Stout little Bluetooth/party speaker
on June 30, 2026
Posted by: LouRevue
Pretty cool little Bluetooth speaker. In addition to being your typical party speaker, this thing can also serve as a karaoke machine or as the "emcee" speaker.
From a sound perspective, very nice sound. Loud enough where you can keep the party going but not too louis where it'll be shaking the glasses or furniture. Has your standard aux In/out ports to hook up what you want,. There's also connections for a guitar and microphone as well so you can use this speaker either at the house party or on the street side busking.

There is an Ultra bass mode that pumps up the deep notes if that's your thing. Up top there are controls for the micas well as playback controls for whatever you have hooked up to the speaker.
Can't forget this also has pretty lights too (RGB) for the house parties. Pretty lights always are a good thing in my opinion.
So if you're in the market for a multi-use party speaker, this should suit you nicely. Standard Bluetooth speaker, guitar amp, microphone,,,,plus the pretty lights.

Great wearable to track your vitals
on June 27, 2026
Posted by: LouRevue
I have a few wearables like a FitBit and Apple Watch, but none of them are as comfortable as the Oura ring. ON top of being comfortable, it's quite nondescript in appearance making it a little more out of the way.
I have the gen 4 Oura ring and this gen 5 version has some nice enhancements. Firstly, the size. Being a ring, there's only so much you can have size wise with one but the gen 5 version does manage to shave off a couple millimeters compared to the previous gen. Now it might not be much but appearance wise, it does look a bit nicer and feels a smidge more comfortable as well.
Next, the battery life seems quite improved with this gen 5 version. The older version lasted quite a bit easily but this Oura 5 can go several days without needing a charge, Nice in that it's one less thing I need to constantly charge. FYI, the charger for the gen 4 is different for gen 5 ring.
Biggest pro for this ring is obviously the data it tracks. From your typical heart rate, sleep, steps, etc., you have a plethora of data to review AND receive metrics back on through the Oura app,. The stress and overall health cards I find the most resourceful to me.
On top of being so small and discreet, this wearable provides a lot of data aimed at getting you better health and better insight into your activities.

Aah...the feels....

Been ages since I've used a camera, let alone a camera that used film, AND let alone a Polaroid. If you're old enough to remember these things, they were the thing to have on your family tri[p or wherever your were going with your friends. Selfies and cell phone cameras now dominate this space but, pretty cool to use of these again.
Just like with the original, it's just a simple point and shoot with the camera. There is a small flash on the camera so you can take pics in low(er) light. Also, as with the original, once you click the camera, the mini Polaroid pic pops out and then you got to wait for the pic to develop on the film. The pic is small. It's about 2 x 2 1/2 inches in size. Unless my memory is off, it seems like it takes a lot longer with this camera for the image to develop. Seems like it took about 10 minutes or so for the image to completely develop.
What I will say is that lighting is pretty key. I had another image fail to develop properly even though I (thought) there was ample lighting. Turns out....no.....it wasn't.

Wish I had this when I was in college

Having been in the working class for the past few decades, one thing that always is of concern for me is meetings and getting what everyone said in the meeting. As a business analyst, I find this to be critical in ID'ing customer requirements as well as having some measure of documentation for audio meetings/requirements.
Today, you can usually get a recording of the meeting either through Teams or Skype or whatever conferencing software you're using. However, it would be super useful to have your own physical copy of the recording or recording device. True, there are those mini cassette recorders as well as digital recorders as well but the biggest thing their recordings lack? Transcription.
With this PLAUD recorder and the accompanying software, you can now get PDF transcripts of your recordings for easier review/reference which is huge. No more having to sit through 20 minues, 40 minutes or an hour and a half of some tape trying to find that one part. With the transcription of the recording laid out, it's also a fantastic reference and documentation piece for your work as well.
For students, this thing case pretty much transcibe your own Cliff Notes from any lecture or speech. Of course, you should pay attention and learn from them but, just in case you missed a line or something, something like this would be a life saver.
For students, I think this would be a huge asset especially since lectures or speeches may be a one time only thing without follow up so having a transcription of the lecture would be vital

Wow….just wow
on June 13, 2026
Posted by: LouRevue
First thing that comes to mind with this TV is its sheer size. Previously, I had a 65" which I thought was pretty big. But this 98" makes the 65" TV look like a old PC monitor. With that increase in screen real estate, yes, everything just looks that much better.
The 4k resolution on this TV is quite impressive. For TVs, especially larger ones, the clarity of the screen can be hit or miss sometimes. Everything with this screen is quite crisp and clear. I have no issues with the clarity of this TV and am quite please with it. So far, everything from console gaming to Blu-Rays are coming in quite beautifully. When playing video games, the screen is so large the characters on the screen almost look life like.
That said, with such a massive TV, logistics is most likely going to be an issue. Transporting this thing was quite a chore. Installation can be somewhat easy if you decide simply to just use the stand legs with the TV. However, I'd highly recommend getting this professionally mounted/setup as the look will be that much more complete. Also need to make sure you got the space for this thing wherever it is it finally rests at your place.
This is an entertainment center dream TV really. The size alone makes this screen the centerpiece of any home entertainment system. Hooking up all your peripherals to it is also a breeze with ample HDMI hook ups and other ports. Also makes things much easier if you have a A/V receiver to act as the primary hookup and then have the TV tap into that.
That said, you can go pretty much any direction you want with this TV. It's a showstopper for sure so plan accordingly. This is one heavy, big TV so it needs to be treated as such FYI. Ever with all that said, wow, such a great TV both in terms of functionality and just sheer entertainment value

Corsair quality. Great budget headset
on June 10, 2026
Posted by: LouRevue
If you're in the market for a budget friendly gaming headset, Corsair comes through with their HS35 v3. It's a good blend of quality performance headset that's reasonable priced. This model comes in both wireless and wired varieties.
Having used a few gaming headsets in my time, finding decent ones that don't break the bank is slowly becoming more and more of a chore. With the HS35, you get a good sounding set of headsets, compatible with most platforms, all for a reasonable price.
The fit is quite good on these even for me who has a rather larger head. I can play for hours with these on without any discomfort and the fabric earpads ensure there's no sweaty headset after long gaming sessions.
Sound wise, as you'[d expect from Corsair. Good sound both from the speakers and the mic. Didn't have any issues with team members hearing me or them during gameplay. I'm sure the wireless version of this headset offers decent battery life but I much prefer wired headsets since I'm on PC.
Very nice headset without needing to budget in another paycheck to afford this one.

Earpods need to watch their back.
on June 10, 2026
Posted by: LouRevue
For the longest time, Apple Earpods have been my go-to headphones. From listening to music, taking phone calls and just having them in for whatever; they've found a nice place in my ears for all my audio needs. However, these new earbuds from Anker are seriously giving my Earpods a run for their money.
Sound wise, spot on and excellent as one would expect. The noise cancellation on these is on par with virtually any earbuds/headphones I've used thus far. Sound for music is excellent as well since you have the option/ability to change sound settings/EQ on these through the earbud case. Same for phone calls. Very high quality sound and no issues with lag or choppy sound.
The extra touch with these earbuds comes with the case. The case, in addition to acting as an extra battery., can also function as a secondary mic for recording meetings and even a remote shutter for your phone's camera. The case itself enables a slew of settings and other adjustable menu items through the earbuds. Things from audio settings to battery levels can ne cycled through using the screen on the case which is really convenient I've found.
That said, it's missing the real time translation the Earpods have but Anker is slowly catching up in terms of their earbuds games which is a pleasant to see.

Great headset for the road warrior or WFH
on June 1, 2026
Posted by: LouRevue
Great headset to pickup if you're in the market for something not quite a full blown headset but something you still need to take calls with hands free. Usually I see truckers or heavy drivers wearing these types of headsets. If you need something hands free but not quite as dainty as a Bluetooth headset then something like this is right up your alley.
Firstly, the fit of this is quite nice. Sometimes, headsets can feel a bit restrictive depending on your headset, size of your head, etc. Something like this fits much
better and is more comfortable longer term than a headset I feel.
Like with any other Bluetooth headset, this is pretty much a setup and forget it accessory. Once it's paired up with your phone and on, connectivity is pretty spot on and consistent. Sound quality, both audio and speech, is spot on as well. Crystal clear audio thanks to the noise cancellation on this headset and didn't receive any complaints about my voice crackling or coming in weak.
While this type of headset is geared more for distance drivers, if you work from home or just need a hands free option for calls, this headset also works great in that respect too.

Nice take on health wearables
on May 29, 2026
Posted by: LouRevue
There's lots of wearable electronics these days from watches to rings and everything in between. They're nice in that they help track health and sleep cycles and such. Having had a few of these wearables, they're really good depending on the need you have for them.
Like many people, I started off with an Apple Watch to track normal health stats. Thing is that I found it to be a little overkill for things for passive activities, specifically sleeping. Depending on the band you have, the watch can feel a little too much or uncomfortable when you're wearing it while sleeping.
Enter the FitBit where it's a lot better geared for sleep tracking simply due to it size. It's really just a band so no screen or watch face to distract you while wearing it. It's just a wear it and forget it type accessory. There's no screen on it so less potential for distractionns from it, but also there's no way to easily view your stats without grabbing your phone. I feel this isn't as big an issue as I thought it would be since it forces you to check your phone only when needed.
The Google Health app enables you to track all the pertinent information you'd expect from a wearable with the ability to customize which stats you can track in the dashboard.
The FitBit weighs next to nothing so you hardly \know it's there. But it tracks lots of useful info while out and about.

Massive upgrade for your PC
on May 27, 2026
Posted by: LouRevue
Upgrading your hard drive can be one of the most efficient speed upgrades you can perform to increase speed of your PC and increasing HD capacity. Only downside is the price, especially considering today's economy.
There was a time when 1TB was large enough for any PC/Laptop but with games/applications these days getting ridiculously massive, hard drive space is now a premium. Going with a 2TB is usually the best recommendation these days.
Biggest thing when upgrading your hard drive is the speed and also, what type of drive it is. NVME are the rage while the older spindle or spinning HDs have, mostly, gone by the way side. In my system, I have 5 NVME drives and I can tell you, speed is not an issue with my system. Most of the read/write speeds on my NVMEs are pretty decent but I have a couple in the 6,000mb/s range. This drive puts out an impressive 7,300mb/s read/write speed which will certainly upgrade your PC.
This particular model comes in 4TB and 8Tb models however, if you want one of those, you'll need to really examine your needs and your annual income to make sure you can afford them.
Only "caveat" to this is that there is an attachedf heatsink on the hard drive. Depending on your motherboard layout, NVMEs with heatsinks can cause some fitment issues so be aware of that.

Excellent laptop for everyday use
By LouRevue from Washington, DC
Having had the chance to use this laptop, I must say it’s quite an impressive model for almostn any use. With an abundance of features housed in a sleek, stylish body, it’s a solid laptop for anyone in the market for a new/replacement laptop.
Using a 7th gen i5 dual core processor, the laptop functions on par with just about any laptop in its price range. With 8GB of RAM (12GB max) and a 1TB hard drive, it offers plenty of speed and room for all your files and enough power/speed to perform almost any task.
As far as the aesthetics go, this is an impressive looking laptop with clean lines, brushed aluminum cover and beveled edges. It’s a very nice looking laptop no doubt and the design, overall, is quite appealing. It comes with a full size keyboard as well as backlit keys which is a nice touch. Only gripe with the keyboard are the arrow buttons as the Up/Down buttons are smaller due to keyboard layout. The power button is on the right side of the laptop which is a bit unique as well as a dedicated volume button. There are 2 USB 3.0 ports as well as 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI, SD Card and USB-C port. There is no CD drive for anyone wondering. The laptop (closed) is only about ¾ inch tall however it’s a bit wider than most due to the full size keyboard.
Power/performance. Using a dual-core processor I was under the impression this would be relatively slow and have choppy performance when opening multiple programs. Being this is the latest gen processor from Intel, this is not the case. Opening 2-3 programs at once was done with relative ease and switching between them was pretty flawless. The 8GB RAM comes in quite handy here and even with a 5400 RPM HDD, this laptop was able to perform tasks with very good speed. Battery life is pretty good. Using it “normally” and leaving it on for about 5-6 hours, there was about 50% battery left. Also, one very noteworthy benefit to this laptop, it doesn’t get that hot when left on for long periods of time which is VERY nice.
The display is probably the most impressive feature on here. A full 1080p display is quite vibrant and displays bright and dark colors extremely well. Those wanting to watch Netflix/Hulu will have no issues with the display. In addition to visuals, the sound from this laptop is equally impressive. For watching movies or just playing music, the speakers on this laptop deliver quite nicely without too much reverberation or distorted sound.
One of my initial thoughts of this being a 2-in-1 was that the tablet was an afterthought/gimmick. Having used previous 2-in-1 laptops, I was expecting the tablet functionality to be quite lackluster. Again, this was not the case. In this unit, you have, both, a well built laptop as well as tablet on-the-go device. Once in tablet mode, the screen orients itself to that of a normal tablet using Windows Tiles. Touch sensitivity is surprisingly smooth and using paint programs worked well without any lag or drops in sensitivity. Using the tablet form works really well when you want to sit back and watch videos or movies. Very nice.
A couple concerns with this laptop were;
The hard drive. While it’s a large 1TB drive, I would’ve expected something, at least, in the 7200 RPM range. Being fast enough for normal business related tasks, anyone wanting to use this laptop for video editing or other processor intensive jobs might find it to be a bit slow. This can easily be remedied by replacing the HD for a faster spindle drive or a SSD. However it would’ve been nice to have a tad faster hard drive here.
The keyboard, for me, took a bit getting used to since I have previously used standard laptop keyboards without the number pad. This is a personal preference so nothing against the design. Just noting that those of you used to that type of laptop keyboard, there will be a bit of learning curve involved however I think the addition of the number pad is great thing and should be standard on all laptops.
While the brushed aluminum case is aesthetically appealing, I’m a little concerned about it getting scratched/dinged from normal use or if when you’re changing it to be used as a tablet. This is the case with some laptops that use this metal casing so just something to be aware of.
Overall, this is an impressive laptop, reasonably priced with enough up-to-date technology that will last you for several years to come. Being that it’s a 2-in-1, it’s an added bonus which allows you to use this device in ways you should be able to do and with relative ease. There is some bloatware included (this should be no surprise) so make sure to uninstall/delete the stuff you don’t need. Aside from a somewhat slow hard drive, the other features on this laptop more than make up for it. Very nice buy for a new work laptop or student.

Bloatware?

It took a bit of time to setup my laptop as well. Have you tried uninstalling the bloatware on this laptop? I did and I don't have any issues with boot speed or anything else on my laptop.

Can an owner of the original non active 65t comment on the fit and stability difference with the active version? Curious if that and the extra IP rating is worth a look, or negligible.

I own both the active and regular 65T's and I don't see any noticeable difference between them. Aside from the IP rating, there's really not much difference. Both fit exactly the same and fit pretty snugly in the ear.

Brighten your day and night with this Philips Being Hue ceiling light. The dimming function lets you set an ambience for different moods, and it works with the Philips Hue dimmer switch and mobile app for versatile control. The ZigBee technology of this 32W Philips Being Hue ceiling lamp provides smooth, efficient interoperability with multiple Hue lighting units.

Can this light be controlled by a existing wired wall switch? I plan to replace the light that is already there with this one, but I would prefer to use the wired switch.

Yes you can...that's what I did. One thing to note is that the light won't come on immediately like your current light fixture does. There's a second or two delay after you flip the switch. I'm planning on replacing the switch with a dimmer switch so maybe that will correct the delay.
