With powerful 40mm drivers and exceptional acoustics, Hesh Evo features audio quality that has been refined over four generations of constant improvement. The clear, rich sound rivals the most expensive headphones out there — at a price that’s surprisingly affordable.

Decent headphones for students and travelers.

The Skullcandy Hesh Evo headphones offer decent sound with some really convenient features. You get rapid charging with a 36 hour battery life, a slim profile, Tile tech, and hinges that fold, pivot, and swivel for supreme comfort. Unfortunately, the materials feel a bit cheap and the sound is only ok. Vocals seem a bit flat and recessed, with bass that’s notable at times, but nothing strong or remarkable. Think entry level car stereo sound quality, except these can get really, really loud while staying surprisingly clear.
Design wise, the profile is nice and slim so it won’t look silly on your head, while the pivot and swivel hinges allow a custom fit and tight seal. It’s funny, the lightweight plastic used to make the headphones feels cheap, but by keeping the weight down, the Hesh Evo stays comfortable over a long period of time, and doesn’t try to slide off of your head. Controlling the headphones is pretty standard with all of the buttons for bluetooth pairing, play/stop, volume up/fwd, and volume down/rvrse under a single rubber pad. I had no issues pairing the headphones with my phone, and there’s no app needed unless you want to use the built-in Tile tech, which is a pretty cool feature if you lose your headphones a lot. You can sync it up with your cell phone and it’ll help you locate on a map where you last had them on, and activate an alarm to help you find them, even if they’re off. Super convenient if you travel with your headphones a lot, or have family members that like to borrow your things.
Overall, the Hesh Evo offers an interesting mix of features, quality, and performance. The sound is loud and clear, but the sound quality is average. The build quality is only ok, but offers excellent comfort in a sleek profile. The Tile tech, long battery life, and rapid charging are all huge pluses though, which makes the Hesh Evo a strong choice for students and travelers.
PROS
- Sound can be turned up really loud
- 36 hour battery life
- Rapid charging USB C connection
- Tile location tech
- Comfortable to wear over long periods
- Slim profile
- Swivel and pivot hinges
CONS
- OK sound quality
- Cheap plastic

Neutralizes smells and kills airborne viruses.

The Blueair 7470i is an exceptional air purifier with results you can actually smell. I’ve had a few other air purifiers with the usual UV and ionization features, but I honestly couldn’t tell you how well they’ve been working. I run them with the premise that they’re doing their job, but outside of being loud, I’m not sure. However, with the 7470i, I can actually smell the difference in the rooms I put it in. It works so well, I don’t bother with air fresheners or scented plug-ins anymore, because the 7470i noticeably gets rid of smells quickly. Aside from passing the nose test, the touch screen display tells you how clean the air is with color coded light bars for gas and particulate air quality. I know these sensors actually work, because… how can I put it? Sometimes, when I pass gas, the gas light bar turns red and the fan switches to high. This machine can literally smell your farts and it’s the best and most hilarious thing. It also does a great job with other smelly things and you can monitor how clean the air is down to the 1 micron level. The GermShield technology is another feature that really sets this air purifier apart. It’s been tested to kill 99% of airborne viruses, mold, and bacteria, including H1N1. It hasn’t been tested for covid19 yet, but it certainly helps by getting rid of the rest. But maybe the most convenient trait about this air purifier is how quiet it is. I leave it on auto and the fan is generally just a whisper. You can definitely hear it on high, but it’s like a subtle whoosh that you don’t even have to raise your voice over. The 7470i is a bit pricey, but you really get what you pay for here. I’ve used a bunch of air purifiers in the $100+ range, but this one is in a whole other league. With 24/7 GermShield protection, 1 micron air filtration, quiet operation, and gas detection, this is an exceptional air purifier that will quickly give you notable results. Very highly recommended.
FEATURES
- Touch screen display
- Up to 47 watts max
- App control and monitoring
- For rooms up to 20’x20’
- GermShield (actively monitors and kills viruses, mold, and bacteria)
- Quiet
- Purifies air (smoke, dust, pollen, farts)
- Gas and particulate sensor
- Sensor for 1 micron, 2.5 micron, 10 micron air purity

Great sound at every volume. Strong bass.

The Yamaha YH-E700A is an outstanding sounding pair of ANC headphones and a welcome competitor to the market. This is the top of the line model in Yamaha’s new ANC headphone line up and if you’re familiar with any of their other audiophile products, you won’t be disappointed. They’re a bit plain looking, but are super comfortable, sound amazing, and can go days without a charge. I do hope they update the app to add an EQ and a fader to adjust the Ambient Sound level. The bass can be a bit too heavy at times, which an EQ could fix right up and while the Ambient Sound pick up is good, it feels like the music drowns it out if it’s playing. Yamaha touts their Listening Optimizer and Listening Care algorithms as revolutionary, and… I guess they work? I honestly don’t know, but they really do sound good at all volume levels which is what Listening Care aims to do - balance the sound at all volumes. This is especially useful if you tend to turn the volume up to ”wake up” certain frequencies that don’t really seem to come alive at lower volumes with conventional headphones and speakers. I’d say this feature actually works and is a great step towards protecting our hearing for a lifetime of sound. If you’re into cars, it’s like having an engine with a big, wide power band. Every RPM is a sweet spot, it just depends how fast you want to go. The YH-E700A aren’t perfect headphones, but they produce some of the most full and robust sound that’s graced these ears. If you’re in the market for upscale wireless over-the-ear ANC headphones and want the best sound, these just might be it. Check below for more details.
PROS
Excellent sound quality
Strong bass
Clear sound at all volumes
apt-X bluetooth connection
35 hours of battery life
Super comfortable
Pivot, swivel, and folding hinges
Great build quality and details
Sturdy hard case
Intuitive controls
USB-C charging
CONS
No EQ
Sometimes bass heavy
ANC not totally silent
Cannot adjust Ambient Sound level
Low profile buttons hard to feel
Greasy fingers magnet
SOUND
Music is where the Yamaha YH-E700A headphones shine with clear vocals and robust bass. There's a deep, full bass extension to please listeners of every genre and it even comes with some oomph at higher volumes. The driving bass line in “Pray for Me” by Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd commands a presence without getting muddled, and yet it’s delicate enough to catch the echoes and textures of Gary B.B. Coleman’s “The Sky is Crying”. I’ve had headphones with strong bass, but never with this sort of range. If anything, on some tracks the bass is too strong, which an EQ would definitely help settle. Yamaha also includes an aux input to use them as regular wired headphones and even throws in an adapter for the plane. Hardwiring it bypasses the ANC and processing, but I was pleased to find out they sound just as good without them. As much technology Yamaha touts with these headphones, I'm happy it’s not all built on processing. These are excellent sounding headphones which should please music lovers of all types.
ANC
The Active Noise Cancelling works ok, but it doesn’t shut everything out. In fact, I have a hard time telling the difference between ANC on and off, as both allow some sound to leak in. If you just want to muffle the loudness these will do the job, but if you want complete silence, these aren’t it. That said, Yamaha notes how their noise cancelling tech ensures no drop off in sound quality and for a true to signal sound experience, to which all I can say is that they sound excellent with the ANC on, off, or with Ambient Sound. Speaking of which, I really wish the app had a slider for the Ambient Sound to music mix. Sometimes I can hear everything around me clearly and other times it gets drowned out by the music. It works great if I stop playback, but a fader would be really helpful in getting it just right for the moment.
FUNCTION
Connecting and using the YH-700A is a breeze. The controls are just like every other wireless headset you might have tried with buttons for play/pause button, volume up/down, power, and ANC. To skip to the next track just hold the volume up button, and the same with going back a track and the volume down button. To put the bluetooth in search mode simply hold down the power button for 5 seconds. You can even summon Google or Siri by holding down the play button. There’s nothing fancy to relearn here and everything works as it should, which is a huge plus. The only issue I have in terms of function is maybe more of a design issue, but the low profile buttons are shallow and make it a bit difficult figuring out what button you’re using by touch. The volume up button has a little bump that lets your fingers know where they are, but it can be tough to feel for, especially if you’re wearing gloves. I find myself frequently mixing up the play/pause with the volume down button if I go straight for it without starting at the little bump. I wish I could say more about Yamaha Headphones app that connects to this set, but there really isn’t much to it. The only thing you can do with it is turn the “Listening Care” or “Listening Optimizer” on/off, change the noise cancelling mode, check the battery life, or set the auto power-off timer. I’m really surprised there isn’t an EQ or way to adjust the ANC or Ambient Sound mix. Hopefully that comes in a future update.
DESIGN
They’re over-the-ear headphones, so they’re going to be a bit bulky but nothing outside of the norm. I treat them delicately, but the build quality seems good. Really nice tight stitching on the leather and the materials are light and sturdy. It’s mostly a plastic affair, but the headband has a metal band that runs along it. I’m guessing this is used to hide the wires while adding some support and flexibility. The hinges fold and allow the cans to pivot vertically and swivel horizontally to help create a solid and comfortable seal between your head and the headphone cushions. What’s interesting is that despite being leather, they never started feeling hot or uncomfortable like most others do after extended wearing. I’ve comfortably had these on for hours and have never once had to take them off because they felt irritating. Aesthetically, they’re rather plain looking with smooth flat surfaces and a matte black color scheme that attracts every bit of oil on your fingers. You won’t win style points here, but that’s ok because you can drown out all that noise with beautiful music.

Fastest memory, great for gamers and video editors
on December 3, 2020

The Samsung 980 PRO NVME SSD is super fast, tiny, and just all out wonderful storage. It’s amazing how far memory prices and technology have come, but to get a 1TB SSD hard drive that can transfer up to 7GB a second in such a small size at an affordable price is incredible. Granted, it’s not the cheapest memory, but nothing else compares in terms of size and speed. I currently have mine setup with a PCIe adapter that limits it to about 3GB per second, which is less than half the speed it’s capable of, but still very fast and yet only takes up a PCIe slot. I thought about putting it in a portable USB-C external HD case which supposedly will let it transfer at up to 7GB/sec, but I’m using it for gaming for now to decrease load times. I might just get another one to put in an external case to use for photo and video editing though, because 7GB a second will save a ton of time on file transfers and processing. Keep in mind, if you’re installing it to your motherboard it’ll need to be PCIe 4.0 to take full advantage of the 7GB speed, otherwise you’ll likely be capped to around 3.5GB speeds like me. Still super fast and essentially already set for the next generation of motherboards. If you’re looking for super fast storage that’s future tech ready, I highly recommend this drive. Either use it as a super fast external hard drive, or install it directly through M2, or with a cheap PCIe adapter and you’re good to go.

Articulate bass and smooth vocals in compact size.

Outstanding bookshelf speakers. I’ve always wanted a pair of B&W speakers since my audiophile uncle introduced me to them as a teenager and the 607 s2 series do not disappoint. Aesthetically, the black ones look like any other bookshelf speaker with the grill on. The rugged bi-ampable rear connecting posts are about the only hint of something special with the speakers until you listen to them.
Powered with a Denon A/V receiver, they offer a nice wide soundstage for home theater use, but it’s music where these speakers really shine. Mounted on stands about 4’ high, 1’ away from the wall, and about 6’ apart, the 607’s offer open and airy high notes without sounding overly bright or shrill. The bass is smooth and musical with just enough presence to be heard without shaking the walls. If you’re using them in a bookshelf or closer to the wall, they come with foam plugs to tune the bass so they won’t sound too boomy. I didn’t bother using them because of my setup, but I’ll hold on to them in case I move them to a shelf. What’s remarkable about these speakers is how articulate the bass and vocals are. You can hear the detail of every note well with a nice midbass punch that’ll surprise you on some songs. I truly listen to every genre, so I put them through their paces with some Stevie Nicks, Yeezy, Weeknd, Daft Punk, White Stripes, Metallica, Otis Spann, Ariana Grande, etc.. They did a great job with them all, and I was impressed by how smooth they handled the vocals with Ariana and Nicks.
These handle loud music pretty well, but the detail starts to suffer a bit on the loud end when things get really busy, which is totally expected. They’re still pretty new, so I’m hoping this will improve once the speakers are fully broken in. It’s notable that no matter how high I turned them up, the tweeters never sounded overly bright or unbalanced, and I love how open and airy the soundstage seems. In a Dolby Digital 5.1 setup, they provide great clarity and imaging as the front main channels and would make exceptional full range surround speakers if you have the budget. If you want wall thumping goodness, definitely add a subwoofer, but for high fidelity music reproduction, I kind of like these on their own in stereo. These make good home theater speakers but I almost feel like they're under utilized in that manner. Music really makes them shine and if you're looking for a great sounding pair compact bookshelf speakers, definitely check out the B&W 607 s2 speakers.

Just like the dumbbells at commercial gyms.
on November 29, 2020

These are just like the dumbbells you’ll find at commercial gyms. The rubber is well formed and durable. There’s a strong rubber smell at first, but that’s normal for rubber coated free weights and will gradually dissipate over use/time. The handle is a straight bar made out of strong steel with good grip etching. There’s enough space between ends for even the largest hands and they seem well balanced while doing flyes. I know they’re built to last, because FedEx demolished the box they were in, but the dumbbells still look mint. I can’t find any fault with them. If you want the same dumbbells you used at the commercial gyms, you’ll be happy with these.

Awesome streaming projector with Android TV & Kodi
on November 19, 2020
Posted by: BIGASN
from Olney, MD
Absolutely love this projector! The Epson Cinema 2250 is limited on inputs, but it’s a smart projector that’s bright, snappy, and runs on Android TV and Kodi which makes streaming a breeze. Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, all the major TV channel apps, a bunch of free TV and movie apps, built-in Chromecast, this projector has all my streaming needs covered with a clean and easy to use interface. It also has bluetooth connectivity that easily connects to bluetooth speakers and other peripherals which makes setup a breeze if you’re moving it around. We did an outdoor movie night on the backyard patio and the only cable we needed was for power. Setup and breakdown was so quick and easy, it actually makes regular and impromptu outdoor movie nights a practical event. As long as you have a good wifi signal, set up is basically: put up the screen, turn on the speaker and projector, tune the picture and you’re good to go! The picture quality is good, the colors are great, and it’s bright enough to use in a moderately lit room so you won’t have to turn all the lights off. I do notice a bit of a convergence issue if I’m looking at a picture test pattern, but it’s not noticeable watching video, especially from a proper distance. I think outside of the features, what makes this projector so likable is how everything seemingly works like it’s supposed to. The interface is snappy. HDMI input audio automatically gets forwarded to the bluetooth speaker. A usable built-in speaker. The genuine Epson replacement bulbs are even super affordable! If you’re looking for a high quality entry level streaming projector, I highly, highly recommend the Epson Cinema 2250.
PICTURE
I know 4K is the rage right now, but there’s more to picture quality than resolution and the 2250 puts out bright and excellent 1080P at huge sizes. I’m mainly using it indoors on a 92” white drop down screen and outdoors on a stretched 120” white screen. The projector is bright enough that ambient light is not an issue, and it seems to do well with motion playing PS4 and streaming football. It’s brighter than my older Epson 8350 and motion seems smoother with no apparent judder. Setup is really flexible as both rear feet and front riser can be incrementally adjusted, a slider controls horizontal keystone, and vertical keystoning is automatic. It also has vertical lens shifting which lets you lift and lower the image a good range. You can also adjust the convergence panel for fine tuning, but I’ve haven’t been able to get it all to line up perfectly. I did have the lens shifted vertically pretty far when I tried it so that could be the culprit. The picture is great without adjusting the convergence so I left the adjustment off. If there’s any tips I can give, it’s that you’ll get much more life out of your bulb if you switch the settings to ECO and high altitude mode. It’ll be slightly dimmer on ECO mode, but it's still bright and supposedly extends the life from 6,000 hours to 10,000 hours. However at currently only $60 for a genuine Epson replacement lamp, it might not be a big deal. That’s cheaper than the knock off eBay bulbs for my older projector.
STREAMING
The Cinema 2250 runs on Android TV which has all of the major video apps and a pretty clean user interface. The system is pretty flexible as well, so you can install a side loader and custom apps if you’re inclined. Might even be able to run PS4 remote play if you’re savvy. And Kodi, if you know what Kodi can do, it’s awesome having it on a projector without needing a box. Picture quality wise, as long as you have a good wifi signal, it looks great and HD streams catch up very quickly. The built-in Chromecast is smooth as well and even works with the start/pause of the remote. I don’t know what processor or how much RAM it has, but I do know it has a 4GB hard drive and navigating the menus is pretty snappy overall. It’s been an absolute joy streaming movies and sports on this projector and I think the Android TV operating system might be my favorite.

Slim pocket camera and wireless printer.
on October 26, 2020
Posted by: BIGASN
from Olney, MD
The Canon Ivy Cliq +2 is a fun little camera that’s more like a pocket photo printer. I’ve seen a few other competitors around, but I think this is probably the thinnest and most truly pocketable. It’s as slim as a deck of cards and while it kind of reminds me of the old instant print Polaroid days, this little camera is easier to carry and does so much more. As a camera, it has a unique layout in that there’s a traditional viewfinder with a fixed wide angle lens, but the front of the lens has a reflective coating around it which serves as a selfie viewfinder. It seemed kind of gimmicky at first, but the reflective coating actually does the job fairly well, even at night. Keep in mind, this is meant to be a casual, fun phone, so don’t expect anything remotely close to serious, high end digital photos. In fact, your smartphone might take better quality photos but that’s not a problem here, because the Ivy Cliq + 2 was made to sync up with your phone through Canon’s Mini Print app. Setup was a breeze on my Android phone and thankfully the app is straightforward and easy to use. There’s photo filters, frames, stickers, text, and other custom photo editing options to choose from, but the best part to me is how it can sync up with my phone’s camera feed, Facebook, Instagram, and Google Photos. This was huge to me, because I have a bunch of photos on those accounts that I wanted to edit and print out for friends. In fact, I’ve been using it as a wireless pocket printer more than anything and there’s a certain joy to turning my friends into printable meme stickers right in front of them. The prints come out as 2”x3” full color photo stickers with a peelable back that reveals the adhesive. Adhesion is pretty good, kind of reminds me of a bumper sticker, but not nearly as permanent. Print quality is ok, nothing studio quality, but clean enough overall and perfectly suitable for casual photo stickers. At about 50 cents each photo print, it’s on par with other cameras with built in printers, but this might have the most friendly form factor. The translucent white has a pinkish sheen, the fit and finish is good, and the body feels sturdy despite being all plastic. I like this camera a bit more than I thought I would, but I think that’s because I find using it as a pocket printer for my phone to be pretty fun. For the price point, I do wish the camera was a bit better, but it’s good for what it’s designed to do. This is casual photography at its most casual. If you’re in the market for a fun and truly pocketable camera with a built-in printer, or even just a wireless pocket photo printer, definitely give the Canon Ivy Cliq + 2 a look. Being truly pocketable is huge plus and it's a camera I don't mind giving to little kids to play with.

Microwave that bakes, broils, and kinda air fries.

The Panasonic 4 in 1 microwave is straight out of a movie. I didn’t know microwaves could also broil, convection bake, and air fry, but here we are. It’s geared as one appliance that can do it all, but while it does live up to that promise, I wouldn’t go throwing out my air fryer or toaster oven either. It does indeed broil and air fry with decent results, but it takes much longer than my dedicated air fryer and toaster oven. Broiling a 1/4 lb burger took about 18 minutes from frozen to medium well, which is a bit longer than I’m used to, however it came out pretty juicy with a legit broiled crust. The possibility of air frying excited me most, but also seemed to take the longest of all cooking methods. I have a couple dedicated air fryers that work much faster and for comparison sake, a hot dog typically takes 3 minutes in an air fryer, while it took about 15 minutes in this microwave on air fry mode. I could’ve done it much quicker in microwave mode (it recommends 2-3 min), but I wanted a quick baseline of what the air fry mode can do. That said, if you don’t have a dedicated air fryer or toaster oven, or are looking to save space (man cave, RV, guest house, he/she shed) then this Panasonic 4 in 1 microwave has you covered! It has some really neat features like staged cooking, “genius” reheating, and programmed cooking modes that are all pretty cool and work with good results once you get a feel for how it cooks. The setting to bake cookies works great, and I’ve had good results with the program to reheat crusty baguettes and bagels. The manual states that it should be plugged into an outlet with a 20amp breaker, but I’ve had no issues using the common 15amp outlet. I do wonder if that’s somehow holding the air fry and broil modes back, but I honestly have no idea. I will say it hasn’t tripped the breaker yet, so I’m fine with how it’s working for now. The only thing that’s taking some time getting used to is knowing what cooking accessories can be in and when. Thankfully there’s a chart that explains it and it’s really just no metal when it’s in microwave mode, but I have to get over my fears in the combo mode. In those modes, it bakes, broils, or air frys in conjunction with the microwave mode, so I feel iffy leaving in the enamel baking pan or wire rack during those modes, but they’re made for it and it works just fine. As long as you don’t put them in there during the pure microwave mode, I think it’s ok. Overall, I think of it as a really good microwave that can do a bunch of other things fairly well once you get familiar with how it cooks.
COOKING
Of all the modes I’ve tried, so far I find microwave and convection bake to be the best. It does a great job reheating things and I’ve had excellent results baking cookies and bread. The “genius” reheating is a cool concept in that you just put food in, press start, and it’ll automatically figure out how long to reheat it. However, it has varied results which is why it enables you to plus or minus the cooking time to your liking. The caveat here is that you’ll need to use it a bunch of times to figure out whether you even need to change the reheating time, but that’ll come in time. This microwave has a bit of a learning curve to use all of the features, so I wouldn’t recommend it for someone who’s not tech friendly unless they were restricted to just the microwave mode. That said, there’s also a child lock feature which I think does just that. There’s 2 broil settings (hi, low) which do ok, but take longer than I’m used to with other appliances. Same goes with the air fry mode, which I was most disappointed with because it takes forever and negates one of the best benefits of an air fryer. Outside of that, there’s a ton of programmed modes that seem to work well so far and I love how I can program cooking stages. The cooking stage thing is new to me, but being able to set different cooking methods and times in a specific order is really cool to me. You can set it to bake first, then broil, then air fry, all of which is fully programmable in terms of time and temp for each stage. There’s even an automatic cleaning program that I guess steam cleans the interior and makes wiping everything down a breeze. I need to experiment with the air fry mode more, but so far, I like it most as a microwave first, convection bake oven second, broiler third, and air fryer last.
DESIGN
It’s a medium sized microwave that can either be placed on the countertop or custom installed on the wall. It feels fairly well built with bright silver paint on the body and a brushed stainless steel finish for the front. The digital screen is easy to read and I appreciate that each numbered program scrolls text telling you what program it’s on. It’s a nice unit overall, though I wish the labels for the buttons were slightly larger or bolder. The light inside the microwave is plenty bright to clearly see the status of what you’re cooking and I haven’t encountered any software glitches. One thing to note is that the fan is pretty loud, louder than an older PS4 or Xbox 360 spinning a disc, so be ready for that. Also, it needs time to cool down the interior before it’ll let you do other functions, so keep that in mind as well. I rudely became aware of this after baking cookies and trying to microwave some chicken right after and was greeted with the “too hot” message. It’ll use the loud fan to cool down the interior quicker, but it’s another thing to be aware of if you’re using it as your main cooking appliance.

The Astro A20 v2 makes it easy to have 1 wireless headset for all gaming systems. What’s new with the version 2 update is that there’s no more wireless receiver that needs to be hooked up through an optical cable. Instead you simply plug in the USB receiver stick, push the button for either PS4 or PC mode, and that’s it you’re connected! No cables or anything to mess with, it makes going back and forth between my PS4 and PC super easy. If you want one that works with the Xbox One or even the next gen systems, all you need is to get another USB receiver for that platform and it should be a simple plug and play setup. It’s great being able to have 1 headset for all systems and saves a bunch of money at that. I believe additional USB receivers are only $20, so not a bank breaker at all if you need another. What's also great about having a plug and play USB receiver for each platform is that it allows the A20 to truly be wireless. No wires needed to connect the headset to the controller for chat audio or anything.
SOUND
As for the sound, there’s 3 preset EQ settings to choose from, however I couldn’t find anything that said which is which. Through a lot of testing, I think the 1st is Astro (gaming oriented), 2nd amplifies mids and highs, and 3rd amplifies the bass. You’ll know which setting you’re on by the little audible pulses after changing each EQ preset. Unlike the older A20, I wasn’t able to connect it to the Astro Command Center, so I don’t know if there’s a way to customize the EQ settings at all, but the website gives the impression that it should connect. I’ll have to try again later, but I already like the Astro setting for gaming and I find the 3rd EQ setting to be good for movies. This is my first Astro headset, but I know they’re renowned for their gaming sound quality and I can see why. With the Astro EQ setting, you can hear the details crisp and clear with good left and right imaging. On the initial setup on my PS4, there was a weird audible echo, but then I noticed I needed to do a system update. I don’t know if that update was needed before plugging the A20 USB receiver in, but after running the update the echo was gone and the audio was on point. I had no such issues connecting to my Windows10 PC, that was pretty much just plug and play from the start.
DESIGN
The ear cushions are super soft and covered in cloth for breathability. They’re a bit large too so they should easily accommodate even the biggest ears without issue and are truly comfortable even after hours of wearing them. I like how the microphone stays attached and automatically mutes when you flip it up. I have a bunch of other headsets with detachable mics that I’m always worried about losing when I want the mic out of the way, so this is a bit of a revelation for me. The mic sound quality is good, it’s clear, but kind of run of the mill. No voice filters or masking, but as long as your team can hear you loud and clear that’s all that really matters. Aesthetically, the white and blue colorway has a fun look and is specific for the PS4 bundle, but if you prefer the darker one for the Xbox you can use that too. The only difference is the wireless USB receiver, so again, it’s great not being stuck to one gaming platform. Build quality wise it’s mostly plastic, but on par with most gaming headsets. At this price point, I was honestly expecting something a bit more substantial, but I guess that’s what the A50 is for.
OVERALL
If you’re looking for 1 headset to use for multiple gaming systems, definitely give the Astro A20 v2 a look. PS4, PC, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X, the new A20 will have you covered. The new USB receiver makes setup a breeze and while it’s not geared for music, the audio is excellent for gaming.
