Oliver Stone's bone-crunching football film comes to DVD with a vivid 2.35:1 widescreen anamorphic transfer. The soundtrack is in Dolby Digital 5.1. Subtitles are available in English and French. In addition to the usual theatrical trailer and bios on the cast and director, the disc includes the documentary "Full Contact: The Making of Any Given Sunday." Rapper and actor LL Cool J provides a music video for "Shut 'Em Down." There is also a handful of DVD-ROM features.

Great football movie!

This is one of my wife and I's favorite football movies! This is a great depiction of what goes on behind the scenes of America's most popular sport. It's brillianly directed by Oliver Stone and a great performance by Al Pacino, (as usual.) It has a great cast including Jamie Foxx, Dennis Quaid, Cameron Diaz, James Woods, and Jim Brown. (I could've done without LL Cool J.) The film is about the NFL, but the team names are different due to some NFL copyright law. If you're a football fan (who isn't), I highly recommend this film! Also, some other great football movies are The Program, Friday Night Lights, Longest Yard, and We are Marshall.
What's great about it: Oliver Stone and Al Pacino.
What's not so great: LL Cool J, (he's a terrible actor!)
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is a great depiction of the life and times of Alexander the Great, my wife and I love it! It's brilliantly directed by Oliver Stone and Colin Farrell is outstanding as Alexander. It has a great cast including Angelina Jolie, Val Kilmer, Jared Leto, and Anthony Hopkins. Oliver Stone does a great job of making his true story films as accurate as possible, (just like JFK, The Doors, Nixon, etc.) This version of the film is the best and most complete. I highly recommend this film! Also, some other great films that are similar are Gladiator, Troy, and Kingdom of Heaven.
What's great about it: Oliver Stone!

Oliver Stone's biopic of rock singer Jim Morrison, The Doors, comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. There are no subtitles, but the soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Stone, interviews with the cast and with the real-life people depicted in the film, nearly one hour of additional scenes, a documentary, concert footage, the theatrical trailer, and production notes. This is an excellent release from Artisan.

This is a great movie, my wife and I love it! It's brilliantly directed by Oliver Stone, and Val Kilmer's acting is amazing! He looks and acts just like Jim Morrison. This is a great depiction of the Doors and Jim Morrison's life. Just like other Oliver Stone true story films, (like Alexander and JFK), he does a great job of making his films as accurate as possible. I highly recommend this film! Also, two of my personal Oliver Stone favorites are Natural Born Killers and U-turn.

Great movie!

This is one of Oliver Stone's most controversial films. The reason it's controversial is because it's the truth based on facts the government doesn't want to admit to, (just like they don't want to admit UFOs exist.) Everyone knows by now that JFK was assassinated by multiple shooters, NOT Lee Harvey Oswald. The question is who and why? That's what this film is about. This a great movie with an outstanding cast. I highly recommend it, but only if you have an open mind! Also, some other great Oliver Stone movies I recommend are Natural Born Killers, U-turn, and The Doors.
What's great about it: A controversial and eye-opening film experience!
What's not so great: Couldn't find anything.

This oddball combination of black comedy and pulp thriller was Oliver Stone's least controversial film in years, and also arguably his worst. Nevertheless, it does have some merit in terms of acting and visuals, and it is therefore disappointing that Columbia/TriStar has put minimal effort into this DVD. The anamorphic widescreen transfer of the film is satisfactory, even if the deliberately faded and washed-out look of the film does not benefit greatly from the process. On the other hand, U-Turn's breezy music and bizarre dialogue have been well cared for with an excellent Dolby Digital 5.1 mix, and the audio quality of this disc is consistently high from beginning to end. Regrettably, the only special feature on the disc is the original theatrical trailer, which is okay but nothing special. Stone normally seems willing to contribute to DVD editions, and his input is missed here. This is only a so-so DVD, but then Columbia TriStar might well regard it as only a so-so movie.

This is a great movie, my wife and I love it! Sean Penn stars in this hilarious thriller, brilliantly directed by Oliver Stone. This movie will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. It has an allstar cast including Joaquin Pheonix, Nick Nolte, Billy Bob Thornton, Claire Danes, and Jennifer Lopez. I highly recommend it! Also, some other great Oliver Stone movies are Natural Born Killers, The Doors, and JFK.

One of the best movies ever made!

This is one of my wife and I's favorite movies, and in my opinion, one of the best movies ever made! Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis are at the top of thier acting careers. Brilliantly directed by Oliver Stone and based on a story by Quentin Tarantino, you can't go wrong. If you've never seen this amazing film, I highly recommend! Make sure you get the unrated director's cut to enjoy the film in its entirety. This movie will make you stand up in your living room and applaud. A definite must own!!! Also, some other great Oliver Stone movies I recommend are U-turn, The Doors, and JFK.
What's great about it: Great plot, great acting, great cinamatography, everything!

Great zombie movie!

This movie was great for an independent film! My wife and I loved it! If you're a zombie lover like us, I think you'll like this movie. It's fast paced with plenty of gore. (What else do you need?) I highly recommend it! Also, some of my personal zombie (or zombie-like) favorites are Quarantine, Dawn of the Dead (old and new), 28 Days and 28 Weeks Later, and Perkins 14.
What's great about it: Very intense and fast paced!
What's not so great: Couldn't find anything.

For those who thought director Zack Snyder's remake of George A. Romero's zombie classic packed an impressive punch in theaters, Universal Home Video's DVD release of the unrated director's cut provides even more bloody fun -- in addition to offering some impressive bonus materials that actually serve to enhance the viewing experience. Lovingly presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, this release of Dawn of the Dead looks fantastic. Not only does the presentation feature colors that are as bold as they are vivid, but it also offers great skin tones, shows little to no signs of edge enhancement, and delivers pitch-black darkness in the nighttime scenes. Dawn of the Dead is a very high-contrast film, and Universal has done a terrific job in faithfully preserving its visual presentation on the small screen. The Dolby Digital 5.1 surround mix likewise does an effective job in keeping viewers ill at ease by means of punchy music cues and eerie directional effects. Additional footage that didn't appear in the theatrical release covers everything from more graphic zombie mayhem to some revealing and endearing character development. Even with such a hearty visual presentation, the reason most viewers will be purchasing this disc is for the generous bonus materials -- and they're not likely to be disappointed. Unlike the sometimes superfluous extras on most over-bloated special edition DVDs, Dawn of the Dead offers some bonus materials that truly draw the viewer in to the experience of the film. "The Lost Tape" of gun store owner Andy (Bruce Bohne) offers a videotaped document of the one of the more appealing but justifiably underdeveloped characters in the film, while "Special Report: Zombie Invasion" offers a faux newscast which covers the epidemic from the first reports to the moment when broadcast television gives way to the Emergency Broadcast System. If the 12-plus minutes of deleted scenes aren't necessarily the "pulse-pounding scenes too terrifying for the final theatrical release!" that the packaging promises, they do offer a few nice scares and some great character development in addition to showing, through the optional commentary, that Snyder has a keen eye for pacing. For those interested in special makeup effects, this release offers a trio of unrated exclusives that are both revealing and informative. "Raising the Dead" finds special makeup effects designer David Leroy Anderson and other filmmakers discussing the process of creating the frightful zombies, and while "Attack of the Living Dead" may give the impression that it's little more than a zombie-kill montage, it's actually a detailed study of the special effects behind six of the film's most impressive visuals. If viewers are at all curious how the filmmakers get those zombie noggins popping, they need look no further than "Splitting Headaches: Anatomy of Exploding Heads," in which Anderson, Snyder, and crew reveal how they make the head-shots so convincing. A commentary track by Snyder and producer Eric Newman is also involving and entertaining, showcasing not only the director's dedication to the project and sense of humor, but also his love for the original Dawn of the Dead. The two interact playfully throughout the lively track, and in addition to making light of the typical horror logic presented in some points of the film, they also point out scenes that were extended or added to the DVD release and expand on why they think the scenes add to the overall impact of the film. DVD-ROM materials are also accessible.

One of the best zombie movies ever made!

This is one of my personal favorites, I love this movie! This movie is extremely intense, full throttle from beginning to end! I'm a huge zombie fan, and personally I've always like the zombies that run, not the ones that walk. It's more threatening when they're sprinting after you, instead of you being able to run circles around them. This movie was very well directed by Zach Snyder, and the screenplay is from George A. Romero. If you like zombie flicks, this one should be at the top of your list. I highly recommend it! Also, some of my personal favorite zombie (or zombie-like) films are Quarantine, 28 Days and 28 Weeks Later, Perkins 14, and Shaun of the Dead.

To me, George A. Romero can do no wrong! But that's me, I love everything he does. This wasn't one of his more popular films, nor was it his best. But, I still thoroughly enjoyed it! This film got a lot of mixed reviews. I recommend it, if you like a good zombie flick. If you're a fan of his work, I definitely recommend it! Also, two of my personal Romero favorites are Dawn of the Dead (2004) and Bruiser.
What's great about it: George A. Romero!
What's not so great: Not his best, but still good.

Great horror movie!

This was a pretty good movie, my wife and I liked it. It wasn't nearly as good as Takashi Miike's version by a long shot, but still good. Normally, I'm all for Japanese remakes because we have better special effects and better acting. The Japanese, on the other hand, have better imaginations and better storylines. So, when you take thier plots, and add our acting and special effects, it makes for a great horror movie. I'm a fan of Japanese horror, and in most cases, I've seen the Japanese versions before we remade them. Most of them are great and I have no complaints, (The Grudge 1 & 2, The Ring 1 & 2, The Eye, Shutter, etc.) But, in this case, I prefer the Japanese version because it has a more indepth plot and a better ending. This version was rather short and left some stuff out. If you saw this movie and liked it but didn't like the ending, I recommend watching Takashi Miike's version. But, this was still a good movie in it's own right. I highly recommend it!
What's great about it: Decent remake.
What's not so great: The Japanese version by Takashi Miike was better.
