a great mobile mouse
on September 11, 2022
Posted by: Snarltoof
It's small and sleek, it has the most important controls, it looks nice, and the battery life is awesome. Bluetooth connectivity makes it very useful and versatile. It would be nice if it supported multiple computers like other Logitech mouses.
It was super easy to set it up and pair to my laptop. It has a dongle that enables a higher performance connection, but it games really nicely through bluetooth. You can select the sensitivity using a convenient button on top, and it comes in really handy for navigating intricate data tables and touching up pictures. You can zoom in really close and edit pixel by pixel with the mouse at its highest resolution.
After using it on my gaming systems for a while, I paired it to my work computer. It makes a great travel mouse. I keep it in my laptop bag and bring it when I work onsite. The shape and size fit nicely in the mouse pocket and it can easily go all week without needing to recharge. It's also that it's white. That makes it easier to find it if it falls into the bag or under the desk.
Overall I think it's a great looking mobile mouse that has awesome game performance and pleasant RGB lighting.

It's almost like having a tiny robot pet
on September 7, 2022
Posted by: Snarltoof
It's fun to leave it running. I peek at it every so often and comment, "hey buddy nice job!" or "huh, how do you make that pattern work?" It's fascinating to watch it travel around its plain of fine sand to see how it persistently and precisely plows its path, controlling where each granule of sand goes to create shapes and textures.
It looks like a fine piece of art or furniture. The construction and finish are elegant.
The lighting is really nice. It is perfectly diffused around the edges of the sand pit and it's adjustable for brightness, color, and even the white temperature.
As for the function -- it does its job nicely. Sometimes I sit on the floor and watch it work, trying to figure out what pattern it's going to make, or how it's going to execute the shapes and textures. The machine inside does make sound and that can break the illusion. Fortunately, it shares space with our pets' water fountain, and if I play soothing music on top of that it can mostly mask the sound. I found a pattern where it abruptly reverses direction and that causes a loud squawk.
My biggest complaint about it is the app. You must use the android or iphone app to control it. The android app is arcane. It has a low-text approach, so it took a whole lot of hunting and trial and error to understand how to control it. It would be nice to be able to pick simple colors rather than having an infinite spectrum. It would also be nice to be able to add colors to playlists.
I did have some connectivity issues, but it seems better since it had a firmware update.

Effective and versatile cooking tool!
on August 13, 2022

We love grilled chicken and steaks. We grill just about every week, even in the below-zero winter, because it's great to have cooked food on hand, and grilling adds great flavor and texture. I wanted to try this out to see how it works and whether it can replace some of my other kitchen gear, and I'm pretty impressed so far. Real estate on my kitchen counter is really valuable, so something has to be really good in order to earn space, and so far this thing is pretty impressive.
I grilled some chicken drumsticks and they came out really good. I used the thermometer and it got the chicken cooked really good, nicely browned and crispy on the outside while fully-cooked and tender on the inside.
I used the air fryer to cook some frozen burrito snacks and they came out fully cooked and crispy right from the freezer.
It takes 5-10 minutes to pre-heat. I've experimented a bit with it, and I determined that it's a bad idea to try to use the pre-heat time to start cooking. My food just turned out dry and crunchy.
I think it might be able to take over for the toaster oven -- after some trial and error, I found that if you grill on High, it can toast bread! Set it for 1 minute for normal or 2 minutes for dark toast, and wait until it finishes pre-heating, but the results were really good.
It also cooks frozen pizza nicely.
It's easy to clean, and it magically doesn't produce smoke!
I'm impressed with this thing.

High quality compromise
on August 13, 2022

I got this headset because it's bluetooth wireless, unlike my other wireless Razer that needs a dongle, so I thought it would be more versatile.
Versatile is a great word for it. It has features that make it a really good all-around headset. It does have a dongle for a non-bluetooth wireless connection, and that comes in handy so I can use it with my laptop and my phone at the same time. The dongle is USB-C so that's pretty handy if you have spare USB-C ports.
The mic sound quality is okay, and the noise reduction is phenomenal. I can enjoy a game or listen to music while the TV is blasting anime in the same room.
I'm pretty spoiled by high-end headsets, so the sound is not impressive, but it is very good. It doesn't knock me off my chair with thunderous bass, but the sound is crisp and clean.
There's no flashy RGB lighting.
The ear cups are a generous size and very comfortable even after a couple of hours of play.
It comes with a very nice carry case but I think it is just too bulky to be very mobile. Battery life is awesome . I haven't run out of power yet.
So it's a good balance of gaming features and general communication and audio features.

Handy, portable, easy to use
on August 5, 2022

When I first got this projector, as I was unwrapping it, I thought, "hey wouldn't it be great if there were a case for this?" And sure enough, it comes with a great carrying case, and there's a divider so you have a place to stuff the cables. I got this for its portability. I like to set up a small movie theater when camping with friends, so I wanted to see how well this would work. The case is awesome. As a bonus, it uses a C13 power cord (like a PC) so you don't have to lug around or keep track of a power brick. It has two USB ports, two HDMI ports, and a VGA port so you have all sorts of compatibility. It uses miracast for the wireless connection, so it works great with my Windows laptops, but you'd need to get some kind of miracast app for Android. I don't know how it works with macs or iphones. The bluetooth connectivity is a little weird -- it can act as a bluetooth speaker (but not the most awesome sound) or it can pair and send sound to bluetooth speakers.
The picture is good -- the better your screen, the better the picture. Don't expect awesome if you're projecting onto a wall! The keystone correction is great. You have control over all four corners, so I can always get my picture squared up nicely.

Sleek, powerful, upgradeable
on August 2, 2022

I switched over to gaming laptops about 10 years ago -- I got the behemoth of a laptop at the time and used it for years. Then I kind of drifted back to desktops for gaming because laptop performance just wasn't keeping up with the games' requirements. Fast forward to 2021 and I had the chance to get a really nice and compact gaming laptop -- it had the "same" components as desktop machines, but in a small 14" screen package. I found myself using it more and more, connected to a nice monitor for gaming, and I retired my other personal computers. I love the portability, but if it's replacing all my other computers, it just didn't have enough screen area for office tasks, photo editing, etc.
Then there's this monster. It's a beautiful machine with great specs. Even better, there's some room for it to grow; it came with a 1tb drive and an empty drive slot. I right away got a 2nd drive so I don't have to worry about my space-hungry games. The empty drive slot even comes with a heatsink! That's super nice.
It's great at games. It loads the games and cuts pretty fast, the screen is bright and colorful, and the battery life is really good! I was gaming for four hours or so unplugged without any problems, but I didn't run the batteries down to empty.
Yes, the fans really do kick in after gaming for a while, but the sound isn't annoying, it's kind of like white-noise. If I have the game sound up, or if I'm wearing headphones, the sound isn't an issue at all.
The speakers are impressive for a laptop. The sound is really good, especially at moderate volumes. The volume keys are easy to get to along the right edge of the keyboard, so you don't have to hunt over your F keys to find them.
The keyboard is comfortable and responsive to me. I'm mildly bummed that there's no number pad, but the overall elegance and ease of typing really make up for it. It would be a bit nicer if the secondary functions on the keys were also illuminated.
The downsides aren't that terrible, but good to know.
This laptop doesn't seem to know "thunderbolt" at all. I have a slick RGB thunderbolt dock, and the laptop doesn't recognize it at all. Nothing. No charging, no USB pass-through, nothing. I swapped in a USB C dock, and it works great except no power delivery from the dock. So when I dock it, I also plug in the power cable.
I like how it has the power connector and 2 of the USB connectors in the back -- it makes an elegant package. There's 1 usb-c 1 usb A on the back, and two more usb A on the right side. I wish there were at least one more usb-c port.
The finish on the lid seems a little soft. Mine is already scratched up pretty good just from sitting upside-down on the table when I added the 2nd SSD. At least it isn't pristine anymore, so I feel better about plastering the lid with stickers!
Overall, this is a great laptop.

Super high expectations
on July 1, 2022
Posted by: Snarltoof
I've used all sorts of Logitech gear over the years and much of it is fantastic. I had really high expectations for this keyboard so I'm going to be a little hard on it.
First the good stuff. As advertised, the key click feel is fantastic for a non-gaming keyboard, and the keys are pretty quiet for such a great action. The battery life is amazing, I've used it for three weeks and there's still plenty of charge. The illuminated keys are a great bonus. There's enough contrast between the keys and their labels that it's easy to see what you're doing no matter what the light level is. Another nice thing is that you don't lose a keystroke when waking up your computer -- the first key you press will register.
I've used this keyboard as a work keyboard for a couple of weeks now and some things really bother me about how it's designed. My biggest issue with it is it's not awesome if you're always touch-typing. It is difficult to put my hand in the right place without looking, and 9]g4 67-p4r p;9ool4 6ujh9oe ,p054 6ujhwm pmf4/ (I've typed like that more than once and had to go back and correct it.) Sure there's speed bumps on the F and J keys, but the function key row and the number key row are right against eachother, there's no gap between them, so it's easy for me to end up on the wrong row. Why is it so shallow from front to back? It looks sleek and modern, but it gives up some usability. At first I thought it was for portability, but the keyboard is too long to fit in my computer backpack comfortably. Maybe it's designed for airplane tray tables?
And to make it extra challenging, I use long and complex passwords. There's no indicator lights for caps lock and num lock. The caps lock key does get a little brighter, but the num lock has no indicator.
I realize that the keyboard is designed to be inclusive for Windows and Mac users, but the symbols on the start buttons are cryptic for me. It took a moment to figure out which key would have had the windows symbol.

Smart temperature control
on June 24, 2022
Posted by: Snarltoof
If you have smart home automation, like google or apple home, this is very useful. It is really convenient to be able to shout at google to adjust the temperature, and to be able to access it from the home app. If you don't have a smart thermostat, this is a good one.
Part of my opinions are because I have an ecobee 3 lite, and the differences between the two are pretty subtle and wasn't worth the effort to upgrade.
The display is prettier and more touch-responsive, and it does seem to be adjusting to our schedules and the weather, but it's still too soon to see if there will be significant energy savings compared to the lite version. We do have a basic 7-day schedule set, and the thermostat does override those settings to save energy. I'm not sure whether it can detect whether we're home or away.
It has the capability to use additional sensors, so I'll probably get some to see if it functions any differently.
Installation is pretty straight-forward, and the app guides you through every step. It comes with a special power adapter so it's compatible with a wide range of systems. I was really annoyed when installing it because it's just not compatible with any of the mounting hardware that my ecobee3 lite thermostat used. It would have been really easy to make it a plug-in swap, but I had to replace the mount to fit the new one. I even had to drill new holes in the wall because the screw holes are in a totally different place.
Overall, I recommend a smart thermostat. I'm just not convinced that this is an upgrade for a more basic ecobee thermostat.

Surprise power and great design
on June 18, 2022
Posted by: Snarltoof
I totally underestimated this machine. When I turned it on, the brush kicked in and almost dragged me acoss the floor! Not really, but I was surprised by how powerful the brush was for such a compact package. This mop is no joke. I'm a busy and stressed-out professional, so lots of housekeeping chores don't get done on a regular basis. I've been meaning to clean the kitchen floor for quite a while -- I had food and coffee spills, tracked mud, etc, on the floor in places, and serious grossness under the oven and fridge. I figured that I'd give this machine a workout. It really worked. It took several passes in some areas, but the machine just kept working at the mess until it was all clean. The dirty tank strains out the solid materials to make it easy to dump without clogging your sink. It also uses less water than I would expect, so I didn't have to dump the tank nearly as often as I thought I would have to. The clean tank and the dirty tank have good capacity. One super thoughtful little detail is that both tanks have flat bottoms, so they can be put upright on the counter, and you don't have to lean them against anything like you do with other wet vacuums.
I really like how it is as maneuverable as a light vacuum, it does a great job on hard floors and we can also use it on floor mats that aren't too thick. That brush-forward design really gets right up to edges and corners.
It is very user-friendly. The display is large, bright and useful, and the voice prompts are really helpful. Even self-cleaning is super easy. I'm just not sure what benefits you get from the app or its wifi connection.

Works great but the capacity is limited
on May 9, 2022

I enjoy coffee and sweets, but I'm getting older so I have to take good care of my teeth so I can keep them! I was really excited to try this. I've been using water flossers for a while so I'm comfortable with a powerful water stream, and the portability is a great feature.
It comes with a handy travel bag and the battery lasts quite a long time on a charge, so that helps with its portability but the tiny water tank makes it less convenient. You really have to work fast with this to have an effective cleaning. I quickly realized that it takes several refills to do my whole mouth so I came up with a system -- First I concentrate on my problem areas, spending a whole tankful on each tooth that has bad gaps, then I do a quick but full rinse of each arch. I can usually finish with six refills.
Another tip -- when you get the water temperature how you like it, full up a measuring cup and use that to refill the reservoir. It's annoying to have to adjust the faucets every time you have to refill it.
So now that I've worked out how to make do with the small capacity, I do plan to take this traveling with me. It takes some patience to work out your routine and get used to it, but I think it's worth it.

They got it right!
By Snarltoof from Minneapolis, MN
I've been using tablets for years, including my first Galaxy Tab 7" tablet, a variety of Acer and Asus tablets, a Surface, and Surface Book. I've also been a fan of the Samsung Galaxy phones, having a 3, 4, and a 5.
When I first got this S3 tablet, I was expecting to get decent tablet performance. What I got was a powerhouse in an elegant, extremely light weight package. The size is great -- it's way more portable than my Surface devices, and the type cover gives it a good amount of protection.
Great job on the type cover, guys! The magnet attachment and the tilted viewing angle are great. It would be awesome if the type cover had a hole for the rear camera. A couple of other minor keyboard quirks; the tablet only accepts the keyboard if the tablet is unlocked when you attach it. I was also hoping for an android button on the type cover but couldn't find it at first. I read the instructions (under settings/physical keyboard/keyboard shortcuts) and it shows a "super" button that supports all the commands I'd want to use for an Android keyboard. After hunting around, I figured out that the "search" button on the keyboard, with the magnifying glass icon, is this "super" button. Now my hands don't need to leave the keyboard. The keys are a fairly natural size, not too cramped for my very large hands, They didn't bother making a touchpad on the keyboard like you see on some other compact keyboards. Good move!
I'm going to experiment with USB C video adapters to see how it performs as a "desktop" replacement, but I'm really optimistic given how it performs normally. I have a USB C to USB 3 adapter, and it picks up my keyboard and mouse just fine, even through a KVM.
I've been using a Google Pixel phone for a while, so I lost practice with how Samsung does stuff, so it's a bit different to navigate. Not too bad, and this thing does way more and has way more features than I've explored so far.
It connected to my Wi-Fi network easily, has great web page load times, installs apps quickly, and Zen Pinball is super responsive on this.
It feels really light, so it is very easy to hold. It does great as a Kindle reader, although the screen is a bit shiny. They keyboard/case pops off easily but holds securely when it's attached either as a case or as a keyboard.
I was really excited to try it out, so I used it for two days before charging it. I let it run down to 15%, and it was still happily playing pinball. It supports quick charging, so it was back up to 40% in about 15 minutes.
It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. It's an awesome tablet.

I've been using this tablet for a month now. Still five stars. The performance is fantastic, the battery capacity is awesome, the tablet is lightweight and easy to handle, and the keyboard case pops on and off really conveniently. It is awesome that it comes with the pen.
If Samsung is out there reading this -- you gotta come up with a dock or keyboard/mouse/video/Ethernet adapter for it! This thing is a powerhouse, and if I could use it with a fullsize keyboard and monitor it would be a viable laptop replacement. I've been scouring the internet and I can't find anything that displays video while providing power to the tablet.

Do you experience dropped calls, slow internet speeds, or the inability to send and receive texts while you’re on the road or enjoying some time off the beaten path? With the weBoost Drive Reach RV, you can improve your cell signal, wherever your adventures take you. Designed to enhance signal coverage for RVs, campers and trailers, especially in remote areas. The weBoost Drive Reach RV Cellular Signal Booster uses the latest technology to pick up an existing cell signal, route it the booster, then broadcast that amplified signal into your RV. To install the Drive Reach RV, first select where to mount the outside antenna using the provided ladder bracket. This is the most important step as it impacts the overall performance of the booster. Check that the antenna is at least 12 inches from all other antennas and openings to avoid interference. Use the modular mast extensions to ensure the antenna is above any obstructions. Once the outside antenna is installed, run the coax cable behind the weather stripping of an opening, like a door, window, or pop out slide, into your RV. Next, place the inside antenna on a table or countertop near where you plan to use your devices the most. Then run the coax cables to the booster. Plugin both the outside and inside cables. Now, plug in the power cord to the booster. Finally, plug the power cord into your vehicle’s power supply and turn on the booster. When the green light is on, it’s working. All coax cable needed for installation is provided. Stay connected, wherever you choose to explore, with the weBoost Drive Reach RV Cellular Signal Booster!

The power requirements says “plug in”. Plug into what? Does this plug into 120v AC which would require shore power or an inverter or does it plug into 12v DC in an RV? If I t’s 12V what kind of plug?

It comes with an AC power adapter, so you need shore power, inverter, or generator. I bought the 12V adapter for it, which plugs into a lighter socket.

What is the maximum output through the USB cable. Example if I use a hub can I get 1gb Ethernet and two 4k screens @ 60hz plus a keyboard, mouse, and USB 3.0 at regular speeds? Also is there going to be a Samsung DeX or Chromebook OS from MS?

Ethernet, keyboard, and mouse work through the USB C cable, but video does not, so you won't get anything on your monitors.

Is data transferred or synched from my PC to the Duo via the YourPhone app on my PC? If not, how?

It's compatible with cloud syncing on Google Drive, gmail, hotmail, and OneDrive, so you get your data, pics, contacts, calendars, etc. It's also compatible with the YourPhone app so you can resume your browsing session and use text messaging on your PC.

Does the phone give you the option to turn off a display when not in use to conserve battery?

When you have it open like a book, both displays are on. When you have it folded shut, both displays are off. When you have it folded in the open position with both screens on the outside, only one screen stays on. You double-tap to switch screens, but it also seems to respond to how I rotate my wrist. There's only one camera so you have to rotate it between selfie and normal modes.

Do I need a smart phone to be able to use Norton Core?

I'm pretty sure you do; you need the app to set it up and control it. I'm not sure if there's a web interface, but I don't think there is.
