Small, easy to wear, app not great

Review for Sony - Completely in Canal Self-fitting OTC Hearing Aid - Black. I was really looking forward to the new regulations that made over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids a reality. The Sony name brand was also a big draw. These hearing aids are SO tiny; they almost completely disappear into your ear canal. No hanging wires, nothing behind your ear. Sounds great, in theory, but for many seniors like me with mild (or worse) arthritis, they are almost too tiny. They can be difficult to hold and even more so to open the battery compartment or change the batteries. They are not rechargeable, which by itself didn’t bother me. Most rechargeable hearing aids cannot yet make it through an entire day. The size 10 batteries can last up to a week, if you turn off the aids when not in use by opening the battery compartment. (There is no on/off switch.) If you consider the $2000-$4000 cost saving over traditional hearing aids, you can buy a lot of these little batteries! So size of the aids and changing batteries aside, the use of these aids when set up is good, but not great. The amplification they provide is pretty easy to fine tune after the initial setup. And that’s the sticking point for me - the setup. The app provided by Sony is meant to help you configure the aids to your unique needs. In order to replace the services of a trained audiologist, it has to be robust, accurate, and straightforward for a wide audience - admittedly, a big lift! In many ways, the app tries to be these things, but is basically not ready for prime time yet, in my opinion. I tried more than five times to get the initial setup to pair and analyze my hearing. Despite requiring a Bluetooth connection, the app prompts you to turn it off! When I realized I had to ignore this, I had much better luck, but still took four more times to successfully set up the aids. Each time the setup failed, I had to start over from the beginning. I’ve been in Tech my whole life and have worked with hearing-impaired people, so I went into this knowing more than an average user might. I think that the app could be dramatically improved in three ways: strip out the legalese (save it for the print doc), make the step-by-step setup procedure more succinct, and allow setup to continue more easily when there are problems - don’t force the user to return to square one. Finally, in fairness, the hearings aids themselves are very well made, are easy to custom fit (with four different sized silicone tips), are very comfortable to wear, and produce good sound for mild to moderate hearing loss.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Review for Airthings - View Radon Battery Wi-Fi Smart Radon/Humidity/Temperature Sensor - Matte White. This unit is easy to set up and easy to read. I know we had a radon test when we bought our house more than 25 years ago, so I was happy to find out that it was still not a problem by using this sensor. Living in New England, it’s easy to find houses built on ledge, with radon a real issue in need of mitigation. The EPA recommends mitigation when your radon levels exceed 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter), so it was nice to see that we were well below that. The Airthings app makes it easy to configure the display of the sensor. You can set it to display radon levels, but unless that’s an ongoing concerns for you - perhaps you want to monitor mitigation actions - I found that the unit can be set to display temperature and humidity levels - a useful day-to-day metric. When you wave your hand in front of the sensor a red, yellow, or green LED lets you know about overall air quality. The unit comes with simple setup instructions and can stand on a table or be hung on a wall with convenient, easy-to-remove Command adhesive pads.

The Life Note 3i earbuds are very comfortable and provide excellent music reproduction. The Soundcore app makes it easy to adjust the equalization settings. You can choose from a number of presets like electronic, pop, rock, etc. or you can create your own custom equalization settings and name them. I like that the buds have real buttons on them to click once or twice or to hold for achieving different functions. Most buds have their touch functions built in, but the Life Note buds let you customize these functions. This makes it easy to match the functions on other buds you may have and have grown use to, or just set them the way that feels more natural to you. For example, the buds are preset to take one click for volume up (on the right) or one click for volume down (on the left) whereas a double click is used to play or pause. This is fine if you like these settings, but I like to reverse them so that play and pause is a single click. The fit for the buds are customizable with three sizes of silicone ear cups that make them fit very nicely and help them to stay in your ears. It’s easy to toggle the noise cancelling function on or off or you can use the the app to choose transparency mode if you want to listen to tunes and still have some awareness of your surroundings.

Review for Shark Ion RV 763.
I really like the price point for the Shark Ion RV 763. It’s not as sophisticated as the laser-guided models, but instead, uses the “gently bump into things and change course” cleaning method. This gives it something of a pinball trajectory. I also own a Shark model that uses lasers and runs up and down in a seemingly more organized “lawn mowing” pattern. I did a side-by-side comparison by using my older Shark one time and then the new Ion model another time. Although the more “orderly” robot vac might seem more efficient, the new Ion picked up just as much dust as it’s laser-guided sibling. The dustbin on the Ion has been redesigned to make it easier to empty and clean. The filter placement is identical and still easy to remove, but the plastic mesh screen is now 100% visible and easy to brush clean when you open the clamshell dust compartment to empty it. A nice improvement! Another change, that I think is an improvement, is the Ion vac docks itself by “backing into” the dock (dustbin first). It may not make a big difference, but this means the next time the vac launches, it just heads out of the dock to get to work. it’s sort of like backing into a parking spot — it takes a little more effort, but it’s easy to head out when you leave

I already have the full-size version of this keyboard for my desktop, but I thought this one would be better for use with my laptop and iPad. I was right! The easy touch typing interface is great for writers, like me, who want a sufficient response from the keyboard when typing, but hate the typical “clackiness” of mechanical keyboards. The keys have a soft press and response with practically perfect touch feedback. When I’m at my desktop, I appreciate the extended keyboard, but when I’m traveling or just using my laptop or iPad in another room, this keyboard is ideal to bring along. The backlit keys are excellent in low light and the “Smart Illumination” works as soon as your hands approach the keyboard. The battery is designed to last for more than two weeks with backlighting on or up to 10 months with it switched off! When you need to, it’s very easy to recharge with the included three foot USB-C to USB-C cable. The brushed aluminum base and light gray plastic keys have a classic look. Since you can pair the keyboard with up to three devices, I can use this with my laptop and my iPad and still have a spare share for another device, like my wife’s iPad. Since the keyboard is designed specifically for use on a Mac or iPad, the Alt and Windows keys, often found on hybrid keyboards are absent, while the Option and Command keys are present and familiar, meaning a Mac lover like me doesn’t have to stop and hunt for them. Programmable function keys and nice touches like a blinking caps lock key make this small keyboard a big hit for me!

Small, fast, and affordable

I Have always been a fan of BestBuy’s Insignia products. I’ve never owned one in which I was disappointed. They’re across-the-board high quality and affordable. This charger is a great example. It’s compact — in fact, surprisingly smaller than charger blocks that are not as powerful. It comes complete with a folding plug that makes it super easy to pop in your pocket or bag. The dual ports are both quick-charging USB-C, allowing me to charge another device at the same time. With 35 watts of power, it charged my iPhone 13 Mini in record time. You can plug in your iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, even your MacBook! I really like it for travel, because it’s so small and you don’t have to take separate chargers for each device. Although it’s recommended for Apple devices, it will happily work with any USB-C products. With the right cables, it could power a host of other devices as well. In fact, the only drawback I can see for this charger is that it doesn’t come with any cables. Although it seems that everything is moving toward USB-C as a standard, it’d be great to include a USB-C to Lightening cable - just saying!

Review for Anker - 633 MagGo Portable Magnetic 7.5W 10k mAh Battery with Stand for iPhone 12 & 13 MagSafe Compatible Devices.
I’ll say it upfront. I like every Anker product I’ve ever encountered. That said, I didn’t know that wireless charging was such a game changer. I have an iPhone 13 Mini and love it for its small size. Although the battery life is great, it’s been so nice to carry this MagSafe charger with me on long days.
The magnet is very strong and holds the phone securely — even with a MagSafe case. Charging the battery with the USB-C cable is fast and easy. There is also a USB-A for power out to other devices. Four small LEDs show the charging level in 25% increments. As with all Anker devices I’ve seen, this one is well designed and nicely made. It’s easy to grip, the button and indicators are well placed and the stand that lets you prop up your phone (in landscape or portrait mode) is thin, light, and strong. I’m especially impressed with the stand’s hinge, which is quality metal, not a more typical, flimsy plastic one so often seen. Although wireless charging is slower (it took two hours to charge my 13 Mini from 40% to 90%), it’s so convenient, I mostly don’t even notice! As an added benefit, I can use the Anker 633 to charge my watch and earbuds on the go.

I’ve found these earbuds are my favorite for exercise. They are sweatproof and can stand up to a little bad weather. Note: they are not waterproof - not built for the pool or the shower! They fit snuggly in your ear for really impressive sound with the option of three tip sizes, but also come with three additional “open air” tips for use when you want more awareness of your surroundings.
Pairing the buds with your device via Bluetooth is straightforward and fast. Once paired, the buds power up and reconnect quickly when you take them out of the case. Replacing them in the case turns them off.
I like the simple interface and built-in features; the single taps for most common commands make answering a call or playing/pausing a tune quick and easy. The buds are rated for eight hours of use on a charge and when the case is fully charged, it can provide an additional 22 hours of usage — a whopping 30 hours total!
I do have to say, the case for these buds is slightly larger than similar buds, but I actually like the fact that this allows the buds to go into the case with the left one on the left side and the right one on the right side. Seems silly, but so many of the smaller cases make you swap them left to right and then remember to “unswap” them when you take them out. I recently replaced our old, and increasingly noisy garbage disposal with this new Frigidaire model. What a difference! The install was pretty easy if you have moderate plumbing skills. In my case, I’m probably not at the moderate level, but my plumbing is all PVC, not copper, as is increasingly popular, so I consider it less like plumbing and more like “arts and crafts.”
The best part is, if you’re replacing an existing disposal with a three-point mount, you don’t have to replace the drain hardware. If you don’t have a three-point mount or any disposal at all, you will need some plumber’s putty, but all of the rest of the drain hardware is included.
Be sure to check your existing drain pipes for compatibility to avoid multiple trips to the hardware store while suspending the use of your sink. This unit comes with a 90º elbow which may or may not be all you need to finish the install. Finally, if you are connecting your dishwater drain to the disposal, be sure to knock out the insert inside of the dishwasher drain pipe. If all of this sounds like too much, you may want to have the unit installed by a plumber.
The disposal itself is much more compact than the model it replaced and yet is as powerful and quieter. When you first start it, the unit makes a moderately loud “clunk” sound as the grinders engage. This is normal, but a little startling the first few times.
Perhaps the most innovative feature is the “Silver Guard” — a ring of powerful magnets that mount under the sink around the collar of the unit and catch utensils, bottle caps, or other magnetic items so that they don’t fall into the disposal.

JLab - Go Air Sport True Wireless Earbuds - Yellow
These buds are great for their price point. They are light and easy to wear; fitting snuggly for running or other exercise. They are sweat and water resistant too, but not waterproof. It’s also important to make sure they are dry when you put them back in their case. Speaking of which, the case is nicely designed - easy to pick up, and fits nicely in your hand or pocket. Oddly, they are described as “yellow,” but clearly are a cooler greenish yellow hue as they appear in photos.
The built-in USB-A charging cable is nice; it can be plugged in either way, unlike traditional USB-A plugs. It fits into the back of the case so you never lose it, but as a result, is quite short (2”!) This makes it great for plugging into a laptop for recharging, but a bit troublesome if you’re using a wall socket. I think the convenience of “always there” tops “really short.” Finally, with the 8 hour charge in each bud and additional charging of 24 hours from the case, you just don’t need to plug them in to charge very often!
As to the sound quality - these buds allow for three equalization settings: balanced, bass boost, and “Jlab Signature” - providing “amplified vocals and bass.” After testing all three with music and voice, I like the last setting best, but your mileage may vary. Overall, these buds are great for what they do: providing an affordable, snug, exercise-friendly, listening experience. They are great for listening to voice, podcasts, etc., but just don’t provide a rich music quality. That said, they are affordable and comfortable, with many well-designed features.

Yes. It even comes with a phone cord. This is probably great for offices that still fax and have a dedicated line, but many homes don't have landlines any more.
