Nice Little Espresso Machine With One Flaw
on April 7, 2023
Posted by: Posted1
Nice ittle Espresso Machine with one flaw... I'll get to that later.
This is my second experience with a Phillips Espresso Machine. A few years ago I recieved a great Phillips Saeco high end machine. It's been a very nice, reliable well used machine. This Phillips is essentially the little sibling to that and I expect to get the same number of years of service from this.
In the box you'll find the machine, the drip tray with float, catch system and manuals. Here-in lies the problem... The manual says after you put everything together and before you use the machine, you need to install the "Philips/Saeco AquaClean Filter". That would be fine, but there is no Philips/Saeco AquaClean Filter in the box. I understand that most companies produce manuals that support 2, 3 or 4 models whithin a "family" of products. And in this case, the manual seems to support tyhe 1200, 2200 and 3200 models. I am not sure, but I am assuming that perhas the 2200 and 3200 MIGHT include the filter. BUt it's frusturating that the part list included the filter. End of the day, this isn't a deal breaker; the machine can be used without the filter but the filter helps with the need to descale.
OK, once I realized there was no filter, I continued setup. Not much to do there. Ws up and running within 3 or 4 minutes from opening the box. Use is simple. It has 4 basic functions; Espresso, Coffe, Hot Water and Steam. Next it give you three sgtrength settins, three fill levels and options to descale and set filter. Pretty simple. The Steam option allows you to manually froth milk or cream.
End of the day, it does what it's supposed to do and it does it well. Would be an easy 5 Star rating were it not for the Philips/Saeco AquaClean Filter situation. I would suggest that a simple edit of the manual to say that the filter was NOT included would go a LONG way in brand ambassadorship.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent Speaker
on April 1, 2023
Posted by: Posted1
Excellent speaker. That really sums it up.
I am not new to the Sonos ecosystem. I found myself lucky enough to get a Sonos powered Sonance outdoor/maritime speakers set a couple years ago. So when the opportunity came up for this, I knew I would be getting a high quality unit with superior sound. And indeed I did.
First off, Sonos is a brand leader in the upper-end consumer accesible speakers. They do one thing (provide excellent sound quality) and they do it very well. In addition to providing great sound, they always deliver a very handsome package that fits into most environments and decor.
The new Sonos Era 300 is quite possibly one of the best sound-engineering designs available to mass consumers. They have included 2 subwoofers (left and right), 2 tweeters on either side and a center channel tweeter. They also included a unique upper firing tweeter that provides Dolby Atmos for directional sound. Pretty imressive design.
One unique design feature that Sonos includes in almost every speaker they make is in the interoperability among the Sonos family. To put it another way, you could take two of these speaker, combine it with one of their several soundbars and then put a couple Sonos One speakers into one ecosystem to get a truly immersive Dolby Atmos television experince. Or use the same speakers as a room filling music system. IN this case, the Era 300 also makes for an excellent stand alone speaker.
The lows are rich, accurate and smooth. The mids are crisp, clean and clear. The highs are perfectly delivered and clean in every way. In all, an excellent room-filling speaker in a relatively small foot-print.
The Sonos app is simple, solid and inclusive. Most all popular music services are supported and the integration is a natural transition into the Sonos app. You can also custom ize the EQ on the app if you have a preference for sound set up.
Controls are great on the device too. A "sliding" touch on top of the speaker for volume. Play/pause and FWD/BKW are also via touch on top. You can also turn off the microphone completely via a switch on the back.
End of the day, this is an excellent choice for almost any residence. I would whole-heartedly reccomend to a friend!

Fun Little Drone!
on March 27, 2023
Posted by: Posted1
First thoughts? Very cool drone, especially for the price!
In the manual, it highly reccomends that when you first fly with it, they highly reccomand you have an experienced pilot with you. That is excellent advice! Fortunately, my neighbor is a licensed commercial drone pilot. Having him there to tutar and advise was invaluable. If you can, plaese do.
In the box is the drone w/ battery pack, remote, USB cable, instructions AND spare blades, screws and screwdriver.
Set up was pretty easy. Charge drone and remote battery, install app, power on and the app tells you how to set up GPS and compass orientation. Pretty simple.
First flight was basic controls. Took some time, but practice makes perfect. The camera is pretty good quality and captures video and snapshots. A nice feature not often found on a drone this affordable was the pan and tilt of the camera. It worked great. Regarding video and pictures, there is a micre SD card slot on the drone. If you don't have the SD, it captures the video on your phone straight into your pictures folder.
Some nice features regarding the GPS is that it has a "Home" button. We tested it a couple times and both times it returned to within about 2 feet of where it took off. It also has a heigth limit and will not go any higher than that. Keeps you from losing radio connection.
End of the day, my heighbor (and his thousands of hours experience) said it was a great drone, especially for the price. I woud (and have) reccomend this to a friend.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Choice If You Have Need
on December 29, 2022

Lexie Hearing - Lexie Lumen OTC Hearing Aids: An excellent choice if you need them.
So my dad is living with us for a year or so after losing my mom unexpectedly. The wife and I {along with my brother and other family members) have noted for YEARS that his hearing has been getting progressively worse. After living with us for as long as he had, it was blatantly obvious to EVERYONE that his hearing was rapidly depleteing.
Unfortunately, he continually denied it. Even though both of his brothers and 2 of 3 of nephews have worn hearing aids for years, he simply denied it.
Well, we finally had the difficult conversation and he agreed that we were probably right... When I gave him the chance to look over these and read the Best Buy tech spec's he agreed to try them out. I can tell you, he is glad he did!
He is much more connected in coversations, more aware of things happening around him AND he has turned the TV volume down significantly.
After downloading the app, set up was pretty easy. We had him going in a fairly short time. The app was easy to use and laid out very well. As for comfort, he has worn them for hours at a time and had no complaints, at least after a couple days to "burn them in". He has used them in multipe social settings, while driving, at a Colorado Avalanche game, skiing. All with no problems.
These are a high-end medical device and I would whole-heartedly reccomend them to a friend!

Very Good Device
on December 17, 2022
Posted by: Posted1
OK, let me start by saying I am an Android/Windows guy while my wife is an Apple kind of gal so when I had the opportunity to get this j5create - 4K60 Elite Pro USB4 Hub with MagSafe Kit, she was really excited.
After using it for a few days, she is happy with ij5create. She had been looking for a hub for quite some time and even tried a couple options and none of them really brought her what she needed. With this one, it seems to not only do what the Macbook stock ports seem to lack, but it does it very well.
Packaging was good, and had a quality feel. Opening was simple. Some items are either flimsy in packaging or have a cheap feel. Opening was simple, set-up is (of course) simple and she was using it from opening box to full use in just a couple minutes. It's a plug-and-play device so no need to download any software.
End of the day, if you are in the market for an Apple compatible USB hub, the j5create - 4K60 Elite Pro USB4 Hub with MagSafe is an excellent choice.
I would (and have) reccomend this to a friend.

Nice choice
on December 2, 2022
Posted by: Posted1
Great choice!
Swann has been in the home security and monitoring field for quite some time. I have had the experience of dabbling with various platforms in the past and have never been disappointed. This outdoor floodlight 4K surveillance camera is no exception.
Right out of the box, this has a decent quality feel to it. It came packaged well and was easy to open and unpackage.
Installation, while simple for some, may be deemed to complex or beyond others expected capacities. It is a hardwired unit so ONLY proceed with self installation if you are comfortable enough. If you ahve any concerns, I highly encourage you to hire a qualified electrician or ask an experienced friend to help you out.
Basicaly shut off power to that breaker, remove the existing lighting unit, re-wire this unit back in, mount it, turn power back on and you are off and running.
Next, download the app and connect to your network and you will see you have several options to customize the light and monitored zones.
I have the Google Nest unit on the garage side of my house and I placed this on the detached garage. I honestly see little difference in either quality or brightness of lights nor motion sensing.
This is a great option, especially if you are already in the Swann ecosystem
And if not, Swann is an excellent place to start!

Great Choice!
on November 15, 2022

Great choice...
When I received the offer for this McAfee Premium Individual, I was happy to accept the offer. I have had McAfee products in the past and always found them to be solid. They have always delivered as promised... This is no different.
Set up was simple. Go to the linked website, enter the code, download the software, open an account and boom, you are off and running. Interface is clean, intuitive and simple. Seems to run relatively lightly in the background.
Some of the primary items it provides is antivirus and tracker removal. These are (I know, I am stating the obvious) quite important options to have in today's on-line environment. How well do they work? Well, so far so good. And based on McAfee's reputation, I expect them to be competitive to other popular offerings.
Another nice option is the built in VPN. While I normally use Surfshark VPN, I decided to try this for a few days and it seems to work just as well. Nice offering.
Some other items this has is ID Protection and Personal Data Cleanup. I have other products I use but if I am going to go on reputation alone, I would say that this product is certainly on par with it's cometitors.
End of the day, this is a solid choice and I would recommend it.

Decent But Some Improvements Needed
on November 15, 2022
Posted by: Posted1
So here's the deal... This is a bit of a difficult product to review, at least based on efficacy, because in all honesty, I hope I never need to find out how effective it is! I'd rather NOT have my identity stolen!
That said, I'll start with set-up... I'm not going to lie, the setup was a little frustrating. Over the years, I have had several iterations of both Norton products and Lifelock products. Well, after trying to sign up with a number of legacy Email addresses. Apparently, this product is designed for new users only. Not a huge deal, I just created another Email account and tried to log in. All should be good right? Nope, the code was associated with the legacy Email I signed up for. Circular firing squad.
Having received this from the Best Buy Technical Insider Network program, I was able to contact a support team at Norton who was able to re-assign the code to my new account.
Once I had it set up, it was pretty straight forward. The other minor frustration I had was that there is a lot of bouncing back and forth between the app and browser. For example, you click on a function in the app and it opens a web-browser. Kind'a frusturating.
End of the day, I'm sure it does what it does well and I'll close where I opened... I hope I never find out!

Decent Choice In A Crowded Field
on October 31, 2022
Posted by: Posted1
Decent choice in a crowded field...
First impressions, this has a nice quality feel. On opening box, you'll find the primary unit, battery pack, charging cable and basic ubiquitous documentation. Charging the unit is ultra-simple; just slide the battery pack on the head unit and that's that. Standard USB C cable to charge the battery pack. One cool feature is that both the unit AND the battery pack are water proof. I have spent hours in our pool and hot tub with booth just the unit AND the battery pack completely submerged and it was 100%.
Set-up was simple... DL the app, create your account, sign up and synch the unit. Simple. **IMPORTANT NOTE** The longer you use it, the more accurate and relevant info you'll get. When the offer first came in via the TIN program, they asked that we use it for 30 to 40 days prior to review. That makes complete sense given that it "learns" over time and tracks accordingly.
As far as what it tracks, pretty much activity, strain, recovery and sleep. In sleep mode it tracks your o2 saturation which is helpful, but I whished it allowed you to check o2 sat at your leisure. After 30+ days of use, I have not been able to see that it allows that. It also offers HR, temp, and in sleep mode, all of that in addition to HRV, resting HR and resp rate.
The unit does have auto-detect for activities. After 15 minutes of continuous activity, it detects and starts tracking. You can also do this manually, but I have found the auto detect to be accurate so rarely any need.
End of the day, it does what it does very well, but does it do enough? Very subjective question, but for me, I do wish it allowed you to check o2 sat levels on demand, offered daly o2 sat level's [not just while sleeping] and it oddly does not offer a daily step tracker. Seems like a pretty basic 101 feature but oddly absent. Also the expense... The hardware is "no-charge" with the subscription, but that subscription does get pricey, especially over time.
I will end where I began; It does what it does pretty well, but there are a few missing features and let's face it, there are LOTS of competitors that stand out in the field. That said, will I wear it while my subscription is active? Of course. Will I renew? Not sure yet.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Almost Perfect... Almost..
on October 27, 2022
Posted by: Posted1
Initial thoughts... Very nice buds, but are they really able to compete with Apple AirPods Pro?
In order to answer that, I must first set the stage by saying that this a subjective opinion and while others may agree, certainly others will disagree. I find this to be especially true when comparing ANYTHING to Apple since Apple has such a loyal following.
End of the day, for me, yes, these absolutely compete with [and in many area's] beat the AirPods. My wife has her goofy Apple Eco-system and she is the first to disagree [of course] with me, but that is in my opinion because anything outside of her Apple-world is also out of her comfort zone.
One of the nicest features these Soundcore has is the ability to switch between ANC [Active Noise Cancellation]. I was amazed when switching from "Transparency Mode", or "Normal" mode to ANC, the gym we go to just disappeared from a sound standpoint. The echo in the locker room, the ever present gym overhead music and the buzz of conversations, almost 100% gone. Walking through the gym, same... Impressive. Watching "The Sopranos" while on the elliptical was great! No background noise and the sound was impressive. The placement of the sounds as compared to the screen was great. Compete with Apple? Absolutely! Beat Apple? I say yes, the wife says no. But me being an Android guy, I'll take Soundcore all day long.
As for music, again, these are an excellent choice! Powerful bass, smooth midrange and evenly delivered highs. Listening to Slipknot's "Yen" was a new experience. The fade in had great placement and movement, the bridge, being delivered in stereo and moving bassline L to R, the multi-layered textured guitars... These took an already excellent song to other-worldly. Same with several other Slipknot, 5FDP, Meshuggah, Korn and A7X songs.
As a former professional guitarist, I had to listen to Polyphia. Wow! "G.O.A.T" was just stunning. The bass was so punchy, and again, the multi-layered, dissonant guitars moving in stereo, ANC isolated to the soundstage of your skull... Fantastic.
The case is nice, clean, solid and simple. Holds plenty of charge for more than a few 1.5 hour treks to the gym. The buds are snapped into place by a positive magnet. I will say the Apple's may have a slightly higher quality "feel", but I wouldn't justify the additional cost to be in-line with the perceived "feel".
The app, was clean, simple, and well layed out. You can easily change modes between ANC, Normal And Transparency. Transparency is a GREAT choice if you are out for a ride or a jog or a walk... You can still enjoy your music while also being well aware of what is going on around you. Great feature.
With the app, you can also change EQ/listening modes. Kind of a cool feature but most people will probably find their favorite and leave it there.
These also do offer heart rate monitoring. Again, kind of cool, but for me, not really needed. I already have a fitness tracker that does that but for what it's worth, these are just as accurate.
I also like the fact that if you are listening and want to chat with someone, you can pull out a bud and it will pause playback.
As for the "Almost Perfect"... I'm not a small guy. The largest silicone cups they have are right on the verge of being too small for me. I understand that is on me, not Soundcore, but it would be nice if they offered a larger size. While doing cardio and weights with a bit of a sweat, they are just on the verge of feeling like they are falling out. I am constantly having to push them in.
Other than that, these are a fantastic choice. And if you have an Apple-snooty spouse, great choice to flex on their buds ;).
I would recommend this to a friend!
