Simple, good value, good features

This is a good, basic, reliable all-in-one device. It has all the features you'd need for light-duty printing and scanning at home. It was really easy to set up and use from my Windows computers, chromebook, and android phones using the HP Smart app.
It has a small footprint -- paper loads vertically.
It doesn't do duplex printing or scanning, but it does have virtual faxing capability which is useful if you have to fax things occasionally.
I've used HP instant ink before, and I think it's a good idea. It helps spread the cost of print cartridges over time, so it encourages you to use it without worrying about running out of ink.
I think it would be great for a kid for crafts and school work.

Pixel Buds A-Series bring you rich, high-quality sound for a lot less than you’d expect. Their beamforming mics help make calls crystal clear.*** The flush-to-ear design is stylish, and the stabilizer arc keeps them in place so you can wear them even during the sweatiest workout.**

What I like about these

I've had several different wireless earbuds, and there's lots of things I like about this set.
One thing that makes me happy is that the charging case is white. That makes it much easier to find in my dark bag or a desk drawer, or on my black desk, or if I dropped it behind the desk. I lost one of my earbud sets in a black case and it took me months to find it. Even better, they can be located in the find-my-device app, and you can make them ring if they're connected.
It's cool that they can be charged wirelessly.
Out of the box, the controls are really simple and easy to remember.
Sound quality is nice and clear, and people can hear me very clearly on calls.
The shape and design of the earbuds is very comfortable. They kind-of corkscrew into your ears and do a real good job of staying put. They come with a few different size inserts, so try them all to find the best fit. When you get the best fit, you'll also get the best sound.

Great work headset -- they got it right!

I've been using these pretty much every day for the past two weeks, and I'm really happy with them. I just realized I only charged them once, and it hadn't run out of battery yet.
They're comfortable, but not like lounge-chair comfy. You can wear them all day and they aren't irritating, but they definitely have weight to them and the pads push on your ears to remind you they're there. They do a good job of blocking some noise just naturally because they cover your ears and they're kind of thick, but when they're powered on, the noise cancelling works great. I can be on conference calls and they can't hear the background noise or moderate music. My co-workers say I sound really good, natural, and clear.
The controls are super simple. The power button and noise correction button are far apart and really easy to find. You can fold up the mic to automatically mute, and there's also a mute button on the mic boom. They're reversible so you can wear the mic on the right or left side. The side with the mic also has a great big volume control -- the side of the earpiece rocks up or down.
Overall, these are great quality and easy to use. Highly recommended.

The electric kettle that pours as good as it looks! Uniting stunning design with thoughtful features and a simplistic user interface, Fellow’s Stagg EKG packs a powerful punch. Since different coffees and brew methods require different water temperatures, a home brewer needs complete control in order to perfect recipes. Simply press down on Stagg EKG’s dial to turn the kettle on and twist the dial to set your goal temperature. With a 1200 watt quick-heating element and a unique PID sensor system, Stagg EKG’s to-the-degree temperature control lets you select the exact temperature from 135°F to 212°F. The base also has two switches to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit, as well as a toggle for HOLD mode to keep your water hot for 60 minutes. To engage the Brew Stopwatch on the high-res LCD screen to time your pour-over, press and hold on the dial. A counterbalanced handle and fluted spout tip make imprecise pouring a thing of the past.

Simple, elegant, yet very smart

I've seen kettles shaped kind of like this, but I've never used one before. Now I get it. The long slender spout makes it easy to control the water flow, so you get the best out of your pour-over coffee. You deliver hot water to the grounds without puddling, flooding, or splashing, then the bloom forms, and my coffee turned out strong but not bitter. I'm totally impressed with how that simple change can affect the quality of the coffee.
What's really cool is you can set the target water temperature so it's exactly where you want it when you pour. I like heating my water to 205; that gives me a hot cup of coffee when it's done brewing.
There's also a timer so you can measure just how much time you want to pour your coffee or to let it sit.

The NVR connects to your internet router via the included network cable or Wi-Fi, while the new SwannNet™ technology allows you to select whether each camera connects to the NVR or your home Wi-Fi, meaning you can choose whichever network has a stronger Wi-Fi signal. This gives you greater flexibility to place the cameras where they need to be, and their robust indoor/outdoor design is built to withstand rain, snow and heat, all year round. That’s the SecureAlert Wi-Fi NVR Security System – it’s another example of security made smarter from Swann.

Pro quality

Once you get the NVR configured, the cameras were super easy to set up. For me, as soon as they had power they showed up in the monitor. They use normal 12v security camera power, and that's the only wire they need, so you can put them just about anywhere. Connectivity is pretty solid, and they can connect directly to the NVR or through your wifi.
The image quality is impressive. You can zoom in really tight when you need to, and it takes sharp video in the dark.
What really stands out is the functionality. The search and detection features of the NVR are really good. You can text search your recordings for people, animals, cars, etc. Remote playback through the app is much quicker than any other system I've used. The recordings play within a couple of seconds.
It's a great setup with four cameras. It's a little weird that it can't be expanded, but it's great if you are monitoring a small area. I put a couple on the corners of the house, and one on the edge of my backyard pointing at the house.
If you needed more cameras, I believe that you could access multiple sets through the same app.
So, for easy setup, versatile placement, and very powerful NVR, I really recommend this set.

Do you experience dropped calls, slow internet speeds, or the inability to send and receive texts while you’re on the road or enjoying some time off the beaten path? With the weBoost Drive Reach RV, you can improve your cell signal, wherever your adventures take you. Designed to enhance signal coverage for RVs, campers and trailers, especially in remote areas. The weBoost Drive Reach RV Cellular Signal Booster uses the latest technology to pick up an existing cell signal, route it the booster, then broadcast that amplified signal into your RV. To install the Drive Reach RV, first select where to mount the outside antenna using the provided ladder bracket. This is the most important step as it impacts the overall performance of the booster. Check that the antenna is at least 12 inches from all other antennas and openings to avoid interference. Use the modular mast extensions to ensure the antenna is above any obstructions. Once the outside antenna is installed, run the coax cable behind the weather stripping of an opening, like a door, window, or pop out slide, into your RV. Next, place the inside antenna on a table or countertop near where you plan to use your devices the most. Then run the coax cables to the booster. Plugin both the outside and inside cables. Now, plug in the power cord to the booster. Finally, plug the power cord into your vehicle’s power supply and turn on the booster. When the green light is on, it’s working. All coax cable needed for installation is provided. Stay connected, wherever you choose to explore, with the weBoost Drive Reach RV Cellular Signal Booster!

Very effective, great for travel and remote work
on June 10, 2021

Timing was perfect for me to get this item. Sadly, my father passed away. Because of that, I made two trips in my RV from Minneapolis MN to Twin Falls ID to Elko NV and back, for about 20 days on the road. I traveled on all kinds of roads from congested freeways to dirt roads, and passed through and camped in some pretty remote areas with weak or no cell signal, so I really got to test this system's capabilities.
I like to stream music, podcasts, and news while I'm driving, and I also send and receive phone calls and text messages (hands-free of course). There's several areas on my trip where I used to lose all signal and my streaming would stop, so here's what I experienced with this booster:
I use Verizon. There's some really weak spots on I-94/I-90 between Minneapolis and Bozeman, but I didn't lose streaming even when the phone showed no signal. There's a dead spot just east of Glendive MT, the phone showed no signal, but I was able to make a phone call, so I was pretty optimistic. I camped at a remote campground on the edge of Yellowstone outside of Livingston MT, and my signal was good and strong. I streamed a couple of movies with no problem.
Driving through Yellowstone was a real test. There's a huge dead spot between Bozeman and Big Sky along the Gallatin Gateway, and sure enough I had no connectivity for about 25 miles. I got spotty signal all the way to Idaho, but streaming just paused for 10 seconds or so a couple of times.
Using my phone as a hotspot, I was able to work remotely when camped. The laptop worked just fine, however when scanning documents to the cloud with my scanner the transmissions would time out. It might be an issue with the scanner, because the laptop worked great, even on web conferencing and streaming movies.
Back on the road, I did lose connectivity occasionally in the dead spot between Jackpot and Wells NV, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it is without the booster. I had no signal for about 10 minutes instead of 30.
Then I had solid signal all the way home through Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Iowa to Minnesota.
In short, the booster didn't help where there was no signal at all, but it made a huge difference whenever even the weakest signal was there.
As for installation, the gear is really top-quality, however I really wish it had a flexible mast instead of a solid mast and spring. I mounted the antenna on the roof where the TV antenna used to be, so I was able to use the existing hole. I had to cobble together a mount out of a waterproof electric box cover, but I didn't use the spring because I didn't want to drill another hole in my roof, and the spring seemed way stronger than the roof material, so I didn't want to risk it. At some point I'll use some pvc pipe or something as a mast so I could get more elevation. It would be awesome if it came with some kind of a surface mount and flexible mast for this application.
One more installation issue -- seriously folks -- why didn't this come with a 12V power adapter? As far as I know, RVs don't have 120vAC available while driving. I'm not gonna fire up my generator or buy a power inverter just to run the antenna. I ordered the 12V adapter before leaving on my trip and it worked just fine.
So, it would be five stars except for RV-specific considerations -- 12V power and surface-mounting parts for the antenna.

Good performance, but very limited purpose

It's really easy to set up -- just get the app, sign in with a profile, and plug it into your OBD port, and it just works! You set up the wifi name and password in the app, but then it just works.
What it's good at --
- it's a good hotspot. It's pretty straight-forward to connect to, and it delivers a solid 4G internet connection, but only while you're driving. It cuts off at some point when you're parked, whether or not the engine is running. You can't just leave your key in the accessory position either -- it won't stop it from cutting off.
- it logs your trips. You get maps of where you've been, but it logs from starting to parking. If you drive far and stop for gas, that's two trips. It would be cool if you could view trips by day, or combine trips. It would be even better if you could see an aggregated map view to see travel over time in a web page. Extra credit if it could display the map in Android Auto or Car Play, or integrate into GPS navigation apps.
- you can see some vehicle info. On my cars, it displays battery, air intake temp, engine coolant temp, and % of fuel left in the tank. There's an Issues tab where it would display codes, but I haven't seen any yet. It didn't display the air pressure alerts from my TPMS. It would be awesome if it sent a popup alert when your fuel gets low.
- the app has a dropdown for selecting vehicles, which I thought was promising, but it only shows one vehicle per device, so if you want to track multiple vehicles, you need to have one of these in each.
This is what I wish it did --
- I can work remotely, and I have a motorhome. I wish I could use this as a hotspot while I'm camped.
- it would be awesome if it integrated with GPS apps, or if you could download your travel history.
- It's usually annoying to have new apps default to send alerts, but this would be an exception. It should send alerts for low fuel, flat tires, or other potentially emergency issues.
- I wish it could keep multiple vehicles per device. There's only one of me, so I'd only use it in one vehicle at a time.
So, I'm not really sure what the use case is. The need for a hotspot while driving is kinda limited because it doesn't have any better data than I get from my phone. I still lost internet connection at the normal dead spots on the road (I'm talking about you, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming, and Idaho!!). I'm not going to stream videos on my laptop while I'm driving. Maybe if you have passengers? Maybe if they came up with wi-fi connected car entertainment systems that don't need iphone or android?

It's really good at what it is
on April 12, 2021
Posted by: Snarltoof
from Minneapolis, MN
First I wanted to let you know what it's not.
This is not a smart device -- it doesn't play with Siri or Google Home or Apple Home. It doesn't map your floor, and the only way to set cleaning boundaries for it is to close doors or set up solid barriers. It's not a shop vac or spot bot -- it's not good at cleaning up huge messes. If you try to run it over a mess, it will smear it all over your floor. There's no remote control to drive its direction. The app will start it, pause it, send it home, or change the power setting, but won't do directions.
However, it is fantastic at keeping your floor neat. It's great at picking up pet hair and the "whisker" brushes do sweep corners pretty well. The vacuum power is really good. I did run it in my workshop, and it did an amazing job of sweeping up sawdust and stray nails and screws.
When you use it with the wet tank, it works nicely at polishing floors. It's not a steam cleaner, and it does not leave your floor dry. It will mop the cleaning solution onto your floor and polish it. I ran it on my filthy kitchen floor -- it look three passes, but it did get the floor sparkling clean. It's a great cure for laziness.
Using the wet mopping tank is much simpler than I expected it to be, and they really put a lot of thought into the design. The home base has a mat!!! Clearly they've used floor mops. My mat got filthy, but at least it didn't leave a mess on the floor. The tank is super easy to remove, fill, and dump. There's a waste bin in the tank for debris. It doesn't suck up moisture, but it does pick up dirt, pet hair, etc while it mops. The mop pads are super easy to remove and wash. They give you a spare pair of pads, and they clean up really nicely in the washing machine with a load of towels.
So -- taking the smart stuff and heavy duty stuff out of it, this robot does a great job of keeping your floors clean. Set it to vacuum once a day, use the mop once a week, and you'll be really happy with the results.

Desktop replacement?
on April 2, 2021
Posted by: Snarltoof
from Minneapolis, MN
After using a high-end touchscreen convertible laptop for the past two years, I've been browsing what's out there so I can replace my laptop when something significantly better comes along. When I had the opportunity to pick up this laptop, I reviewed the specs and jumped on it. It didn't meet all of my criteria, but it exceeded most of my requirements so I decided to give it a try.
I've been on this quest for a laptop that could be a desktop replacement for years; I prefer to have a consistent working platform, but I have needs that a normal laptop couldn't meet! My previous laptop is pretty awesome -- it's a touch-screen convertible 15.6" with an i7 core processor. I upgraded it to 32gb RAM and a 1TB m.2 drive. I absolutely love that laptop except for two shortcomings -- even though it's super slim and sleek, it's just a bit too big to be as mobile as I want it to be. Even though it's a power-house, it struggles to play games. Fortunately I have an awesome gaming desktop, but there you go. Not a 100% desktop replacement.
The specifications of this Zephyrus are phenomenal and exceed both my laptop and my desktop in key areas -- the processor and video are beasts. Compared to my previous laptop as a desktop replacement, I gain power, game play, and portability. I lose the touch screen, number pad, and max RAM capacity, but I think that's a good trade. In addition, the touch screen was super glossy, I just couldn't find any way to reduce the glare, so it was really frustrating to (try to) play games or watch movies on the laptop screen. The Zephyrus is the opposite. The screen is matte, no reflection at all.
One drawback -- no thunderbolt. When I plug it into a thunderbolt dock, or even a high-current USB charger, the Armoury Crate app that fine tunes the performance warns about "USB C" charging and recommends that you don't use the GPU.
And -- performance through one of my thunderbolt docs to display port video suffers. However, when I use my other thunderbolt doc to dual HDMI, it works just fine. I'll have to do more testing and experimenting, but my use case probably isn't the same as yours. The laptop does have an HDMI output which works just fine, and my gaming peripherals do function perfectly when the laptop is plugged into my docks through USB C. Note -- there's two USB C ports. Only one of them charges the laptop.
When I launch games, the fans fire up. It does get a bit loud, but it's a lovely white noise, so it's not so offensive. I have sound going when I'm playing games so I can't hear the fans at all. Onboard speakers sound really good. I don't get any subwoofer thump from it, but I don't really expect to. It has a reasonable range and the sound is pretty clear and balanced.
It has no webcam! But I think that's a bonus personally. I'd much rather use an external cam when I want it than have Asus waste the space and resources just to have a mediocre cam and a vulnerability to spying.
I haven't had any issues with battery life so far; I've used it on my lap in front of the TV for up to six hours at a time, and it looks like the battery life is down to 33%, but I haven't done any formal battery life testing.
I'm really happy with it so far. I've stress-tested it by playing Borderlands 3, Grim Dawn, Elder Scrolls Online, and a few different versions of Assassin's Creed. I also tested its horsepower with Photoshop Elements, managing my library of almost 50,000 photographs, doing graphic manipulation, while running Docker with a couple of web servers running. Outlook 365 locked up a couple of times, but otherwise everything else ran smoothly. Might have been the Azure outage anyway.
So, the final verdict is, this thing is awesome. It's a keeper, and I think it'll do just fine replacing my laptop and desktop. Now I just need to find a home for those computers!

Great capabilities, cumbersome configuration
on February 17, 2021
Posted by: Snarltoof
from Minneapolis, MN
I've been using Epson scanners for over ten years. When I got the opportunity to try this one, I jumped at it. This is my fourth Epson sheet-feed scanner, so I hit it hard to work through several use cases.
My biggest annoyance with it is incompatibility with the previous Epson software, so I had to install Scan Smart to be able to use its features; it won't work with Document Capture Pro, and it over-wrote Epson Scan 2, so I can't get to the configuration for my old scanner. Scan Smart has some awesome features, but I can only use it with this scanner, it won't work with any of my other scanners, including Epson, Brother, and HP.
Scan Smart has some good OCR and intelligence functions in it, it can attempt to name files for you based on the content. It can find dates and most of the time identifies the right date to use, and it knows the difference between a receipt, a contract, and an invoice. Also, once you save a document through the invoice/receipts function, it remembers your settings for that same document in the future. For example, when I scan in a utility statement, even though it mis-identified the vendor at first, it uses my settings the next time I get a statement from them. A super-annoying thing -- you can set the naming standard pretty granular for receipts IF THEY ARE SAVED AS JPG. Once you flip it over to PDF, you can't use the name standard selections. Also -- there's no way to specify save locations. The save-as browser does remember your last few choices, but that's limited and not awesome. It also wants "text enhancement" to only be used with black & white, so not awesome for brochures, manuals, etc.
The good news is that it includes Kofax Power PDF, so you can unlock lots of its capabilities and save document types exactly how you want them, but you lose the automatic naming features.
It has a useful touch-screen and you can set up presets, but that can be pretty time-consuming to navigate through that touch-screen. I did discover that you can browse to a web interface to the scanner once you have it set up on Wi-Fi, which makes it way easier to configure the shortcuts. I found that saving to a network folder is the best way to specify the save location; saving to network folder is pretty fast and doesn't take any processing power from your computer.
Unfortunately, the shortcuts and even the Scan Smart software don't let you choose to save your doc as a searchable PDF, which adds another step to my processing. Again Power PDF comes to the rescue there; that application can OCR a batch of scans. Launch the OCR batch and go out for lunch and it's done.
Overall, the basic software and onboard controls don't give you a whole lot of choices, it makes a lot of the decisions for you. For example, it does a good job with color photos but doesn't give you a whole lot of control over the settings. The manual recommends that you don't scan pictures with it because it doesn't want the feeder to chew up your pictures.
As for feeding, I have had a few misfeeds -- it doesn't like thinner or softer paper, which makes it really fussy with receipts. It should have come with a feeder sleeve to resolve this problem, however it detects the feeder sleeve as a paper jam, so you have to disable that safety to use a sleeve!
So -- lots of drawbacks and disappointments for me, so I hesitate to recommend it. The Scan Smart software is awesome, so if you need something that can scrape financial data from receipts and invoices, you can't beat it. But if you want it for general archival, and even scanning statements, this isn't your best choice.
Scan speed is okay, not awesome. Also, sometimes it's faster than other times with the same type of document, probably because of how it detects the document, but at the fastest it still isn't anywhere near my previous scanner.

They got it right!

I've been using tablets for years, including my first Galaxy Tab 7" tablet, a variety of Acer and Asus tablets, a Surface, and Surface Book. I've also been a fan of the Samsung Galaxy phones, having a 3, 4, and a 5.
When I first got this S3 tablet, I was expecting to get decent tablet performance. What I got was a powerhouse in an elegant, extremely light weight package. The size is great -- it's way more portable than my Surface devices, and the type cover gives it a good amount of protection.
Great job on the type cover, guys! The magnet attachment and the tilted viewing angle are great. It would be awesome if the type cover had a hole for the rear camera. A couple of other minor keyboard quirks; the tablet only accepts the keyboard if the tablet is unlocked when you attach it. I was also hoping for an android button on the type cover but couldn't find it at first. I read the instructions (under settings/physical keyboard/keyboard shortcuts) and it shows a "super" button that supports all the commands I'd want to use for an Android keyboard. After hunting around, I figured out that the "search" button on the keyboard, with the magnifying glass icon, is this "super" button. Now my hands don't need to leave the keyboard. The keys are a fairly natural size, not too cramped for my very large hands, They didn't bother making a touchpad on the keyboard like you see on some other compact keyboards. Good move!
I'm going to experiment with USB C video adapters to see how it performs as a "desktop" replacement, but I'm really optimistic given how it performs normally. I have a USB C to USB 3 adapter, and it picks up my keyboard and mouse just fine, even through a KVM.
I've been using a Google Pixel phone for a while, so I lost practice with how Samsung does stuff, so it's a bit different to navigate. Not too bad, and this thing does way more and has way more features than I've explored so far.
It connected to my Wi-Fi network easily, has great web page load times, installs apps quickly, and Zen Pinball is super responsive on this.
It feels really light, so it is very easy to hold. It does great as a Kindle reader, although the screen is a bit shiny. They keyboard/case pops off easily but holds securely when it's attached either as a case or as a keyboard.
I was really excited to try it out, so I used it for two days before charging it. I let it run down to 15%, and it was still happily playing pinball. It supports quick charging, so it was back up to 40% in about 15 minutes.
It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. It's an awesome tablet.

I've been using this tablet for a month now. Still five stars. The performance is fantastic, the battery capacity is awesome, the tablet is lightweight and easy to handle, and the keyboard case pops on and off really conveniently. It is awesome that it comes with the pen.
If Samsung is out there reading this -- you gotta come up with a dock or keyboard/mouse/video/Ethernet adapter for it! This thing is a powerhouse, and if I could use it with a fullsize keyboard and monitor it would be a viable laptop replacement. I've been scouring the internet and I can't find anything that displays video while providing power to the tablet.

The power requirements says “plug in”. Plug into what? Does this plug into 120v AC which would require shore power or an inverter or does it plug into 12v DC in an RV? If I t’s 12V what kind of plug?

It comes with an AC power adapter, so you need shore power, inverter, or generator. I bought the 12V adapter for it, which plugs into a lighter socket.

Will the Surface Duo allow you to do Hotspot from the device? Is this capable of wifi calling?

Yes and yes. You can use it as a hotspot. At least I can on my Verizon account. It can be used for IMS calling and for SIP calling.

What is the maximum output through the USB cable. Example if I use a hub can I get 1gb Ethernet and two 4k screens @ 60hz plus a keyboard, mouse, and USB 3.0 at regular speeds? Also is there going to be a Samsung DeX or Chromebook OS from MS?

Ethernet, keyboard, and mouse work through the USB C cable, but video does not, so you won't get anything on your monitors.

Is data transferred or synched from my PC to the Duo via the YourPhone app on my PC? If not, how?

It's compatible with cloud syncing on Google Drive, gmail, hotmail, and OneDrive, so you get your data, pics, contacts, calendars, etc. It's also compatible with the YourPhone app so you can resume your browsing session and use text messaging on your PC.

Does the phone give you the option to turn off a display when not in use to conserve battery?

When you have it open like a book, both displays are on. When you have it folded shut, both displays are off. When you have it folded in the open position with both screens on the outside, only one screen stays on. You double-tap to switch screens, but it also seems to respond to how I rotate my wrist. There's only one camera so you have to rotate it between selfie and normal modes.
