Warner Brothers Home Entertainment hits it out of the DVD ballpark with this fabulous 2-Disc Deluxe Edition of Vertigo Comics' crass character John Constantine's big-screen debut. Containing the original widescreen presentation of the film, the disc comes with a stunning 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer along with Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks in both English and French. The picture quality is befitting to the unique look of the picture, which only looks better and better as time goes on. The disc not only shines with its fine presentation, but with the surprisingly well-produced bonus features that track the film from its comic roots and throughout the production. While many studios are only too happy to dish out prepackaged PR junk for their supplemental material, Warner Bros. deserves an ovation for delivering a mass of quality featurettes that present a fine look at a film that had its fair share of stumbling blocks. First up is director Francis Lawrence's thoughts on directing his big-screen debut, featuring candid tales of uncertainty and lessons that were learned throughout the production -- a rare thing to see on DVDs these days. The disc continues with featurettes that dive straight into the inspired design, look, and memorable sequences that make up the film, with interviews from various visual effects wizards to stunt coordinators that consistently assure safety on the set. Also included is a chat with author Phil Cousineau, who takes a cosmic look at the journey of the film's hero through the teachings of Joseph Campbell and other literary figures through the years. If that wasn't enough, there are 18 minutes of deleted scenes, which include an alternate ending and a cut storyline featuring Constantine and Michelle Monaghan as a demon seductress, as well as a previsualition featurette, all of which feature optional director's commentary. Lawrence was also recorded a feature-length commentary along with producer Akiva Goldsman and screenwriters Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello, which gives the viewer even more insight into the filmmaking process of this adaptation. Add in a Perfect Circle music video and both the teaser and theatrical trailer, plus a mini-comic containing a few choice Hellblazer stories, and you have a commendable release that delivers on every level. Moviemaking is an art that is far too often overshadowed by its star-powered candy coating, so it's refreshing to see a release that's not made up of at least four discs embrace the craft in such a fine way, making this two-disc release a must-have for movie lovers and fans of the film. Constantine is also available in single-disc full-screen and widescreen versions.

This is a fantastic movie, my wife and I love it! Keanu Reeves is superb, as usual. It has an all star cast including Rachel Weisz, Shia Labeouf, Djimon Hounsou, Tilda Swinton, Gavin Rossdale, and my favorite Peter Stormare. (He plays the Devil, and his role alone is worth buying this movie!) The imagery and special effects are outstanding. This film, which is actually based on a graphic novel, is a definite must see! I highly recommend it! Also, some other great films that are similar are Max Payne, Ghostrider, and The Prophecy series.
What's great about it: The acting, the imagery, everything!
What's not so great: Nothing!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great action movie!

This was a really good movie, my wife and I loved it! (It kind of reminded us of Constantine, just a different plot.) We actually watched it with a friend of ours, and all of us were left scratching our heads afterwards. The over all movie was good, great acting and great imagery. However, the plot is somewhat confusing and the film ends rather abruptly leaving some unanswered questions. Otherwise, I would've given it 5 stars. I used to play the video game when I was younger, and I thought the film was a great adaptation. I highly recommend it! Also, some other good films based on video games are Doom, Silent Hill, and The Resident Evil series.
What's great about it: Great cinamatography.
What's not so great: The plot's rather confusing and it has an abrupt ending.

David S. Ward's college football drama The Program comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. There are no subtitles, but the soundtrack is closed-captioned. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, but this inexpensive Disney/Buena Vista release boasts excellent sound and picture quality.

This is a great movie, my wife and I love it! This movie was based on a real football team, in fact, some of the players from the real team have cameos in the movie. Billy Bob Thornton is terrific in this movie! If you're a fan of football (who isn't?), then I highly recommend this movie! Also, some other great football movies I recommend are The Program, Any Given Sunday, We are Marshall, and Varsity Blues.
What's great about it: Based on a true story.
What's not so great: Couldn't find anything.

I highly recommend it! Also, some other great horror movies based on true stories are The Amityville Horror, The Haunting in Connecticut, and The Mothman Prophecies.

Jan de Bont's The Haunting comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in DTS 6.1 and Dolby Digital Surround. Supplemental materials include a pair of theatrical trailers, a behind-the-scenes featurette, biographies of the cast and crew, and production notes. This is a technically strong disc from Dreamworks.

Good horror movie!

This was a good movie, my wife and I liked it! I gave it 4 stars because of the special effects and the great cast. Otherwise I would have given it 2 or 3 stars. It wasn't very scary, but had some cool scenes. The ending was weak, and there were several major movie flaws. I'm not trying to be picky, in fact, in most of my reviews I won't mention 1 or 2 flaws, I know they happen. But, this movie had some big obvious flaws. Other than that, it was fun to watch, I recommend it! If you want a real good scare, I highly recommend The Haunting in Connecticut, Amityville Horror (new version), Mirrors, 1408, and The Uninvited!
What's great about it: Special effects and good cast.
What's not so great: Not very scary, bad ending, and had some major movie flaws.

Decent remake!

My wife and I just watched this and we enjoyed it. It was comparable to the first one, (John Carpenter saw to that.) The acting wasn't very good though, the movie was rather slow, and the ending was pretty lame. I'm a fan of remakes, but this one could've been better. I still recommend it, because the sound and special effects were good and there's some good creepy scenes. If you want a good remake, some I recommend are Halloween 1 & 2, Last House on the Left, Black X-mas, Friday the 13th, and My Bloody Valentine 3D.
What's great about it: Sound and special effects.
What's not so great: The acting and the ending were poor, movie's rather slow.

The DVD extras on the shark thriller Deep Blue Sea contain bountiful "making of" information. "When Sharks Attack!" is a documentary highlighting the blend of real sharks, models, and computer effects that were used in the film. While far from comprehensive, seeing the actors swimming with real sharks is engaging. An explanation of the use of music within the film is also interesting. "The Sharks of the Deep Blue Sea" is a short documentary more specifically aimed towards the technology used for the models of the sharks. There is overlap between the two documentaries. Deleted scenes can be viewed with commentary by director Renny Harlin, who explains why each scene was left out. The film as a whole can also be watched with the commentary of the director and one of the film's stars, Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson's commentary adds interest and amusement but unfortunately is only featured in the first half of the track. A theatrical trailer and production stills are provided. The Deep Blue Sea package also has DVD-ROM features, including screensaver, poster, chat room links, interview clips with cast and production crew, and web links to other shark sites that can all be accessed from the original website.

Best shark movie since Jaws!
on July 18, 2009

This was a great shark movie, my wife and I loved it! Best one since Jaws, (have there been any others?) The acting was great (minus LL Cool J), the plot was decent, and there's plenty of shark action! If you were a fan of Jaws, I think you'll enjoy this movie. I highly recommend it! (Just ignore LL Cool J. It still baffles me how he keeps ending up with roles in movies, he's a terrible actor! I would say it's for popularity, but he hasn't been popular since the early 90s.)
What's great about it: Samuel L. Jackson and Thomas Jane.
What's not so great: LL Cool J, (he's a terrible actor!)
