A great upgrade at a decent pricepoint

The Crucial MX500 SSD is a great product in a small package and can serve many needs. For my purpose, I wasn’t seeking a replacement for my main hard drive. The reason is my current solution has my OS on a NVMe/PCIe SSD. It’s faster than the SATA makeup of this one. With that being said, it doesn’t disappoint though.
My secondary drive was a standard SATA HDD and this Crucial MX500 SSD is a great upgrade. It allowed me to stock more games and programs on a faster solution. I didn’t record the time it took things to open, but it clearly opens things a lot quicker than before. To get to this point, the process was pretty easy once I had everything I needed. Crucial supplies an Acronis cloning tool that is pretty straightforward to use. Before you use it though, you need to find a way to connect the SSD to the computer to transfer the data. The directions call for an USB-to-SATA cable and that is an additional purchase that needs to be made. The software is free though.
Once you finish the easy steps to set it up, you are good to go. You just need to find a free slot in your computer and connect it for use. Personally, it had been a long time since I set up a hard drive and this was the easy thing I needed to get to where I wanted to be. I look forward to extending the life and performance of my system for quite some time. If anyone is using a SATA HDD, then I think they would truly benefit upgrading to the Crucial MX500 SSD. It’s very affordable and easy to set up.

A Nice Ergonomic Option For Any Office
on January 18, 2021
Posted by: Evolved1
from Naperville, IL
The Logitech ERGO M575 Wireless Trackball Mouse with Smooth Tracking is a nice change of pace in office for various reasons. Before we get into more, let’s talk about what’s in the box and the setup. Inside the box, you will find the mouse and some simple instructions. Within the mouse, you will find a USB dongle and a AA battery. To complete the setup, you can either attach the USB dongle to the computer or push the button on the bottom for a Bluetooth connection. I decided to go with the Bluetooth connection and it went smooth.
As someone who spends a lot of time in the office, it’s important that things are comfortable and stay that way for long periods of time. Within the last year, I discovered that the standard mouse started to create forearm and elbow issues. Here’s where the ERGO M575 comes in to help things out. The tilt and elevation of the mouse helps to alleviate fatigue and strain on the arm and hand. While this model isn’t as pronounced, it still sets the hand placement at a good position. To go along with that, the added feature of a trackball helps out too. It may take a little time to get used to the thumb trackball, but it’s smooth and works well. The response time is great. Plus I can keep my arm in one place and not have to worry about deskspace either.
All in all, the Logitech ERGO M575 is a great selection for someone looking to improve the ergonomics of their desk or has limited space. With the option of simple connections, it doesn’t get any easier to set up and use right away either.

Great for all gaming needs
on November 6, 2020
Posted by: Evolved1

The Dell S2721NX is a great monitor that’s a great start for those building their gaming station. Why do I say that? This monitor could be good for those with a gaming PC or even console. The dual HDMI ports could easily allow you to do both with a simple toggle of the input. There is even an audio line out on the back to give you options for your sound.
That’s the simple plain truth. Now, let me get into the details. The Dell S2721NX has a thin, sleek bezel that will compliment whatever use you have for it. The screen provides an exceptional 1920x1080 Full HD Resolution. There is a key change to make here to get the full experience though. I noticed it was set to a Ultra HD 1920x1080 with a 60Hz refresh rate. By going into the display settings, you can change this to a 75Hz refresh rate. It’s a little annoying to do that, but not the worst thing in the world. A lot of people won’t notice the difference there, but gamers will. Gamers will also want to tweak the colors a bit, but the default is really good from the start.
Continuing with the physical appearance, the stand is just okay. I prefer ones that tilt, swivel and allow for up and down adjustments. However, this one doesn’t do that. One plus is that this unit won’t take up a ton of desk space. Speaking of saving space, that leads me to my next perk. I had a triple monitor mount with an arm ready for it. Adding the VESA bracket was a breeze and it looks great next to the others. I have had some monitors that have required special spacers or bolts and this one worked with all of the standard setup pieces.
Ultimately, this monitor is a great pick up for your computing and gaming needs. I think it can be very versatile. Also, it comes with everything you need right out of the box. There’s no need for extra cable purchases or anything. That’s always a big plus.

A Great Solution To Do Two Jobs With One Effort
on November 4, 2020
Posted by: Evolved1
from Naperville, IL
The Tineco FloorOne S3 Wet Dry Vacuum is a great addition to any house. We are a household with active kids and a dog. They are all constantly running in and out of the house. With that being the case, our tile-floored mudroom and hardwood lower level are constantly dirty. Well, that’s where the Tineco FloorOne S3 comes in handy.
For years, I have been trying to find the best method to clean our floors. The majority of the time, I spent double the effort vacuuming or sweeping the floors before mopping them. If you’re talking about the hardwood floor, there’s even the third step of polishing it. Well, this allows me to cut that time in half at minimum because I can now vacuum and mop at the same time.
The instructions were pretty simple on how to put the vacuum together and then set it up with the water and cleaning solution. I know it’s part of the business model, but I do wish I wasn’t restricted to just their solution. There are other natural alternatives that I like to use, but the directions state that anything else could damage it. I am not willing to take that chance because of how well this does its job. Some have mentioned something that I noticed as well. The vacuum may not get all the way to the wall. I didn’t notice it doing it everywhere, but I did see it in a few spots. It’s not awful, but it would be nice to have that full coverage.
All in all, the Tineco FloorOne S3 did an amazing job on our hardwood and tile floors. I watched it take foot, shoe, and paw prints off the floors without a ton of effort. The sensors and the screen did a great job of showing me when it kicked into a higher gear to clean areas. The ability to manually kick that in is a bonus too. To go along with that feature, it has the voice interaction that let me know when the power level was changing, that there was a blockage of debris in the container, and that the battery was low and it needed to be charged. It also has a nice docking station that is convenient for charging and allowing the vacuum to dry and self-clean. I personally like the holders for the HEPA filter and the roller to get them all the air they need to dry out thoroughly. I look forward to using it again and again...AND teaching the kids to use it too. Now they can’t complain about two jobs because one thing can do it all!

Simple can be GREAT!

It doesn’t get any easier than this Crock-Pot. Simply put, add your ingredients and hit the button. Obviously, there’s a little more to this slow cooker. For our family, we are always looking to get things done while we are busy. This is the perfect addition to our kitchen to do that.
Our first meal was a shredded barbecue chicken. It was fantastic and simple to make. We added chicken breasts, bbq sauce, set the timer, and came back later to shred it. The kids devoured it and that’s the best review of anything that helps make food in the kitchen. Once we were done, the clean up was easy as well. Nothing stuck to the stoneware and everything came clean with minimal effort. Our second endeavor was homemade applesauce after a trip to the apple orchard. We peeled and cut the apples, added water and lemon juice, and then set the timer. It turned out wonderful and the family all enjoyed it. Once again, the clean up was a breeze. I was worried because the applesauce did crust a little toward the end of cooking, but it came right off.
As you can see, we made two nice things very easily. To go along with that, we were impressed with how light the slow cooker is compared to others. We’ve had a few over the years and they are beasts. It certainly makes it easier to travel when the unit is lighter. On top of that, let’s talk about the locking lid. While we haven’t had to travel with it yet, that is huge. We’ve been known to travel with chili or other slow cooker staples so it’s nice to know that we have this added safety measure.
There are a few things that I wish were a little better. The first was how short the cord is on the slow cooker. While we have ample outlets around our counter space, it would be nice to have some length to the cord for when we don’t have an outlet so close by. The second thing is that the lid does feel a little small or odd, but it seems to be remedied by locking the lid into place. It just would be nice to have that feeling without locking it. The last thing is that we were getting moisture under the handle on the lid. To ensure things didn’t turn bad, I had unscrewed the lid to make sure that area dried out. I don’t think that should be happening at all.
Ultimately, I think the Crock-Pot Cook & Carry Slow Cooker is a worthwhile addition to any kitchen. It’s simple to use and could be huge for people using it on the go. You have the ability to set and forget it on the kitchen counter or even take it tailgating. This unit has a lot to offer with such a simple design.

Great Feel, Functionality, & Sound
on October 1, 2020

from Naperville, IL
The Bose Sport Earbuds bring a lot of versatility to your listening pleasure. These are designed to help you take on your workouts and rigorous activities without having to deal with wires, worry about them getting sweaty, or be concerned with them falling out.
First things first, let me share that these don’t really have noise canceling abilities. However, these come with 3 sets of StayHear Max tips that you can use to find a tight, comfortable seal in your ear canal. This is key for a couple of different reasons. The first is that it helps to muffle out some exterior noise to provide better sound. The second is that it allows the earbud to sit closer to the ear for a snug fit while on the move. I have worn these for as long as 3.5 hours and I never had any discomfort. Once I made sure that the earbud was snug in my ear, I never felt it move during outdoor activities like walking, running, and yard work. As far as the ambient noise goes, the earbuds did a really good job of muffling things enough so that I could listen to whatever. My favorite test with any headphones or earbuds is mowing the lawn. While it didn’t block out the lawnmower completely, it was good enough where I didn’t think the mower was loud and annoying.
To go along with that, I really liked the charging case. Compared to some others on the market, this thing is the hidden gem. The LED indicator on front is great to see the current status of what the case can provide. When full, the case will provide 10 additional hours of listening over 2 charges. It also claims to do a 15 minute quick charge that will give 2 hours of listening time. I was very pleased with the quick charging when I was shifting from activity to activity with downtime in between. I also love the magnetic snap when the earbuds attach to the case for the charging. That is so much easier than others that I have to squeeze and conform to the case.
Lastly, you have to download the Bose Music app. This was super easy to work with and it allowed me to customize the name of the earbuds as well as set up the functionality of the right and left earbuds. I use mine to check the battery level, answer calls, and play/pause music. It’s great to be able to have that touch functionality without a button present. Hopefully, the software connection will come with future updates to have more options.
All in all, the Bose Sport Earbuds are a great find. The sound is terrific and the fit is fantastic once you determine what set of tips fit best. I look forward to further fun when I try wearing them during longer runs and playing basketball. Not having wires and the sweat/weather resistance will allow me to push the limits of enjoyment with these earbuds.

A Cool Cleaning Device with a Clean Look
on August 27, 2020
Posted by: Evolved1
from Naperville, IL
The mophie UV sanitizer with wireless charger is a great little device given today’s climate with germ control. Simply put...you put things inside the holder, close the lid, and hit the button. According to the guide, the process can last up to 5 minutes. However, I haven’t had anything last longer than 3 minutes so far. To help you realize when it is finished, it will beep three times. I have sanitized things like my credit cards, ID, smart watch, phones, and earbuds. I will say that the internal compartment isn’t huge. I can’t fit much in there with my phone. My earbuds provided a little bit of trouble because they are bulkier than most. The lid was 99% of the way shut with them in there, but it still turned on.
To go along with the sanitizer, the top of the unit also serves as a wireless charger. It would be amazing if it charged while inside, but this is nothing to scoff at. It works quite well providing up to a 10w charge. I found my Samsung and Apple phone both worked well out of their cases. I do have a thinner case on the Samsung and still powered through it. Anything thicker is going to need to come off. Also, I noticed that the power button on the front slowly blinks when a device is charging. That’s good to know when trying to figure out if it is fully charged or not.
All in all, this is a great device with some nifty features. It comes with its own plug with a USB-C cable adapter so you don’t have to reuse anything of your own. The UV-C Light only comes on when the lid is closed so you don’t have to concern yourself with exposure. Also, it’s a nice clean white machine that you can leave in the open and not look out of place.
Ultimately, I would recommend this if anyone wants to try sanitizing things, but I would love a little more in the guide so to explain things better. There’s not much there and leave things to trial and error. Lastly, adding some identifiers for cleaning or charging outside of the front light would be helpful. While not deal breakers, it would be nice to see a little more of a display.

Really good camera with great features...
on July 18, 2020
Posted by: Evolved1
from Naperville, IL
The ecobee SmartCamera is a really good camera that has a lot of great features to protect, monitor, and communicate around your home. This indoor camera allows you too see everything in a 180 degree angle inside your house. We chose to have it monitor our sliding glass door at the back of our house. According to the instructions, I could have installed it to monitor the outside from the inside as well. I might check that out at some point.
When you first open the box, you are can see the instructions, the camera, a base, and a power cord. For now, I installed this as a standing camera, but I plan to mount it at some point. It's nice to know that you have options and the base is flexible for your needs. I will say that the mounting aspect brings up one flaw in my eyes...the power cord. You have to have this plugged in at all times. That makes it difficult to mount it at a higher point which is what I really would like to do.
From a performance perspective, I was really impressed with ecobee SmartCamera. It has a great picture and you can even use on screen tools to pan and zoom. I think that is terrific. When you pair with ecobee Haven, you start getting alerts and you can look live to see what the camera detected. From there, you can a couple of things in app. You can watch as the motion detection follows the subject that it picked up on, sound the alarm to distract and deter then, or you can dismiss it and carry on. I was really amazed by the reaction time of the motion detection and the ability of the camera to keep up with a moving subject. Well done! Then there's also the history that it keeps for you so you can go back and check video footage.
I do want to say that the viewing angles and crispness of the picture can be impacted by the ambient lighting of the area. I am still working to find the best place, but I am not seeing the best pictures for night vision or super bright days from time to time. It's not a deal breaker, but it would be nice to have that aided just a bit.
Another interesting piece is that this has Alexa built in. Yes, that means that this camera has a mic and speaker. While not the greatest quality, you can use it to ask Alexa things or even play music. I don't see this being your main source for tunes, but the option is interesting. However, this does present the option of an intercom like system. You could use this to chat within the house or even drop-in on your pooch to talk to them.
All in all, this a pretty good indoor camera that pairs well when you have other ecobee sensors and cameras. When putting them altogether, you have a solid security or monitoring system for your house. While it won't alert the authorities for you, you can still keep on eye on things and react when needed. For a $5-10 monthly cost, the ecobee SmartCamera and Haven could really compete for the business of those DIY home security guys. I never believed in the $20-30 per month solutions so this falls right in my alley.

The ecobee SmartSensor for Doors and Windows is a great addition to anyone that has the ecobee thermostat and other sensors in the house. For a small price, you can get a huge sense of security for your home. I thought it was wonderful that the setup was really easy and the app walked you through the whole process. I also thought it was a great design to make these universal in size and shape. I could use either set on a door or window. I felt our needs were best met by having these on our front door and our sliding glass patio door.
A little light indicator helps you see when things are connected or open versus when the door is closed. The ecobee Haven solution helps you see right in the app whether a door or window is closed too. We tested this with the dog in the house and the comings and goings of our kids. I thought the alerts were timely and the sensors were spot on when the doors opened. Also, these are great for picking up motion too. That's a nice added bonus. My one little gripe is that we have a sensor that must have a bad adhesive on it. It appears to be wearing down even after following the directions to clean and dry the area first. I am hoping the ecobee will work with me on this. Regardless, I think this product is a great addition for home monitoring.

Unlock the potential of your ecobee experience with smarter comfort, further savings, and reassurance from anywhere. SmartSensor keeps you comfortable where you are instead of just where your thermostat is through occupancy detection. The ecobee SmartSensor is a great addition to anyone monitoring the temperatures in their house with their ecobee thermostat and app. However, these little beauties take on a whole new life when paired with ecobee's Haven solution. I am now able to use my ecobee app to monitor temperatures and motion in certain rooms. This is a great idea for security as well as keeping an eye on the family dog while you are away. The setup is easy and they are ready to go out of the box. After using these, I am ready to buy more to replace my temperature only sensors.

Lean & Mean Machine
By Evolved1
The first impression was a good one. After unboxing the Spectre, I placed it on my desk and my 8" tablet was next to it. Even closed, the laptop was clearly thinner than the tablet. That is how you make a great first impression. The second thing that I noticed was the weight of the machine. It is easily the lightest laptop that I have ever held.
Now, how does it perform. I am still getting familiar with Windows 10 so it's a little foreign to me, but I am liking it. I think a combination of the OS and the build contribute to the quickness that this laptop brings to the table. Combining that with the vivid screen, you have yourself a beautiful and wonderfully performing laptop.
My lone negative is the keyboard. I know it's thin so the option of backlit keys wasn't going to happen. I am a big fan and wish that was available in some fashion. The other thing is the design of the keys. HP clearly wanted to condense things for the size, but having to hit the function key to hit some pretty common keys is cumbersome. I am sure I will get used to it with time, but I like the standard keyboard layout better.
Overall, it's a great machine that will travel well when I need it. I would recommend this for anyone looking to have great performance in a ultra-thin laptop.
