Review for
360 Electrical - Revolve45, 4 Rotating Outlets/2 USB-A and 1 USB-C 1080 Joules Surge Protector
This was the perfect answer for my WiFi extender. I needed a better solution that would give me more flexibility with multiple plugs, odd-shaped power sources - all without wasting outlets. Each of the outlets can rotate to any orientation.
I like that it has two USB-A and one USB-C connection, too. It can provide a mix of power up to 45 watts - plenty for phones, tablets, game systems, even laptops!
Surge protection means I don’t have to worry about power spikes that could damage any and all of these devices.
With its center screw, it was a one minute install to replace the outlet cover screw and fasten the unit to the wall. This means that pulling out plugs will not pull the unit off the wall.
Finally, I was glad to see the unit was packaged well and safely to avoid damage, but that ALL of the packaging materials were made from recyclable paper and cardboard. I wish more manufacturers would pay attention to these things and stop using so much plastic and styrofoam.

SANUS Elite - Adjustable-Height Speaker Stands for Sonos Era 100 and 300 Speakers (Pair) - Black
These speaker stands are designed to be used with either a pair of Sonos Era 300 or the smaller Era 100 speakers and come with custom hardware that lets you set them up with either type. I have the larger (and heavier) Era 300, so I was concerned about these stands being robust enough to both support the speakers and to have a base that was hefty enough to prevent toppling. Sanus scores A+ on both counts.
Out of the box, it’s clear that these are top quality in material and workmanship. The instructions are well-illustrated and simple to follow, with specific set up instructions for each speaker type. It took me about five minutes to assemble each stand. It’s important to follow the first step carefully, which shows you how to feed the cables through the post prior to attaching it to the base. Failing to do this will mean disassembling and reassembling unnecessarily.
Previously, I had these speakers on shelves, which look nice, but are not the optimal setup since the speakers need a certain amount of space around and behind them. These Sanus stands let me position the speakers for better stereo separation and the best sound.
I’m looking forward to linking them with a new Sonos sound bar in the future for some top-notch surround sound!

Western Digital WD_Black 2TB SN850P Internal SSD for PS5
This NVMe is designed specifically to work in my PS5 and it does a great job! Its built-in heat synch means I don't have to worry about its blazing speed causing a real blaze or messing up the system’s performance.
Installation was very easy. After disconnecting the system from power, I carefully popped off the cover. (I checked out a YouTube video for this part, because I was afraid of breaking the cover. It’s a little tricky to open, so it helped to know this in advance.) One screw held the cover over my existing (smaller) memory SSD. I unscrewed the retaining screw (hang onto it!) and noted the hole that would be used for the new memory. The NVMe is easy to insert at a slight angle and then screw down to the board. From there, I reattached the memory card’s cover and screw, and popped the cover back on the PS5. It took me all of five minutes!
After powering up my PS5, it asked me if I wanted to format the new drive, which was quick and easy.
After I downloaded my existing games, I was very pleased to see that loading and performance was amazingly fast!
I now have four times the capacity for games, without having to worry about offloading older ones to fit new games. It’s also great to have all my PS4 and PS5 games in one place.

Bissell does it again. This rug and upholstery cleaner is designed for cleaning up pet accidents. Since our senior dog was diagnosed with a heart condition, the medication she’s on makes her more prone to accidents. She always seems to choose the carpet over the bare floor!
The cleaner has three modes for this: a steam pretreatment, a steam and liquid thorough cleaning, and a quick mode for regular cleaning. The cleaner can use any of the Bissell floor cleaning products designed for pets, carpets, and wood or tile floors.
The device itself is large, which makes it easy to cover wide swaths. The clean water tank is also hefty, which means less refilling, but adds to the unit’s weight. There is a double row of stiff brushes that do a great job cleaning up a mess or just to lift regular dirt. After cleaning, it’s easy to dump the dirty water tank and rinse off the roller cover (which, I note happily is very ruggedly made!) I wish I had gotten the model that has a drain tray. This lets you sit the entire unit in a splash resistant tray when you’ve finished cleaning. The device can drip dirty water otherwise. I found it works to place it on an old towel to prevent drips.
There are two attachments for use with the included hose that let you clean messes on upholstery. It’s important to note that the attachments do not use the steam feature, but work very well.
My unit did come with two samples of cleaning solution: one for deep cleaning carpets and another billed as a “urine eliminator.” The last one is good to have on hand, but I’m hoping I don’t need it!

Samsung - 34" ViewFinity S50GC Ultra-WQHD 100Hz AMD FreeSync Monitor with HDR10 (DisplayPort, HDMI)
I currently have a two-monitor setup. I got this monitor because I do video production and thought it would be wonderful to have a display large enough to see all of my windows in one place. Color and sharpness were also critically important. For the most part, I was disappointed with this monitor.
But let me start with the positives: this monitor is easy to assemble and sturdy despite its lightness. It has a very narrow bezel, so you get A LOT of screen real estate. (Although, the actual pixels do not go up to the bezel.) Even though it doesn’t swivel, it has a convenient tilt feature. A rubber cable management system conveniently lets you secure up to two display cables. (Although adding the power cable and webcam cable made using it difficult.)
Some of my concerns are with the viewability on the left and right edges of the display. About 3-4” of each side of the monitor are difficult to see and the color is washed out. If you consider these areas as unusable, you’re pretty much back to a standard-sized monitor!
Finally, some of this monitor’s problems can be mitigated by adjusting the default settings. In its favor, the monitor has a sensor that detects lighting levels in the room and automatically adjusts the brightness. The energy saving feature uses a “dimmer by default” setting that is not really optimum; I liked the color and contrast better at a brighter setting. Typically, you’d expect the HDR setting to give you better overall performance; I found the opposite. Grays and blacks got less distinct and the overall sharpness declined with the HDR setting on. Also, I found using the “dynamic contrast” setting (under “picture mode”) improved both the contrast and the color rendition. The PBP (picture by picture) feature is intended to let you use two sources side by side - your home computer and your work computer, for example. Sadly, switching between two sources caused random aspect ratio problems that could be fixed by adjusting the settings in the menu, but obviated the convenience of this feature.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

HP - Hearing PRO Self-Fitting OTC Hearing Aids
This is my second shot at over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids. I’m really liking them better than the smaller, in-the-ear type. They look more like ear buds for listening to music, but more importantly, for someone with arthritis, they’re much easier to pick up and insert into your ear.
I do not have to turn them on — that happens automatically when I take them out of the case. I do not have to remove or insert tiny batteries — they are rechargeable. They are very easy to hold and insert in my ears.
They come with silicone AND compressing foam tips in three sizes, so it was easy to custom fit them to my ears and preferences. The instructions mention that you may need to use different sizes for each ear and that’s exactly what I found. The hearing aids come fitted with the medium silicone tips, which are a great start. Once I set them up, I noticed whistling in my left ear which immediately stopped when I swapped the medium for a large tip.
I thought the silicone tips were very comfortable, but then I tried the foam ones and found they were even better. They’re not open-cell foam, but rather, the closed-cell foam like you find in hearing protection ear plugs. They compress easily when you insert them and then gently expand a bit to make a good seal while still being very comfortable.
I downloaded the HP Hearing app and found it straightforward and easy to use. Pairing with Bluetooth was quick, and the hearing test that customized the hearing aids for me took about ten minutes. I was impressed with the simple interface and controls.
After I completed the test, which should certainly be done somewhere quiet, I was able to set the “World Volume” up or down from normal, based on the situation. I was pleasantly surprised to find that when I turned up the volume, there was no feedback and I could hear a clock ticking in the other room! I can also change to “Focus” mode, which helps with face-to-face conversation.
Since the aids use Bluetooth, I can use any streaming services that support that to listen to music, TV, or to take phone calls. I think this is one of the great strengths of these aids! If you have a mild or moderate hearing loss, understanding someone on the phone can be difficult. Getting phone reception through the hearing aids is a game changer for me.
My next favorite feature is that they’re rechargeable: no fussing with batteries, they last up to 8 hours on a charge, and putting them back in the case lets you get a bonus recharge on the go. The case is easy to pick up and put in your pocket or purse.

Small Form Factor, big features!

Canon - PIXMA MegaTank G3270 Wireless All-In-One SuperTank Inkjet Printer - Black
Like many people these days, my printing habits have changed dramatically. I no longer print every day. I don’t print as many copies of things as I used to do. And yet this printer is everything I need!
It’s easy to print from my computer, my tablet, and my phone.
It’s got a great compact footprint. It’s easy to use as a copier with a very readable, illuminated LCD screen. And the scanner lets me make both printed copies and PDF versions of important documents to save or send online.
But my single, most favorite feature is the large tanks of ink that make two of my biggest printing headaches a thing of the past. When I need to print in high volume - not a frequent demand, but it does happen - I don’t have to worry about burning through little, costly ink cartridges. I can print up to 6000 pages in black and white and up to 7700 pages in color. My other resolved headache is almost the opposite extreme. When I haven’t printed in a few weeks (or sometimes longer) this printer picks up right where I left off. No dried up or clogged cartridges! Full disclosure, the first time printing after a “dry spell” takes a few seconds as the printer primes itself again, but I’ve never had a page fail to print, or worse, print partially or in less than full color.
The rear paper tray holds up to 100 sheets; far more than many printers. So running out of paper, mid-job is also mostly a thing of the past.
I’ve had great success printing on media other than standard paper, as well. Labels come out sharp and clear, and I was floored by the quality of photos printed on specialized photo paper.
In terms of cost savings for ink, there’s almost no comparison! New bottles of black, and separate bottles for color (cyan, magenta, and yellow) added up, cost about the same as one standard printer cartridge, but will probably last me 10 times longer. I’m happy for the cost savings and equally happy for so much less waste!

These noise canceling headphones are a pleasure to wear. They are comfortable and lightweight with a nice seal to keep out the world - if you want to. That is, the noise canceling feature works extremely well, but also has an “ambiant sound” setting that allows you to hear what’s going on around you. Great for commuting, this feature lets you catch the train announcements and keeps you aware of your surroundings while walking.
The controls are simple to use, with a single power button on the left side and noise control and volume and play/stop on the right. If you download the Sony app (and you should!) you get more precise controls, like an equalizer that you can tailor to your listening preferences, or a slate of equalizer settings for different types of music or voice. You can even even power down the headphones using the app.
The headphones allow the use of multiple voice services, including Siri, Alexa, Hey Google, and others. Taking a phone call is easy and works well with the “beam forming mic” that picks up sounds coming from your mouth instead of your entire environment.
Remarkably, the headset is rated to last 35 hours on a charge. I haven’t played them that long yet, but after many hours of use, the voice prompt (accessed by touching the power button while on) stills says “battery fully charged!” Quick charging gives you an hour of use after only three minutes!
How’s the sound? Really nice! Crisp treble and voice with excellent bass response not possible with other kinds of headsets like earbuds.

Review for Sonos Era 300 Bluetooth Speaker
Full disclosure, I already have a Sonos Move and a Sonos Roam speaker, so I have to say, I’m already a fan.
But the Sonos Era 300 is, indeed, an amazing leap forward for audio tech. I was young when Science Fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke penned his third law: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” The Sonos Era 300 is both sufficiently advanced AND magical.
Their implementation of Dolby Atmos Music for spatial audio took my breath away. If you’ve never heard it, Atmos music can recreate the studio or concert sound in the space where you’re listening. You can tell where the musicians and vocalists are positioned. In fact if you close your eyes, you can imagine them placed around your living room! Sounds have “height” and can move around you and even fly over your head. Ok, I’m dating myself here, but this reminded me of being a child and hearing stereo (in over-the-ear) headphones for the first time compared to a mono version of a record. The difference is truly night and day.
Beside Dolby Atmos, the Sonos Era offers at least two other extraordinary features: in their own words, “bewilderingly easy to set up,” and Trueplay, that uses the speaker’s internal microphone in combination with your phone’s mic to tune the speaker to the acoustics of your room.
First, setup is super simple. Because this is a smart speaker, all you need to do is to download and run the Sonos App. The app finds your new speaker, asks you for your preferred WiFi connection, and then does everything else for you. Once set up, you can fine tune the Era 300 with Trueplay. Quick Tuning takes just a minute and is well suited for smaller rooms, but having my Era 300 in a large room, I opted for the Advanced Tuning. As the speaker chirps, you walk around the room with your phone, while waving it around. This is what made me think of the Clarke quote above; I could just as easily imagine waving burning sage using the same motions!
This is hefty speaker, weighing in at almost 10 pounds, and the bass created by it is equally hefty. I’m not there (yet), but I’ve read that an optimal home theater setup is the Sonos Arc sound bar coupled with two Era 300 speakers for a truly surround sound experience. More magic awaits!

Hyper - DUO PRO 7-in-2 USB-C Hub MacBook 2016 through 2022 MacBook Pro/MacBook Air.
I wanted to like the Hyper 7-in-2 just for its compact, space-efficient design. My older (2018) MacBook Pro never seems to have enough ports for all the widgets I want to plug into it, so this seemed like a good idea. It uses up two of the ports (hence the seven in two) together with a magnet to hold the hub to the MacBook. This is my first problem. The magnet is strong but seemingly not strong enough. It’s very easy to lose the connection with the MacBook if you wiggle any of the cables connected to the hub. Sometimes it literally falls off the laptop with very little effort, other times it just wiggles loose enough to lose your connections without being obviously disconnected. That said, the ports themselves are actually pretty great! I really like being able to use wired Ethernet when I’m working from home; it’s much faster and more dependable than WiFi. The port has a little pop up hinge that makes connecting and disconnecting the Ethernet cable super fast and easy. The USB-C port is great for charging my phone. Although I know they fallen from favor, I really prefer using my wired over-the-ear headphones when I’m working from home. I don’t have to worry about charging them and the connection is always good, so the 3.5 mm combo jack works great for me. Finally, the full-size HDMI port makes it easy to connect my extra monitor. I may play around with the connection of the hub a bit more to see if I can find a way to make it more dependable, but I had to ding the hub one star for this.

Yes. It even comes with a phone cord. This is probably great for offices that still fax and have a dedicated line, but many homes don't have landlines any more.

Do any of the Canon MegaTank All-in-One Printers offer the capability of printing on printable CD/DVD?
The 4210 does NOT provide this capability.
