Echo for Kids!

My son loves asking Alexa to “tell him a joke”, even though he doesn’t quite understand the humor (he is seven). So I immediately thought of him when I discovered this toy. It doesn’t hurt that he also happens to adore Spider-Man! The Sphero Spider-Man provides more than just jokes, he can tell interactive stories, play games, and even ‘watch’ Spider-Man with you.
The device itself is a voice controlled computer that has various activities that can be operated without a constant internet connection. Though you need a smart phone to configure him initially, he can operate standalone after first set up. Though having a phone or tablet to interface with him does provide visual interaction and content updates, I found it wasn’t needed. Everything can be accomplished via voice commands, a huge plus considering the primary audience. Spider-Man has a soft rubber texture, movable arms, and animated eyes that are surprisingly expressive. I am impressed how Sphero was able to achieve the feel of Spider-Man using only voice and eye animations. In addition, Spider-Man has an infrared sensor and gyro meaning he can respond to both movement and motion, adding to the feel of him being ‘aware’. Speaking of aware, I applaud Sphero for not eavesdropping on our children, all voice recognition is processed on the device and not sent to the ‘cloud’.
My only negatives about Sphero Spider-Man are the short two hour battery life and the occasional delay in voice response. An occasional delay is acceptable versus requiring external processing to speed things and the battery life is mitigated by the included charging stand. Overall, Sphero did a fantastic job bringing the Spider-Man character to life without sacrificing privacy in the process. If you have any young (or old!) Spider-Man fans they are sure to love Sphero Spider-Man.

Very good sport headphones with custom sound

The Jaybird Freedom 2 is well designed with features such as ear tips with integrated fin, the SpeedFit cable management and discrete controls. The Freedom 2 are some of the best sounding earbuds I have owned, providing a very detailed, rich sound that is surprising at this price point.
In addition, the downloadable app allows you to choose from audio presets, browse community submitted presets, or even customize your own giving you further adjustment of the equalizer. The ability to fine tune them to match the style of music you are listening to is a feature I wish all headphones provided! In addition to adjusting audio levels the app allows playlist sharing and can even assist in locating your misplaced headphones.
Jaybird claims 4 hours of battery life plus an additional 4 hours with the included extended battery. What they don’t mention is that the extended battery is actually required to charge the headphones! The included extended battery clips on to the controls and charges via contacts on the battery. Unfortunately, what you expect in an attachable battery (small, discreet) is not desired in a device required to charge your headphones. I have not lost my battery yet, but I wish they would of built in the USB port on the controls or provided a charging cradle.
Furthermore, I had difficulty getting these to fit properly. If inserted too far the audio sounds bad, mid and low range drop off and only high frequencies came through. I tried all four sets provided, but they either felt loose or created a suction effect. I am not sure if this is due to the sweat proof design, but my significant other with smaller ears did not have these fitment issues so it may vary person to person.
I would rate these higher it weren’t for my fitment issues. Regardless, they are a great choice in sport headphones. If you are looking for a lightweight set of headphones that will stay in place during exercise and sound great I recommend you give these a try!

Cordless with great features

The Shark IONFLEX is one of the best cordless vacuums I have owned. I enjoy using the vacuum thanks to its lightweight, ease of use, and convenience. Shark provided some great features in what is normally a limited stick-vacuum design.
The Multi-FLEX wand has two functions. Increased reach and storing the vacuum with the wand attached. It is convenient that it can be folded down in “storage mode” as you don’t have to worry about it tipping over and it doesn’t require you to mount in on the wall.

The vacuum itself turns on/off with a button versus a trigger that other cordless vacuums use, making it easier and more comfortable. It provides two modes of cleaning; extended and max power. Extended runtime is great for everyday cleaning, where as max is for spot cleaning. The Shark does get a little loud while on max. On normal or extend runtime the noise is slightly louder then a higher priced cord free vac I own, but it is tolerable. However on max power, both vacuums run at comparable noise levels. Speaking of modes, expect to get a mere 6 minutes when running at ‘Max Power’, where as extended runtime provided around 30 minutes. The removable battery is a huge improvement over my other cordless. The IONFLEX 2X even comes with a second battery, allowing you to swap it out during cleaning if you need a little more time.
The DuoClean brush head is a great design that has worked very well on my tile, wood, and carpet floors. It features a standard bristle brush, as well as a finer soft brush that cleans tile and wood floors. It offers useful features such as a brush roll indicator (status light), tool-less top brush access, bright led lights, and easy removal of the soft brush. The brush head is roughly 2.25 inches tall in the front and increases to around 2.50 inches near the rear. Unfortunately, our kitchen cabinets have a 2.5 inch gap from the floor and the brush head rubs on the bottom of the cabinets; scratching the top of the brush head after one use. Obviously, I am more careful with it now, but the finish is not very durable.
My only nitpicks with the device were the exhaust blowing out of the bottom of the handle and the dust bin isn’t removable (without tools), but I feel these are minor annoyances. I think the Shark IONFLEX is a great choice for someone who has multiple floor types and wants a cordless with more features and flexibility.

The sound quality exceeded my expectations. I was impressed that I could hear every note of each song clearly as this little speaker’s sound effortlessly filled the room and beyond. It was easy to use of course, equipped with a few controls on the device to power on/off, adjust volume, play/pause and connect to Bluetooth - it has all the function I need. My fiancé loves the size and how conveniently it travels with us, awesome for on the go and because it’s waterproof it can go anywhere. The small size is definitely something she would feel more comfortable toting than a larger speaker. If she likes it, it’s a win!

The last blender you will buy

This blender appears simplistic but is very well made. It operates quietly and works better then another brand name blender I own. The blades combined with a powerful motor, blend anything with ease. I have only made a few smoothies and soups so far but it performs great! The only negatives are the speed dial feels a little cheap due to lack of resistance and the container doesn’t lock in place like another blender I own. Despite the lack of a lock, it stays in place and hasn’t come off during blending. I highly recommend this blender if you make a lot of smoothies or are looking for a high quality, well made blender that will last for years.

Promising Wireless Camera

The Circle 2 is a promising offering by Logitech, but unfortunately falls short of expectations. The camera performs well with activity notifications and recording quality while wired. The web client is responsive and plays video smoothly. Unfortunately, my primary expectations of using the camera wirelessly and with an app on my phone, fell short. If you setup the camera as a wireless camera it doesn’t detect motion reliably and often misses events. To test I walked in front of the window it is facing and the camera didn’t register any of the events unless I stood there for an extended period of time. Additionally, the battery drained 20% in 2 days far more then I anticipated. So I reconnected the charging cable (micro USB) and set it up for wired mode. Event detection is good when wired but the app (iOS iPhone 7) is buggy and playback is awful. The playback is so choppy it is practically useless. I really wanted to like this camera as I was looking for an alternative to the pricey Nest Aware. For now, I would wait and see if they can iron out the bugs with the app and improve detection when wireless without sacrificing battery.

Are you looking for a laptop that looks like the design is 8 years old, but can play modern PC games? Are you 15 or do you want people to think you still live with your parents? Well you just found your new gaming laptop! In all seriousness, the HP Omen delivers on performance, but falls short on appearance. Don’t get me wrong, some may enjoy the appearance, but I think they could of refined it and still provided a sharp sharp design to stand out.
Good:
-i7-7700HQ, 8GB DDR4 RAM, GTX 1050
-3 USB 3.1 ports, 1USB C, 1 Display Port, SD card slot, 1 HDMI, 1 gb ethernet ( No Dongles!)
-15.6” 1080P IPS, matte screen, games look great!
-Fair battery life (I managed 6 hours of web/video only and almost 3 hours of gaming)
-Great Keyboard, typing is smooth and keys are quiet.
-Geekbench OpenCL 72395, Multicore 12532.
-Can play recent PC games on high settings (Battlefront, Fallout 4 on ultra).
-Stays cool and fan is relatively quiet (after gaming for hours, only warm to the touch).
-Speakers sound great and provide plenty of sound.

If you are looking for a laptop that you can also bring to work or to a coffee shop without people judging your employment status, look elsewhere.

Very good mid range bluetooth earbuds

I found the JBL Everest 110 to be a nice set of earbuds at a reasonable price point. The first thing I noticed was I found them to fit very well out of the box. Usually I find myself trying different size tips, ultimately settling for a middle ground of comfort and fit. The Everest 110 are snug, staying put even while exercising, yet also don’t irritate after extended use. The battery life is good, rated at 8 hours, but seemed to last slightly less. I listen to a lot of podcast and audiobooks and these are very good with spoken audio. The earbuds seem to be fairly flat, which is nice for hearing nuances in music. Some people may find the sound to be thin, due to less bass compared to other earbuds, but I found listening to music is very clear and pronounced. The cable is thin, but well made and transmits very little microphonics. The charging cable is a unique reversible USB A on one side and a standard micro USB on the other. I would of liked to see USB type C at least on the earbuds side, but micro USB works fine. My only complaint with these are the charging port itself. The cover has a swivel, but doesn’t fully move out of the way for the cable. When plugging in to charge it compresses the cover where it pivots. I am not sure if this will breakdown the cover over time, but I have not noticed any issues thus far.

Inexpensive, but good quality headphones

JBuds Pro are a great, affordable set of earbuds. I use the earbuds with my iPhone, Mac, and my watch; all of which paired and work well with the ear buds. First off, these sound great. They are a little heavy on the bass, but most people will probably enjoy the range they offer. Spoken audio and music both performed well on these headphones. The JBuds Pro include interchangeable tips and removable cushion fins for a personalized fit. I found that the tips fit well, though after long term wear I found the raised logo on the tips to be slightly irritating. Fortunately, the irritation is minimal and I only noticed it once after extended amount of wear. The battery/controls are a little large, but offer great battery life. The cables connecting the earbuds are fairly thin and do transmit more movement noise (microphonics) than my other wired pair. The negatives of these earbuds are far out weighed by the great sound and affordable price. I recommend these for either an extra set to keep in your bag or if you are on a budget, but would like a decent pair of bluetooth headphones.

Awesome home projector

The Epson Home Cinema 4000 is by far the best performing home projector I have seen. This is my second projector to own, my first was an off brand that was only usable in a dark room. The Epson doesn’t have this problem, it is bright at 2200 lumens. Daytime viewing is possible even on the “ECO” lamp setting. At nighttime I found myself turning the brightness down, it is almost too bright! Part of my issue is the fact I am running it relatively close to my screen at 12’ away or half of the recommended distance. I don’t have a very large screen (only 80”) so I had to put it closer than would be ideal. A trade off is the screen is brighter, but the picture is still sharp and colors remained vibrant. The optical lens adjustment allowed me to run it this close and the lens was easy to adjust with the remote or on the projector itself. The projector also features lens and calibration memory settings for recalling your perfect setup for a given distance and screen. If you aren’t going to mount the on ceiling, be sure you have a dedicated spot as this is a large projector (18”x20”x7”), as are most home theater projectors of this caliber. A huge plus for me is the fan. In ECO mode the fan is practically silent, but kicks up when running dynamic colors. The fan noise is audible when running Medium or High power modes, but the noise is comparable to other projectors in this range if not quieter. My only issue with the projector is the brightness, however, I can’t fault the projector for the shortcomings of my own setup (relatively small 80” screen and short throw). The projector is 4k capable, but from what I have read it is using pixel shift for sudo 4k projection. I haven’t tested any 4k video yet, but the upscaling of 1080p content looks phenomenal. I also tested a few PS4 games with HDR and found the picture to be better quality than my TV while still maintaining low latency. I recommend this projector for someone looking to upgrade their current setup or wanting to have their very own high-end home theater experience.
