Decent sound from budget earbuds
on June 16, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
Pretty decent sound from these earbuds. They're relatively inexpensive (compared to others out there) and provide good sound quality for not that much money.
I've used numerous earbuds in my time and price is always the big thing with these. New ones comes out all the time so putting in some money for decent buds can be a pain sometimes. While these aren't your high end brand, these are no slouch when it comes to sound quality vs $$$.
Like most other earbuds, you get some different sized tips (only two sizes with these) as well as the charging cable. The earbuds are comfortable and don't slip out too easily but fit snug enough.
With regards to the sound. Not quite as bass heavy as I like but that's a personal preference. Good mids and highs with these so sound quality is pretty clear. Bass could be a bit more but, again, that's a personal preference.
Charge time seems pretty good although I haven't been able to use them from fully charged to empty. With these buds + case, you should have no issues with battery life over the course of a day.

Different use case, but still quite nice.
on June 9, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
Keyboard cases are pretty much a "must-have" if you have the larger iPad. Yes it's great for content viewing but with the additional screen size, it'd be almost criminal not to utilize the iPad for work purposes as well.
The Apple Keyboard is nice however it's quite pricey and somewhat limiting in its uses. Several other manufacturers have come out with their own keyboard cases but Logitech seemed to pull ahead in this race with their Combo Touch case. I'm a huge fan of that case and think it's still the best keyboard case option out there, however, with their latest product, the Flip Folio, it adds a different twist to the "standard" key board case.
Firstly, the Flip Folio has a stand alone keyboard which is not directly attached to the case. You have the iPad in the stand case where you can put it into the best viewing position for you and then the keyboard (connects via Bluetooth) can be used anywhere. This enables you a little more freedom in terms of how/where you use your iPad now as you're no longer "required" to be physically connected to it. You can mount the iPad higher up on your workstation and have your keyboard lower or however you wish to setup your iPad.
The keyboard is super lightweight and connects (magnetically) to the case when not in use. You have to put the keys face down on the case to attach. The keyboard has several hot keys that enable you to use the iPad (almost) touch free.
However, with this keyboard style, there are some setbacks. The biggest pro for me with the Combo Touch case was there was a touchpad. You could use that keyboard setup without ever needing to touch the iPad screen. This Flip Folio doesn't have a touchpad. You still need to touch the screen to launch apps or what not. For some, this might be an issue as it was with me. Others, depending on your work, may not feel this is a con. You can bypass this by using a Bluetooth mouse but I feel that just adds extra weight/clutter to this setup.
I think this case depends on your use case for it. For me, the Combo Touch is still the king. It works both for leisure and productivity uses. The Flip Folio, I think, would be better suited to someone who's more data entry oriented or keyboard heavy user like a writer or coder. In that sense, this case makes a better use case for them since they're mostly heads down writing code or maybe editing a document.
That said, I think this is great new product that's sure to be a hit. Again, my preference is for the Combo Touch case but this one also is a solid choice for a keyboard case.

Decent, all-around laptop for light duty use/tasks
on May 27, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
I've used a number of laptops in my day but the ones I've usually stayed away from were Chromebooks. Usually, these things came with Celeron chips making them really slow and laggy. Almost wasn't worth the effort in using them since they were so slow to do even basic tasks. But, with this one it's a bit different and in a better way.
For starters, this laptop is probably best suited for a student or light duty user. While this laptop has some nice hardware to it, it's not really designed for mid/heavy duty type tasks.
14" screen size is nice and compact/. It's FHD so it's clear enough for just about anyone's needs whether it be YouTube, Netflix or general word processing type tasks.
This one has a Intel i3 chip so it's much better than the usual Celeron chips I've previously used before. Again, light \ tasks are handled pretty well and there's no lag like with Celeron processors.
128GB drive and LPDDR5 RAM round out the specs on this which makes this laptop perform quite well in most day to day tasks.
A couple drawbacks (maybe) are that the "hard drive" on this is eMMC. While it's fast enough, or faster than your older disc drives, it's not replaceable or upgradeable. Also, the RAM is great for this laptop as it's geared for lower power usage but, again, not replaceable or upgradeable. If you're wanting to keep this as a long term laptop where you can upgrade some components then this one definitely isn't for you. But, right out of the box, it works well and it suitable for just about any user.

Perfect for the man cave
on May 20, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
Probably one of the cooler tech devices out there. This is way above and beyond the normal mini hoop set you got from the toy store in years past. This is the updated version which gives you a better shooting experience with the addition of apps and streaming. No more using a cheap foam ball and plastic hoop. With this, those days are long gone. This update to the old classic has a metal rim, inflatable rubber ball and a TV screen to boot.
The biggest attraction with this is the hoop itself. It's a "smart" screen with built in WiFi and internet connectivity. On top of just shooting hoops, you can stream TV while you play. You get the standard NetFlix, YouTube, Disney type channels so you can thoroughly entertain yourself while shooting hoops in your living room. On top of that you have the ability to play with people anywhere with the additional apps within the UI. Think of it like the App Store but with a basketball hoop.
Yes, there is a pay-to-play aspect to this so it's up to you what you want to use. Using it as-is is great too from just shooting hoops or streaming YouTube or something.
The unit is pretty hefty so make sure all the mounts are tightened properly. While you can use it on any door, I find that using this in a larger room, like a living room, works best since it allows you to have room to move and shoot properly.
That said, great little piece to add to the man cave, or dorm room, to pass the time.

Finally....whole house coverage
on May 10, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
Like most people, the wifi in my place is somewhat spotty. There's always that one place or space where the wifi signal just doesn't reach or isn't quite as fast as other places in the house. Having recently upgraded to gigagbit internet, I wanted to make sure, this time, my wifi would be on point wherever I am in my place.
For me, it was the bedroom where my signal would die out for some reason. As soon as I turned the corner into my bedroom, the wifi signal would get super weak and almost unusable. I previously "resolved" this issue by getting another router and then laying out 100ft of ethernet cable to my bedroom from the main router and hooking it up in there. It worked but was super ugly and not really ideal.
This mesh wifi system is the perfect solution to my problem and it works beautifully. I placed the routers in my bedroom, living room and upstairs to get better coverage. Simple and easy enough to hook everything up. Once connected to the main router and configured, I'm getting speeds of 600-800Mbps everywhere in my place now. While it's just a wifi signal, it's such a nice feeling knowing that I have coverage in my place and speeds to boot.

Pretty decent mousepad for gamers.
on April 30, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
Hard to say what's the difference between a "gaming" mousepad and a regular one. With most mice being laser and not the age old ball mouse, a mousepad should just be a mousepad right? Well, yes and no.
Lot of marketing around "gaming" accessories and especially with mousepads I see. For a good mousepad, what it really boils down to is the density of the mousepad foam and the texture of the surface that really make the difference. Most mousepads are your typical cheap foam ones that work. For gamers though, every little extra bit helps I say.
For these mousepads, the main difference between the Speed, Control, Balance ones are the surface of the pad that allows you the different preferences here. The slicker surface allows for faster speed and the control one has a bit more textured surface area.
I chose the balanced one as I do gaming and work on my PC. Having either the speed or control one might've been better for gaming purposes but I was looking for an all-around fabric for my needs. I feel that it works pretty well for gaming and perusing spreadsheets equally.

Made for active content creators

I've had a GoPro 8 for the longest time and enjoyed using it. Back when I used to snowboard, it was a great little camera to put on and capture my rides (and tumbles) down the mountainside. Seeing these 360 cameras out, I thought these would be even cooler to use for sports moreso than the regular GoPro.
While I haven't been able to hit the slopes with this yet, I'm learning how to use this effectively/properly so that when I do hit the slopes again, I'll be ready for some really cool content to share.
To be honest, the biggest learning curve for me is with the software since it's not your typical video editor using "normal" videos. Learning how to "splice" the dual video files can be a little tricky at first but I think I'm getting the hang of it.
Battery life has been pretty good so far. I've been using it off and on for about a week now and it's still around 70ish percent. I am probably going to get a larger SDHC card for mine. Mine came with a 32GB one but I'm thinking a 128GB should be a good size for me.
So now I'm thinking of some different activities to participate in where I can use this. It being Spring/Summer now I think I might take up some wake boarding or something. This is a really cool update to the normal GoPro and the results (so far) have been really promising.

Nifty little accessory
on April 28, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
I was never one for these PopSockets since I never really had a use for them. I use an iPhone 16 Pro Max but don't really feel that it's too big for my hand. However, I bought another phone that's smaller and found out that these PopSockets really help me with those.
I bought a RAZR as a secondary phone. Cool phone but much smaller than my iPhone. As such, I have a little harder time using/holding it due to it's smaller size and folding screen. I put this PopSocket on there and it's much better now for me.
The usual PopSockets I've seen were either stick on or part of a case. Never really trusted the stick on ones and never bought any case that had one incorporated into it. I liked that this can work with either a Magsafe case or any other case since it included an extra ring in the box. I put the ring on my RAZR case and it's pretty low profile and useful. With the PopSocket on my case, I find it much easier to use one-handed for both flipping the phone open as well as using it normally. With the RAZR's second screen, having this PopSocket on there makes using that screen a breeze now.
My opinions on these things has changed for sure and I do find them quite useful.

Phenomenal sound from such a tiny speaker
on April 13, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
I'll be honest, I've been a big fan of Sony audio products for quite some time now. From their wireless earbuds, over-the-ear headphones and even their wired earbuds, they've all produced the sound I'm looking for from my audio and have yet to disappoint. That said, with this speaker, their tradition of great sound continues now from a portable bluetooth speaker.
Sure, there's tons of bluetooth speakers out there from a variety of brands but this is a really nice one. The sound from this is both rich and deep so you can play any type of music you want and still get great sound from this speaker.
The speaker itself is fairly small. It's a little over a foot long and about 5 inches wide. You can easily tote this around to the beach or park or even in your living room. It is a bit hefty though I'll say. I was a bit shocked at how heavy this thing was considering its small size. Even still, it's nothing too heavy that would prevent you from toting this around to your next gathering or party.
The sound from this thing is fantastic. I listen to mostly EDM so I like those thumping beats and crisp highs. This speaker picks up all of them and it's crystal clear and the bass really kicks with this one. There's an Ultra 1 and Ultra 2 setting to use depending on the music you listen to. Ultra 1 is more boomy bass while Ultra 2 is more for punchy bass. Either way you can't go wrong if you like heavy bass. The speakers on both ends have some RGB so it'll look nice when the beat kicks and you get a little RGB show with it. It's nothing gaudy but just enough to give that extra little bit of ambience.
And as far as toting this thing around, it's water, dust and even rust proof so you won't have to worry about the elements damaging this speaker. It comes with a USB-C charging cable (could be a bit longer) as well as a carrying strap. There's also a companion smartphone app as well where you can control it wirelessly and play straight from your phone.
Overall, I really like this speaker. It's small enough for a room/dorm but provides a sound experience almost as if you had a speaker system. Battery life seems pretty good on this so no complaints there. Really, just a fantastic little speaker from Sony.

Decent, mid range gaming headset
on April 11, 2025
Posted by: LouRevue
For this in the market for a decent gaming headset without breaking the bank, the Void fills that role quite nicely and for a decent price.
I've used a number of different gaming headsets from Astro, Alienware, Logitech and Steel Series. Some are really great but usually come with steep price tags while others have been so-so at best; also sometimes with steep price tags. But the Void works great in that it's relatively inexpensive and wireless which is a nice bonus.
Sound wise, this is decent. Not the greatest sounding headset I've used but also not the worst. Sound is clear and bass comes through OK.
Fit wise, it's a tad tight for me but I have a large head so I'm sorta used to that. It fits OK but I find it uncomfortable during long gaming sessions. For reference, I wear a 7 1/2 fitted cap.
There is a small bit of RGB on the headset but not much. You can control it through their iCue system to get all the pretty colors and such.
Overall, a decent and affordable gaming headset with decent performance.

Excellent laptop for everyday use
By LouRevue from Washington, DC
Having had the chance to use this laptop, I must say it’s quite an impressive model for almostn any use. With an abundance of features housed in a sleek, stylish body, it’s a solid laptop for anyone in the market for a new/replacement laptop.
Using a 7th gen i5 dual core processor, the laptop functions on par with just about any laptop in its price range. With 8GB of RAM (12GB max) and a 1TB hard drive, it offers plenty of speed and room for all your files and enough power/speed to perform almost any task.
As far as the aesthetics go, this is an impressive looking laptop with clean lines, brushed aluminum cover and beveled edges. It’s a very nice looking laptop no doubt and the design, overall, is quite appealing. It comes with a full size keyboard as well as backlit keys which is a nice touch. Only gripe with the keyboard are the arrow buttons as the Up/Down buttons are smaller due to keyboard layout. The power button is on the right side of the laptop which is a bit unique as well as a dedicated volume button. There are 2 USB 3.0 ports as well as 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI, SD Card and USB-C port. There is no CD drive for anyone wondering. The laptop (closed) is only about ¾ inch tall however it’s a bit wider than most due to the full size keyboard.
Power/performance. Using a dual-core processor I was under the impression this would be relatively slow and have choppy performance when opening multiple programs. Being this is the latest gen processor from Intel, this is not the case. Opening 2-3 programs at once was done with relative ease and switching between them was pretty flawless. The 8GB RAM comes in quite handy here and even with a 5400 RPM HDD, this laptop was able to perform tasks with very good speed. Battery life is pretty good. Using it “normally” and leaving it on for about 5-6 hours, there was about 50% battery left. Also, one very noteworthy benefit to this laptop, it doesn’t get that hot when left on for long periods of time which is VERY nice.
The display is probably the most impressive feature on here. A full 1080p display is quite vibrant and displays bright and dark colors extremely well. Those wanting to watch Netflix/Hulu will have no issues with the display. In addition to visuals, the sound from this laptop is equally impressive. For watching movies or just playing music, the speakers on this laptop deliver quite nicely without too much reverberation or distorted sound.
One of my initial thoughts of this being a 2-in-1 was that the tablet was an afterthought/gimmick. Having used previous 2-in-1 laptops, I was expecting the tablet functionality to be quite lackluster. Again, this was not the case. In this unit, you have, both, a well built laptop as well as tablet on-the-go device. Once in tablet mode, the screen orients itself to that of a normal tablet using Windows Tiles. Touch sensitivity is surprisingly smooth and using paint programs worked well without any lag or drops in sensitivity. Using the tablet form works really well when you want to sit back and watch videos or movies. Very nice.
A couple concerns with this laptop were;
The hard drive. While it’s a large 1TB drive, I would’ve expected something, at least, in the 7200 RPM range. Being fast enough for normal business related tasks, anyone wanting to use this laptop for video editing or other processor intensive jobs might find it to be a bit slow. This can easily be remedied by replacing the HD for a faster spindle drive or a SSD. However it would’ve been nice to have a tad faster hard drive here.
The keyboard, for me, took a bit getting used to since I have previously used standard laptop keyboards without the number pad. This is a personal preference so nothing against the design. Just noting that those of you used to that type of laptop keyboard, there will be a bit of learning curve involved however I think the addition of the number pad is great thing and should be standard on all laptops.
While the brushed aluminum case is aesthetically appealing, I’m a little concerned about it getting scratched/dinged from normal use or if when you’re changing it to be used as a tablet. This is the case with some laptops that use this metal casing so just something to be aware of.
Overall, this is an impressive laptop, reasonably priced with enough up-to-date technology that will last you for several years to come. Being that it’s a 2-in-1, it’s an added bonus which allows you to use this device in ways you should be able to do and with relative ease. There is some bloatware included (this should be no surprise) so make sure to uninstall/delete the stuff you don’t need. Aside from a somewhat slow hard drive, the other features on this laptop more than make up for it. Very nice buy for a new work laptop or student.

Can an owner of the original non active 65t comment on the fit and stability difference with the active version? Curious if that and the extra IP rating is worth a look, or negligible.

I own both the active and regular 65T's and I don't see any noticeable difference between them. Aside from the IP rating, there's really not much difference. Both fit exactly the same and fit pretty snugly in the ear.

Brighten your day and night with this Philips Being Hue ceiling light. The dimming function lets you set an ambience for different moods, and it works with the Philips Hue dimmer switch and mobile app for versatile control. The ZigBee technology of this 32W Philips Being Hue ceiling lamp provides smooth, efficient interoperability with multiple Hue lighting units.

Can this light be controlled by a existing wired wall switch? I plan to replace the light that is already there with this one, but I would prefer to use the wired switch.

Yes you can...that's what I did. One thing to note is that the light won't come on immediately like your current light fixture does. There's a second or two delay after you flip the switch. I'm planning on replacing the switch with a dimmer switch so maybe that will correct the delay.
