Good, all-around headset
on March 6, 2019

Pretty good headset for gaming. I used these on my PS4 and the sounds quality is quite impressive. The large speakers give good sound quality and a pleasant thump on those explosions and machine gun fire. I was playing some RDR2 and COD: Modern Warfare and the headphones sounded pretty good.
Headphones come as shown along with a splitter. They have a good weight and can be used for long periods without any discomfort. For those with big heads like me, these fit just fine with no pinching at the top like some other headphones do. I used these on my PC as well and sound better simply due to the fact I'm able change EQ settings. Other then that, they work just great on either console or PC.
These are wired so sometimes you'll hear some vibrations from the cord if you move around. Would've been nice if these were bluetooth but, considering the price, I think these are great for all around use.

Microwaving has evolved! When it comes to everything you expect in a microwave, nothing compares with the defrosting, cooking, and reheating capability of the new Cyclonic Wave. At every temperature level, Cyclonic Wave circulates heat in precision, ultra-efficient 3D waves for easier, more versatile food preparation, even with denser, more complex food textures. This exceptional microwave also includes patented Inverter Technology. Unlike traditional microwaves that rely on pulse-on, pulse-off power at lower temperatures, Inverter Technology delivers a constant stream of cooking power at every temperature. The result? More evenly cooked meals — edges to centers — every time. Put together, Cyclonic Wave with Inverter Technology provides the fastest, most efficient way to enjoy perfectly prepared snacks, sides, and meals across a broader range of cooking techniques, while also maintaining more of the natural nutrients and flavor you want. It's the ultimate combination by Panasonic!

Powerful and stylish microwave
on January 22, 2019

I'm a terrible cook so I pretty much eat food cooked in a microwave all the time. I previously had a smaller, low power microwave. It did the trick but wasn't the greatest due to it's small size and low power. It was a 0.7 cubic foot, 900 watt microwave. Needless to say, this one is significantly larger and more powerful. Just from this alone, it took a bit getting used to. Normally, with my older microwave, if I was cooking something that said to cook it for 3 minutes, I'd have to cook it for 5 in my older microwave. This habit is kind of hard to break.
This Panasonic Prestige Plus is pretty much the last (hopefully) microwave I'll ever need. It's powerful and I can put much larger leftover bowls. Cooking time is much less now since this is a 1250 watt microwave. This thing cooks quite evenly which my older microwave did not. Cooking soup or TV dinners, the food is evenly cooked however I noticed the bowl gets much hotter than before. I managed to defrost some steaks as well which went pretty smoothly. My older microwave couldn't even do this.
To be honest, this thing has so many features that I haven't even been able to use them all. It's quite robust in that respect so this is more than just a microwave in my opinion. One of the drawbacks to this the touch panel. Most microwaves I've seen usually have some text on the buttons so you know what it does. This one does not. I had to read the instruction manual to figure out what the buttons do so, over time, I'll get the hang of it. Other thing to keep in mind is that this microwave is pretty big. It's almost twice the size of my older one so you'll need to have a large space to put this thing in. Fortunately, i have a stand alone cabinet which just happened to be big enough to place this thing on to.
While this isn't for most peoples needs, I think it;s a great appliance to have. For those people, like me, that use microwaves religiously, having a top end microwave really helps out in the long run.

Dell quality and versatile AIO computer
on December 7, 2018
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
I wanted a desktop when I work from home however I didn't want the typical screen/tower combo. I was looking for an AIO and this one seemed to fit the bill.
The screen is quite spacious and crisp. Touchscreen works quite well however I'm not certain how often I'll use this feature. Built-in speakers on the bottom of the screen are quite loud so no issue with sound here.
The camera is a bit odd in that it's recessed at the top of the top and can be opened by clicking on it which will spring it up. Took me awhile to find it but sorta cool. With the spacious 27" screen, conference calls seem to be a bit more nicer I think.
As far as specs, I think it's quite a a solid setup. The i7 processor is speedy enough for my needs. I don't do any picture/video editing so I can't comment on performance. I mainly use this for "standard" work duties. 1TB hard drive is spacious as well however it seems a tad slow. I'm debating on swapping the HD out for a SSD just to speed things up. 12GB of RAM is plenty enough for virtually any task and multitasking doesn't seem to be an issue here. I believe the RAM can be upgraded to 32GB max however, I don't particularly see an immediate need to max out the RAM.
This has your standard slots/ports however the USB slots are 2.0. Would've been nice to have them 3.0. As far as ports, this pretty much has you covered on most, if not all, of them.
The keyboard/mouse that came with this is OK. I will definitely be swapping these out for something a little more ergonomic but, eh, they were included.
There isn't too much bloatware on this aside from the normal Dell/MS stuff. Unistall McAfee and the Office trial and you should be set.
Great little setup

Surprising power in such a small unit
on November 19, 2018
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
I've used numerous handheld vacs before but all of them seem to come up short in the power/suction department. Corded ones are great however I mainly use these handheld vacuums for cleaning my truck. As such, I was a bit leery of the power on such a small vacuum.
I have carpeting in truck cab as well as the occasional dog hair. I figured if this vacuum could clean that up, I'd be happy. After a full charge, I was quite surprised at the suction power of this vacuum. It cleaned up embedded dog hair quite well, not perfect, but well enough for "clean". The crevice tool works great at getting dirt under the seat as well as the rogue french fry. Pretty happy with the performance of this.
Only downside is the the battery doesn't last too long. The vacuum charges up pretty quick however it also goes through power pretty fast as well. I'm able to clean most of my truck cab but not all of it.

Great electric toothbrush

I've previously used an Oral-B as my toothbrush however mine recently died after a good 7 year run. Having used the Sonicare, I can say that it does clean much better than my Oral-B did. It just feels like your teeth are so clean and fresh which is always nice. Charging dock is a tad weird but works well. My Oral-B had a dock with a little post where you would place the handle back onto whenever you were done. The cup thing just seems weird plus it'll get filled with gunk in no time. My only cause for concern is this things longevity. My Oral-B lasted a long time (by toothbrush standard) and I was bit bummed when it did. I'm hoping this toothbrush will last just as long, if not longer, than my previous one did.

Pretty nice body trimmer. There's two ends; one for longer hair and the other for shorter trimming. There's a button for each side. The longer hair trimmer has a trimming guide that extends up to 11mm. The shorter hair trimmer pivots for easier trimming.

Classic Bose sound
on November 5, 2018

I've been wanting an Alexa capable device for some time now in a speaker. I have quite a library on Amazon Music so, other than my laptop/cell, I don't really have a way to play it. This speaker is the best of both worlds for me and sound quality is great.
This is Bose and I'm always impressed with their products and this is no different. Size-wise, this is just taller than your average book and a tad on the heavy side. No issue with size really however, the sound that comes out of it, is superb. The touch controls on top of the speaker make for quick access. There are 6 preset buttons which you can program to play a specific playlist, track or radio station which is nice. Appearance wise, it looks pretty tame however I like the sleek, all black look.
The sound is typical Bose quality. I used this speaker in my bedroom and the sound is quick rich. I previously used a Bose color Soundlink in my bedroom however it's getting replaced by this speaker. The Soundlink is no slouch when it comes to sound quality in a small package however this speaker makes the Soundlink almost cheap by comparison. Really rich sound with just the right amount of punchy bass. Great speaker and made even better with the Alexa built in.

The size alone makes this a great drive. 4TB can pretty much hold all my music/photos/docs with plenty of room to spare. Size wise, it's spot on easily fits in my work bag. Speed is pretty good. I don't have speed metrics to provide but files copy over fairly quickly so no complaints there.

Comfortable mouse. Takes some time getting used to
on October 18, 2018
Posted by: LouRevue
from Washington, DC
Like most people, I'm using "standard" sized mouse. I currently have a Logitech MX2 which has a slimmer profile compared to other normal sized mouse. I enjoy it in that it's small and travels easily with my work laptop.
However, for my home setup, I kind of like a more comfortable mouse. I've seen vertical mice before however they looked weird and figured there's no way I can use one comfortably. After about 30 minutes or so with this mouse, I can say it's quite easy to use however you'll need a bit of time to get used to it. For normal usage I think this mouse is fine however, if you do any sort of graphics or anything that requires pinpoint accuracy, this might not be for you.
There is a setting button right on top of the mouse which you can adjust the mouse speed on the fly. Very handy but still haven't found the right speed setting for me yet. All the buttons are the same but the Back/Forward buttons on the thumb take a little while getting used to. Almost seems that my thumb is too short to use them easily.
But as far as comfort, this mouse feels great. Your hand is in a neutral position, almost in a handshake position, so there's isn't any cramping after prolonged usage. Once you get the speed and different form factor addressed, this is a really nice mouse to use. Due to size, it's really not a travelling mouse so more for your home/office. Overall, great mouse and very comfortable.

Still the gold standard for the office
on October 15, 2018
Posted by: LouRevue

Not really sure what can be said that hasn't already been said. This is the latest version of Office and it performs just like all previous versions. With the inclusion of Outlook, I no longer have to login to my corporate webmail to access emails like some vagabond contractor. Word/Excel work great and haven't had any issues so far with crashing. Only real downside is the price. With LibreOffice, Open Office and Google Docs, there are plenty of free alternatives for creating documents these days.

Excellent laptop for everyday use
By LouRevue from Washington, DC
Having had the chance to use this laptop, I must say it’s quite an impressive model for almostn any use. With an abundance of features housed in a sleek, stylish body, it’s a solid laptop for anyone in the market for a new/replacement laptop.
Using a 7th gen i5 dual core processor, the laptop functions on par with just about any laptop in its price range. With 8GB of RAM (12GB max) and a 1TB hard drive, it offers plenty of speed and room for all your files and enough power/speed to perform almost any task.
As far as the aesthetics go, this is an impressive looking laptop with clean lines, brushed aluminum cover and beveled edges. It’s a very nice looking laptop no doubt and the design, overall, is quite appealing. It comes with a full size keyboard as well as backlit keys which is a nice touch. Only gripe with the keyboard are the arrow buttons as the Up/Down buttons are smaller due to keyboard layout. The power button is on the right side of the laptop which is a bit unique as well as a dedicated volume button. There are 2 USB 3.0 ports as well as 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI, SD Card and USB-C port. There is no CD drive for anyone wondering. The laptop (closed) is only about ¾ inch tall however it’s a bit wider than most due to the full size keyboard.
Power/performance. Using a dual-core processor I was under the impression this would be relatively slow and have choppy performance when opening multiple programs. Being this is the latest gen processor from Intel, this is not the case. Opening 2-3 programs at once was done with relative ease and switching between them was pretty flawless. The 8GB RAM comes in quite handy here and even with a 5400 RPM HDD, this laptop was able to perform tasks with very good speed. Battery life is pretty good. Using it “normally” and leaving it on for about 5-6 hours, there was about 50% battery left. Also, one very noteworthy benefit to this laptop, it doesn’t get that hot when left on for long periods of time which is VERY nice.
The display is probably the most impressive feature on here. A full 1080p display is quite vibrant and displays bright and dark colors extremely well. Those wanting to watch Netflix/Hulu will have no issues with the display. In addition to visuals, the sound from this laptop is equally impressive. For watching movies or just playing music, the speakers on this laptop deliver quite nicely without too much reverberation or distorted sound.
One of my initial thoughts of this being a 2-in-1 was that the tablet was an afterthought/gimmick. Having used previous 2-in-1 laptops, I was expecting the tablet functionality to be quite lackluster. Again, this was not the case. In this unit, you have, both, a well built laptop as well as tablet on-the-go device. Once in tablet mode, the screen orients itself to that of a normal tablet using Windows Tiles. Touch sensitivity is surprisingly smooth and using paint programs worked well without any lag or drops in sensitivity. Using the tablet form works really well when you want to sit back and watch videos or movies. Very nice.
A couple concerns with this laptop were;
The hard drive. While it’s a large 1TB drive, I would’ve expected something, at least, in the 7200 RPM range. Being fast enough for normal business related tasks, anyone wanting to use this laptop for video editing or other processor intensive jobs might find it to be a bit slow. This can easily be remedied by replacing the HD for a faster spindle drive or a SSD. However it would’ve been nice to have a tad faster hard drive here.
The keyboard, for me, took a bit getting used to since I have previously used standard laptop keyboards without the number pad. This is a personal preference so nothing against the design. Just noting that those of you used to that type of laptop keyboard, there will be a bit of learning curve involved however I think the addition of the number pad is great thing and should be standard on all laptops.
While the brushed aluminum case is aesthetically appealing, I’m a little concerned about it getting scratched/dinged from normal use or if when you’re changing it to be used as a tablet. This is the case with some laptops that use this metal casing so just something to be aware of.
Overall, this is an impressive laptop, reasonably priced with enough up-to-date technology that will last you for several years to come. Being that it’s a 2-in-1, it’s an added bonus which allows you to use this device in ways you should be able to do and with relative ease. There is some bloatware included (this should be no surprise) so make sure to uninstall/delete the stuff you don’t need. Aside from a somewhat slow hard drive, the other features on this laptop more than make up for it. Very nice buy for a new work laptop or student.

Bloatware?

It took a bit of time to setup my laptop as well. Have you tried uninstalling the bloatware on this laptop? I did and I don't have any issues with boot speed or anything else on my laptop.

Can an owner of the original non active 65t comment on the fit and stability difference with the active version? Curious if that and the extra IP rating is worth a look, or negligible.

I own both the active and regular 65T's and I don't see any noticeable difference between them. Aside from the IP rating, there's really not much difference. Both fit exactly the same and fit pretty snugly in the ear.

Brighten your day and night with this Philips Being Hue ceiling light. The dimming function lets you set an ambience for different moods, and it works with the Philips Hue dimmer switch and mobile app for versatile control. The ZigBee technology of this 32W Philips Being Hue ceiling lamp provides smooth, efficient interoperability with multiple Hue lighting units.

Can this light be controlled by a existing wired wall switch? I plan to replace the light that is already there with this one, but I would prefer to use the wired switch.

Yes you can...that's what I did. One thing to note is that the light won't come on immediately like your current light fixture does. There's a second or two delay after you flip the switch. I'm planning on replacing the switch with a dimmer switch so maybe that will correct the delay.
