Great indoor grill

The DeLonghi Livenza Grill is a great choice if you are looking for an indoor grill. The grill plates are interchangeable and it includes searing plates and a set of griddle plates. The plates are non-stick and clean fairly easily. I have cooked chicken breasts and some burgers and have been very pleased with the performance. The dials rotate to adjust the temperature in Fahrenheit. For me, the plastic dials don’t turn smoothly and feel slightly cheap on what otherwise looks to be a high end appliance. The grill displays on screen what temperature each side is set to and if the plates have reached optimal operating temperature. I like how the hinge opens up allowing you to cook on two independently temperature controlled surfaces. You can even have different plates on each side to further expand the cooking versatility. The plates are heavy duty and maintain temperature during cooking. A trade off is the plates take much longer to cool relative to other electric grills I have owned. There is a timer feature as well, though I tend to use Alexa or a timer on my phone to keep track of cooking time. DeLonghi also offers a companion app that can be referenced to determine temperature, plates, and cook time; though it isn't required to operate. The size of the grill is a strength and a negative in the same stroke. I like having the surface area to cook multiple chicken breasts, but the large size also makes the unit bulky and heavy. Aesthetically, it is nice enough to be left out from time to time, but I would prefer to have an item like this stored in the cabinet which is difficult to do due to size. Overall, I am happy with the unit and recommend the Livenza to someone who wants a versatile, high performing indoor grill.

Big sound, small package

The Polk Magnifi mini soundbar provides the audio experience of a larger system in a small, discrete package. This system is perfect for someone who doesn’t have the room or doesn’t want a full home theater setup. Speaking of setup, I had the Polk soundbar unboxed and working in 15 minutes thanks to the simple setup and clear instructions provided (granted it is just a soundbar). When I initially started using the mini I felt it was lacking depth. I turned the bass up to compensate, but I still feel the speaker is missing a little mid-range. The wireless sub is a nice feature, but is also found on other soundbars. I can live with the mids of this device since it excels in being less obtrusive compared to my previous system. The speaker can be interfaced via HDMI, aux, optical, bluetooth, and wireless via Google cast. The included remote offers quick access between 3 audio profiles and the various inputs. I found myself sticking with the movie profile and adjusted the bass and voice levels (lacks frequency control) to meet my preference. One complaint is the volume light indicators only display 4 levels, making it difficult to tell what volume the speaker is at visually. Of course, if you have the speaker connected via HDMI ARC this isn’t an issue, but I am using an optical audio cable with my current setup. Also, I don’t think this speaker would be good for a large room or to replace a more traditional home theater setup. If you are looking to improve the built-in audio of your TV or if interested in a discrete minimalist setup, Polk Audio Magnifi mini is a great buy.

Affordable High Quality Hair Dryer

I don’t blow dry my hair very often, but when I used the Panasonic Nanoe I felt it was one of the nicer hair dryers I have tried. My better half was able to provide more feedback on how it compares to other hair dryers she has used. First, the blow dryer exceeded her expectations and seems to be high quality. It is very light weight, quiet, and powerful. She feels her hair is healthier after use, whereas when using her old hair dryer it always felt as though it was damaging to her rather fine hair.
It provides 2 speeds and 3 heat settings which is great, but even the highest setting doesn't scorch her hand as her old one did and is way more efficient in drying. It also includes 3 attachments that you can use for faster, more concentrated drying or different desired effects.

Silent Trimming

This trimmer is a great addition to my hair grooming arsenal! The first thing I noticed about it was how quiet the trimmer was. My shaver and clippers sound like chainsaws compared to this silent machine. In addition to the lack of noise, there is very little vibration. The length is easily adjusted with a dial and stays on the setting throughout use. It cuts as well as my clippers, and the length guard seems to guide your facial hair properly so you don’t have an uneven cut. Being able to use it wet is nice, but not a necessity for me. My only complaints are with the charger. First, the indicator light is always on when the trimmer is connected, so it is impossible to tell if the unit is fully charged or charging. The charger is designed for the trimmer to sit on top of the charger which is protruding out of an outlet. This normally wouldn’t be an issue, but the trimmer clips in place so it doesn’t fall off, making it difficult to attach/remove the trimmer from its charging base without it slipping out of the outlet. Besides the minor annoyance with the charger I still recommend it to someone in the market for a new trimmer.

AC1900 Router with Parental Controls

The Amped ALLY router is an AC1900 system with a companion wireless extender. The wireless signal of the primary router is good, comparable to my current AC1900 router I had prior to this. Once I connected the extender, there was a noticeable increase in signal strength in the bedrooms furthest away. From what I can tell the extender does not have dedicated wireless backhaul nor does it support ethernet uplink to main router. It also isn’t a mesh point, strictly a wireless extender. Despite the disappointing lack of modern features, the extender does it’s job and extended the network in my home without any perceivable added latency. The only negative I noticed with regard to the extender was client roaming was hit or miss. Often I would notice my phone had poor signal in my living room due to it still being connected to the extender in another part of the house.
The initial setup was done with the ALLY app via my iPhone. I had one minor issue with a server error during setup, but they were related to the phone not connecting to the new wireless network after initial setup. An obvious fix, but the app neglected to inform the user that they needed to connect to the newly created network that the app just prompted you to create. Again, not an issue for most, but I could see where a novice could get frustrated or confused. Once up and running, you can dig into the parental controls of the system. In order to enable content filtering, you must create users and add devices to users. It would be nice if there was a network wide ruleset, rather then needing to assign every device to a user. I liked the curfew options and the activity features, though the activity reports are generic and just a list of sites blocked and at what time. I was intrigued by the AVG protection promoted with the device, but it is nothing more than additional content filtering. Essentially, the device compares the website URL with a blacklist and blocks it if it is on a list of malicious hosts. Unfortunately, this is easily circumvented and not very effective. It would have been nice if the device was doing some sort of AV scanning and IPS, but I realize that is beyond the scope of most SOHO routers.
Overall, the ALLY system performed as good as my existing router, but offered some great parental features. I recommend this for non-techie families trying to keep their children safe online and reinforce set times to use their devices.

Great addition to Bose Revolve

The charging cradle makes charging the Bose Revolve Speaker a breeze. I would have preferred the cradle be included with the speaker, regardless it is a nice accessory for the speaker. The only negative, which isn't an issue for me, is that the speaker must be oriented properly to sit on the cradle. Otherwise, the cradle charges the speaker and makes it far more convenient to grab the speaker and move it when desired.

Big sound out of a small speaker

When I initially used the Bose Revolve+, I felt it was missing the mid-range of my other bluetooth speaker and was tuned for more highs. As I switched between speakers I found myself preferring the sound of the Bose over my other name brand speaker. I enjoyed not only the crisp sound, but also was impressed with the range of the speaker. It played everything well and never seemed distorted, even when using it outdoors with the volume increased. Speaking of outdoor use, this thing rocks! I only had the volume up 3/4 and it was loud enough to fill the entire backyard with music. Now, as far as the physical design, I at first thought it looked understated and didn't appear as high end as I expected. Originally, I did not care for the corded handle as I thought it detracted from the design, but after using the Bose Revolve+ I found myself hanging the speaker by the handle in convenient places. The speaker has basic controls on the top (volume, power, bluetooth, etc) analog input and micro USB on back. The bottom of the speaker features a 1/4-20 mount and contacts for the charging base, which is awesome! Battery life is also very good, I used it on and off over the weekend and it didn't require recharging, which was nice. The Bose Revolve+ is a phenomenal bluetooth speaker that is very versatile and can be enjoyed thoroughly in a variety of places.

Powerful cordless vacuum with limitations

I had high expectations for this Dyson V7 Motorhead, but was only really impressed by its lightweight handling and sleek, high end design. It did not meet my expectations on cleaning capabilities. It does clearly state on their website that on the max setting you only will be able to use it for 6 minutes and 30 minutes on normal setting. For that amount of time this can only really be used for spot cleaning, which it does a great job, but not for deep or extended cleaning. The hygienic ejector bin did a good job of removing all debris, including hair from the dust bin. I also liked the ease of swapping attachments via the quick release buttons. The motorhead attachment works great on tile, hardwood, or low pile carpet. On rugs or thick carpet the head would stop spinning often. Overall, the V7 Motorhead is great for spot cleaning or if you have medium size area of tile or hardwood floors to clean. It won't replace your vacuum but it is great tool to supplement your larger, corded vacuum.

Best Coffee Maker Ever

Ninja knocked it out of the park with this coffee maker! I have used a Keurig for years and have become accustom to the ease of use. However, I didn't realize I was sacrificing quality for convenience. Enter the Ninja Coffee Bar. The Ninja uses traditional ground coffee instead of pods or k-cups, but it isn't an ordinary coffee maker. The Auto-IQ feature adjusts brew time, temperature, and flow of the water to make every coffee beverage imaginable. My first drink was a flat white with cheap coffee grounds and 2 percent milk. Surprisingly, it was as good as one from a Coffee shop! I like how you can make as little as a single cup or as much as a full carafe. I can't wait to buy some quality coffee and try more of the recipes included with the coffeemaker! If I could find something negative to say, it would be the size. It is too tall to fit under my cabinets at 15" high. I still highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a better cup of coffee or more variety than a Keurig can offer.

Great Mesh Solution

Mesh routers are pushed as the solution to our wifi issues, promising better coverage and speeds over a single wireless AP (router). I have tried a few mesh solutions and Linksys may have one of the best currently available. The nodes (mesh points) are slender satin white towers with perforated backs and a status LED on top. Each node has two gigabit ethernet ports for wired connectivity. The ports can also be used for backhaul (node to node communication) connectivity between nodes, but I found the dedicated wireless backhaul Linksys uses works great. As opposed to some mesh solutions that use the same radios for both client and node communication, Linksys Velop uses a dedicated radio providing far better performance. In fact, this is the fastest home mesh solution I have used. The 3 pack Velop may have been overkill for my home (<2000sq ft), but I was able to use the third node to extend coverage to a detached garage. If you have a smaller home, you could probably get by with just two nodes.
Using the Linksys app on your phone (which interfaces with the node via bluetooth) made the initial setup quick and easy. Configuring Velop using the app is also simple, you can quickly turn on Device prioritization and/or guest access. I found the parental controls lacking, you can manually block sites but can’t block categories, you can manually block internet access for a device but you can’t set up a schedule. Beyond this customization is fairly limited. You can’t configure QoS, setup VLANs, etc. Fortunately it does offer port forwarding and MAC filtering.
Another issue I have with Velop (and most home mesh solutions) is the lack of bridging capability, meaning sophisticated users that run a firewall (pfsense) or a device that is performing NAT will be disappointed with Velop. I am not sure if this is a feature they can implement in the future but at this time Velop does not support a bridge configuration. If you don’t know why you would need to bridge a device, you probably don’t need to bridge Velop! In which case it makes a fantastic wireless solution.
If the thought of setting up wireless routers makes you cringe and you are looking for an easy to install solution that will extend your wireless coverage throughout your home this is what you want.
