Basic but gets the job done. Pricey too
on November 11, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
Time of the year to try out oodles of cases for my new iPhone. Have tried out a few, like this one, but still on the search for the daily driver. This case is pretty basic in terms of looks/features. There aren't any fancy windows or specialized buttons on here. It's just a case.
The case is hard plastic and a bit slick to the touch. Magsafe ring on the back. The buttons are covered to a certain extent however there are parts of the buttons beneath that are still exposed to the elements/debris/etc. There is no camera button cover on this case. Instead, it's just the normal camera cutout for the button beneath. A bit disappointing to be honest considering most other case manufacturers have some sort of cover for this button. AND considering the price of this case, you'd expect this little extra to be added into the case somehow.
Overall, decent case but again, very basic. For the price of this case, I either would've expected Magsafe ring, covered camera plateau, increased shock absorption or something. As is, this just really looks like an overpriced case you'd find in a clearance bin somewhere.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good, beefy case if that's what you're looking for
on November 7, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
With my new 17 Pro Max, I wanted a beefy case that would hold up to some abuse/drops. Usually, I'm an Otterbox guy but their cases just didn't cut it for me for some reason. I previously had the Defender XT series case but the camera button cutout they had was pretty poorly executed for a second year now. I came across this ZAGG case and it seemed like it checked all the boxes for my new case.
The case is beefy as I mentioned. It's about the size of the Defender case from Otterbox so there is both heft and size to this case. But for those of you looking for that in a case, shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary. All the buttons are prominent and very tactile. The camera button cover also is nice as well. While it's not raised like I would've hoped, it works well enough and I don't have the issue where I'm accidentally pressing it like with a lot of other cases I've used.
The power plug cover snaps into place nicely however I find that, every once in awhile, it's a bit stubborn to open up for whatever reason. Not a huge thing but just something I noticed.
Case has a good texture to it. Not too rubbery and not too slick. Holds well in the hand and fits nice as beefy a case like this can. I don't use the kickstand that much but it's nice that it's there. And the Magsafe provides a strong hold to all my existing Magsafe holders/chargers too.
Overall, very nice beefy case. I don't have any hesitation with this case not protecting it should I drop the phone. Has the usual features I wanted and it looks pretty good too.

I'm liking this more than I thought I would
on November 7, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
I've always had a glass screen protector on my phones ever since they first started coming out with them. Much easier to install, more durable and offer better protection than the older PET film type. However I've always used the clear ones and never thought about the privacy ones.
Previously, I tried the privacy tinted screen protectors but found them to be too dim for normal use. I had them on much older iPhones and the film type, not the glass ones mind you. However, with my 17 Pro Max, I figured a change would be nice so I decided to try out the privacy ones on my new phone.
As with glass screen protector, this one went on super easy. The kit comes with an easy apply setup so all you need to do it line up your phone, pull the paper sleeve and it installs in a jiffy.
I guess with the newer technology or the fact that it's glass, the dimness I had encountered with previous ones was gone. There is some dimness to the screen with this on but not nearly as bad as it was before. The added privacy with this on is quite nice. From most normal viewing angles, everything is clear and easy to see. But just when you move the angle a touch, that's when the privacy kicks in which is great. I'm actually liking this setup much more than with the clear protector.

Helpful and stylish looking

t first glance, most people will take a look at this "accessory" and think it's more marketing garbage or something that is just there to capitalize on the iDevice accessory fad. Maybe....maybe not. But with the size of these camera bumps and the persistent clumsiness of their owners, might not be as "useless" as you think.
For me, I started using these once I got my 14 Pro Max. I'm one of those folks that will shove my phone into a case the moment I get it to prevent and scratches or damages befalling my precious investment. Glass screen protector too. But, with these camera bumps getting larger and larger, just seemed like this would be another issue to address in the event of a drop or whatever.
My 14PM went without incident but with my 16 Pro Max, that's where it clicked for me. I had some of these on my 16PM and wound up dropping my phone pretty severely. After looking at my phone, I noticed the entire protector I had put on the camera lenses was shattered. Thankfully, after removing it, the camera bumps were completely in tact, not even a scratch on them.
For these in particular, I feel they're spot on with other brands I've used before so I have no doubts that these will protect in the event of a fall. The only "real" complaint I've heard is from people complaining about picture quality being reduced or blurriness. I'm no photog so I can't really comment but I've never had any picture quality issues while using these. The only thing I have encountered is some lens flare but that has been extremely limited.

Good center stage camera for the house
on November 5, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
With all these home security cameras on the market, I think it's really important to showcase ones like this almost as being a "necessity" if you plan on getting a surveillance system in your place.
Pretty much all camera systems will have a "main" camera that is stationary and probably to be used in the living room or someplace large/heavily frequented. What they should be saying is that having the "main" camera in your setup should be a pan and tilt one like this. They offer way more flexibility within the system you use and can be easily used to show case your place in real time.
I think most people, i.e. condo/apartment dwellers, should be fine with a stationary camera since the layout of these types of places are somewhat small. However, having a pan and tilt greatly increases your viewing area and minimizes the need for overlap or blind spots. I have this setup currently in my condo and it works great. I'm able to get the main living room, hallway as well as a couple other entry points in camera range without the need of adding more cameras.
If you are going with a security system, it's best to get one that's all branded the same since Arlo is a subscription based fee on it. Makes things a little easier both for compatibility and keeping per month pricing at a minimum.

Super small but nice picture clarity
on October 30, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
Pretty simple but effective dash cam that offers good picture quality.
I've used a few different dash cams from other manufacturers and all have their strengths/weaknesses and this one is no different. That said, for something so relatively small, it's a very nice dash cam to use.
The first thing I found interesting was the size of this thing. Compared to other dash cams which are usually larger in size, this thing is really tiny. Also it's very lightweight as well so hanging it from wherever in your automobile is going to be a cinch.
Most dash cams I've used have had some sort of built-in screen which I find quite useful. This one is so small that it doesn't however, if you download the companion smartphone app, you can connect through to the dash cam using your phone. As such, you're able to make necessary adjustments to the camera as needed as well as share/download any data you have stored on the camera.
Included with the camera is a MicroSD card and case, charging cable and cigarette plug as well as mounting tape. Having used this for a bit, quite surprised with its performance. Little thing works very well and can be mounted just about anywhere making it nearly out of sight. Looking for an option/cable to have this auto enable whenever I turn my truck on but that's about it.

"Budget" headset that sounds great
on October 15, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
I've used quite a few headsets in my time and this one is a decent entry level option for those not looking to break the bank on a headset.
I've used headsets from Astro/Logitech/Razer/etc. and I found this one to be pretty comparable to the budget friendly options from each of the other manufacturers. Normally, or recently, I've been rocking my Astro A40s. I'm a PC gamer so using wired headsets isn't a real issue for me.
These fit pretty well. There is a slight pinch at the top of the band for me. I have a big head so this is somewhat common for me. For the "average" gamer, I don't think they'll have this issue. Sound quality is quite good. No ANC on these but still get decent enough sound from these headsets that any gamer should enjoy. As far as thge mic goes, didn't have any issues with sound there. Teammates didn't complain my voice was too low/high or anything like that.
Overall, great sounding headset without breaking the bank. Budget friendly headset that sounds good. What more can you ask for?

Outstanding portable projector for home/office use
on October 15, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
I've had a couple projectors over the past few years and I find these to be a great alternative to large screen TVs. While I still have and use big TVs, these projectors have find a nice use case in my house.
As far as the projector goes, the quality is great. For something that comes in such a small package, this really has some great picture quality. The size of this projector is worth noting as it's about the size book. It's not very big and doesn't weigh a lot so this is very much portable if need be. As such it can be mounted as well for that clean look in your home theater system. It's wireless too so no need to clutter your space with added cables if not needed. You are able to stream using the remote and the Netflix., GoogleTV, YouTube apps. Whether it's something you want to stream or present, this little thing can do it all.
That said, on top of all these features, you get really solid 4k quality. With some projectors, I've run into issue where the field of view is a bit off causing your display to get askew. No such issues with this one. Regardless of the position, the projector casts a clear, bright picture is hi def.

Lightweight and precise
on October 2, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
I've been able to try out a few gaming mouse and this one has probably been the lightest one I've used so far. I know some people prefer heavier mice but if you prefer the lightweight option, this is one to check out.
With any gaming mouse, you get the usual RGB and precise DPI adjustments you can make to them. This one is no different. With the downloadable software, you can make these adjustments as needed.
Probably the most notable feature on this mouse is the swappable batteries. Unlike most mice, you have a little hub where you connect the dongle and power supply into. This can be easily mounted somewhere out of sight if needed. Along with the connections, there is a slot for the secondary battery to charge. The rear of the mouse is where you plug in the battery. Having used wired/wireless mice, this is a pretty nice little feature to have. You can have your mouse always wireless without needing to charge it through the cable.
While it may not seem like a ground breaking feature, I find this quite convenient and allows for uninterrupted usage whether it be for gaming or normal use.

Good, basic all-in-one printer
on September 30, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
If you're in need of just a "basic" all-in-one printer then this should suit you just fine. Both the size and printing capabilities of this lend itself to be that printer you need to have around the house.
Pretty sure not everyone needs some super, heavy duty printer at home. Most people don't need a high DPI scanner or a printer that print 40PPM or anything like that. I think for most people, this printer will suffice for just about any of their needs.
Being an all-in-one, you get your standard printer/scanner/copier in a printer with a pretty small footprint. It doesn't take up a whole shelf or need its own cabinet or anything so it should fit just about anywhere. Operations are pretty simple as well. There's no huge touchscreen on this or oodles of buttons you need to memorize what they do. Connected to your PC/laptop, it's just a printer that operates like any other printer. It does have wireless printing so either using the HP app or AirPrint, you can print remotely without needing it to be even hooked up to a PC.
Ink cartridges are reasonably priced. There's only a black and color cartridge and they have decent print yields on them. I'm sure if you got reconditioned or 3rd party cartridges, they could be cheaper too. Print quality is pretty on par with most other HP printers in this class so there's no issue with that I don't think.
If you just need a printer to have, just in case you need to print something every now and then....or if you're a student then this printer would probably be perfect for you. It's pretty inexpensive as is the cartridges so it won't be a huge investment. Quality across the board is pretty good in all functions.

Excellent laptop for everyday use
By LouRevue from Washington, DC
Having had the chance to use this laptop, I must say it’s quite an impressive model for almostn any use. With an abundance of features housed in a sleek, stylish body, it’s a solid laptop for anyone in the market for a new/replacement laptop.
Using a 7th gen i5 dual core processor, the laptop functions on par with just about any laptop in its price range. With 8GB of RAM (12GB max) and a 1TB hard drive, it offers plenty of speed and room for all your files and enough power/speed to perform almost any task.
As far as the aesthetics go, this is an impressive looking laptop with clean lines, brushed aluminum cover and beveled edges. It’s a very nice looking laptop no doubt and the design, overall, is quite appealing. It comes with a full size keyboard as well as backlit keys which is a nice touch. Only gripe with the keyboard are the arrow buttons as the Up/Down buttons are smaller due to keyboard layout. The power button is on the right side of the laptop which is a bit unique as well as a dedicated volume button. There are 2 USB 3.0 ports as well as 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI, SD Card and USB-C port. There is no CD drive for anyone wondering. The laptop (closed) is only about ¾ inch tall however it’s a bit wider than most due to the full size keyboard.
Power/performance. Using a dual-core processor I was under the impression this would be relatively slow and have choppy performance when opening multiple programs. Being this is the latest gen processor from Intel, this is not the case. Opening 2-3 programs at once was done with relative ease and switching between them was pretty flawless. The 8GB RAM comes in quite handy here and even with a 5400 RPM HDD, this laptop was able to perform tasks with very good speed. Battery life is pretty good. Using it “normally” and leaving it on for about 5-6 hours, there was about 50% battery left. Also, one very noteworthy benefit to this laptop, it doesn’t get that hot when left on for long periods of time which is VERY nice.
The display is probably the most impressive feature on here. A full 1080p display is quite vibrant and displays bright and dark colors extremely well. Those wanting to watch Netflix/Hulu will have no issues with the display. In addition to visuals, the sound from this laptop is equally impressive. For watching movies or just playing music, the speakers on this laptop deliver quite nicely without too much reverberation or distorted sound.
One of my initial thoughts of this being a 2-in-1 was that the tablet was an afterthought/gimmick. Having used previous 2-in-1 laptops, I was expecting the tablet functionality to be quite lackluster. Again, this was not the case. In this unit, you have, both, a well built laptop as well as tablet on-the-go device. Once in tablet mode, the screen orients itself to that of a normal tablet using Windows Tiles. Touch sensitivity is surprisingly smooth and using paint programs worked well without any lag or drops in sensitivity. Using the tablet form works really well when you want to sit back and watch videos or movies. Very nice.
A couple concerns with this laptop were;
The hard drive. While it’s a large 1TB drive, I would’ve expected something, at least, in the 7200 RPM range. Being fast enough for normal business related tasks, anyone wanting to use this laptop for video editing or other processor intensive jobs might find it to be a bit slow. This can easily be remedied by replacing the HD for a faster spindle drive or a SSD. However it would’ve been nice to have a tad faster hard drive here.
The keyboard, for me, took a bit getting used to since I have previously used standard laptop keyboards without the number pad. This is a personal preference so nothing against the design. Just noting that those of you used to that type of laptop keyboard, there will be a bit of learning curve involved however I think the addition of the number pad is great thing and should be standard on all laptops.
While the brushed aluminum case is aesthetically appealing, I’m a little concerned about it getting scratched/dinged from normal use or if when you’re changing it to be used as a tablet. This is the case with some laptops that use this metal casing so just something to be aware of.
Overall, this is an impressive laptop, reasonably priced with enough up-to-date technology that will last you for several years to come. Being that it’s a 2-in-1, it’s an added bonus which allows you to use this device in ways you should be able to do and with relative ease. There is some bloatware included (this should be no surprise) so make sure to uninstall/delete the stuff you don’t need. Aside from a somewhat slow hard drive, the other features on this laptop more than make up for it. Very nice buy for a new work laptop or student.

It took a bit of time to setup my laptop as well. Have you tried uninstalling the bloatware on this laptop? I did and I don't have any issues with boot speed or anything else on my laptop.

Can an owner of the original non active 65t comment on the fit and stability difference with the active version? Curious if that and the extra IP rating is worth a look, or negligible.

I own both the active and regular 65T's and I don't see any noticeable difference between them. Aside from the IP rating, there's really not much difference. Both fit exactly the same and fit pretty snugly in the ear.

Brighten your day and night with this Philips Being Hue ceiling light. The dimming function lets you set an ambience for different moods, and it works with the Philips Hue dimmer switch and mobile app for versatile control. The ZigBee technology of this 32W Philips Being Hue ceiling lamp provides smooth, efficient interoperability with multiple Hue lighting units.

Can this light be controlled by a existing wired wall switch? I plan to replace the light that is already there with this one, but I would prefer to use the wired switch.

Yes you can...that's what I did. One thing to note is that the light won't come on immediately like your current light fixture does. There's a second or two delay after you flip the switch. I'm planning on replacing the switch with a dimmer switch so maybe that will correct the delay.
