed with speeds. After a few reboots of my modem and Velop and then running the channel optimization within the app I did reach speeds of 1.4 Gbps. Quite impressive but these speeds are somewhat expectedly the same speeds as my previous wifi 6e router. Coverage was also as expected with excellent speeds throughout my home. Ultimately if you’re in the market for a new router, you might as well future proof yourself while you’re at it and make the jump to wifi 7.

Relax While Reducing Wrinkles
on September 20, 2023

I think I look pretty good for my age but who would mind looking even younger. I was skeptical about the legitimacy of this technology but as I researched LED skincare masks I discovered there are plenty of studies which support its effectiveness in healthier looking skin while also reducing fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen production. I was curious to try the Therabody TheraFace Mask with its 648 medical-grade LED lights that emits red, red + infrared, and blue LED light. This mask has many more lights than other products I looked at. The red and red + infrared light is effective for the treatment of wrinkles while the blue light is helpful for acne. The TheraFace also has a massage feature with 3 vibration modes including continuous, breathing, and wave.
I have to say this thing is an odd looking device that I hoped would arrive concealed in a plain brown cardboard box and it did. In the box you find the LED face mask, a usb c charging cable, and the manual. The mask came charged so I started using it immediately. The mask is cordless once charged. On the mask you find a LED button and and a vibration button. Here you can select the LED light or vibration options you prefer or you can just start an automatic 9 minute treatment that cycles through all 3 light settings in combination with with all 3 vibration settings. The massage elements are powered by 17 QX-micro motors. There is a silicon eye shield on the inside of the mask that protects your eyes from the LED lights. The shield is removable if you prefer to just close your eyes during the treatments. So far I’ve just opted for the automatic treatment. You just adjust the head straps and slip the mask on. To start a treatment you simply push the button the right side of the mask. As the lights start, the massage elements also start. There are massage elements above the eyebrows, on the temple, and on the head straps at the top of the head and on the rear of the head. The massage sensation in each mode is quite relaxing. I find that the cycling of LED color and massage modes make the treatment time pass quicker since each of the 3 modes lasts 3 minutes.
I’ve read that wrinkle reduction results can take from 2 to 4 months. I’m only a week into treatments so time will tell in regard to results. In the meantime the Therabody TheraFace Mask has become a relaxing part of my daily health and beauty regimen.
