So Much Room for Activities!
on December 19, 2021

I know that this particular model of monitor has been plagued with poor reviews in the past, but it appears that Samsung has done a lot of work to correct those issues.
Mine shipped with the latest firmware and I have not had a single issue with it. No HDR problems, no light bleed and not a single bad pixel. From my experience so far there's no way I can ever go back to a normal dual-monitor set up again!
Let me tell you what a pleasure gaming is at full resolution. When I concentrate on the middle of the screen the sides wrap around enough that I start to lose the edges in my peripheral vision. It creates a fully immersive environment and feels a lot like playing in VR.
I'm running the G9 Neo from a gaming laptop with a 6GB Nvidia GTX 1060. Even this older card is able to run the desktop at native resolution easily. Most older games that I play also support full native resolution at 30-60fps at medium settings. Even well-optimized newer games like "We Happy Few" are able to run at respectable frame rates. Another favorite on this monitor is racing games like Project Cars. At medium settings the game runs very fluidly and it feels like being in the cockpit of a sports car at high speed. MS Flight Simulator struggles a bit on mt GTX1060 at full resolution but feels very realistic. This monitor also has the ability to work with Nvidia and AMD video cards to correct V-Sync actively. I did notice that without this feature enabled games were tearing a lot when I turned horizontally.
Also, do yourself a favor and search YouTube for some 32:9 videos to check out. Those fill the screen completely without black bars and are a real treat to watch.
It's not just amazing for playing games though. My work computer is a Dell "Surface Style" tablet running windows. I'm a Project Manager and run meetings on Teams all day. In the past I've had to run three monitors to run Teams full screen, present from Jira and take notes in One Note properly. Here I just span them across the giant widescreen and still have the tablet screen to run something else. Even just normal web surfing is incredible on the big screen. I'm able to have a full size browser window open along with YouTube TV running to the side and MS Your Phone mirroring both screens on my MS Duo phone.
There are two HDMI inputs and a Display Port input. You have the ability to show two sources at once, either side by side or as picture in picture. I tried out my Xbox Series S on one input and a Google Chromecast with Google TV on another and had them side by side. I was able to watch TV while playing the Xbox at full resolution! It also worked great as PiP, and you can even change between a couple preset insert picture sizes. It's really hard to swap out cables on the back, so I wouldn't plan on doing it often.
Visual quality is out of this world. Colors pop without looking artificial, screen-door effect is non-existent when sitting about 18" back and contrast is amazing. I played games for a couple hours admiring the brightness of the monitor before I went into the setup menus and realized it was only set at 35%. When I set it to 100% things looked even better. Overall brightness is on par with a high-end television. You have a ton of control over local dimming, black levels and lots of other color/contrast/brightness parameters.
Menu navigation is done through a 4-way switch on the bottom right of the monitor. It's a little tricky to find as it's set farther back that one would anticipate. There are also two function buttons that can be defined as shortcuts if you want.
The stand is easy to assemble and attack. It's pretty sturdy overall but does sway a little side to side if you bump the desk since it's only supported in the middle. It slides up and down to different heights easily. I'm surprised how often I reposition it for different activities, so I'm glad it does it. It also swivels side to side for perfect placement. When you go to put it on your desk I would suggest having someone help so you can each take a side. I disregarded this in the directions and narrowly averted disaster. It's heavy and awkward to move. Trust me, get a buddy to help!
There are no speakers, which feels like a bit of a miss on a monitor of this size and price. It seems like there's plenty of room to fit in some passible speakers. There's a headphone output on the back that I have plugged into some active speakers for now. Even an optical output would have been appreciated.
I would absolutely recommend this monitor to anyone into gaming, visual arts, music production or even a work from home warrior who deals with multiple apps at the same time. It's a good investment for sure!

Perfect stand
on December 15, 2021

I keep my Nest Hub on top of one of my desk speakers which has an angled top. Not ideal, but the only place it fits at the moment. Because of the angle I didn't have the best viewing angle.
Along comes the Wasserstein stand. It's a simple device and requires no real installation. Just drop the hub onto the top and youre ready to go. There's a perfect cut-out for the speaker and nothing is permanent, so you can remove the hub whenever you want.
The base is nicely weighted so that moving the Hub is a one-handed affair. You don't need to hold the base steady. You can tilt up and down and swivel side to side for the perfect angle. Unlike the ball-and-socket type stands, you cannot adjust the Hub on an angle.
One thing i noticed is that it was slowly sliding down the angled top of my speaker. On further investigation I realized there is shipping film on the rubber feet on the bottom. Once I removed the tabs it had plenty of traction.

Solid Sound Performance
on December 1, 2021
Posted by: Nerdninja
from Pennsylvania
It's amazing how far things have developed since Apple first unveiled the AirPods. Since then many companies, big and small, have come out with their own True Wireless Earbuds with varying degrees of quality. Many of the more inexpensive ones perform very well and punch above their weight. This is the case with the Belkin Soundform Move Plus.
The included tips feel very good. I usually don't like the silicon tips and immediately change them out for third-party foam tips, but in this case I was happy to keep them. They have a smooth, grippy feel and the already-installed tips gave me a good fit and seal.
The 'buds themselves feel solid and have a nice heft to them. They feel like they will hold up well. They also have a nice look to them, an understated glossy black with a small "Belkin" logo on each.
The case feels a little cheap and has a hollow sound to it. The shape is good for putting in a crowded pocket with an elongated egg shape. There is no wireless charging. The charging port is micro-USB. This is one of my only complaints. At this point USB-C should be everywhere so I can carry one charger for everything. It's time to start tossing our Micro-USB cables! The 'buds also sit in the case in a way that they cross each other to save space. For some reason I can't get the hang of putting them in correctly and keep wanting to put the right one in the left slot because of how they face. Not a complaint, this is all on me, it's just odd.
Sound quality is very good, especially at this price point. I would rate sound better than AirPods and would not hesitate to make these daily drivers for music listening. There is no noise cancelling, but they do isolate sound well. They would probably be okay on public transit, but maybe not great for an airplane. There is also no app to set up options or equalization. These are very no frills.
There are touch controls for basic functions like pause and play.
Pairing went fine but they kept losing paring the first couple times. Granted, I'm using these on a Microsoft Surface Duo, which has issues, so I can't say with certainty it was because of the earbuds. After the third time pairing them I have had no further issues. They do take a couple seconds to sync up after removing them from the case.
Given their price point and IPX5 rating, I would highly recommend these for exercise or working around the yard and working up a sweat, or even wearing in a light drizzle, and you don't need to worry about losing an expensive earbud.

Another home run from Ninja!
on November 18, 2021
Posted by: Nerdninja
from Pennsylvania
I'll admit I may be a little biased since I love Ninja cooking products. I have most of the collection from the coffee maker to the multi cooker and indoor grill and we use them nearly daily. The only missing piece was the convection oven.
I know they call it a toaster oven, but that really undersells what this thing can do. It's much bigger than a normal toaster oven (more on that later!) so you can make full meals, bake or even fit an entire frozen pizza inside easily.
As far as size, this version, like previous versions, pivots into an upright position to free up counter space when not in use. I had no problem with it fitting under my cabinets. Also, all of the included racks (A wire rack, one for air frying and a searing plate) all fit inside at the same time so you don't need to store them seperately.
The searing plate is really handy. You put it in and pre-heat it with the rest of the oven. I used it on a frozen pizza that we normally make directly on the rack in the oven for a crisp crust. In the Ninja it came out much better than in the normal oven with a crust that was crispy without becoming hard or dry and with an evenly melted top.
The other thing I like making in it are the frozen grocery store pretzels. I use to microwave them, but it only takes a couple minutes to heat them in the ninja and they come out perfectly with that slight crunch to the outside rather than becoming rubbery in the microwave. The Ninja heats to the required 400 degrees very quickly and then the pretzels only take a little over two minutes to be perfect.
I like that once I'm done cooking and I turn off the oven the fan continues to run to cool the inside and the display will say "HOT" until it's safe to handle again. Once it stops funning I just throw the racks back inside and tip it back up.
There's a removable crumb tray on the bottom for easy cooking. For messier recipes like air-frying chicken wings I would suggest putting the sear plate on the bottom to catch any drippings to make clean up much easier.
My only complaint is that when tilted up it looks like a massive stainless steel monolith on the counter. It does take up quite a bit of horizontal cabinet space, so be prepared to move a few tings around to make space!

Great for Gamers
on November 8, 2021
Posted by: Nerdninja

I'm usually hesitant to install antivirus software because it tends to lead to slower performance and is overall just intrusive. While Windows does a fairly good job of AV on it's own there are definitely times when it's better to have more protection.
Bullguard advertises this as being a "gamer edition," which I figured was just some fluff to appeal to the RGB light crowd, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it has a trick up it's sleeve; it actually becomes dormant when it senses you're playing a game in full-screen to preserve precious memory and CPU cycles. The "Game Booster" function also implies that it will shut down other background process that may be affecting framerate drops. While I can't confirm that this is actually happening, I can confirm that there are no slowdowns to my games as a result of installing Bullguard.
Installation is the usual affair. Download the installer, install and create an account. You're then presented with a dashboard of features. I immediately turned off the firewall since Windows also has a built in firewall and I didn't want to create additional issues. A couple features, like VPN and identity protection are also available at additional cost. But the included features should be all you need.
So far so good with the basic antivirus functionality. I don't see any major slowdowns or other ill-effects from running Bullguard. I don't tend to visit sites that may be fishy or download strange sfotware, so I haven't run into an instance where the AV software has sprung to life to save me. Still, I have some confidence knowing it's there just in case. The other nice thing is that I have not run into any false reports when installing other software.
If you're getting your games from safe sources like Steam or Origin or Epic you probably don't need something like this. In my case I'm more than happy to install this on my son's gaming rig to protect him when downloading dodgy Minecraft modules knowing that it will stay out of the way when he's gaming and won't affect performance.

The Nextbase 320XR and Rear Window Camera is the ideal solution for all-around protection on the roads in full HD quality. The front cam captures every detail in 1080p full HD at 30fps, with the aid of a 140° wide viewing angle. It utilizes the latest 2.5" screen with IPS technology for easy menu selection and playback. The 320XR uses the exclusive Click&Go PRO mount with integrated neodymium magnetic power connectors for easy installation and removal using just one hand. The 320XR Rear Window Camera connects to your front facing Dash Cam via a supplied 6.5m cable. It fits directly to your rear window with an easy to install self-adhesive pad. The magnetic, adjustable fixture means that it's suitable for angled windows in cars or more vertical van windows. The Rear Window Camera records in full 1080p HD with a wide 140 degree viewing angle to guard against everything from hit-and-run impacts to knocks and bumps in a car park. The 320XR also includes Intelligent Parking, which automatically starts recording when motion is detected, keeping your car safe when parked. For this feature, we recommend hardwiring in the Dash Cam using the Nextbase Hardwire Kit. Footage must be played back on a PC/Mac using Mynextbase Player or online using the free MyNextbase Cloud service (minimum requirements: Windows 10/OSX 10.9). The 320XR is not Bluetooth, and will NOT sync directly with the MyNextbase cell phone application.

Good Basic Camera with Double Protection
on October 26, 2021
Posted by: Nerdninja
from Pennsylvania
I watch a lot of dashcam footage online and was becoming interested in trying something with a front AND rear camera, so I was happy this came along. I've used other Nextbase cameras before and this one lives up to the quality I expected.
First off, the design is similar to other Nextbase cameras with the oblong case and long barrel for the lens. This one does not work with their mobile apps, and has no Bluetooth or WiFi capability and is therefore lighter than models that do. Otherwise all of the included mounting hardware and cables are very similar to my other Nextbase.
I installed this in my 2016 BMW 320i with little effort. If you have a BMW you may not know it but there's a 12v socket under the dash hidden in the passenger footwell in most models. This is a perfect place to power a dashcam since the wiring is hidden and the plug is out of sight. From there I went up the side of the dash and under the rubber on the pillar up to the corner of the windshield. Centered is the best placement, but the lens is so wide a foot or so doesn't make much of a difference. The kit includes a small tool to stuff wires under trim, too!
The rear camera plugs into the front camera via a USB-C connection on the side of the camera. Here's where Nextbase loses me a little. Now I have to run a second cable back down to the floor trim and then to the back of the car. I wish the power plug incorporated the wiring back down from the front camera and I could plug the rear camera into that to make it tidier. That's how Garmin wired up the aux ports on their original Echo GPS units and it was great.
There was plenty of cable to run along the floorboards, between the back seat and side wall and up to the rear windshield. The rear camera is round and unobtrusive and has a break-away cable built in so it would be easy to replace later if it fails for some reason.
Picture quality is good with both cameras topping out at 1080p and 30fps. That's plenty to capture a license plate at close range. Remember, this is for protection, you're not filming a movie! Also keep in mind that if you drive poorly, the camera can incriminate you as well as it can protect you!
Nextbase's mounting hardware is cool. It sticks to the windshield with 3M tape but mounts the camera magnetically, so you can pull it out quickly to retrieve the SD card or if you want to hide it in a sketchy area. The rear camera mount is permanent however.
Also, the camera does not include an SD card, so you will need to purchase one. The unit REQUIRES a U3 or better card (Just look for the little U symbol on the package with a number in it.) For reference I tried a U1 card and received a message to use another card. If you plan to reuse and old card, be sure it's a U3. 32GB should be more than sufficient.
The world is getting crazier by the week, so I'm happy to have something in my car to back up my side of the story if necessary, and being able to record front AND back are important to me.

Nice Mouse, But a Little Light For My Tastes
on October 26, 2021
Posted by: Nerdninja
from Pennsylvania
So far I've played with this mouse on my gaming laptop with decent results. I would highly recommend it for travel use especially because of it's weight.
Overall it fits my smallish hands well and is designed in a way that I can comfortably reach all of the buttons. It says it's a 7-button mouse but I have to admit I can only find six buttons. That's not counting one on the bottom to switch up light modes, so maybe that counts as the 7th, One on top is also to control resolution on the fly.
Lighting and button assignments are handled by the Corsair iCUE software. If you have other Corsair hardware it just joins the collection with everything else.
The mouse comes with a Slipstream receiver that can be used with select other Corsair devices so you can use one USB adaptor to rule them all. It stores nicely inside the mouse under a trap door on the bottom (Again, great for travel) and can also be switched to Bluetooth mode if you don't want the dongle at all. There's a switch on the bottom for that, too.
I've been running several days now on the charge that it came with, so I'm very confident I will have plenty of power with a full charge. Charging is via a USB-C connector on the front (Hooray for nearly universal charging for everything!) and it can be used as a wired mouse in a pinch.
My only negative is that it's very light and may not be to everyone's taste when gaming. I like a little more weight for feedback, but to each his own. I will say it's extremely comfortable in hand and allows me to rest my wrist when gaming.

More Datamining
on October 26, 2021
Posted by: Nerdninja

I have to say I'm really disappointed with the Tivo Stream, especially when compared to the Google Chromecast with Google TV.
The device is a plain, large rectangular slab with a USB input for power and another USB -C for storage or add on devices like Ethernet. The Chromecast doesn't include the second port, so I do like the addition.
Once you get set up and signed in the software looks almost identical to the Chromecast's Google TV UI except that there's an additional TiVO Stream app built in that kind of aggregates your services as a one-stop portal for content.
The setup is what I take issue with. Once I went through all of the Google TV setup and activation, I had to go through another process to set up a TiVO account (or in my case reactivate an old one) and activate the device AGAIN. Obviously this is so TiVO can double-dip on mining my viewing data to sell to who knows who. Google is already doing this, now TiVO is following suit.
Because of this I don't see any advantage at all over just getting a Chromecast with Google TY and using that. Especially when I like the Chromecast remote more. The TiVO unit comes with what looks like the old TiVO "Peanut" shaped remote which just feels clunky and outdated now.
Otherwise the device seems competent and responsive, but I see no advantage to it that warrants having more fingers in my viewing data.

Very Easy Setup, No Monthly Fees!
on October 26, 2021
Posted by: Nerdninja
from Pennsylvania
I have a kind of mashup of security cameras around my home. While sticking to one brand makes managing the apps easier, I find I don't need to look at them all in one place that often. To that end, I find the Eufy fits into my setup very well, even as a mix and match component.
Setup was dead easy. I elected to set up everything before mounting it so I could test the camera out before committing to a location. The app walked me through everything and I was up and running in no time.
Then came the surprising part. I didn't need to set up any kind of paid account to monitor or store past recordings. The recordings are stored internally on the device, so there are no requirements to pay someone to store them. Keep this in mind when mounting the camera since if someone can snatch the camera they will have the recordings, too.
Mounting is even more simple than the app setup. Since everything is self-contained you just charge the camera up to 100% then mount it using the supplied mount, which screws into a standard tripod type mounting hole on the bottom. You can use the app to aim it and then you're all set!
I've had mine running for a few days, so I can't say much about the expected battery life, but so far so good, even with me playing with the light here and there. Even without the light on the camera captures clear images in darkness. I first set up the camera in my garage on my workbench to try it out in the dark and image quality was good in total darkness and with the built in light being the only light source.
I really like the app. It gives me pretty granular control over video quality for streaming (the camera stores recordings in 2K but can stream in lower quality for poor connections), lets me pick what kind of motion to record (everything or just when the camera detects people, which it does well) and if I want the light to come on with motion or not. I always prefer on since it is likely to scare off someone skulking around in the dark.
You can talk to someone through the camera, which I have not had an occasion to try out yet.
While you may not be familiar with Eufy, the camera is well built and the image quality is as good if not better than my Ring cameras. I would not hesitate to buy a few more from this brand!

Works well with a larger phone
on September 23, 2021
Posted by: Nerdninja
from Pennsylvania
My previous experience was with an older gimbal that was about a foot long and didn't work well with heavier phones.
This little guy, on the other hand, is very compact and folds down into a nearly pocketable size. Unfolding it feels a little scary, like it might break, but I don't think it'll happen. It also handles my Galaxy S21 Ultra's size and weight with no problems.
The phone mounts by means of a clip that goes on the back of the phone and then attaches to the gimbal magnetically. The clip gabs on to the sides of the phone, but is designed in a way that it won't interfere with the power switch or volume buttons. It stretches out far enough to grip my S21 Ultra, but I don't really think it'll get much bigger. It's possible that you wouldn't need the clip if you have a metal plate on the back of your phone, but I haven't tried that. I do have my phone in a Moment case with a magsafe compatible ring built in, but it does not work with the gimbal directly. Given that all newer iPhones have magsafe and you can get adapters for non-apple phones I really wish this worked directly with magsafe. For now though, the magnetic clip is just one easy extra step.
The built in controls are handy and there is a pan/tilt thumbstick and a start/stop button and another to re-center. These are great, but only work with the DJI Mimo app. The app is adequate for recording and allows you to pick out a subject by dragging a box over it and the app will keep the target centered and in focus. I really wish I was able to use the excellent 10x optical zoom and 108mp features of the S21 Ultra in Mimo, but I'm limited to the normal lens.
The OM5 comes with a handle that screws on the bottom that can be used as an additional grip or a tripod to set it on a table. The tripod, combined with the follow-me feature in Mimo makes for a cool little vlogging setup.
Hidden under the gimbal is the OM5's secret weapon: a built in selfie stick! If you want to get in on the action with some friends and need to get the camera a little farther away for a wider shot, simply pull up and there's a telescoping stick inside! It adds about an extra foot of height and feels plenty sturdy. This is nothing like a dollar-store selfie stick that falls apart or collapses after a few uses.
Going into Fall I'm looking forward to using this to chase my kid around on Halloween and through the holidays!

Will it work with only a phone

Yes, it's designed for phones and I don't see an easy way to mount a camera of any kind

Will this work with an iPhone 12Max with a Mous Limitless 3.0 case. Anyone foolish enough to use any gimble w/o some sort of protection is just asking for trouble IMO. I really want to pick one up but not if it won’t work with a case.

I don't know about that specific case, but the magnetic clip seems to work with every case I've thrown at it on my S21 Ultra.

That said, the clip and magnet are really strong and I would feel comfortable trusting them under most conditions

See more of the action with this Full HD ASUS gaming monitor. Quick 1 ms video response time lets you play action games in real time without lag. This ASUS gaming monitor comes with a stand for use on any flat surface.

I recently purchased this monitor from my local Bestbuy, and I cannot get audio through it. Does this monitor have built-in speakers? I am unable to find information online regarding whether this monitor has integrated speakers.

It does not have speakers. There is a headphone jack on the back you can connect to amplified speakers

Do I need to buy a pc box for this or dose it come with a built in pc or is it just a screen

This is just a monitor. It needs to be connected to a PC, either a desktop or a laptop (as a second screen)
